The gypsy blessing that passed through the generations
OMG!!! If you have not read the first book ‘The Gypsy Blessing’ you should. However, do not despair, this book references the first book and gives enough clues to let you know what had gone on before. Having said that, it will also drive you crazy, because you will want to know what happened that started this chain of events. You MUST read the first book. Otherwise, you will have to endure the author’s maddening habit of sprinkling out the clues a little at a time. Those clues are the previous pictures, journals, and items left in an old trunk embossed with the name Elizabeth Rose Bennett—minus the last letter t. This author was devious like that, nefarious creature.
When I wrote my review of the first book, I said it was similar to a—you’ve got mail of future events—and that was true, with the first book. The premonitions came to the early Elizabeth via the mail [or would just appear on her table, desk or nightstand]. This story utilized our modern technology. The references were more like—you’ve got a text message or a photo. The book cover shows what Lizzy would see when she answered the tone from her phone. They were photos/screenshots foretelling of what was to come. Several benign pictures appeared first to establish credibility and then came the scary foretelling photos that made Lizzy run to the rescue of more than one person.
Darcy was a complex man that had been through hell, literally. He was following his parents’ limo and watched the wreck that killed them and nearly killed Georgiana. Their high-profile life suddenly became fodder for the paparazzi that hounded their everyday existence. Women from all over suddenly converged on the grieving heir. Caroline Bingley, although not present in this story, was discussed many times. I would describe her as a scheming, social climbing, piranha that went to extreme lengths to become Mrs. Darcy. Man, her actions were insane. Poor Charles.
We have appearances from all our favorite characters and I just loved them. The friendships and parings were delightful. It was so cute.
I can’t even begin to describe this Mrs. Bennet. She was worse than canon. If that is even possible. Talk about your clueless and ignorant. She didn’t follow proper business policies that jeopardized their business, ignored her husband and Lizzy trying to tell her anything, and pushed her daughters toward rich men, any rich man. Lawd, that woman got on my last nerve, and it was already stretched to the limit.
Lydia was… OMG!! She was simply a naïve, ignorant, teenager trying to be an adult and she crashed and burned big—BIG—time. This was a lesson that she will NEVER forget. I blame her mother first and her father second. This was so unacceptable that it was a disgrace. I am so upset with all three of them.
Wickham was an immoral, scum-bag-rat-bastard and he used every angle possible to secure funds from Darcy. The end scenes with him were horrific. I was so scared and upset. I kept thinking, this can’t be happening. How is the Gypsy Blessing going to get them out of this situation? OMG!!! I was a wreck. It was awesome!!
I liked both books. In fact, I think I liked this one even better than the first one and it had a delightful epilogue. This was a clean read and I recommend it to anyone who likes a little something different with their JAFF [Jane Austen Fan Fiction]. Some might not like the paranormal aspects; however, I thought it was fun.
