In the days leading up to her wedding to Darcy O’Mara, Lady Georgiana Rannoch takes on the responsibilities of a grand estate, but proving she can run a household just may be the death of her in the new Royal Spyness Mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of On Her Majesty’s Frightfully Secret Service. If only Darcy and I had eloped! What I thought would be a simple wedding has been … be a simple wedding has been transformed into a grand affair, thanks to the attendance of the queen, who has offered up the princesses as bridesmaids. Silly me! I thought that withdrawing from the royal line of succession would simplify my life. But before Darcy and I tie the knot in front of queen and country, we have to find a place to live as man and wife…
House hunting turns out to be a pretty grim affair. Just as we start to lose hope, my globetrotting godfather offers us his fully staffed country estate. Mistress of Eynsleigh I shall be! With Darcy off in parts unknown, I head to Eynsleigh alone, only to have my hopes dashed. The grounds are in disarray and the small staff is suspiciously incompetent. Not to mention the gas tap leak in my bedroom, which I can only imagine was an attempt on my life. Something rotten is afoot–and bringing the place up to snuff may put me six feet under before I even get a chance to walk down the aisle…

Part of an excellent series by a great author.
Georgie is my favorite of Rhys Bowen’s characters. Such a good heart but not to be walked over. She does manage to end up in scary predicaments.
I was so sad when I finished this. I miss Georgie and friends already!!! Can’t wait for the next in the series…
I enjoy all of Rhys Bowen’s books even though the series can be different one from the other. Excellent writer, interesting plots.
I really like this particular series by this author.
I have been waiting patiently for the one book to tie the series together and this one helps. I love this series and hope it will continue.
Always look forward to reading about her royal spyness.
Georgie and Darcy to be Married at Last!
PG – Teens to adults
No sex
No gore
No unsuitable language
12th book in the series – It would be best to read this one after reading others.
The wedding date is set. What could possibly go wrong? Queenie, Georgie’s impossibly clumsy maid is off in Ireland making a success of herself as a cook. Belinda, Georgie’s best friend and fashion designer has the perfect dress in mind. Georgie’s mother will soon marry Max, who is only doing a little bit of business with those nasty Nazis. And, good news! Rather than having to start married life in a tiny apartment in town, Georgie finds that her Godfather has willed her his beautiful ancestral home and is happy to have her take up residence now, since he spends most of his time globe trotting.
But wait. Upon arrival circumstances at the estate are not as Georgie remembers. All of the staff have been replaced and are unwelcoming, not to mention surly and incompetent. It’s been years, but wasn’t the home more beautifully decorated?
Something is most definitely wrong – wrong enough that Georgie feels better securing her bedroom door every night.
Entertaining, fast-paced reading.
ENJOY!
I love Rhys Bowen books! Especially the Royal Spyness series! Good plotting, great setting. One of my favorite cozies!
One of my favorite series. Always pre order as soon as announced.
Her royal slyness FINALLY goes all the way!
Characters are like goofy old friends.
I have been reading the entire series. I liked this one, but not as much as the earlier books.
Georgiana is a month away from saying “I do” to Darcy. And as with all weddings, things are going smoothly. First, their is the whens and wheres of the wedding since she still is a royal and the guest list. Over and over again, Georgiana wishes that she and Darcy could have just eloped. Secondly, on the list of worries is where will they live? She and Darcy aren’t rich, and the flats that they have looked at are horrendous at best. Just when it seems that all hope is lost, Georgiana’s ex-stepfather sends a letter and invitation to live in his estate. Delighted by this gift, Georgiana is fast to go to the estate and set up home before the wedding.
Of course, her arrival does not go as planned when she is welcomed by the most unwelcoming staff. Even worse, the house is in terrible disarray. What has the staff been doing all this time? The butler is rude, the maid doesn’t want to help with duties, the cook is a disaster, and the gardeners apparently don’t garden. Worst yet, it seems that someone wants to kill her. With a staff that refuses to be fired, Georgiana finds some relief when Mummy decides to come stay with her after her engagement ends.
Can Georgiana get the estate back on track before the wedding or before the staff kills her? Something is definitely wrong…can she figure it out before it’s to late?
A fun read.
Rhys Bowen spins a marvelous, fun read! A little romance, but nothing overt, keeps you hoping for more in the first books. Through all the books, the intrigue remains. Light hearted but very engaging. You’ll fall in love with the characters.
I love this series and the time it’s set in but am sad to say it might be starting to show its age
I have read all the books in this series and gave them all 5 stars. This book, I could only give a 3 rating. It just didn’t have much of a plot.
I have read all of the books in this series, and find them to be quite entertaining. They are a quick read, not like reading a Dickens novel, but very enjoyable, and well written.
“Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding”, by Rhys Bowen is a witty and entertaining mystery. This is the twelve book in “A Royal Spyness Mystery” series. This is the only book that I have read and can be read as a stand-alone. The Genres for this Novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Mystery with a tad of Wit, Satire, and Romance. Poking fun at British Royalty, Rhys Bowen has provided an intriguing story.
The characters in this story are complex, complicated, and quirky. Lady Georgiana Rannock (Georgie) and Darcy O’Mara have scheduled their wedding for the summer. Georgie received a letter from one of her mother’s former husbands, and states that he is gifting her his estate to live in when she marries, and leaving a small space for him to reside in when he is home. He also mentions he would like Georgie to check on his house and make sure that everything seems fine. Darcy is away at his work.
Georgie heads to the estate only to find a Butler with rude manners, a cook that cannot cook and a maid that looks down on her work. Although Georgie starts to realize something is off, when someone leaves the gas on in her room. Other strange things start to happen that she realizes that she is in danger. Georgie has her Mother, and maid come to visit. Strange things, disappearances and bodies start showing up. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest reviews. I would recommend this for readers that enjoy a quirky British mystery.
