Love this series! Wonderful story line. Great characters. Highly recommend
I’ve always enjoyed J. Daniel’s books so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Four Letter Word. I’ve been looking forward to this series and I’m so happy to say that I enjoyed this book.
“Wanna set your whole fucking world on fire, babe, ’cause that’s what you’ve done to mine.”
Sydney Paige has always been her best friend’s rock. So when she calls Sydney about what her horrible ex-boyfriend has done, Sydney is there to help, despite the fact that her husband has just told her he no longer wants to be married. In an attempt to battle for her BFF, Sydney calls the ex to give him her piece of mind. Except the number she dialed happened to be a complete stranger. A complete stranger that she totally ripped a new one to.
Brian Savage was absolutely intrigued by the woman who just called him up and ripped into him. He finds her refreshing and can’t stop thinking about her. When he starts to chat her up, he quickly realized that she’s the best thing that has ever happened to him. Unfortunately, he has a pretty heavy secret that he doesn’t want her to find out so he tries to keep her at bay without losing her. Will he be able to keep his secret and keep the girl or will it all fall apart?
Man, I had a fun ride with this book. The dialogue between Sydney and Brian in that first call was just absolutely amazing and hilarious. Everyone needs a best friend like Sydney in their lives. She’s funny and super loyal. Watching her pick herself up after her failed marriage and move on was nice to see. I enjoyed seeing the real Sydney emerge and recapture her life.
I adore Brian. He has a heart of gold but his secrets were wearing him down. Every emotion he had came out of true love and just genuine kindness. Add that to the fact that he has one hell of a dirty mouth and he’s just swoon worthy. He’s not perfect but everything he does has a reason behind it and he balances Sydney perfectly.
I will have to say that J. Daniels has delivered some hot and steamy reads in this book. I swear I think each book gets better and better with steaminess mixed with dirtiness and I eat it up! With the build up between Tori (Sydney’s best friend) and Jamie (Brian’s best friend) I can only image what she will deliver in Hit the Spot. I’m already salivating to get my greedy hands on it!
If you are looking for a HOT, SEXY read with the right balance of a dirty mouth, sweetness and angst, then this is the book for you! I highly recommend it.
*4-4.5 Stars*
Having already read the 3rd book in this series, I’ve been wanting to come back to the beginning so I could read the other two books and be caught up.
I enjoyed this one, even though it did feel a little long at the start. I really liked both Syd and Brian, and I loved all the secondary characters as well. The text conversations between Syd and Brian were cute, but I was waiting for them to hurry up and actually end up meeting each other.
Once it finally gets to that point of the story, things moved a lot nicer for me. I adored the two of them together and seeing each other, and I also loved the antics between Jamie and Tori (bring on their book!) and also such cute things as Oliver and Olivia.
I loved how much Brian, as the male lead, feels things in this book. I love how Syd learns to be herself again, and I love how they help each other do it all.
This was a great read, and I definitely look forward to continuing the series.
I liked the storyline and I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. I thought it was fun and cute how Sydney and Brian met and how their relationship began based on calls and texts. But once they finally met in person, and we got to “hear” Brian really “speak”, it took me completely out of the book and I had to push through to finish. His lack of pronouns at the beginning of sentences and his overall way of speaking just ruined things for me. It’s just too Kristen Ashleyesque and I refuse to read anything more of hers (KA) because of the way she has her character talk. It pains me to say this, but if Four Letter Word had been my first J. Daniels book, it might have probably been my last as well.
As disappointing as this one was for me, I do plan on reading Hit the Spot. I liked Jamie and Tori, even though they both had their irritating moments, so we’ll just have to see how they are in their own book. Hopefully Jamie isn’t as pronounless as Brian.
