A Cinderella story with a hot boss so charming even a fairy godmother couldn’t do better.Everyone thinks Dax Marshall is a prince of a guy. And he’s definitely charming. But Jane has enough going on without adding a torrid fling with the boss to her life. Between her father’s illness, her wicked-ish stepmother, her little sister’s teenage drama, and the co-workers who depend on her—she can’t … on her—she can’t handle another mess.
No matter how tempting and gorgeous the mess may be. Or how messy he wants to get with her.
Dax has spent his life being very serious about only one thing: proving you can be successful while still having a helluva good time. But he’s just met the one woman who might break his I-can-charm-anyone streak. She’s actually taking him seriously…and she seriously thinks they have nothing in common and can’t be together.
Maybe he’s the one who needs a new view of happily ever after. It’s time to stop forking around.

This is the second book in the (Hot Cakes) series and I absolutely loved it. Forking Around had me laughing and ahhing. Erin Nicholas has captivated me. Grab this amazing book and follow along, you will be glad you did.
A fun rom com read that includes lip sync battles, copious amount of strawberry pie, gummy bears, ping pong, and naughty uses of whip cream.
Dax was the star of this story for me. He’s seriously just a big kid with a big heart who struggles with people taking him seriously. Jane is very much his opposite when it comes to work and play. But even though she has to deal with a lot of heavy stuff in her personal life it doesn’t stop her from being sassy and fun. Therefore, they make a great team together and balance each other out perfectly.
I just love Forking Around. I love every aspect. Erin Nicholas has written a phenomenal story. I felt a variety of emotions. I laughed and had heartswooning moments and yes a few tears. I really was hooked from page one. I really loved the flirtatious moments they had. Makes me look a cake pops differently.
In Forking around we get Dax and Jane’s story. Jane is my type of person. She is so down to earth. Can I just say I love Strawberries. Dax is polar opposite. Dax is the type of guy who believes success and fun belong together. His theory is you can have both. Jane and Dax really do compliment each other. I love the chemistry they have.
Erin Nicholas captivated me from page one. I love the Hotcakes series. The secondary characters are so great. I felt like I was there in Appleby. I could smell all the yummy deliciousness and I could taste the cake pops. I couldn’t put Forking Around down. When I was done I just had to read it again. I never wanted it to end. I really felt for Jane. Her struggles hit my heart and kept me reading. So grab you some sweets or better yet strawberries and curl up somewhere and read Forking Around. Once you enter Appleby you won’t want to leave.
Sooo soo good! I absolutely love this book. Erin continually out does herself, not only with the story and characters but also with the fun, **wink wink** Jane has enough on her plate, her father is in a nursing home, her sister doesn’t get along with her stepmother and stepsister and to top it off Her coworkers depending on her. Dax is the complete opposite, he is fun loving and never met an idea that he couldn’t bring to life. This is an awesome opposites attract fun loving small town romance book.
I loved Jane and Dax. I laughed out loud and I even cried. When Dax and his buddies by the factory Jane works in, she is instantly attracted to him but makes up her mind that she can’t have him because he’s her boss. The outrageous things he does to get her attention or beyond yummy. But in the end her lip-sync was what closed the deal. Can’t wait for the next book!!!
Forking around is the second book in Erin Nicholas’s new Hot Cakes series. Jane is a hard worker caring for her sister, her father, her coworkers…honestly, I’m not sure if there is anyone Jane doesn’t take care of!
Dax is an accidental millionaire after creating and marketing a video game with his friends. One of these friends is from Appleby, Iowa and wants to buy a factory there to keep it from closing down.
Jane works at this factory. When she meets Dax she does everything she can to resist him. She doesn’t want to have a romantic relationship with one of her bosses! Jane is practical while Dax is over the top.
Be prepared to swoon and to never look at a strawberry the same again!
Dang this book has it ALL! I laughed so hard while reading this heartfelt, sweet, sexy, fun book that I had to read parts of it to my husband so he could understand what I was laughing about! The chemistry between Dax and Jane is great. The friendships they have each have with the other characters in this series is awesome. I loved this book. I received this book at no cost in exchange for my honest review.
Forking Around is a feel good story from beginning to end. Dax is a fun loving guy who sets his sights on beautiful Jane who works in his newly acquired factory. Jane is responsible, a care taker, a reliable friend…with an addiction to sugar! Jane doesn’t have time for someone like Dax, but he is exactly what she needs in her life. Someone to help lighten the load. Dax shows Jane that she can still take care of everyone and have some fun in her life as well. And what better way to do that then with a hot millionaire by your side?
So sit back, don your fedora, play some Frank Sinatra and enjoy the second book in Erin Nicholas Hot Cake series. It’s delicious!
Hilariously funny!!!! And steamy!!!!! And makes you want sugar, all the time….and red velvet cake…..and Dax Marshall.
This is the second book in the Hotcakes series. We’ve met the crew, guessed about who was going to do what but it is so much more fun as we see these stories unfold.
Dax is the player. He actually wears a fedora and is as smooth as a baby’s butt when chatting up a lady friend. Jane has no time for that kind of man. Although she is tempted , extremely tempted, she has her hands full. She just needs to keep this job and she’ll take all of her pleasure from her obsession with sweets, specifically cake pops from her best friends bakery. Dax isn’t going to be that easy to escape from. And he knows the way in….
Love this series and can’t wait for the stories of Grant, Ollie and Cam.
Love, love, love this book and of course Jane and Dax. I was definitely crushing on Dax in the first book (Sugarcoated) but he’s definitely become one of my new book boyfriends. From their banter about her love of cake pops, to finding her dropped half-eaten cake pop (loved the nod to Cinderella), to their flirtations, the friendships with Dax and his friends/business partners and Jane and her friends, this book was perfection from beginning to end, I would give it 10 stars if I could. Dax is the all-around good guy and just wants to make everyone happy and Jane needs a cheerleader in her corner since she is always there for everyone. So many amazing parts to this story. I loved Dax’s grand gesture with his shares of Hotcakes and Jane’s grand gesture was totally on point for Dax. One of the highlights was the Lip Sync Battles and I also loved how Dax made Jane’s life better by helping her sister and Aspen and of course her dad. These two just made me happy and are definitely made for each other – with strawberries and gummy bears and of course Frank Sinatra. So looking forward to reading Making Whoopie. Appleby, Iowa, needs to be a real place so I can get in my car and go see our friends and stop and get ALL the yummy treats. My all-time favorite line from his story is, ‘People should never apologize for loving what they loved’, so true.
This is the second book in this absolutely delightful series. This is a wonderful mash-up of fairytale and workplace romance. Jane and Dax’s story is filled with charm, sweetness, humor, heart and heat. A simply beautiful, powerfully moving and deeply heartwarming tale about life and love. I loved it and can’t wait for book #3! This is my sincere, independent review.
This series is my new obsession! The first book, with Aidan and Zoe, was fun and sweet and I loved it. This second story, with fun loving Dax and strawberry loving Jane, is possibly even better. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but I guess it’s a good sign when the current is always the favourite. That means Erin Nicholas is keeping it up, making me swoon with and fall in love with her characters’ romantic journeys. We’re back in Appleby and I never want to leave. These books have everything I love about an Erin Nicholas romance; they’re fun, great dialogue, real characters, great dynamics and world building. I loved Dax and Jane and now I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Grant and Josie coming up.
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is book 2 in the series and easily stands alone as I did not read book 1 and I was not lost at all. This is a story about Jane who works at a cake snack factory that 4 billionaires have bought and one is Dax.
Dax is in instalust with Jane but her life is a mess and so he wants to help her with her life, her sisters and her dad. He is a really fun and adorable character and he tries so hard to make Jane’s life and her families better.
I really liked Jane, even though she is very busy and has a lot on her plate. I also adored Dax and Grant and Ollie and Piper too. Jane’s friends who work and own the bakery are adorable too. I cannot wait to see which couple is next in this series. I am rooting for Ollie and Piper.
This story is a bit like Cinderella in a factory in more modern times and it was a great retelling.
I fell hard for Dax Marshall within the first few pages. Fun loving, with a heart of gold, there is more to this Ping Pong playing, Gummy Bear eating troublemaker than meets the eye! Jane is a strong, fierce, serious heroine with a lot of responsibilities, but he brings some much needed joy and light-heartedness to her world. This has all the banter, sass, comedic value and heat that I expect of an Erin Nicholas book, and I cannot wait to spend more time in this world!
Deliciously Addicting! Just my type, sexy, highly entertaining and perfectly romantic. Adorable and laugh out loud funny was L-O-V-E at first page for me.
Dax and Jane are a total force to be reckoned with, and their story is one that you are not going to want to miss. When this Cinderella finds her Prince Charming.
Full of heart, heat, humor, emotions, love and swoon! Warning this story will make you laugh, swoon and fan yourself, as well as want some Strawberry Pie!!
Received a free copy, writing a review voluntarily.
If you love a book that is fun, flirty and keeps you smiling from beginning to end then you must read Forking Around! It is a great addition to the Hot Cakes series!
Erin Nicholas has a way of perfectly combining interesting characters and an entertaining storyline filled with great banter and laugh out loud moments.
It is so easy to like Dax and Jane! Dax is a bit of a player, but felt immediately drawn to Jane and I think her initial rebuttal of his flirting definitely put her into a category above any other women that he knew. She is quick witted, feisty and funny. As Dax gets to know her he also realizes that she is smart, caring and so much more.
Dax always comes across as the fun guy, but Jane discovers that he has so many great qualities. He is smart, charming, sexy, but most importantly, he truly cares about other people and he simply loves to make everyone happy.
These two have an easy going chemistry that was addictive and thoroughly enjoyable!
I hope you take a chance on this fantastic story! You definitely won’t be disappointed!
Forking Around by Erin Nicholas is book Two in the Hot Cakes Series. This is the story of Dax and Jane. Dax is a very wealthy man who knows what he wants…which is Jane. Jane is the modern Cinderella when he dad married a younger women who when he became ill didn’t stand by him as she should. So Jane has to look after her dad who is in a home, then there is her younger sister who she has to oversea along while working. So Jane has no time for for any thing else…her plate is full. So she not going down easy when Dax starts to make his attention toward her known. This was a fun, funny and hot read. Really enjoyed it!
Forking Around, another amazing book by Erin Nicholas, book two in her Hot Cakes series, is a “can’t put down” story, and a take on the Cinderella fairy tale. We have the sexy hot, creative, generous and princely Dax, who is so charming a fairy godmother couldn’t compete. Jane is juggling more plates than one would think possible. Between her father’s illness, her wicked-ish stepmother, her little sister’s teenage drama, and the co-workers who depend on her, another mess just might tip her over the edge. Dax has learned that you can be successful while really enjoying life and having fun. He has been able to charm everyone he’s met, at least until he meets Jane. She takes Dax seriously and believes they have nothing in common. The challenge for Dax is on; he will prove he can charm her. These two are more alike than they realize. They both want to make others happy and they truly care about others. Jane, a forklift operator at Hot Cakes, amazing, daughter, role-model sister, tolerant step-daughter, best friend to Zoe & Josie, and lover of all strawberry sweets needs some fun, distractions, and an assistant in her life. Dax is there to provide it all. He is the missing puzzle piece to her picture of life. Now, if only Dax can convince Jane to let him be that assistant.
Ms. Nicholas outdid herself by writing an amazing, sexy story with a charming hero and an overloaded heroine, with terrific best friends, that is definitely not to be missed. Plus I learned a number of new uses for desserts during foreplay. This is a tale rich with emotions, sizzling chemistry, sassy and charming characters, giving Jane and Dax a forever love. I highly recommend Forking Around to other readers and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I’m so freaking in love with this series!! Dax & Jane….whew! I love how they just complimented each other so perfectly. Dax brought levity to Jane’s life and she helped him to feel like he was taken seriously. They just had me smiling and their chemistry had me swooning! I didn’t want to put it down & read it in one sitting!
I really love this series and I can’t wait for the next book!!
This is the second book in the Hot Cakes series, and it is just as yummy as the first! I will never think of strawberry pie the same!!
Jane is responsible, hardworking, and has the biggest sweet tooth in town. She has far too many irons in the fire to add a carefree, fun-loving, videogame developer to the mix. Between her father, her sister, and evil stepmom she does not make time for men other than to have sex here and there. She doesn’t have the time or energy for an actual relationship. Little does she know; Dax might be just what she needs.
Dax is handsome, impulsive, and rich but he puts his heart into everything he does. He helped start up Fluke, their gaming business, but also likes to have fun above all else and does not take things too seriously. He has an infectious way about him that draws people to him, and he makes sure everyone around him is having a good time. Dax also wants to be the one to make Jane happy… forever.
Dax and Jane could not be more different if they tried and they prove that opposites do attract. If you like sweets, fun guys, and strong women than this is the book for you!
