I had no idea what Fortiity was going to be about .
And I couldn’t even fatham since it was the third book in this series…I didn’t know how I would feel about it.
But I mean come on this is Jewel E Ann we’re talking about!! Every FREAKING book is five shining stars that deserve sooo many more stars!!
I laughed and I cried and I fanned myself because damn this book was HAWT as well.
Ohhh and I decided to go ahead read the synopsis after I was partially through the book.. I normally will never do that until the end of the book but I was dying to know a little bit more about what I was reading. Just because I had read the other two books and I did see In the synopsis it says Fortuity is going to be a standalone, my jaw dropped…but OMG y’all, please go read Transcend and EPOCH because you have to have those books in your life first. They are AMAZING and this third book is amazing as well. So there you go I said it.Go read all three!!! LOL
So AMAZING I’m TELLING YA!!!
First things first, Fortuity is the third book in the Transcend series. It’s also the first book in that series that I’ve read or listened to, but if I was missing anything from the earlier books, I didn’t notice it. That said, I’m thinking I need to go back and check those other two out because Jewel E Ann weaves a wonderful story.
I absolutely love that Gracelyn and Nathaniel are closer to my own age, which made them much more relatable than the usual twenty-somethings I find in romance. I also like the pacing of the romance – this is a lengthy book by today’s rush, rush, rush standards, but there are no lags in the story. Things move along at a good pace that kept me interested in the characters and their lives.
So, we have a solid combination of great characters and a story that feels real. Some things may not be the norm for the time, but they work for this book. It kind of feels like this is exactly where these people are supposed to be at this particular time in their lives. But, I digress. The point I was aiming for is that the stand-out element of this book is the writing and flow, at least for me. It’s crazy emotional with the loss these characters have suffered and their grief is almost palpable. Then the author takes us from tears to laughing out loud no matter who might be around, and she does it seamlessly. Even the things I saw coming had an emotional effect of one kind or other – case in point: the haircut scene. I saw something of the sort coming a mile away, and Ann managed to have me laughing and feeling so bad for Gracelyn at the same time.
After suffering my own loss a few months ago, the healing these characters go through as well as the silly laugh-out-loud moments were just what I needed. And to further enhance an already solid story, Tia Rider breathes life into the characters. Now, I’d normally prefer dual narration for romance, especially when chapters alternate between the characters like this one, but Rider does a good job with Nathaniel. It’s not quite as manly as I’d hope for, but it works well, and I didn’t feel the loss enough to lessen my enjoyment of the story.
All in all, Fortuity is a lot of emotion, be it gut-wrenching or full-out laughing or somewhere in between, and it’s a wonderfully written story that you don’t want to miss.
This story was the perfect mix of angst, humor and sexy chemistry.
The story picks up with Nate and Morgan’s life years after Epoch ends.
Morgan’s character made this story for me. She is a brilliant 10 year old who is too smart for her own good. She is so blunt and open and I laughed so much at the things coming out of her mouth.
Add Gracelyn, her 10 year old nephew who she is trying to figure out how to parent and an old man who is their landlord and it is a circus. It’s a heartwarming tale of unconventional families. It is a classic Jewel E Ann story.
Jewel released Transcend back in March 2018, and then Epoch soon followed in April 2018. The story was unconventional, highly rated, and controversial. Fans wanted Nathanial Hunt to have his account, and Jewel took that suggestion and ran with it and gave us all Fortuity. While Fortuity is a stand-alone story, why would you do that when the series is phenomenal? Grocery store Guy is a must to experienced, and Swayze must have her say!
Fortuity is a romantic-comedy Jewel style; if you don’t know what that means, it’s quirky, realistic, and hilarious.
Gracelyn Glock, was living the dream every forty-something-year-old perimenopausal woman could want, no man, no children, no responsibilities, and no shaving above the knee. However, that was all before tragedy struck, and she inherited her ten-year-old nephew Gabriel, an overpriced house in San Diego, and a land rover. She took the kid and the SUV, sold the rest, and rented a beach house until she could figure it all out.
Professor Nathanial Hunt (aka Jamie Frazer) and his precocious ten-year-old daughter, Morgan, have traveled the globe for eight years. Upon their return to North America, they stopped off in San Diego for the summer before heading home to Wisconsin. Professor Hunt has been a non-sexual single dad for the last decade until he finds himself in an unusual position watching his neighbor do a strip show every night when she comes home from work. The strip shows sparks a million inappropriate thoughts, stolen kisses, and the ban on men, abandoned.
Jewel E. Ann, guaranteed to blow your mind and your emotions, Fortuity is a must-read for 2020, highly recommended!
This is a standalone love story … BUT … if you’ve read Jewel’s Transcend duet, you will remember Nathaniel. I suggest you read the other two books first, because Nate played a HUGE part in that story.
And now here he is again … to maybe finally find his happily ever after?
He’s been widowed for ten years now – his wife died giving birth to their daughter Morgan.
He wasn’t planning on ever falling in love again and he’s leaving in three months to go back home to Wisconsin … but there’s this woman next door …
Gracelyn is 41 years old. She just inherited her ten year old nephew Gabe – after her brother and sister-in-law passed away.
She’s retired from men and she never planned on having kids after one too many failed attempts at a HEA! And now she has a grumpy pre-teen and a new, very interesting and very hot, neighbor to deal with.
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN …
What will happen with Gracelyn & Nathaniel?
Will there be a HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
ADORABLE!
This is not the extremely heartbreaking and slightly supernatural story you might be expecting after reading the other two Transcend books. But it’s just as beautiful. Only more of an adorable, later-in-life romantic comedy/dramedy. About two people who long ago gave up believing in happily ever afters.
But of course we also have ALL THE FEELS!
Nate and Morgan are not staying in California – and Grace and Gabe are not leaving! How can we get our happily ever after?! GRR!
I just loved reading this!
Gracelyn and Nate are just perfect for each other. And the kids! They’re just hilarious – especially Morgan – ten going on a 50 year old Professor. LOL!
I loved the whole San Diego beach house vibe too – and the adorable old landlord.
I just loved it all. Nothing more to say. I don’t want to spoil anything.
Beautiful romance!
Wouldn’t mind seeing this on Netflix one day soon!
FORTUITY was such a beautiful & adorable & funny love story! All the feels too!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Nate – this one is MINE! Hashtag Apple Porn!
Fortuity (Transcend #3) is Nate’s happily ever after, and I loved it. It’s a beautiful story of love, loss and friendship that tugs on the heartstrings one minute only to have you laughing out loud the next. I highly recommend this wonderful series!
Books 1 & 2 (Transcend and Epoch) are a duet follow on whereas book 3 is set ten years later and can be read as a standalone.
***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****
I listened to two Jewel E. Ann books back-to-back. It isn’t good for the heart to be honest. Mine came out feeling raw. Ann goes straight for the heart and just bashes it around in there. So, I don’t recommend a binge with her name as the author unless you like this aching feeling. They do actually have some real laugh out loud moments too. Onto Gracelyn and Nathaniel, I didn’t read book 1 and 2 in this series. I know I’m missing some key things but I feel like I still got this story easily. I definitely want to go back to the first two books and listen to them now.
The narrator, Tia Rider, did a good job narrating the entire book herself. This book is also a dual POV story with male and female narratives. I do wish there was a male narrator but I can’t take points away when I went in knowing it was narrating only by a female. Like I said, she did do a great job. She tried giving each character their own voice. It didn’t always work the best in my opinion but it wasn’t bad or it didn’t turn me off from the story.
It’s been a while since I’ve read such a delightful and all consuming single dad romantic comedy with plot overflowing with heart warming and heart squeezing moments. This story was about how life challenges us every day and overcoming the past or heartbreak. How sometimes you need to let go of the past and keep living even if you think it’s impossible to make that choice.
All of this was perfectly blended with funny but still realistic situations. It was one of those unputdownable, must read and page turner books and I was utterly hooked by its plot.
I’ve had a big book crush with the hero Nathaniel. He was the most caring, loving and charming man. My heart was melting over him but at the same time I was aching for his lost.
His daughter was my second fave heroine in this story. She was so smart talkative 10 years old girl with no head to mouth filter.
Gracelyn was 40 years old single woman. Her heart and soul was broken at her twenties and she closed her heart to love for good. Tragic circumstances suddenly changed her life when she has to take a custody over her nephew.
Was it fate or fortuity that on one summer Nathaniel and Gracelyn path crossed and turned their worlds up side down?
My heart made a several flips over during the reading. I was crying, laughing and laughing some more through my tears because Nate and Gracelyn took me on the one helluva emotional path with their story. Even though they’ve been through a lot in their lives, they’ve found perfect tune with each other. Their undeniable and scorching chemistry was out of the charts and made my pulse quicken.
From the first Jewel E Ann book I’ve read, she easily became one of my favorite authors. I’ve fallen in love with her written words and with my heart full of emotions I can quote her own words from this book which actually perfectly describe Fortuity
“….. . . …. . , . ..”
Self-proclaimed “Hot Mess Queen,” Gracelyn has unexpectedly become responsible for raising her ten-year-old nephew after his parents pass away. She’s sworn off men and dedicated to being focus on Gabe when she meets her new neighbors. Hot single dad Nate and ten-year-old Morgan have traveled the world having a lifetime’s worth of experiences. They’ve returned to the States to settle down and Morgan to attend public school. What happens when two single parents in their forties find love at the most unexpected and inconvenient time?
I didn’t know much about this book before listening, and Jewel E. Ann is a new author for me. Side note, Fortuity can be enjoyed as a standalone, but the previous books in the series reveal Nate’s backstory. Fortuity was an amazing listen! I found myself smiling and laughing as I listened to Gracelyn and Nate navigate a series of awkward situations and conversations as they fought their growing feelings. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments in this book. There are also emotional and sometimes heartwrenching moments too. Gracelyn and Nate are kindred spirits. They are both haunted by past loves. Both are unselfishly willing to put their own needs aside to do what’s best for others. Needless to say, they have a lot to work through on their difficult journey to their happily ever after.
Gracelyn and Nate’s beautiful story involves the making of a blended family. The kids, Gabe and particularly Morgan, often steal the show. Morgan is inquisitive and way too intelligent for her good. Get ready to laugh at the things that come out of both of their mouths! The quirky and endearing Mr. Hans rounds out this slightly unconventional family. He serves as the wise sage that helps Gracelyn and Nate along in their journey.
I enjoyed Tia Rider’s narration. She brought the humor and emotion of Fortuity to life. As the sole narrator for a book with quite a few characters, Rider did a good job making each character sound unique. Since this book has a dual POV, I would have preferred to have male and female narrators. That said, it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment.
Fortuity is full of heart, heat, and I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend listening to this book!
This was my first Jewel E. Ann, and won’t be my last. This is the third book in The Transcend Series. I believe it is a good thing to listen to this series in order, for a better understanding of the backstory, but you can listen to this story as a standalone. Gracelyn and Nathaniel’s story is brilliantly written, sweet, emotional, heartwarming, fun, and romantic, with a good balance between happiness and sadness. Some scenes are hilarious! I loved to follow them in the journey to love. Morgan and Gabe are amazing kids. The supporting characters are great and interesting. Tia Rider did a good job with the narration. I enjoyed it. This is a beautiful story. #ValentinePR

I’ve finished Transcend Trilogy in three days… so I can say that I was pretty invested in those people happy endings!
After finished EPOCH, I was emotionally tired, but I also needed Nate to have his own happily ever after!
Just him been happy with his lonely fate wasn’t enough, and this book gave it to me.
I really love the way Jewel tells a story.
I’ve laughed and cried with this book, and I’m in love with the journey that Nate and Grace lived until their right time to be together.
She had lost as much as him in life and love, and their understanding of each others pain and reasons were amazing!
I absolutely loved Morgan!
I’ve laughed so many times with all the banter between those characters, that I feel like they’ll live with me for a while.
I wish Nate hasn’t been lonely for so long… that he could’ve found love before, but I guess I would have missed the 10 years old smart pants that was Morgan.
Also the narration was really good, and Tia put all the emotions and tones on the right places, but I still would’ve preferred if there was a male narrator for Nate.
AUDIO REVIEW
Fortuity by Jewel E. Ann
Narrated by: Tia Becker
Overall: 4 stars
Narration: 3 stars
Story: 4 stars
Fortuity is a beautiful story about finding a second chance at love after terrible loss. Jewel E. Ann is such a powerful story teller and this book had me feeling all the emotions.
Nathaniel Hunt is a single dad, to Morgan. After the loss of his wife, Nate has spent the last 8 years travelling with her. She has seen a lot of the world through her travels and is smart and witty, and such a ray of sunshine. She is wise beyond her years, and I adored her personality.
After the death of her sister, and brother in law, Gracelyn now has the responsibility of raising her 10 year old nephew, Gabe. At 41 years old this is a big life change for her, and she is finding her footing slowly but surely.
The best part of this story were the children. They stole the show for me!
While I adored Gracelyn and Nate there were elements of their love story that felt forced and at times was missing the passion and chemistry I look for in a romance novel.
Tia Becker is a new to me narrator. She did a beautiful job however I struggle when a female lead is cast to read the male POV in 1st person and I felt it took away from the story.
I loved this beautiful story about fated love. I was completely captivated by Nate and Gracelyn’s breathtaking story right from the start. Gracelyn Glock is raising her nephew, Gabe, after a tragic accident that took her brother and his wife too soon. Gracelyn and Gabe are renting a house on a beach for the summer to getaway and find comfort. Nate has traveled the world with his young daughter, Morgan, for decade. They are back in the country and also renting a home on the beach next door, before heading home. Neither Nate or Gracelyn are looking for complications, let alone love. But as their kids get close, they soon feel a connection that is too strong to deny. Both Nate and Gracelyn find moments to be together but with observant, intelligent kids, there is always some very awkward and hilarious moments. Knowing they live in different states and time is short, they try to have a summer of fun, but soon their hearts become involved. What happens when Nate needs to fly home, and Gracelyn promised Gabe she wouldn’t move him from his family home? This story had the perfect balance of fun, sorrow, sizzle and heart. It felt so real and honest, that I was completely invested, and cared deeply for all four of them, and cheered for Nate and Gracelyn’s HEA.
I really enjoyed Tia Rider’s narration as she delivered all the emotion, wit, and steam perfectly. Her ability to bring these characters and story to life was amazing.
One of my favorite things about this story is that Nate and Gracelyn are in their fourties and this refreshing and beautiful story proves that you are never too old to find love and passion and all that goes with it. I loved every minute of this breathtaking journey of destiny and love.

Gracelyn Glock (aka Elvis) is on a self-imposed man-ban. After a tragic accident, she inherits her 10-year-old nephew Gabe and moves into a beach house rental in San Diego. Professor Nathaniel (Nate) Hunt is a widower and single dad of a 10-year-old girl named Morgan. After traveling around the world for 8 years they rent the house across from Gracelyn and Gabe. Friendships are formed and kisses are stolen. Will this summer love come to an end with their hearts in tact? Thank you, Valentine PR, for gifting me this book in exchange for an honest review.
I legit had to close my office door and cry at my desk after finishing this audiobook. Wow! The story Jewel E. Ann has written is absolutely breathtaking. Fortuity is a brilliant and epic love story for the ages. It’s witty, fun, light-hearted, real, and emotional. It has all the feels and will stay with you forever. The kids Gabe and Morgan are so amazing. Especially Morgan. She grew up traveling the world with her dad so she’s so much smarter and more cultured than kids her age. She’s a curious little chatterbox who’s wise beyond her years. It’s hilarious to watch her turn into a regular United States teen. One particular scene with Morgan and Gracelyn discussing some “birds and bees” will have you dying from laughter. Nate and Gracelyn couldn’t be more perfect for each other. They both put the kids first before their self and are completely understanding of the other one doing the same. They don’t just accept each other’s’ tragic past loves and heartaches, they embrace it as part of who they are. It’s part of why they love and respect each other so much. There’s no judgement or jealousy, just acceptance, respect, and understanding. Their love is ardently touching, beautiful, romantic, and all consuming. The story is so real and heart-warming. My heart is full to bursting right now. Jewel, thank you for writing such an epic love story. If you’re ever in New Orleans…
Tia Rider was perfectly cast for this role. Her pacing, vocal characterizations, and emotional tones were exemplary. She was great as Nate, Gabe, and other supporting characters, but I most loved her playing Gracelyn and Morgan. Gracelyn is such a quirky and adorable heroine. And Morgan is the best kind of smart, sassy and curious 10-year-old out there. Tia excelled in her role for all the characters, but these 2 were my absolute favorite. Tia is definitely going on my favorite narrators list. I strongly recommend the audiobook version of Fortuity because Tia’s narration really brought this story to life.
You need to buy this audiobook NOW! Trust me! Whatever you are doing right now is not nearly as important as listening to this audiobook.
5 all-the-feels, kiss-stealing, stripping outside, 3 elephants, and 2 cherries Stars!
This book has been on my TBR for a year and since I loved the first two in the series I was so excited for Nate’s HEA. This book is in line with the others in that it is so emotionally charged and filled with so much love. Nate and Gracelyn were brought together by fate. It is a tricky little thing, and this book proves that there is a grand plan for everyone. I loved this book and the narration was spot on. I wasn’t expecting both parts to be narrated by the same person but it completely worked for me.
Fortuity: A Standalone Contemporary Romance
The Transcend Series
By: Jewel E. Ann
Narrated by: Tia Rider
There is something to be said about going into a book blind. I had no idea what this story was about when I started it, but Jewel E. Ann was enough for me to want to hear it! And boy, is it ever good! The third book in the Transcend series, we have Nate and Gracelyn’s story. Both single parents, both lonely, both with baggage. But a connection between these two is strong. Will they find the strength to overcome their obstacles? I was completely captivated by this story. From the first chapter, I was invested in both characters. I love Gracelyn, and her nickname of Elvis! Jewel always finds a way to infuse humor into her stories and this just made me smile every time I heard it. She is Gabe’s aunt and legal guardian after the death of her brother and his wife. Not fully used to the idea yet, she has moved to San Diego to prevent any further disruption to Gabe’s life. There she meets Nate and his daughter, Morgan. Nate is a great dad, a little overprotective, but truly loves his daughter. These two have been nomads for the past 8 years, with Nate giving the very adult, very exposed yet sheltered Morgan the chance to experience the world. And from there our broken couple learns to heal. These two are magic together. The push pull is there, the passion, the friendship, it’s all evident. Their journey isn’t easy, but so worth the trip. Add in the kids, with their humor and own issues and Jewel has a realistic view of life. It’s a beautiful story and I just couldn’t stop listening! (And I didn’t listen to the first 2, so this definitely stands alone!)
Tia Rider is the narrator, is new to me and I have a new person to watch for. She is fabulous. Each character so easily distinguishable, she flows between male and female, parent and child with ease. The voices she created fit the people so well, it’s exactly how I imagine them sounding and her inflections and nuances convey all the feels. It was a perfect match for her to narrate this book!

I love this book. The humor in this book was absolutely amazing. Jewel has a way with words!
A beautiful love story that tackles grief and moving forward into new relationships. “Our capacity to love grows with time. It grows with every new person who touches our lives. So I love you more because my heart is bigger.”
I laughed so much I had tears rolling down my face. I cried. I fell in love with the characters. I fell in love with their story.
It’s a beautiful day at the beach, a beautiful day for a neighbor, Gracelyn would you be my neighbor for the summer?
Gracelyn took on a new role in her life on one of the saddest days of her life. Raising ten year olds should come with a how to manual. Being a parent should also come with a how to manual. Better yet, living life should come with a how to manual. Everything in life would be so much easier if we came into this world prepared with a manual.
Single dad meets single lady both with ten year old in tow.
Gracelyn never imagined to find friendship from a ten year old girl and a seventy year old man, yet she did. Nathaniel never expected to find friendship with a beautiful neighbor, but he did.
Overall:
Come join me on this journey with Nathaniel and Gracelyn where they spend the summer on the beach. It’s a journey only Jewel herself could conjure. It’s full of laughter, sexy time, parent time, and good old fashion time.
It’s so good to have Nathaniel back on my reading que. I missed him.
Jewel’s quirkiness is back in the form of Gracelyn tripping over her tongue. The words that spew out of her mouth brought laughter to the story. Most of her stories bring a smile to my face. Finding characters that are happy seems to be a rarity when I usually read dark taboo romances. This one is on the opposing spectrum which is what I’m in the mood for. Laughter is the best medicine and since it can’t be prescribed I get it in the form of reading Jewel’s characters misbehave in the most wonderful way.
I want Jewel as a mother because she tackles all the embarrassing moments in life with humor. I love it.
I like this version of Nate. He’s calm, happy, and very ready for date night.
While Fortuity is part of the Transcend series it’s really not a continuation of that series. Both books share Nathaniel’s character, but this is an extension of his character ten years later. His character is very different in Fortuity. It’s as if he’s an entirely different person.
I have read 15 books by Jewel E. Ann and loved every one of them. This is one her fans have been waiting for and it did not disappoint.
