A great classic, read as a child and still enjoy as an adult. Behind the story tells the history of a great empire growing, peaking and in decline.
A fantasy look to the future,A history lesson, or contemporary, commentary on the world we live in today… Foundation, after all these years still has a lot to offer.
Asimov is one of the classic greats who never get tiring.
I started the Foundation series with this book and keenly read all the following books in the series. I found the concept and story interesting and showing much creativityl
A classic series
Foundation was much easier to read than I expected for a true sci-fi classic. If your a fan of Star Wars and Star Trek, it’s fun to see where so many words and concepts that have become familiar originated (like parsec, lightspeed, etc). From a governance/political view, Asimov says a lot of interesting things about the way governments keep the …
I reread this book for the first time since the 70s. The plot still holds up well. Aspects of the science is a bit dated. Still an entertaining read.
Simply a classic, well written, with a river of truth running through it.
First of the series. I only enjoyed about half of the series, and not this one. A little slow for my taste. I much prefer the robot stories.
One of the best books I’ve ever read by one of my alltime favorite authors.. It’s part of a fantastic trilogy..
Got around to re-reading one of my favorite books as a teen, 20+ years later? Did it hold up? Did it retain the same sense of smart characters, wonder, structure, and plot of which I remembered it so fondly? In a word: No. Still good, though.
The entire Foundation trilogy is a must read for SiFi fans. A true classic, I have the paper editions of all three as keepsakes.
where are we heading as a culture? try this book
Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” is the first and the best in his “Foundation Trilogy”. What I love about “Foundation” is that Asimov sets up the idea that history follows patterns that will lead to inevitable outcomes. In this first book, Hari Seldon develops this theory and sets up a kind of algorithm that will help humanity to survive, maintain …
Asimov is always great, and Foundation is no exception. The setting is FAR into the future, after humans have explored and settled other worlds. In fact, it is so far into the future that people have forgotten their earth origins. What follows is the story of a galactic empire that is predicted to fall apart, but one scientist convinces leaders …
Asimov’s future has a way of becoming our present. The Foundation represents a commitment for sanity and sustainability in a universe that has become infected by greed and power. The determined and gifted leadership of the Foundation is a last hope based on good sight and selfless commitment. We could use some of the same formula in today’s …
One of the three books that turned me into a science fiction “freak.” The Foundation Trilogy should be a must read for all.
I love Isaac Asimov. Once I start his books, I can’t stop till it’s finished. The characters are always interesting, and sometimes weird. While you think you can predict what they are going to do, think again, they’ll probably do just the opposite or something completely off the wall. No matter how many times I read an Asimov book, I always find …
Probably a must-read for a literary appreciation of the roots of modern science fiction. Asimov has an entertaining style, but the modern reader will probably be conversant with the ideas that drive the plot. It was really entertaining for me as a pre-teen or teenager an eon ago, and would be a fine “airplane book” for anyone.
once you start into this series you won’t be able to put it down.
Classic science fiction worth a re-read. Likely my third time reading, last read maybe 30 years ago.
