I was so happy I took a chance on reading Fortune’s Son. First rate, thrilling, educational and touched my heart. I look forward to more of Jennifer Scoullar’s writing.
I really enjoyed this book. It was not a book I would normally have chosen, but so glad I did. Very interesting to follow Luke from his humble beginnings to achieving success. I found the book inspirational in that if you put your mind to something seriously you will get there.
This book is set in Tasmania and South Africa; it is well-written and the plot holds one’s interest to the very end. I was so drawn into the story that I researched some of the animals and flowers mentioned, and they inspired me to do some charcoals and painting.
Amazing writing. Quite educational. Gifted storytelling. Heartbreaking environmental destruction.
This has been one of my summer favorites! The setting was so beautifully described. The characters came alive. I read well into the night as I couldn’t ever come to a place I wanted to stop. I was sad when the book was over!
A fascinating view of early Tasmania!
I loved getting a feeling for what Tasmania must be like. It takes place over a period of many years.
“Oh, what a tangled web” of deceit!
Fantastic book! Great story and plot!
This is a great story, a fascinating story. The descriptions of where the story takes place are wonderful.
I’d have given it five stars, except that it is in dire need of editing. It has been my practice when I find this level of editing needed that I throw the book away; however, this one has such an excellent story and interesting characters, that I kept going, and I am glad I did.
I normally read American Western novels but stumbled on this book about Australia and Africa set in the 1800,s. Very good book!
A good story fun to read a young lad to an adult with traces of Rider Haggard.
Easy to read and light novel. Nothing too complex or deep. I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this book.
Wonderful reading! The second book in this series was great also.
Too far-fetched for me. It did keep my interest enough to finish it though. Too many bad things happened for me to really like it.
Enjoyed this book very much
Great book!!
Good historical Kiwi adventure/romance story.
I loved learning about the two places written about in this book. Wonderful description of everything and great story too.
