A Cinderella story with a hot boss so charming even a fairy godmother couldn’t do better.Everyone thinks Dax Marshall is a prince of a guy. And he’s definitely charming. But Jane has enough going on without adding a torrid fling with the boss to her life. Between her father’s illness, her wicked-ish stepmother, her little sister’s teenage drama, and the co-workers who depend on her—she can’t … on her—she can’t handle another mess.
No matter how tempting and gorgeous the mess may be. Or how messy he wants to get with her.
Dax has spent his life being very serious about only one thing: proving you can be successful while still having a helluva good time. But he’s just met the one woman who might break his I-can-charm-anyone streak. She’s actually taking him seriously…and she seriously thinks they have nothing in common and can’t be together.
Maybe he’s the one who needs a new view of happily ever after. It’s time to stop forking around.

I am loving this series by Erin, and I’m yearning for the cake pops and pies in a mason jar in the worst way! 5 shiny stars for this one!
We meet Dax, used to getting anything he desires, meets Jane and is instantly taken with her. He wants nothing more than to make her his, but can he convince her that he’s genuine in how he feels and is more than her boss? Read along and find out! You will enjoy this one, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
I loved Dax and Jane, they are so cute! Dax is part of the group of guys who purchased Hot Cakes. They were introduced in the first book in the Hot Cake series. Dax is the life of the party. Always trying to make everyone happy. He puts ping pong tables in break rooms, gummy bears on his desk to name a few things. Jane is always trying to keep things in control and can’t get enough of sugar and strawberries. But one thing that Jane doesn’t have control of, is her feelings for Dax. And since he is the boss, she won’t go there. Dax takes care of that though, because he is slowly realizing what Jane is beginning to mean to him. This book had me smiling and laughing out loud. It also has some major chemistry in it. These books could be read as stand alone’s. However, to really get a feel for each person in this book, reading them in order is beneficial. I am looking forward to the next book and which Fluke guy is going to fall next.
This was my first book by Erin Nicholas, and, full disclosure, this was the very first ARC I’ve received as a newly minted blogger, so I was super excited to sink my teeth into this one!
It didn’t disappoint. Dax and Jane are both such sweet, kind people it was impossible not to fall in love with them.
Dax spends most of his life playing and making sure the people around him aren’t taking life too seriously. Now the company he owns together with 4 of his best friends has branched out and bought a cake factory in the tiny town of Appleby, Iowa.
Jane is a small-town girl through and through. She has worked at the Hot Cakes factory since she was a teenager and knows the place inside and out. Her life, however, has not been as playful and easy as Dax’s. Her dad is in a nursing home at a very young age. Her younger sister lives with her dad’s current wife and daughter, and their lives are NOT a fairy tale. Jane is often called in to referee fights between the two teenaged girls, as well as keep the house clean and tidy since her step-mom can’t be bothered. In other words, Jane’s life is messy and there is NOT much time for play.
As different as their lives are, Dax and Jane do have a striking similarity – they both live their lives dedicated to making things easier and better for the people around them. Dax by bringing the fun, and Jane lightens the load on others by helping whenever she can: babysitting, dog-sitting, giving co-workers rides when their cars break down.
Dax falls for Jane almost immediately upon meeting her, but it takes her a little longer to recognize that they are kindred spirits. Jane eventually realizes that she needs a little fun in her life, while Dax realizes that he is more than capable of helping people in real, concrete ways in addition to just making them smile.
Forking Around is an adorably sweet book. I’ll be going back to read the first book in the series, and eagerly waiting for the next one to come out!
This series is shaping up to my favorite from Erin Nicholas. When I read Sugarcoated, I immediately fell in love with this small town and this amazing group of friends. This book has everything I needed to escape into a new place and laugh it up.
In the first book in this series, Dax seemed like nothing but a good time and Jane seemed like she was too serious for this relationship to work. He didn’t seem to have substance and she has too much on her plate for his frivolity. I couldn’t have been more wrong about the both of them. He’s the levity and she’s the grounding that they need. They are the perfect balance.
This series is definitely going to be my new obsession. I’m already counting down the days to next one.
If you are looking for a laugh out loud romantic comedy look no further than Forking Around which is book 2 in the Hot Cakes Series, this book is a great example of this genre and I’m sure like me you will be left smiling like a Cheshire Cat by the time you finish this entertaining witty read.
This is one of those books that has you from the first page, it has wonderful characters and a great storyline and I fell head over heels for Dax Marshall one of the new owners at Hot Cakes.
Jane works at the cake factory and the last thing she needs is the new boss sniffing around her, she has too much going on in her life and doesn’t have time for the sexy millionaire who is one of the new owners but the problem is Dax doesn’t give up easily when he has his heart set on something and he goes all out to prove he could be more than a boss if only Jane would give him the time of day….
This book ticked all my boxes, hot sexy hero and sassy witty heroine make for an entertaining read but it was Dax showing he cared in so many ways when it came to Jane and all the workers at Hot Cakes that really touched my heart. A funny witty read with plenty of witty banter and I can’t wait for the next book in this great series.
Jane and Dax delivered a fabulous, flirting tango. From their first encounter over cake pops, the sparks were flying. I love that Jane wouldn’t give her name to Dax right away. He is so used to getting what he wants so this was a great challenge for him. The fact that Dax is now one of the owners of Hot Cakes has Jane keeping him in the ‘boss’ zone but that doesn’t stop Dax. I was surprised by Dax and his huge heart. He truly wants people to be happy and if he encounters a situation where that isn’t happening, he will do whatever it takes to fix it. Jane carrying a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders with her dad in a nursing home, a step-mother that loves to create drama and a sister that gets caught in the fray. But she also helps her coworkers and friends when they need her, something that connects her to Dax. Dax is determined in his pursuit of Jane which delivered a fun and sexy road to romance for these two. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Forking Around was an engaging, charming, sexy, feel love good story from start to finish. I always know I’m going to get a fun, banter filled rom-com from Erin Nicholas!
I loved Jane and Dax. Their chemistry was undeniable and their relationship as it developed was a joy. As expected from Erin, Forking Around was well written with main characters as well as side characters that you cannot help but love and become invested in. This book was full of humour sigh inducing moments and this just enhanced my overall enjoyment of the book.
Funny, romantic, steamy, Forking Around is everything I love from Erin Nicholas. I read this book in one sitting and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
This series is just so much fun. I am in love with these Hot Cakes Boys! I smiled pretty much the whole way through this book which is appropriate, I think Dax would love hearing it. He is just such a great character, someone who seems silly and flippant and only out for a good time but really lives for making other people’s lives better in any way he can. He is exactly what the serious and overwhelmed Jane needs. I absolutely cannot wait for Grant and Josie.
**I was provided with a free advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review**
This book is everything I never knew I needed in a hero. Usually the heroes are staunch men that need loosening up. Not Dax, he needs someone to level him out.
Jane needed someone to make her have a little fun.
These two are great together!!
5 star review Forking Around (Hot Cakes #2) by Erin Nicholas
The second book in Ms. Nicholas latest series and it was just as enjoyable as the first one.
I fell hard and fast for Dax, there was just something about him that ticked all the boxes for me. He made me smile throughout the story and I couldn’t wait to see if he and Jane could get the happily every after that they both deserved.
The chemistry between Jane and Dax was intense and their relationship as it developed romantic. As I have come to expect from Ms. Nicholas, Forking Around was well written with characters that you cannot help but become invested in. This book was full of humour and this just added to my overall enjoyment of the book with many laugh out loud moments.
Forking Around ( I just love the titles in this series) is a great example of RomCom at it’s finest. Erin Nicholas has a way with words that quickly draws you in and keeps you captivated from the first to the last page.
It was not only the main characters that are entertaining but also the secondary ones and I am looking forward to reading more in this series which has quickly become a favourite.
Dax and Jane…Bean bags, gummy bears, strawberry pie and cake pops..
The next in the HOT CAKES series this is Dax’s story. The eccentric fun loving Dax, his love for Frank Sinatra, his roadster and fedora hat sticks out in a town like Appleby. Add in his unusual approach to work and his office life and he’s about to turn the town upside down along with Jane’s life.
When Jane is called into his office for a meeting after their initial encounter over cake pops, she’s a little unsure of what to expect, however, bean bag chairs and gummy bears certainly aren’t what she expected from a millionaire business man. When he informs her he wants to be shown the entire workings of the factory and she’s going to be his trainer, she’s a little shocked. Add in a ping pong table, and Uno games at lunch with the employees and Jane’s in for the time of her life.
You’ll fall in love with Dax and Jane, in fact everyone needs a Dax in their lives, that one person who can take a situation that isn’t the greatest and find the good. A person who can always bring laughter in your life. You’ll fall in love with this hunky gorgeous fun loving male and you’ll swoon at his attempts to make Jane’s life more enjoyable while falling in love.
A billionaire wants to impress poor little Cinderella. He lavishes gifts on her, takes her fancy places, gets miffed that she wants his heart, and then realizes that he needs her. That’s how the story goes, right? Not this one. Okay, we have a billionaire and a Cinderella with a difficult life, but most everything else gets turned upside down and inside out. I have read plenty of this author’s books, but I was still constantly surprised by what Dax did in each chapter. As in jaw-dropping surprises. There are a couple of gifts, but they are not what I expected. They go places that I have never read about in a romance. And the heart thing? I won’t give that away, but it is not the typical plot at all. The only thing that was what I expected was that Dax is hilarious. He and Jane have excellent banter, and I highlighted so much of it so I could go back and laugh some more. This is the best kind of example of what rom-coms can be. I highly recommend it!
Second book in the series. Mrs. Nicholas do not disappoint.
Storyline is awesome, characters are great.
This story is about Jane, who works at Hot Cakes, she has a younger sister, sick father and awful stepmother.
Dax is one of the owners of Hot Cakes, he is the one who has good time.
What would Jane and Dax have in common……they want to take care of people, they are close to them.
Nicholas is notorious for getting under the skin by hitting straight at the heart. Bring on the Kleenex, because there will be a few tears. Whether from laughter or emotional hiccups is something only the reader can decide. Forking Around is as powerful as it is flirty. Hidden within the tempting attraction and hilarious comebacks is a heartbreaker that means to leave it’s mark. Step inside of a fairytale that proves captivating does not always have to be beautiful, but memorable lasts forever.
This is a deliciously fun, sweet and super sexy story complete with amazing characters both main and supporting and lots of strawberry and other yummy goodness. There is emotion too, because what amazing love story doesn’t have that? But man oh man, Dax is just the swooniest!!! I don’t think Jane stood even the smallest chance of not falling for him. It would have been simply impossible since he is that irresistible! I really love Jane too! She is a giving, strong, sweet and lovable woman who’ll do anything for anyone. I love their chemistry and I absolutely adore them together!! This is such an amazing series! I can’t seem to get enough! And can’t wait for more!!
Forking Around was a fun and sweet read.
Jane is working at the Hot Cakes factory and is overwhelmed with everything she has to take care of in life, and in walks Dax…her fun-loving and impulsive new boss. Their chemistry was immediate from the start, but Jane does the sensible thing and adheres to the adage “don’t date your boss.”
Lucky for her, Dax’s lighthearted exterior houses a deeply caring and emotional man who is stubborn enough to break through Jane’s protective walls.
Forking Around was joyful and sweet. The romance was well written and kept you turning the pages (just one more chapter!) on through the night. Looking forward to more of those Fluke men!
Holy fork! Those two! You simply have to love Dax and Jane, how could you not?
Jane is the small town responsible girl, who takes care of everything and everyone, from her sick dad to her teenager halfsister to all of her coworkers. You probably don’t even need to ask her and she will already be thinking of how to help you. This girl definitely needs someone that can take care of her as she does with everyone. And that someone can only be Dax. Why Dax? Because his mission in life is to make everyone happier, even if just for a little bit. But can this become a forever kind of happier? Can strawberry pie and gummy bears be the answer? Throw into the bundle a toilet brush and some Frank Sinatra and I think we have the perfect recipe for an amazing story.
Dax will make you fall in love with him almost from day one, because his heart is bigger than anything he could ever buy with all of his millions, and he can buy a lot of things, trust me. So what are you still waiting for! Dive into your new favourite Cinderella’s story and get to meet Jane’s band.
But will someone give me Grant and Josie already?? I knew from page 1 of Zoe and Aiden that they would be an amazing couple and now that I’ve got a glimpse I CANNOT WAIT! Good thing their story is next cause they havebecome my most anticipated couple, and besting Ollie and Piper was very difficult, I can tell you. So let’s enjoy Dax and Jane story while we anxiously wait for Grant and Josie!
Wow, Ms. Nicholas hit another out of the park or should I say “whipped” up another winner! This is definitely a must read, so added to your summer reading list. This is wonderfully written story with well developed characters. It gives you all the feel goods and some real steamy scenes. This is fun, sweet story that you won’t want to miss. Loved how Dax set his mind to work at winning Jane’s attention and Jane not realizing what she had to offer. This made it real for me.
Frank Sinatra, fedoras, cake pops, strawberry sweets, ping pong and don’t forget gummy bears. Wow, wow, wow what a wonderfully sweet, sexy story!
Jane is tired and doesn’t want or need one more thing taking up time in her life. Dax is impulsive, rich and determined to make things better for those he cares about.
Dax is taken with Jane the minute he sees her eating cake pops at a company party. Jane is just as taken with Dax but she’s determined not to mess around with her boss. It is so much fun to watch Dax win Jane’s heart and just fair warning he’ll won your heart as well!
This was a wonderful book in the Hot Cakes series. This time we got to meet Dax and Jane. Dax is a fun, be happy kind of guy and Jane is a woman that has a lot of family obligations that fall on her shoulders and she just needs a break. Dax is a good looking guy and Jane is instantly attracted to him but he is her boss so she doesn’t really want to get involved with him. Everything Jane sees about Dax just shows her that he is a fun guy and she doesn’t think she has time for that in her life. But after having a few conversations with Dax she sees that what she thought was just a guy having fun was a guy that saw a bigger picture and wanted to do what he could to make life easier and yes more fun for people. Dax did see life as fun but he also saw that with all of his money he could make other people’s lives easier.
I really loved the interaction of Dax with Jane’s family. The first time Dax met Jane’s sister and step sister was wonderful and had Jane not fallen for him then then I would have, lol. Dax was perfect for Jane and they were great together.
I liked the few extra sneak peeks at Ollie, Piper and Grant. This is a great group of friends and I can’t wait for more books in this series.
