Look at my swollen heart! Geezzz… Jewel had stolen my heart again with Fortuity. Kismet? Second-unexpected love stories? I cant undo my feelings because I have too much of it!
Nate and Gracelyn were odds characters and let me tell you.. They had made me laugh so hard with their antics.. the crazy bizzare mind talking? What about Outlander Jamie Fraser obsession? Highlander Nate with sexy red kilt?
Their connections were born out of loneliness and fear. I adoreeeeeeed Morgan and Gabe young spirit. They had me laugh until I cried.. giggle and heartbroken..
Fortuity was the perfect circle. The journey of two lonely people who desperately looking for everything but love.
Jewel had written a gripping memories.. that its okay to let go and to find love again.
This story was a heart-hitting. Its an unique relationships that in reality it may never happen only in Jewel’s magic land. I had started this book with no expectation and Im leaving with the biggest shape of heart
BRAVOOOOOOO Jewel!
Fortuity: A chance occurrence…
I love everything this author writes, this one in particular is such a lovely beautiful story. I’ve been so excited to jump back into Nate’s life, even a smidge more excited that previous characters made small appearances in this story. Even then, the new characters in this story were every bit just as wonderful.
I have a few favorite quotes:
“Life is a celebration. Cake needs no excuses”
“Life dies in a blink, but death… it lives for eternity”
“The most beautiful rainbows come from the harshest storms.”
May be read as a stand-alone but best to read Transcend and Epoch first.
Nathaniel Hunt story was the first book I ever read from Jewel E. Ann and from that special moment I’ve never stop reading her work. I say special moment because I think I share a special bond with this author, she shattered my heart in pieces and then mended it, even though my heart is broken she finds the way to give us a beautiful story that fills our heart with joy and happiness, and that is why I love her books so much. The journey she takes us, with all the ups and downs until we arrive to the happy ending.
When we read The Transcend Duet we knew that Nathaniel story can’t be over that way, he was such an amazing character that we needed more of him, we need to know if he is well and if he finally met someone special. When the author announced that Nathaniel (aka Nate) story was coming I couldn’t be happier because he was THE character that you will always love and I knew I MUST read FORTUITY.
FORTUITY, Gracelyn and Nate story, was EVERYTHING I wanted for him and more, so much more. Gracelyn was the perfect other half for Nate and the storyline the author gave us was absolutely PERFECTION. This touching and funny story is about finding love in unexpected places and times, Nate and Gracelyn know about love but they also know about loss, they lost true love and they never knew they will love again, until LOVE finds them.
This is a lovely journey between two single parents that are trying to raise their kids, they both has lost a lot on their lives and now they have the chance to have some fun while they’re sharing some time at the beach. Nathe and Gracelyn are not looking for a relationship but they can have time for stolen kisses with no regrets.
If you’ve read THE TRANSCEND DUET you MUST read this book and if you haven’t what are you waiting for? I highly recommend to read previous book to read this one, even though it is a standalone, I can guarantee that you’ll enjoy it better if you read Transcend and Epoch first.
“Maybe not everything in life dies with a final breath.
Maybe some things just…end.
Maybe it’s not forever.
Maybe it’s for now.”
My heart! Another fantastic journey of emotions by Jewel E. Ann!
This story! It is sheer beauty. The humor, the feels, the love. I laughed so much, I smiled, and I hurt. Jewel E. Ann gives us a story filled with grief and an abundance of love. These characters burrow into your heart and you want everything for them.
I have to give a huge shout out to Morgan. What a truly amazing character. She made this story for me. She is an absolute joy and is filled with so much heart.
The writing is stunning, and you feel everything Gracelyn, Nate, Gabe, and Morgan go through. It’s a heart-warming journey that will have you laughing out loud and make your heart soar. I loved every minute of it.
This book was an absolute joy. Seriously. I laughed. So much. I grinned like a maniac while reading. I remembered exactly why I loved Nathaniel Hunt from the Transcend duet and I fell in love with him all over again. I connected with these characters so fiercely that I was sad when it was over. It was EXACTLY what I needed. When I look back at bright spots during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, this will definitely be one of them. In fact, it may be the best book I’ve read so far this year. It was that enjoyable.
Yes, there is a character from the Transcend duet. No, you don’t have to read that duet before this…but, you may get a few spoilers if you do not, SOOOOOO, if you have any intention of reading Transcend and Epoch I would strongly recommend you read them first (which you should if you have not because they are fantastic!) I feel like I say this with every book by Jewel E Ann, but she is a master at character development and extremely good at making dialogue seem natural. I strongly attribute these strengths to why I love her books so much. She’s a great story teller as well, but it’s her character development that always draws me in. The moments of humor were really good, not over the top, and they really helped make this book memorable. Highly recommend!!!
Jewel E Ann never disappoints. I mean never. Fortuity connected my heart to a love that was captivating. A love between a dad and his daughter. A love between a aunt and her nephew. A love between a man and a woman. A love that heals and protects. A story of letting go of the past and fighting for a future of happiness. It’s simple with depth that reveals the human heart. It’s witty and made me laugh for life’s true moments of joy and discovery. It’s was heartbreaking when we sacrifice our desires for the people we love most. I soaked up everything Jewel wanted to convey in the story of Nate and Gracelyn. Jewel wrote this story with heart and wisdom. I feel in love with it all.
This was just beautiful.
I don’t think there are enough romances out there like this — where the characters are past the “prime” HEA age and the traditional HEA really isn’t a guarantee.
This was wonderful.
The characters and emotions were beautifully written and the story was great.
I laughed. I teared up. I was entirely sucked in.
I loved this all around and would heartily recommend this.
Favorite Quotes:
I’m retired from men. A series of unfortunate events forced me into early retirement. Death. Cheating. Houdini at the altar. I’m lucky like that.
“I’ve never had a boyfriend. And you haven’t had a girlfriend since Mom. It would be nice to practice a little before I start school this fall.” “Practice?” I tilt my head to the side. “Yes. If I get a boyfriend in school, I don’t want him to think I don’t know what I’m doing.” Kill. Me. Now… “It’s like when you try to get me to try something new to eat and I say I don’t like it. You say I can’t know that until I taste it. Well … I need a taste of a boyfriend.”
“It was the third strike. Three men have crushed me. I’ve officially retired from dating. I call it a man ban… How many strikes do you have?” I drum my fingers on the table. His lips corkscrew for a few seconds. “Two.” “See.”I point a finger at him. “You have one more chance. Don’t let it go to waste.” “Mmm …if that’s the case, I think I’ll save my third chance for the nursing home… Why not? A younger woman of course. Some hottie in her late eighties with her own teeth and who still wears red lipstick.” My smile threatens to crack my face. “Not me. If I had my last chance to use in the nursing home, I’d seduce a male nurse. We’d be the topic of all the gossip, and the other old biddies would hate me…”
Before I had the chance to fall in love. I dreamed of you. You didn’t have a face or a name. Your voice was simply a medley of my favorite love songs, the whisper in my head when reading my favorite poems about love. You were the reason I woke up two hours before school to do my hair and makeup in hopes that some boy would give me a second glance. It was you … the idea of you. The dream of you. The promise from my adoring mother that someday I would find my Romeo.
My Review:
I cherished and reveled in every perfectly chosen word of this beguiling and engaging tale. I adored these characters to the nth degree, all of them. I adored them as much as I admire and covet their creator’s full listing. I haven’t read them all but she has never failed to delight or hold my interest with her crafty wit, and unique and indescribably stellar storytelling skills. Fortuity hit all the feels and while the characters’ personal histories were tragic and heart-squeezing, the overall emotional balance tipped more heavily toward the side of smirk filled levity, wistful smiles, and well-pleased sighs. This was crazy good writing and although I haven’t read the first two books in the series and didn’t need to, it is now a deep desire to come full circle with the total experience. Jewel E. Ann is da bomb!
Absolutely loved this book. It’s a phenomenal conclusion to a truly great series (if it’s the end…it doesn’t really have to be. These characters have future lives.)
The other day, my daughter sat on her window seat with the most ridiculous grin on her face, I wanted to capture it on film. It was that giddy grin, the grin you get when someone in a book or on a tv show is about to kiss and it makes you SO happy and fills you with all these warm and fuzzy emotions. That grin is the reason I choose to read romance – I love that warm, happy, fizzy feeling.
And Fortuity puts a grin on your face and gives you that warm, buzzy, happy in spades. Nate might also be one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. I’ve had a crush on the book cover model version of him since finding Transcend, the first in this series. He’s the sexy professor, the guy who’s had shit luck, is an amazing dad, and the guy you want so badly to get all he deserves. Gracelyn hasn’t exactly had a smooth ride through life. In some ways, she’s off-kilter, but she’s lovable and unforgettable.
I love all of this author’s books. She’s a phenomenal writer. She brings quirky characters to life, makes me laugh, and brings to life all the feels. I think Fortuity might be my favorite book of hers, maybe because it’s Nate’s story (and I love him) and maybe because it’s 40+ love. It’s second, or third, maybe fourth (who’s counting) chance gone right.
Fortuity is defined as a chance occurrence; the state of being controlled by chance rather than design…
Fortitude refers to strength in the face of adversity or difficulty…
What I find most interesting about combining these two words together is the fact that even chance encounters can create problems, and in the case of Jewel E. Ann’s new hero and heroine, Nathaniel Hunt and Gracelyn Glock, the new dynamics they find themselves in, in no doing of their own, given how they became single parents, but in the face of hardships and difficulties, there’s also hope, which means that even though the things that have occurred have redefined their lives, Nate and Gracelyn have a chance to begin anew, holding on to what seems to be the hand fortuity has dealt them, by making them neighbors for the summer.
I love everything about Gracelyn. Her quirkiness, her strength, her determination to do things on her own, keeping her man-ban in effect, despite her undeniable attraction to a certain professor. She doesn’t act like she has all the answers, when it comes to taking care of her nephew, but she learns as she goes and even though she may not get it right every time, she learns and finds her way.
Nate is an incredible hero – as a single father, a professor, a human being. He understands how precious life is and has taught his daughter to appreciate the little things. The loving and close relationship that he and Morgan share is such a gift and he doesn’t take it for granted.
People become family in a multitude of different ways and no dynamic is better than the other, and the fact that Nate and his daughter and Gracelyn and her nephew figure out how to mesh together in a supportive, entertaining, and necessary way makes the struggles easier to handle.
Jewel E. Ann is an incredible writer – one whose lessons resonate with her readers and illustrate the human condition in all its wonder. And the fact that Ann can create such complex characters and multifaceted story lines in a variety of different tropes solidifies her as a smart romance storyteller.

“Happiness comes in small packages. It’s not so much a state of mind, but a moment.”
Jewel E. Ann’s pen is pure magic!!!!
And i believe that the above phrase saying it all!!!!
There isn’t a book of this woman that it didn’t touch my soul in a deeper level… and this story was one that i really needed.
And even though that you don’t know it, YOU need it too!!!!
Yep, this book is a standalone, but i will shout out loud that you SHOULD read the previous duet as well!!! Because then you will understand what kind of redemption was this certain book!!!
HOPE YOU’RE FINDING MAGIC…
Honestly, i don’t know from where to start.
Nathaniel Hunt had played a big part in the first two books and in a way, it was the one that had lost too much…
Nowadays, time had passed and for the last eight years he is living like a nomad around the world with his precious daughter, Morgan, who is ten years old now.
Their last stop before return back home is the one that will change their lives forever….
“It’s been a long time since I had any sort of desire to figure out a woman.”
“This girl.
She’s life.
She pumped my heart when I didn’t think it could keep beating. She filled my lungs when I thought I’d taken my last breath. She crawled up my face and showed me I still had a smile.” {Nate for Morgan}
Gracelyn are 41 years old, unmarried and she is on man ban. In a way, the past is always getting in her way, but she is not worrying too much about that!!!
At the present, Gracelyn is becoming a mother figure for a ten year old after a tragic accident took his parents away…
Gracelyn is feel lost and she is trying very hard to navigate her life as a single parent.
And then a sexy anatomy professor and his lovely daughter are entering into their lives and everything is turning upside down.
“If I lick his hand, will it be weird? Too desperate? Too personal for a first encounter? Too immature for a forty-one?”
I loved this book so much. From the very first moment, i was hooked by the story and the heroes…
Honestly, i really didn’t know that Nathaniel could be that way…
I loved his playful side and I loved how wonderful father he was….
Gracelyn was soooo adorable!!!! She was like a little child trapped in a grown up body and i loved her about that!!!
I loved her crazy antics and her awkward moments.
These two were so perfect for each other. And I love Jewel for giving Nathaniel something good finally!!!
“Ten years of embracing celibacy. Ten years of settling into a new normal. Ten years and you had to derail me at the finish line.”
“I’m not supposed to feel Nathaniel Hunt in my chest.
He’s not supposed to take root in my mind.
His touch isn’t allowed to linger on my skin.
Yet, here he is… making a mark that I fear will be difficult, if not impossible, to erase.”
“I don’t have the emotional capacity to fall in love with you… And I just don’t want to. Love hurts too much.”
“Then don’t.”
As for the kids, what can i say???
I loved them both endlessly.
Gabe’s life had changed so much the last months, but he was so lucky that he had someone like Gracelyn by his side…
As for Morgan??? Gawd, i have to dedicate a whole review to this girl!!!
She was the most adorable girl in the world, a grown up girl trapped in a little girl’s body!!! Bahahaha…
Her comments, her observations, her whitty personality made me fall in love with her…
Her relationship with her father was one of the kind!!!!
“She said… and I quote, ‘What does a penis taste like?'”
“Oh god…. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe she…
I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve taught her… encouraged her to be curious, to always ask lots of questions. I’ve never sheltered her from the truth.”
“Good job, Dad of the Year. Now, bend down, lick your dick, and go tell your daughter how it tastes.”
(Bahaha… I laughed so much in here!!!)
Before I close my review, i want to mention another one character that has stolen my heart and this is Mr. Hans.
God, this man was hilarious!!! I’ll never forget him!!!
This book made me feel everything in the maximum…
It was emotional, sweet, funny and i will hold it like a treasure in my heart beside the first two books!!!
Believe me when I’m saying that this series will worth your time!!!!
Destination unknown.
Fortuity…
I take a minute to remind myself she is my here and now. An experience. A beautiful memory in the making. She’s not Daisy or Jenna. I will leave. She will stay. And that’s okay.
***I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review. Thank you!***
I finished reading Fortuity in the early hours of this morning. This book was unputdownable! I had been told how amazing this story is and the humour was also mentioned. What I wasn’t told was that I would wake up this morning unable to open my eyes due to all the crying that I had done. I little warning that I would need tissues would have been helpful!! The emotions that this story brought out in me were very powerful indeed and I felt them until the very last word. This story is EPIC!
If you have read Transcend and Epoch you will have already met Nate. Fortuity is his story and can be read as a standalone. If you have yet to read the duet, I recommend that you do as they are epic reads too!
I adore Nate and Gracelyn. There cannot be that many people who are more suited to each other than this couple. Their personalities complement each other perfectly. Their interactions which often included witty banter and one liners had me smiling and laughing throughout. The connection between them is undeniable and their chemistry sizzling hot! The saying ‘right person, wrong time’ could have been created with this couple in mind. They meet at a time when huge changes are happening in both of their lives which stops them from following their hearts and moving forward together. I understood the reasons why they stopped pursuing the feelings they had for each other and I adored and respected them more because of this. This didn’t make it any easier on me though, hence the heart-breaking sobs during the second half of the book that had me stepping away from the story to catch my breath and to try to recover control of my emotions.
There is nothing relating to this story that hasn’t been written perfectly. The title of the book certainly needs a mention. All the characters especially Gabe, Morgan and Mr Hans added to this story superbly. I loved how the author would have me laughing and crying whilst reading the same paragraph at times. I loved how I connected with the characters myself, which most certainly enhanced my reading experience. I loved that this story brought out all the feels. To put it simply I absolutely loved everything about this outstanding story!
Fortuity is a story of fate, love and growth. A story that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to you all. This is not only going on my favourites list for 2020, but of all time. ,
6 stripping stars for three elephants and two cherries
Stop what you’re doing!!!
My next HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, MUST READ BOOK that y’all have to GRAB!!
“I read a story about love. The character in the book said you can’t buy a happily ever after … you can’t buy love. But I could. ”
I can buy it for 3.99$ and die a happy gal, cause nobody…and I mean NOBODY sates my heart as Jewel does with her unique writing and unconventional stories. Setting the bar higher with every book, this prolific writer is her own best competitor. master crafter of nuanced romances with heart touching sentiments, I’m thrilled to experience her books everytime.
Carving out her peculiar characters with cheerful abandon, she likes to have fun with them, putting them in hilarious situations and watching them stumble & fumble through the book.
“Ten years of embracing celibacy. Ten years of settling into a new normal. Ten years and you had to derail me at the finish line.”
Fortuity is a MUCH AWAITED, funny and touching story of finding Love and happiness in unexpected places. Love comes visiting second or third time around for both Nate & Gracelyn. Single parents struggles and forged family onuses throwing hurdles and shifting priorities for them. Interspersed with cute girly times, perplexed overprotective Daddy- Daughter times and stolen kisses times, the exasperation Nate feels with her smart mouth daughter sets stage for some of the funniest scenes I’ve ever read!!!
My hands will release her … set her free. But my heart can’t let go, which means she will rip it from my chest and carry it with her forever.
A quirky heroine in charge of a sulking, sad boy + a stoic professor accompanied by a sassy, too smart for her own good daughter, and you have the makings of a Perfect Romantic Comedy.
But then how did the tears drip in a stream from my eyes?
That’s the magnificence of picking A book or every book by Jewel. what you get is a hefty dosage of ALL the FEELS in CAPS. From hilarity to melancholy and all the emotions in between.
“We can’t turn off the sun, run from the wind, or push back the tide. Some forces are just too strong. Love isn’t an emotion. It’s a force.”
There’s MY man Prof Nathaniel Hunt whom we met in Transcend & Epoch. He’s the man standing still in a bubble of grief, while the world moves around him. This book gives HIM a chance at finding happiness.
“He’s a Real Boyfriend. A boyfriend who loves you beyond reason, even when he’s not sure you love him the same way.”
His new neighbor is Gracelyn Glock with her new ward Gabe, trying to adjust her life around her nephew, and struggling noticeably.
I found her frothy personality particularly adorable. Trying to step up to the plate she’s been forced to stand on, gives her character grace and compassion.
Their meet is the simplest and yet the most complicated way
Gabe(10) finds his opposite nemesis in Chatterbox Morgan( 10 going on 30). She sees ALL, tells ALL, Talks ALL…and then some. Wise and smart way beyond her years, she’s my most fave character in the book.
“Practice?”
“Yes. If I get a boyfriend in school, I don’t want him to think I don’t know what I’m doing.” End. Me. Now.
The story is trademark Jewel. I laughed till tears tumbled down my eyes, red faced and breathless with a severe case of giggles…..and the next line scalding them with heartbreak and angst.
Deftly conveying intended emotions in precise words, Jewel is world apart from her peers in meticulous narration and skillful dialogues. Exploring every relationship deeply, every character gets their fair share of spotlight. I loved this well endowed story with ALL MY HEART and I’m guaranteeing that you will too it’s the simplest of story that will twist your heart like no other!
“So…..it’s as simple as Fortuity”
My heart has grown bigger because of you, jewel and “If you’re ever in jersey……..” I’ll fill it to the brim with All My Love for YOU
6 strippin stars for The Three Elephants and the Two Cherries
This was a highly anticipated read for me and it completely over-delivered in every way. Firstly, I mean anything Jewel writes is amazing and she always manages to give me more than I was expecting. Secondly, if you have read the Transcend duet then this story is like getting a year’s worth of gifts in one hit. Three words – Professor Nathaniel Hunt. Oh yes, we delve deep into his life post Swayze & Griffin and IT WAS WONDERFUL!!
Okay, now that I have that gushiness out of my head, let’s talk about this fabulous story.
Nate Hunt was tragically widowed when his beautiful wife died giving birth to their daughter. After struggling with his loss and being a single dad, he decided to fulfil a promise they made to each other and took their daughter, Morgan, on a trip that took them all over the world. They left when she was two years old and have just returned, eight years later. They have rented a house at the beach in San Diego for summer, before they move back to their hometown so Morgan can begin public schooling.
Gracelyn has become the sole caregiver/guardian of her nephew Gabe after her brother and sister-in-law lost their lives in an accident. She has no idea what she is doing but she knows that from now on she needs to be 100% focused on loving and caring for Gabe. She sells up his family home and rents space at a house at the beach for summer so they can enjoy some carefree time together and Gracelyn hopes it will help Gabe work through his grief. Then Gracelyn meets her neighbour…
‘Neighbor Jamie’s wavy, dark ginger-blond hair – that’s the color of sand at sunset – ruffles in the wind, and his bronzed skin nearly blinds me because… He’s. Not. Wearing. A. Shirt. Full lips pull into a tiny welcome. ‘Hello, Sassenach…’ he whispers. Okay. Not really, but I’d love to hear him say it. ‘Hi, I’m Nathaniel Hunt, Morgan’s dad.’
Morgan is beside herself to see people moving in next door and she sets out to become friends with them. Morgan completely stole my heart. She is only 10 years old but she has travelled the world which in turn has educated her in the best way possible. She is very intelligent, inquisitive and loves to talk. Gabe is 10 too but more interested in devices and TV – two things Morgan has little experience of. Not being around other kids much of her life means she has very open and honest adult discussions with her dad, they have an incredible relationship. I guess you could say that Morgan is a wise old soul for her age.
Both Gracelyn and Nate have their own reasons for still being single in their 40’s and their past relationships have definitely had a huge impact on who they are today. It’s like they had to go through what they individually did to get to where they are now. Where they are now is a ridiculously mad attraction to each other.
‘God… he’s so sexy. Not Jamie sexy. Nathaniel Hunt brings his own brand of sexy, and I’m completely bewitched.’
A summer romance between them emerges that involves stolen kisses, super hot quickies and endless moments of fun and laughter. Plus a little bit of Jamie Fraser… This will be a summer neither of them will ever forget. It is the sad goodbye that they don’t want to think about. It is fortuity that brought these two families together and promises that will eventually pull them apart.
‘I’m not supposed to feel Nathaniel Hunt in my chest. He’s not supposed to take root in my mind. His touch isn’t allowed to linger on my skin. Yet, here he is… making a mark that I fear will be difficult, if not impossible, to erase.’
I have so much mad love not just for this story but the books that came before this. I highly recommend you read Transcend and Epoch as it will only give you even more appreciation of Nate and Morgan. I must make special mention of Mr Hans, their holiday home landlord, he is a secondary character but he added so much to their summer holiday. I love how Jewel brought Morgan’s personality to life, I love how no topic was out of bounds and her open honesty with everyone. This story was so heart warming and such a fantastic mood lifter. Stories like this are why I love to read.
‘Maybe not everything in life dies with a final breath. Maybe some things just… end. Maybe it’s not forever. Maybe it’s for now.’
Fortuity
1) The state or quality of being fortuitous; fortuitous character
2) An accidental occurrence
3) An instance of great luck or good fortune
I never anticipated that this story would see the light of day. I was giddy when Jewel announced that Fortuity was Transcend #3. Nathan Hunt first appeared in Transcend and Epoch, which were my favorite books of 2018. While Fortuity may be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read Transcend and Epoch first. Reading Fortuity first would be like getting the cherry without the cheesecake in my opinion.
Surprisingly, I found Fortuity to be full of fun moments that had me laughing quite often. For some reason I expected somber and serious, and instead received the gift of memorable characters like Morgan the incredibly intellegent ten-year-old going on thirty, who had me in stitches with her gift to gab.
“We can’t turn off the sun, run from the wind, or push back the tide. Some
forces are just too strong.
Love isn’t an emotion. It’s a force.”
Gracelyn and Nate were just meant to be no matter how long it took to get there. Fortuity will bring tears to your eyes, put a smile on your face, and make you believe that everyone deserves love.
I enjoyed this book so much! I couldn’t put this book down. I loved all the characters in this one! From the main characters, the kids, their families, to Mr. Hans. I really loved Gracelyn. She’s such a quirky character that made me laugh quite often. That’s one of the things I loved most about this book is the humor. I can’t tell you how many times I found myself smiling or chuckling while reading this book. This book also packed the heart and feels. There were parts of this book that brought tears to me eyes. It’s also full of emotion. One of my favorite characters is Morgan, Nate’s daughter. She’s so full of life and brings so much light that both Gracelyn and Gabe need. How could I not like Nate when Gracelyn compares him to Jamie from Outlander. One word YUM! I would highly recommend this one. If you want a book that will hit every emotion, but is also a make you feel good story look no further!
•℘•*´`*• 5 STAR REVIEW–TOP READ LIST •*´`*•℘•
One of my most highly anticipated reads of the year was everything I hoped for and so much more! I like to think of Fortuity as the icing on the cake, and by cake I mean the previous books in the Transcend Duet. This story was amazing, the writing phenomenal and filled with lovable and quirky characters, both young and old, that we’ve come to expect from Ms. Ann.
Fortuity features two middle aged characters that’ve been around the block a few times and are semi-content with their lives. Until they meet in what seems to be a fortuitous coincidence, both in the right place and at the right time. But Fate seems to be a fickle mistress, seemingly lying in wait to snatch the rug out from under their feet. This story had me crying one moment and laughing like a mad woman the next. This one is going on my #TopRead2020 list; you don’t want to miss it!
“We can’t turn off the sun, run from the wind, or push back the tide. Some forces are just too strong. Love isn’t an emotion. It’s a force.”
Gracelyn Glock’s world was turned upside down after finding out she’d been named legal guardian of her ten year old nephew, Gabe, after her brother and sister-in-law died in an accident. Wanting Gabe to stay close to his friends and attend the same school Gracelyn moved to California and sold the large family home, renting a place for the summer before looking for a more permanent place to live.
“Life dies in a blink, but death…it lives for eternity.”
Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Hunt and his ten year old daughter Morgan recently returned to the States after being away for eight years. After Nate’s wife died at childbirth, he fulfill’s a promise they’d made to travel around the world, so Morgan could experience different cultures. Nate decided to rent a place by the beach for three months before they settled down in his hometown, Madison, Wisconsin, and Morgan could attend a regular school for the first time.
“Timing in life is everything.”
After bumping into each other they discover they’re neighbors, much to Morgan’s delight! She’s anxious to meet and spend time with someone her own age and soon she and Gabe start hanging out together. That leaves Nate and Gracelyn no other choice, they begin spending time getting to know each other, too.
“Maybe not everything in life dies with a final breath. Maybe some things just…end. Maybe it’s not forever. Maybe it’s for now.”
They discover they haven’t been in a relationship in a number of years, due to very unfortunate circumstances, and aren’t looking for one now. It’s been ten years for Nate, and Gracelyn’s three previous serious relationships left her convinced she was destined to be alone. They share one very particular thing in common, they both loved someone that died and left an indelible stain on their souls.
“Our capacity to love grows with time. It grows with every new person who touches our lives. So I love you more because my heart is bigger.”
Nate and Gracelyn agree to make the most of the time they have together; Nate’s plans are solid, they’re moving to Wisconsin at the end of the summer, it’s a promise he made to Morgan. Gracelyn is well aware, knowing there’s heartache in store for her, but willing to take a risk anyway.
“I feel the impossibility of it all. Sometimes, you just want the impossible.”
If you have never read a Jewel E. Ann book I just can’t imagine a life without her books. They bring hope, joy, devastation and eventually peace and love. Yep that a Jewel E. Ann book all wrapped up in one cover. I dont know how she does it but she makes me fall for everyone of her characters instantly. They are your best friend, your neighbor or that guy you knew you love the first moment you meet. Fortuity is all of that rolled up in one. Fortuity is book 3 in the Transcend Series i believe it can be read as a standalone but why would you want to deprave yourself of such great books and Nathaniel’s back story.
The title really suits Nate and Gracelyn’s love story. I loved every single thing about Fortuity! Jewel E Ann has written a book that is exactly what I needed right now. I fell in love with this story from the get go, that very first page pulled me in, that last page left me happy and completely satisfied.
This was such a fun, laugh out loud, light hearted with all the feels thrown into it kind of book. Definitely a must read during these trying times!
Fortuity is a gorgeous read that sends the message that timing is everything. This is a story about two people who have lost so much and are afraid to open themselves up in fear of losing again. This is also a story of overcoming fears and diving in with no regrets. I loved this book. I was a little nervous going into it because I haven’t read the Transcend duet, but I didn’t need to worry because this book CAN stand alone. I will however be reading that duet because I own both books and am obsessed with the way she writes these interesting and exceptionally romantic reads.
Fortuity has everything. I wanted in a book at this moment. A swoon worthy romance (even though Nate and Gracelyn took their sweet time and frustrated the heck out of me at some points), a fun beach setting, humor to set off the emotional aspects of the story, and a neighbors to lovers trope. This book also sends a message to the readers; never give up. I learned something, I felt everything, and I smiled from ear to ear. I love a book can deeply affect the readers and this one (like many of her novels), does just that. It’s truly a wonderful read and I am so grateful for reading a copy because her books are life changers.
Would I recommend this one? Absolutely. I think readers can certainly read this as a standalone but I’m kicking myself for not reading the Transcend duet first. There may be very mild spoilers in this one for those two, but not enough to take away your enjoyment of Nate and Gracelyn’s love story. And I’m not kicking myself BECAUSE of the mild spoilers, only because I have waited far to long to read them and I know they are going to be just as gorgeous as this one was.
