Great kidnapping suspense novel. Loved the fast paced story and the characters. I will be reading more of this series
Gripping
Glad to find a new mystery writer. Have already downloaded anything by this author.
One of the best books I have read in a while. Hard to put down.
I liked that it was a solid stand-alone book. Enough back info was provided to better understand particular characters. The story held my interest and did shed light on the horrors surrounding human trafficking.
Tough subject but good read!
This was a good story that took me into a world I knew little about. I could hardly put the book down.
Loved it.
This fast-paced book is a wonderful introduction (for me) to this author. I fell in love with the author’s writing style and the fact that she is so descriptive about everything to the extent that I was able to really feel for the characters and what they were going through. I read this book over night as I was unable to put it down once I had started reading it. Fantastic book.

This story continues with Kat, Jack, and Steve’s mother Laura. Steve is in prison for the rest of his natural life for his part in the cancer cure blackmail scam. A couple has asked for help in finding their daughter, who is missing from a camp they sent her to help her with her social skills. It’s been fourteen days and word from her. The camp says they don’t know where she is and she must of runoff. But her parents know better than that. Kat and Tim get help from a surprising source, but is it too little too late? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
This is book two of the Kat Beckman series and sees Kat still recovering from the events of her first big breaking take down story, finding out her husband Steve married her for the information his employers Apex could blackmail her for and their own son Jack was taken to do so, while his own mother Laura was given cancer! Her son is only five and had a rough time being taken and he is still undergoing therapy to help recover from it. Hopefully his young age will help with that. Kat has only been doing some easy, lightweight stories since, with her editor and now close friend Van. They are approached in a local park by a desperate dad, who wants their help to find his missing eleven year old daughter Carlye. Tim and Alana Morgan sent their daughter to summer camp, to help her make friends and get out of her shell a bit before starting middle school. They did everything right, getting references and checking into the camp, before sending her there. A couple of weeks in, she missed a call home and when her parents checked with the camp the next morning, they were told she couldn’t be found.
There has been no ransom call, no contact from whoever took her, and she definitely had no reason to be a runaway. Her parents have tried the police with little progress and were going to get a P.I. involved, when Tim recalled the Apex story and Kat’s involvement in breaking the case wide open. Kat and Van start investigating and the more they do, the more it points towards Carlye and possibly many others like her are being trafficked for use by very wealthy men and their clients! Not a nice topic to read about and even worse for the young girls having to live through it! Carlye is not the first and she is unlikely to be the last. She is taken by someone she thought she could trust, passed onto another, until they reach the man she has been taken for, to be part of his collection of beautiful young things. But not just to be looked at, but to be played with and shared with his friends and business partners, as perks of the job. I won’t spell it out, but you know where this is going.
Those involved in this trafficking don’t care about the merchandise, especially if it disobeys or breaks the rules and expected behaviour. The man who is collecting these pretty ‘things’ is extremely wealthy and even has his own private airline company, so can easily transport his collection and has many people in high places and law enforcement in his pockets. Any of the girls who cause trouble are never seen again. Murder is a common place part of their business. Carlye takes herself into her own mind to survive what happens to her but can’t think about her parents or younger brother much, as she cries too much and that gets her into trouble. Kat gets caught up in the case, making her wonder what she would do if it had been Jack taken and realising that she will do anything to make sure Carlye makes it back to her family, no matter what it costs. What she doesn’t realise is how far those who have her will go. They make threats to her son’s life and try to intimidate her as well.
They may be willing to fight to keep their sick sideline secret from the authorities and be able to continue it as and where they want, but if they push Kat, it will only make her more determined to stick with her investigation until she finds them and ensures they are all punished for what they have done. She wants to save Carlye and any other children who have been trafficked for the sole sick purposes of these rich men. Kat and Van are in the sights of these sick men and will have the lives of them, their families and friends put in danger, if they continue. Is it worth the danger, all for the life of one missing girl? Carlye has been missing for almost two weeks now and whether she will be found alive is what is pushing Kat and Van to try and locate her. The FBI are now involved and the case is finally being taken very seriously. Who will survive and how badly they will be affected by the challenges they face in this story, are uncertain and some very disturbing scenes are played out. The topic of this book could be very disturbing for some readers, but it is one that exposes something that we need to be more aware of and is happening all around the world. A very intense read, with a determined main character doing what she does best, uncovering illegal goings on and catching those responsible, who thought they were above the law! Hard hitting, but a very necessary story. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Such an incredible transition in book 2 of this series. Although the subject matter is tragic, the story and characters are believable. I’m enjoying this series immensely and cannot wait to move onto book 3!
This is a mystery type of book and when Carlye is kidnapped they call in Kat to solve the mystery. They are working against the clock to find the people that are doing this to girls. The story is told in a perfect way to were you are on the edge of your seat. The discription that is put forwards in the book was eye opening. This book was well written with fantastic characters. I could not put it down. What an incredible book.

Riveting, gut-wrenching, and impossible to put down…
In this second book of the Kat Beckman series, Kat is still reeling from the betrayal of her husband and all the heartache he caused her and their son in the first book. If you are new to this series, you needn’t worry – enough background detail is provided to prevent any trouble understanding anything presented in this story. Kat, an investigative journalist with a history of getting to the bottom of the most complex cases, is approached by a stranger pleading for help in locating his daughter who has gone missing from summer camp. The local authorities haven’t been able to provide much help. What follows is an unforgettable journey which plumbs the depths of depravity as Kat uncovers evidence of a billionaire’s exploitation of young girls. When the criminals are this wealthy and this connected, it is monumentally difficult for authorities to track them down, make substantive allegations, obtain necessary warrants and charge them with their heinous crimes. Be advised that this story, while positively captivating, focuses on the trafficking of young girls. The material is uncomfortably explicit yet doesn’t revel in the graphic and gory details. Even so, it is not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to become emotionally invested in the plight of Carlye, an eleven year old girl who endures that which should never have to be endured by anyone of any age. This story, while fictional, is a positively gut-wrenching yet totally riveting account of man’s inhumanity directed at the most vulnerable members of our society. I found it impossible to put down once I started reading. It is a wonderful, well-written story (albeit centered around a horrific subject) that I would recommend to anyone attracted to thrillers and police procedurals.
