Forty Candles – a standalone romantic comedy coming August 8, 2018!
I’ve always done what was expected of me. I married the man that my family thought I was supposed to. I turned a blind eye when his after work activities weren’t really for work. What I couldn’t look past anymore was how lonely I’d become.
All it took was one night to change my life.
I filed for a separation.
I moved my teenage … separation.
I moved my teenage daughter and me in with my parents.
Did I mention that my room should be placed in an 80’s museum? Yes, it’s not changed in decades.
Then my life changed again right before my 40th birthday.
Just when I thought things were going to get back to normal, in walks Lenny Ward. He’s the man your parents warn you about. You know the type… A body like a God, smart, oh and the sex… It’s like a 10.0 earthquake off the charts type of connection.
Even though we have chemistry, I have to protect not only my heart but my daughters.

This book is bittersweet, as it is the last book written by one of my favorite authors! I almost didn’t want to finish it because never reading her words again saddens me, a true author and I absolutely loved each and every one of her books. So with that here goes….
Follow the story of Jules, newly single mom to her daughter Sophia, as she moves back to her parent’s home to start over. Thank god she still has her design business. That’s how she meets Lenny Ward, who’s looking for a new designer and if she lands this job her and Sophia will be home free. What she doesn’t anticipate is falling for the hot Lenny!
This book was so well written by A.M. Willard as her farewell book, unbeknownst to her, her words will forever live on in this story, as I absolutely loved it. Please grab this one and enjoy it. 5 heavenly angels for this one….
A.M. Thank you for your books, I have enjoyed your stories more than you will ever know. Rest easy, you are very much missed. R.I.P. <3
This novel was extremely captivating, well written with a good story line and great characters. Another amazing book from an amazing author, so sad that it was her last work. Don’t miss out and go buy it, it’s worth it!! RIP A.M. Willard!!!
This was bittersweet to read because it’s A.M. Williard’s last book. Learning of her passing then her friends and family rallied together to let her last work into the world for us to enjoy brings tears to my eyes. I’m so thankful they helped get this book published because it’s such a good story. I laughed a lot, but the one thing I kept thinking about while reading was hope. Keep on fighting and persevering because there is always hope. Jules’ life has been turned upside down nearing the age forty she never expected to be where she is now, but she grabs a hold of her new beginning with providing for her daughter has her drive. I just loved Lenny. He’s a playboy, but once learn his past you understand why he lives his life he does. One of my favorite things about this book is the way Lenny wants to be a better man for Jules. She brings out the true man deep in him that he hardly shows the world. I would so recommend this book because you have the laughs and the steam, but after finishing this it makes you feel good.
Lenny and Jules’ story is amazing. The growth those two go through to get where they belong is truly amazing to read. The loss of A. M. Willard will leave a gaping hole in the literary world.
I have always loved Annelle Willards writing but this one for me was extra special. She always manages to bring her trademark wit mixed with great humour to her books and this one was no different. it was heart-warming, sweet, and filled with red hot passion.
Once you start this book you will be drawn in and hooked. She has given us great characters in Lenny and Jules that you relate to and become invested in. The connection between them from the moment they meet is immense and the sexual tension is simmering away ready to explode.
I loved Jules from the start. Her life has imploded, she caught her husband cheating and has had to move back to her parents with her teenage daughter. Thank god she still has her design business that her ex can’t touch, its through that she meets Lenny when he meets with her for a business proposition. That man could charm and swoon the pants off a nun. I loved how he accepted her daughter straight away and the bond between them was so sweet.
Even though the ending was happy it brought some tears to my eyes as I finished it as the realisation that this was the last book from a great author. heaven really did gain an angel too soon.
Thank you for your books, for the hours of joy you gave me RIP Annelle xx
Heartwarming, sweet, and giggle inducing Forty Candles checked all the boxes for everything I love! I love it when a book is plain fun to read. You know when you pick up a book and you’re glued to the pages and the writing is just so wonderfully that you’re so immersed in the characters and it truly feels like you’re there? That’s this book. I was so deep into Lenny and Jules story time lost all meaning until I finished reading.
A.M. Willard so brilliantly wrote this where this romantic comedy is right up front, but a deeper emotional connection is still there making Lenny and Jules incredible easy to feel connected to while you’re reading. Jules especially was one that I loved. She was so relatable on so many levels to me. As a mom, as a woman creeping ever closer to forty, she felt like someone who could be a friend while at the same time she kept me smiling.
Lenny was nearly just as great. His confirmed bachelor past not taking away from the fact he truly was a sweet man. He had me swooning more than once and then melted my heart with his genuine love of not just Jules, but also her daughter.
Forty Candles by A.M. Willard is a fun contemporary romance. When you’re just a few months shy of forty, you don’t want to move back into your parents’ house because you’re in the middle of a very ugly divorce. However, that is exactly the position Jules and her daughter are in.
Jules, our heroine, is a stand up gal. She was able to hang onto her business and reputation, but little else. Her soon-to-be ex-husband is despicable. The struggles of a divorce and parenting a teen, are taxing enough, and when you throw in a new, lusty client, you’ve got a whole lot of trouble! Enter Lenny Ward, who is described as a player…however, I never really got that vibe from the character.
Jules and Lenny’s relationship develops at a nice, realistic pace. I appreciated the differentiation between loneliness, lust and love. Jules’ daughter Sophia is portrayed as a very realistic teen. She is equally adorable and challenging. I appreciated the small town, country club setting with its “everyone knows everything” feel.
#StaySassy wherever you are Annelle Willard! R.I.P.
It’s unfortunate that I learned of this author with her passing and the chance to review this her last book. It is a great read and the characters are ones that will steal your heart and fill it with good feels. The struggle is real for her. Trying to make sure she doesn’t find herself back in the mess she just got out of, she is determined to make it on her own not her partners. Sofie is a doll and the kind of teen we all wish we had. He just got knocked off his game the first minute he saw her and shortly thereafter hung up his man whore ways, finding himself invested in their happiness. It’s a wonderful read full of passionate scenes and battling fears. It is my first read by this author and I will most definitely be reading more.
