From “the most popular mystery writer alive” (The New York Times), the twenty-seventh entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series isn’t just the biggest case of Stephanie Plum’s career. It’s the adventure of a lifetime. When Stephanie’s beloved Grandma Mazur’s new husband died on their wedding night, the only thing he left her was a beat-up old easy chair…and the keys to a life-changing … chair…and the keys to a life-changing fortune.
But as Stephanie and Grandma Mazur search for Jimmy Rosolli’s treasure, they discover that they’re not the only ones on the hunt. Two dangerous enemies from the past stand in their way—along with a new adversary who’s even more formidable: Gabriela Rose, a dark-eyed beauty from Little Havana with a taste for designer clothes. She’s also a soldier of fortune, a gourmet cook, an expert in firearms and mixed martial arts—and someone who’s about to give Stephanie a real run for her money.
Stephanie may be in over her head, but she’s got two things that Gabriela doesn’t: an unbreakable bond with her family and a stubborn streak that will never let her quit.
She’ll need both to survive because this search for “fortune and glory” will turn into a desperate race against time with more on the line than ever before. Because even as she searches for the treasure and fights to protect her Grandma Mazur, her own deepest feelings will be tested—as Stephanie could finally be forced to choose between Joe Morelli and Ranger.

I got an early copy of this book from the publisher and I can not even begin to explain how happy that made me. Stephanie Plum is my happy place. If I am having a bad day, I pick up one of the now 27 books and she always manages to make me smile.
Grandma Mazur is a widow again and jimmy left behind a huge mess of a mystery. Jimmy’s friends are out to get grandma because they think she hold the keys to the treasure. Stephanie will stop at nothing to keep grandma safe. This book was full of adventure and humor. I literally loved every word. Stephanie still has picked between Ranger and Morelli… but I mean can we blame her? This book does have a lot more Ranger, which makes me a happy girl.
This book has a little bit of a different feel. There was alot more danger and mystery. There was the quirkiness we have all come to love but it felt alot more real because grandma was in serious danger throughout the book. If you love Stephanie Plum get ready to love her even more and buckle up for a wild ride!
I loved this book. I will always love Stephanie and the gang and I can’t wait for everyone to read this so I can talk to them about the details!
Fortune and Glory, also known as Tantalizing Twenty-Seven, is the latest Stephanie Plum mystery novel by Janet Evanovich, published in November 2020. I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning, reading them all at once during my initial introduction… but for the last decade reading them the week they’re released. I always enjoy them, even if they can become slightly repetitive, and recommend them to others who like sarcastic humor and unbelievable situations that we wish could happen… maybe not the actual murders, but definitely all the hilarity.
Stephanie’s grandmother married a man in the mob… in her eighties after Stephanie’s grandpa died. Then he died too, and he left behind some La-Z-Boy chairs with secrets about a treasure. Stephanie agrees to find out where all 6 hidden clues are located, especially when 3 of the 6 men who held them are now dead. By the end of the book, more bite the dust, and Stephanie almost blows herself up at least 5 times. She also trudges through the underground tunnels of Trenton, encountering rats, bats, and crazy mafia folks. Oh, and I forgot… Morelli and Stephanie are on a break again, so things heat up with Ranger.
You’ll experience all the same fun with Lulu, but Potts is a new character whom Stephanie has to apprehend when he skips bail. He’s got a problem with pooping in public, and now, he refuses to go back to court. But when Stephanie saves him from certain death, he agrees to be her bodyguard, except he’s often asleep or causing more problems. In the end, he does help her find the clues, and he provides immense comic relief. The mindset of Evanovich cannot be paralleled when it comes to humor and wit. I am already excited about the next book in 2021… and it looks like a new series / book with a supporting character (Gloria) that begins here is gonna kick off!
I absolutely adore Stephanie Plum. She’s totally inept at almost everything, but somehow, she always manages to persist until the job is done. The stories are always delightfully entertaining and witty. Everything from her professional life to her romantic life is always in a state of chaos and it is so much fun to see Stephanie deal with it. Some readers seem to be concerned about the Ranger Vs Morelli saga, but not me. Ranger is quite adamant he’s not ready to settle down and I don’t think Morelli is either – but then, I don’t think Stephanie is ready for marriage and a house in the burbs either. So, maybe at some point, she’ll choose one of them – or there’ll be somebody new.
“Truth is, I didn’t know how to categorize Ranger. He was more than just a friend, but he didn’t feel like a boyfriend. There were times when our relationship felt more like a marriage. There was an acceptance of personality that was sometimes lacking between Morelli and me. Maybe that was because Ranger and I had no illusions about a binding, long-term commitment. There wasn’t as much at stake between us.”
For the last few books, we’ve been dealing with Stephanie’s Grandma’s forty-five-minute long marriage to an elderly retired mobster hitman. Yep – they married and before they could leave the wedding site, he had a heart attack and died. Now, his elderly cronies – known as the La-Z-Boys (because of their recliners) think Grandma has the clues to lead them to a treasure they’ve had hidden for many years. She doesn’t – or if she does, she doesn’t know it. We’re finally down to the last three of the mobsters who are after Stephanie and Grandma and one of them is totally insane. Each of the mobsters has a single clue about the hidden treasure – Stephanie knows two of the clues – she just needs to get the others and find the treasure before they end her and Grandma.
“That leaves Shine, Salgusta, and Benny the Skootch. I need their clues.”
Stephanie has her hands totally full trying to keep Grandma safe and also keep up with her work as a Bail Bonds Enforcement Agent. Yes, Stephanie is the inept version of “Dog the Bounty Hunter”. Somehow, she always manages to get her man/woman though – often with the help of Ranger who finds her antics entertaining. She has three men to hunt down this time – you’ll love their crimes – and two of them are big, aggressive, and mean. The other one is annoying as the devil but so very entertaining to read. I wonder if we’ll see him in any future books.
“Potts started his nervous humming. He had a right to be nervous. He’d been punctured, shot at, and kidnapped. And in spite of all that, he was sticking with me. That took guts. There was strength of character buried under all his weirdness. Unfortunately, that didn’t make him any less annoying”
It is a fun, rollicking, adventuresome time watching Stephanie avoid kidnapping while traipsing through dark, damp, rat-infested tunnels to track down the bad guys, save Grandma, and maybe even find the treasure. She does all of that without much (if any) help from Morelli, but lots of help from Ranger – who keeps her supplied with cars she keeps wrecking. Add a newcomer, Gabriella Rose, into the mix (I think she might be getting her own series) and poor Stephanie has her hands full.
I hope you will read the book and be as totally entertained as I was. It is always great to visit with Stephanie and all of her friends and family – Grandma Mazur, Morelli, Ranger, Connie – and Lula – goodness we can’t forget Lula who is as entertaining as they come. It is an entertaining and fun read and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Fortune and Glory is the 27th book in the Stephanie Plum series, and it’s as funny as all of the previous books. Yes, it can be frustrating that Stephanie is still so bad at her job as a bounty hunter, and it’s especially ridiculous that she never seems to be carrying a gun — no matter how dangerous the criminals are. I know a couple of my friends have stopped reading the series because of the way Stephanie goes from her boyfriend Joe Morelli to her “friend with benefits” Ranger. But the series remains on my Must-Read list because of the humor. As long as Lulu and Grandma Mazur are in the series, I will keep reading it. And if you like audiobooks, Lorelei King does a wonderful job narrating the series.
This is the 27th book in the Stephanie Plum series. In the previous book, Grandma Mazur enlists Stephanie to try to find her recently deceased gangster husband, Jimmy, and his La-Z-Boys gangster buddies’ treasure. So now, in this one, they’re trying to find the treasure before the guys get them. Stephanie is also doing her typical bungling ways to catch FTAs. One in particular, Potts, latches on to her as her protector. I can’t help but chuckle. And of course she enlists help from Ranger, especially since she’s on the outs again with Morelli. In addition, there’s a new character that we might end up seeing again. Looking forward to what Janet Evanovich will come up with next. Well done!
After more than two dozen novels, can an author keep a crime fiction series fresh and surprising?
Maybe not. Neither our favorite series characters nor our longtime friends generally re-invent themselves as time goes by. But that’s hardly fatal in fiction when the author is as accomplished as Janet Evanovich and her protagonist as appealing as Stephanie Plum.
“Fortune and Glory” is the twenty-seventh (27th!) entry in the series featuring the lingerie hunter turned bounty hunter. That’s even more than the twenty-five novels in Sue Grafton’s (“A” is for Alibi”) Kinsey Millhone series. By comparison, Raymond Chandler wrote seven Philip Marlowe novels.
The fortune of the title involves a mysterious bequest from Grandma Mazur’s new husband, aging mobster Jimmy Rosolli, who conveniently drops dead of a heart attack at the wedding reception. The keys to the treasure are – well, actual keys – hidden under the cushion of Rosolli’s battered recliner. Problem is, crime associates of the deceased bridegroom want to get their hands on the loot, if any there be. (There’s always the chance this is a “Maltese Falcon” deal, right?)
You see where this is going. Chases between Trenton and Atlantic City. Romantic conflicts as Stephanie is torn between Joe Morelli and Ranger, old sidekicks from earlier books. Wisecracks and breezy writing zing the story along.
Longtime fans will happily ride shotgun with Stephanie down the New Jersey turnpike and might take notice of a new character. The dark-eyed beauty Gabriela Rose, a soldier-of-fortune and martial arts expert, shows up and might just be the protagonist in a new series. Stay tuned for that.
I played this audiobook almost non stop laughing and chuckling all the time. Janet Evanovich does a great job writing these books and Lorelei King is perfect narrating all the different characters. The hunt for a key and criminals popping up keep the action going.
I have always wanted to read Janet Evanovich’s The Plum Novels, and this 27th book in the series really is a reason why these books end up in the NYT bestselling lists time and time again.
In this installment, Stephanie Plum takes us into a high stakes treasure hunt after her grandma Mazur’s husband dies on the wedding night left with keys to some fortune. I loved the humor and the formidable characters in the book like George, the sidekick and assassin, and Gabriela Rose a gourmet cook and firearms expert who is always red carpet ready. Stephanie is not the only one on the hunt which makes this a dangerous mission.
Overall, this was such a nail biting and thrilling read I loved! I am definitely a fan!
If you like the Stephanie plum books, you’ll like this. Although, some of the things are the same in them all.
Although there are numerous repeat scenes in these books (cars being destroyed, kidnappings, Stephanie’s guy issues), I can’t help but love them. Every book is unique in its own special way.
In this one Stephanie does a good deed and puts up the bail money to re-bail one of her FTOs. His nickname is “The Pooper” due to his crime and he has many issues. He also insists that he now protect Stephanie and be her bodyguard. He is a great character despite his issues and plays a big part in the hunt for the treasure.
Another new character is Gabriela Rose. She is a bit mysterious in the beginning, but also ends up playing a big part in the hunt. Gabriela has many talents and I think her and Stephanie will work well together, so I’m hoping we see her more in the future.
Grandma Mazur and Lula haven’t changed and that’s a good thing. Stephanie is still torn between Joe and Ranger, but that is a fun addition to the story. We are now 27 books into this series and I still love it.
Given what’s going on in the world, who doesn’t need to escape by spending a few hours with Stephanie Plum right now? And this latest book in the series is one of the best ones yet. Fast-paced, as usually, but also very well plotted. Plus, it introduces a new character that I was excited to learn will return in the next book.
I’m never disappointed with a Stephanie Plum read, really enjoyed this book!! The bonus story was a treat!
Another Plum fun book! We all need a laugh now and this book gives one.
Can’t decide my favorite character because they are all great! Love this series!
A laugh riot I want to share with friends classic fun fun fun
It’s great to share in another of Stephanie’s adventures, she certainly keeps us entertained.
Both Morelli and Ranger have involvement throughout this adventure, it is a must read.
Loved this book! Had a hard time putting it down. Love Stephanie she is so entertaining and Lula is the most hilarious side-kick ever!
I have enjoyed and yes, laughed my backside off with every single book of this series, starting with “One for the Money”. This book was no exception and as with all good books it didn’t last near long enough! The synopsis gives you the idea of what is going on, so don’t forget to read it. I highly recommend this book and can confidently tell you that if there is even the slightest hint of humor inside you, you will love it!
Once again Janet Evanovich has created a clever, funny Stephanie Plum caper with all the characters we love plus a few new comers. If you have enjoyed the other Stephanie Plum novels you will love this one.
Action packed and very entertaining. Really enjoyed spending time with Stephanie and the new characters introduced in this book.
