LOVE the books in this world!
“You’re the best mistake I’ve ever made.”
I have read other books by this author, so I already knew she was a very talented author. However; she still managed to surprise me with how much I loved this book. I filed it under favorites, and that’s a big compliment from someone who reads as much as I do. The synopsis was enough to intrigue me so that I wanted to read it. But it was still kinda vague. I had no idea what I was in for. It was soooo much more than I expected. I want to tell you all about it, but since she didn’t, I won’t either. I’ll just tell you that you need to read it, you won’t be sorry.
Sydney is such a fun character. Especially when she lets her wild side loose. She’s one of those girls that will take a lot on herself, but if you mess with her girl, her bestie Tori, she will unleash on you. And let me tell you, I was ROTFLMAO at the abuse she was inflicting on the poor unsuspecting wrong number that she thought was the guy who had broken her friend’s heart. The things that came out of her mouth were hilarious, even to the man on the other end of the phone. The stranger that was woken up by a wrong number and stayed on the line to let her get it out of her system. And when she apologized and hung up, he still found himself thinking about her. He hadn’t smiled in a long time, and it was nice to have something else to consider besides his own problems.
Imagine Sydney’s surprise when the victim of her wrath bothered to text to check on her. She was so embarrassed by her mistake, but at the same time, that voice on the other end of the line…sigh. She had enough problems to worry about without thinking about that man. Actually, she needed to stop thinking about all men. Maybe her mother was right when she warned her, “Don’t get comfortable being happy. It’ll only hurt worse when it’s gone.” She wasn’t very happy right now, after the rug had been pulled out from under her. But maybe all men weren’t bad. Maybe he was different. He seemed to actually care, and she was a stranger to him. What would it hurt to just talk to him?
He knew better than to get involved with her. He had enough problems without adding more to his already overflowing pile. But he could hear the pain in her voice. He wanted to make it better. Maybe he could help. He wouldn’t give her his full name. He wouldn’t tell her where he lived or where he worked. He would just talk to her. What would it hurt just to talk to her?
Girls, the way he talks to her will melt your heart… and your panties. The author did such a good job writing his character that I could hear his sexy voice in my mind. “Wanna set your whole fucking world on fire, babe, ’cause that’s what you’ve done to mine.” And wait until you find out about all the secrets he’s keeping. When you learn what he doesn’t want to tell her, it’s gonna blow your mind. It’s gonna drive you crazy because you know it and she doesn’t. You are gonna want to whisper in her ear and let the cat out of the bag just to ease your frustration as you wait for her to find out. It’s a lip biting experience as you wait for the events to unfold in their own precious time. I’m getting excited about it all over again as I tell you about it. I’m tempted to start at the beginning and read it again, knowing what I know, reading between the lines.
I also fell in love with the support characters in this amazing story. I’m thrilled that this is the beginning of a series because there are some delicious undercurrents that I’m really looking forward to being pulled under by. I have my eye on several sexy men that need a sassy woman to wake them up and make them feel the flip and twist. And, I’m hoping that there will be more girl’s nights with a theme. That was a lot of fun, and I want _ _ _ _ (A four letter word that starts with a M and ends with an E).
Incredible book didn’t know what I was in for when it started. Sydney and Brian- Great story
Another one that I just loved by the time I finished listening to. It took a bit to get into. It didn’t quite follow the storyline I was picturing in my head based on the synopsis. But the way it went was still good. Of course the fact that it was partially narrated by Sebastian York helped as well. There were so many details hinted at, but kept out of reach for our knowing throughout the book, that it kept me on my toes, guessing at why one of them was doing what they were doing. And then there’s how long it took for the two of them to actually meet. The near-misses, which honestly, I loved, it kept me guessing at when they would finally meet, and if one or the other would be upset with the one who actually knew who they were first. Daniels knows how to write the steam, I don’t need to tell you just how hot and bothered I got listening to certain scenes in this. Even though I knew lying, or you know, just not saying anything about the porn was going to be a big issue at the end, and that kind of getting upset is so irritating to me, in the end the author pulled it back from that issue for me. I can’t wait to read on in the series.
J. Daniels sure knows how to work her magic on me cause I was spellbound throughout this entire fabulous story. When I finished the first chapter I was gone. She had me. Hook, line and sinker! Or should I say Sydney had me, then Tori had me, then Brian and on and on. I’ve read all of J. Daniels books and I can honestly say I treasure them all. Mostly because of their characters. Four Letter Word was no different.
This story had so many amazing characters and they all had their story to tell. They were layered and well developed. I loved Sydney! She was a loving and loyal woman who tried everything to save her failing marriage but with no such luck because of an absent and out of love husband. She was strong as hell when she pushed her hurt feelings aside to show her love and support for her best friend Tori when it mattered. Their friendship was amaze balls. So much fun and so much love between them and also between Sydney and Tori’s parents. So much history. Beautiful and heartwarming history.
Brian is now my favorite male character from the J. Daniels universe. Wow! He swooned, wooed and broke my heart. He was a broken and flawed character but with so many layers that he kept surprising me. In the best way possible. He and Sydney’s first encounter was fantastic! It was hilarious, it was sexy and it was super cute. How their relationship developed and progressed from there was perfection. The build up and foundation between them was deliciously written and only made me fall even more in love with both of them.
Sydney and Brian were before they met broken in one way or another and how they healed one another was truly captivating. Their connection and chemistry was intoxicating and I could feel it jumping off from the pages. J. Daniels definitely made me hot and left me panting heavily on numerous times. Their relationship was highly sexual but it worked because it was so obvious how much their love mattered and had changed the both of them. For the better.
The secondary characters were spot on too. From Sydney’s best friend Tori, her work colleagues at Whitecaps to Brian and his friends at Wax to his sister Jenna and his niece and nephew. They all were intriguing and written with so much love that I was captured immediately.
The writing and pace of the story were immaculate. I’m so excited and in love with these characters that I’m on pins and needles for the sequel. Definitely J. Daniels’s best work yet. Bring on Hit The Spot!
Sydney and Brian took me on an emotional roller coaster that was superbly narrated with dual narration. From full on smiles, to tears streaming down my cheeks, to having the actual aches in my stomach and heart with them, they ran the full range of emotions, dragging me along. Of course, I loved every second and either couldn’t wait to get back into the story, even those moments that I knew would make me cringe. Two people who needed time and space to heal, finding each other by accident, and giving that safe space to make it happen. There was only good in and for these two, and it was all well deserved that they finally get their HEA!
The first half of this book was good and kept me happily reading. At about the 50% mark, my interest started to wane. The story became repetitive and stalled out. I thought about quitting a few times but trudged on. I will admit to skimming, though. It all picked up again at the 85-90% point and finished well. I don’t need to recap what you can read in the synopsis already written here. Obviously, the majority of people who left reviews didn’t feel the same as I did. You’re on your own for this one!
I loved this book!!! Started off kind of strange, but went from 50 to 100 and never stopped. I loved Brian and Sidney. The friends and family in this book are funny and nerve wracking at the same time. But you have to read to see what I mean. Brian captured my heart and never let it go!!!!
Liked it enough that I’m now reading book two ! Really enjoyed the storyline, well worth reading !
Couldn’t put it down.
A super cute concept. I love the idea of how Brian and Sydney meet. A wrong number gone really really wrong turns into finding the love of your life but Brian’s secrets keep him from taking what he has found. This book has some great steam a lot of love and a great group of characters you can’t help but fall in love with which is common with J. Daniels series. Very excited to read the rest.
this was a recommendation for a friend. I really like the story. The characters are a lot of fun and it’s not your average cookie cutter contemporary.
All the stars, I always one-click J. DANIELS. Always entertaining and once I start I cant put it down!
I have read a few books by J. Daniels in the past, and I have enjoyed them. She does a good job of creating a plot that is interesting, and characters that are likeable. I really liked Brian- he really came across as real and flawed and good-hearted. I understood his guilt, and I loved the way he tried to ease that. I liked Sydney, as well. I did find it hard to believe that Sydney’s marriage ended and she was able to move on so quickly. Things did happen very fast between Brian and Sydney. I also liked the side characters, and look forward to getting their stories (particularly Nate!).
‘Four Letter Word’ is my first book by J. Daniels, and I ended up with a lot of mixed emotions. I really liked Sydney and Brian’s characters, and they felt very relatable. Although they had a lot of great conversation on the phone for quite a while, I felt really surprised at the ‘insta’ sex/love when they finally met in person. It was a very quick transition and felt out-of-place for me on Brian’s behalf.
I did enjoy the unique plot, and the way in which they met over the phone definitely made for a fun and interesting story. However, I wasn’t really fond of the writing in the sexy scenes, which seemed a little crass and took away from the romance aspect of the story to me. I listened to the audio, and I’m not sure if it was because of the narration, but the story really drug out for me and took me a long time to finish. I really enjoyed Kate Russell as Sydney’s voice, but Sebastian York didn’t seem like a good fit for me as Brian’s voice.
I do wonder if my overall thoughts would have been different if I had read the book. I did really enjoy the secondary characters in the story, and I’m still curious to know about them in the other books in the series!
**4.5 stars**
I love J. Daniels and her books, when I heard she had a new one releasing I had to have it, no question about it. Nothing about Four Letter Word disappointed me and I hung onto every word of Brian and Syd’s story. The perfect four letter word for their story is love.
Syd, this spit fire of a redhead is one my favorite characters written by the author. After making a phone call to the wrong number, Syd’s life was on a course she didn’t know she was prepared for or needed. I loved the meeting she had with Brian and how their relationship started. Syd loves fiercely and with her all. She’s sweet, caring and helps heals those important to her.
Brian, I love his character. After receiving a phone call meant for someone else, he was intrigued. The spit fire on the other end did all sorts of things to him and caused laughter, something that had been missing in his life. Not wanting to lose this, he makes a bold move and does something he isn’t sure he should- making it one of my favorite stories by J. Daniels. He loves just as fiercely as Syd and will do anything in his power to make her happy and heal her.
Syd and Brian’s story is adorably perfect. I laughed, I cried, and hurt for them, but at the end I was happy with where they were and how they got there. Every situation happens for a reason, Syd’s misdial lead to them both finding happiness.
“…this felt like someone had cut me open and filled me with a thousand heartbeats.”
This book is filled with secrets, guilt, chemistry, forgiveness, hope, humor, friendship and second chances.
This is the first book that I have read by J. Daniels and I am so glad I decided to read it! I loved this book, the writing, the characters. I cannot wait to read book 2
This was so amazing. Such a full, rich story with detailed characters full off passion and emotion. I was so mesmerized by the story and everything that was happening, I honestly feel blown away.
When Sydney Paige dials the number of her friend’s ex and is well prepared to let him have it she gets the surprise of her life, after she has already unleashed a mouthful of fury on him… she discovers she has dialed the wrong damn number!! Now not only is she embarrassed beyond belief, but she is also not any closer to letting the guy who actually deserved the phone call have it. So she hangs up with high hopes she will never have to talk to Mr. Wrong Number again, he on the other hand has other plans, he liked what he heard on the other end of the line and he wants to exchange more words with her, but she has her reservations. Not only is her friend having man troubles, but she is also facing her own set of man issues too, her husband of seven years wants out of their marriage and she doesn’t have the slightest clue where she went wrong. So, signing herself up for anything else with another man is kind of out of the question right now… or is it?
The instant Brian Savage answers his phone and there is a sultry voice on the other end of the line handing him an ass chewing like he has never had before he is intrigued, and also finds the whole situation quite amusing… little does she know she is wasting her breath on the wrong man. Brian doesn’t have the heart to interrupt her, nor does he really want to, because something in her voice has him feeling things he’s never experienced before and he isn’t quite ready to let the moment pass. Once she is finally done he breaks the news to her that she has dialed the wrong number, and the minute the words leave his mouth he knows she is completely mortified, and he can help but feel a little sorry for her, she just said her peace to the wrong guy and it served her no purpose. After exchanging a few words they say their goodbyes, with the thought that they will never talk again, but there is just something about the fiery woman that Brian can’t let go of, so he decides to contact her… and gets far more than he bargained for!!
The minute I met these two I was completely entranced by their story, their relationship obviously started off quite unconventional, but it was pretty evident from the beginning that they were a match made in literary heaven, and I truly enjoyed watching their “relationship” bloom into a well deserved happily ever after. This was my first read from this author, and I have to say I was fairly impressed with what I found, her inventive story line and endearing characters completely won me over and quickly turned me into a fan!! I cannot wait to delve back into the pages of another one of her stories and get better acquainted with more characters from the Dirty Deeds series!! Highly recommend this one, it is certain to have you smiling and blushing throughout!!
