FRANTIC is a fast, double-shot-of-espresso read. Its heart-racing story can be consumed in a few quick hours.
Jenny’s life is shattered when her Special Ops husband is killed. To escape the pain, she falls into a dangerous cycle of self-destruction. One terrible night, she kills a violent man in self-defense.
Jenny runs off into the unknown, desperate to turn her life around. That’s when the … That’s when the handsome cop, Lieutenant Jon Dowling, appears. Her new life is threatened by secrets from the past — and she must fight for her life.

Jenny is on the run. After her military husband is killed overseas, she drops into a vicious cycle of drinking and picking up men in bars. One night she chooses the wrong man .. a man who tries to kill her. When she leaves the cheap hotel room, she leaves behind the man very dead with 4 bullet holes.
Landing in a small town, Jenny makes a life altering decision … no more bad choices for her. She commits to turning her life around. She’s found work that she enjoys and her bar-hopping days are over.
When she meets Lieutenant Jon Dowling of the local police department, she is wary, but he does have a way of making her smile.
But then she receives a note …. a note that says they know what she did. It will cost a cool bundle of money to keep the writer silent …otherwise he goes to the police and tells all.
This is a fast read .. less than 200 pages. There’s not a lot of credibility with the character of Dowling. As a law enforcement officer, the choices he makes would probably land him in more hot water than the blackmailer. I really wanted to like this one. It’s not the worst I’ve ever read …but not the best, either.
Many thanks to the author and Booksirens for the digital copy of this romantic suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author via Booksirens in exchange for an honest review.
I did enjoy this book, but not a much as I anticipated. The story is about Anna, a young widow trying to survive losing her Special Ops husband, who makes poor life choices. The story then revolves on a self-defense murder and her journey to hide her guilt. The story had many twists but was not what I expected. I was hoping for more.
It was difficult to finish, but I did. Unfortunately, the story didn’t really grab me. I was left wanting more.

He’s dead, what now, where too, downhill slide to the bottom, I have to stop!!!
When Jenny’s Special Op husband is killed, nothing mattered, she didn’t care about anything. Just the next drink to help her forget, death would have been better. Men came and went, but when one wrapped his hands around her neck, she realized that she really wanted to live. She knew that she couldn’t die, not now! She got away and tried to leave, but he came for her, the gun, her gun, stopped his killing her! Now, where? She couldn’t stay, to run is all that she could think. Calling her dad, she told him that she needed time, time for herself. All she did was drive north and checked the internet to find out if she was wanted. Finally, she drove into a town on the northern shores and felt like she was home. But can she do it? Still watching the internet, she decided to stay and try to start over.
What did I like? As everyone knows, I love Elyse’s books. Everyone that I have read has been over the top in research and details. They are more than just a book they are an adventure with excitement and intensity. Her characters become friends and neighbors. Every book takes flight and you had better hold on to your seat or you are going over backward!
What will you like? A very intense storyline that starts on page one, and just keeps getting deeper and deeper. The unique characters will capture your heart. You will be able to feel the killer’s hands on her throat, watch the bullets fly and save her. When she travels you will see in your mind’s eye the landscape around her, as she travels from Florida to Massachusetts. Feel the dampness of the ocean, hear the seagulls, and watch the sandpipers chasing the receding waters. Just when you think things have settled down, be prepared because it is going to take off again, and it is intense!!! An excellent read that I could not put down, and then wished there was more. Incredible ending that you won’t see coming, loved it!
