A Cinderella story with a hot boss so charming even a fairy godmother couldn’t do better.Everyone thinks Dax Marshall is a prince of a guy. And he’s definitely charming. But Jane has enough going on without adding a torrid fling with the boss to her life. Between her father’s illness, her wicked-ish stepmother, her little sister’s teenage drama, and the co-workers who depend on her—she can’t … on her—she can’t handle another mess.
No matter how tempting and gorgeous the mess may be. Or how messy he wants to get with her.
Dax has spent his life being very serious about only one thing: proving you can be successful while still having a helluva good time. But he’s just met the one woman who might break his I-can-charm-anyone streak. She’s actually taking him seriously…and she seriously thinks they have nothing in common and can’t be together.
Maybe he’s the one who needs a new view of happily ever after. It’s time to stop forking around.

FORKING AROUND (Hot Cakes Book #2) by Erin Nicholas is a heartfelt contemporary Cinderella romance and the second book in this scrumptious series. I will never be able to look at a strawberry pie again without thinking of Jane and Dax.
Jane survives her life day by day. She has a terminally ill father in a nursing home and a wicked stepmother who continually pits her daughter against Jane’s younger sister. As she struggles to keep the peace between her relatives, she also is the go-to person at work who is willing to take on problems to help her coworkers out. She does not have time for her fun loving and charming new boss.
Dax lives to prove that you can be successful even as you are having a good time. With his yellow office, beanbag chairs and jars of gummy bears, he works at making ideas come true. He has never met a problem he cannot use his charm and his money to solve while also making everyone happy.
Jane does not believe in happily ever after and she does not believe Dax will stay. Dax wants to make Jane happy, but he needs to quit forking around and prove to her that he is in her life for all the good and the bad happily ever after.
This is such a fun story! Dax is wonderful with his attitude of fun and it is always used to make someone else happy. With his love of all things Frank Sinatra and gummy bears, you cannot help but fall for him. Jane so deserved to have someone like Dax walk into her life and it is the sweetest of Cinderella stories with plenty of strawberry bakery goods thrown in. The dialogue is witty and full of double entendre. The sex scenes are fun and hot, but not gratuitous. This book can be read as a standalone, but you are going to want to read how all the friends from FLUKE, Inc. fall.
I recommend this new addition to the Hot Cakes series and cannot wait for the next!
I can always count on Erin Nicholas for sexy heroes! A fun second installment to the adorable and steamy Hot Cakes series.
Fantastic! The Hot Cakes series continues to amaze me with Dax’s story, Forking Around.
Dax is one of the new owners of Hot Cakes, a snack cake factory. He falls hard and fast for Jane, one of his new employees. Dax, an incurable flirt and all around charmer, pulls out ALL the stops to woo the responsible, level headed Jane (seriously, this guy is majorly swoon-worthy!). Jane is so not impressed with the dashing millionaire and has no interest or time for a relationship.
I love Dax. He is funny and impulsive and creative with a huge heart, all things I love in a hero. I very much related to Jane who had her priorities set and wasn’t going to be easily swayed.
Funny, romantic, steamy, Forking Around is everything I love about Erin Nicholas novels. If you haven’t started this series, you are definitely missing out!!
Oh my goodness I am all in this Hot Cakes world! What a delightful place! I am completely OBSESSED with Dax and Jane, these two are such polar opposites while still being so similar in all the most important ways. I absolutely LOVED watching the two of them realize they were falling in love with one another and all that it entailed, such a beautifully fun, witty, Sinatra filled HEA!
Dax makes things happen wgile making people happy. Even if they did not takebhim seriously most of the time. Jane has not time to goof around. She goes to work to Hot Cakes and takes care of her family. Csn Dex show Jane that he csn make her happy and feel loved? sweet audiobook with two great narrators. Erin bring sll the best in her characters and you can’t help but fall in love with them
Forking Around by Erin Nicholas is a romantic comedy with some serious moments encompassed within the fun. Dax Marshall is one of the new owners of Hot Cakes. He is one of the fun ones, along with Ollie. Grant has his bottle of Tylenol labeled “Dax.” At the new ownership announcement party he had met a girl. She had red hair, a killer body, and loved cake pops. She didn’t hesitate to admit it. She wouldn’t tell him her name, though. Not that that was a big deal in Appleby. The next day he had a bouquet of red velvet cake pops delivered to her at work. He really liked her. At the same time, he was busy making things better for the employees at Hot Cakes: a cappuccino machine, a ping pong table, a big screen TV, all in the employee’s lounge. He wanted Jane and made no secret of it. She wanted him right back, but he was her boss. AND she was too busy for men; her life was too complicated.
This is a great book. It has it all: spoiled teens, spoiled adults, a disable person, a nursing home, people falling in love, friendships. It also has comic relief in the person of Max, Jane’s best friend and unabashedly gay. He’s always right there drooling over Dax or pestering Jane for details. He’s great. It didn’t surprise Jane that she was in love. It did surprise her that Dax was. He seemed more of a fling guy. He bought the nursing home, but he had a short attention span. These were people’s lives and Jane was worried. Dax’s friends jumped in. No doubt about it. The relationships between these five guys are worth the price of the book. You knew it was going to work out; that there would be a happily-ever-after. It was the charm of the journey that captured my attention and kept me reading. What a terrific, feel-good novel. Congratulations, Erin Nicholas!
The narration through Audible did the author proud. Rather than reading characters the male and female readers, Jason Clarke and Lili Valente alternated chapters. It was a good approach and was so natural that I didn’t notice fore several chapters. They were comfortable and low-key, letting the words speak for themselves. It was the perfect listen for days at the gum. I recommend it.
I was invited to listen to a free ARC on Audible by the author. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Another sweet (but not overly so) book in the Hot Cakes series. Not only was this book hot, but it totally woke up my sweet tooth. Jane is this strong, independent woman who is carrying so much stress and pressure around with her. This was relatable to me in certain ways, especially her struggles with a family member’s health. And she does her best to help everyone without asking for anyone’s help in return.
Enter Dax. At first glance, Dax is a light-hearted goofball. But deep down, he is always doing his best to help people. To make them happy. And he is also super friendly, whether it’s bantering with Jane’s friend Max, dealing with catty teenagers, or working with seniors at a nursing home, Dax is always kind and respectful. And he treats everyone with dignity. He may come off as immature, but he loves hard. He give the term “hero” new meaning.
I enjoyed every second of this book. And the narrators really brought the characters to life, as they always do. I highly recommend this series so far.
Where do I begin? Well as you all know Erin’s books all have a HEA, but it’s the waiting to see how these couples make their HEA happen. It is well worth reading. I am a big fan of Erin Nicholas books. Now onto book 3.
Audio Review:
Forking Around (Hot Cakes Book 2) a small town romance dredged with sweet and salty moments. Dax and Jane bond over their love for cakepops with flirty back and forth banter. Humor, romance and entertaining supporting character’s ice the cake.
Jason Clarke, Lili Valente dual naration was flawlessly perfect. Transitioning between different characters is smooth and feels natural. I love Jason Clarke’s deep baritone inflection and could listen to him all day. Lili’ sweet tone is music to the ears.
Absolutely love listening to these two narrate this series.
Overall, a fun listen and I look forward to listening to the next audio in this series.
Oh I loved this so SO much. I’m totally a Jane–the one who’s uber responsible, practical, taking care of everybody around me. And we all need a Dax–that guy who makes everything more fun, keeps us from taking ourselves to seriously, and cares about making people laugh. And what a stinger in there for book 3! Can’t wait!
In the newest Road Tripping Series book, Test Drive, we meet Willow and Levi. Willow works as a dog walker and part time nanny while not using her psychology degree that her parents made her get. Levi owns a pub and is proving to be very successful at a job he loves. When Willow (a real clumsy girl) trips and falls in front of the pub, Levi runs out, picks her up, brings her into the pub and takes care of her. He is smitten and so is she, but secretly of course. After visiting the pub for months Willow needs a fake boyfriend to attend her grandmother’s birthday party in Florida. Levi jumps at the chance. On their road trip they get to know each other. Will what they are feeling turn into real feelings? Will they admit it to each other? Will Willow’s pretty hip grandmother catch on and help? A really fun time finding out! And another great addition to the series.
Book 2 in the series is better than book 1. Can’t wait for Cam’s story!!
Love this series!
Great book, but then you can’t go wrong when it’s written by Erin Nicholas.
Loving this story even more than Sugarcoated!
