Ups and downs
This is a series based on Egyptian Gods coping with living in the modern world. Each book in this box set is reviewed individually below.
Book 1: Protectors of Poison
Serket has been hiding for years, pretending to be the human, Sera. She moves around a lot, so not to create suspicion on the fact that she ages extremely slowly. She’s quite happy to have left her old life behind, despite her waning power, but nothing lasts forever.
Serket just happens to be the God of Poisons, her animal form being a scorpion. She’s quite far away from her many scorpions, when it appears someone is not only trying to wipe her out, but has managed to use her scorpions to fix a crime onto her…
This, unfortunately, ended with no full conclusion. I was a bit stumped by the ending. The story itself was full of lots of promise, which didn’t pan out fully. I still enjoyed it overall, though, just not as much as if it were complete.
Rating: – Really liked
Book 1.5: Priestess of Truth
I actually read and rated this book before, which can be found here: https://www.bookbub.com/reviews/3862701516. Unfortunately, the reread didn’t make me feel any better about the book.
Rating: – Sort of liked/OK
Book 2: Daughter of the Sun
Sekhmet is the Goddess of Vengeance. She has been cursed by her father, Sun God Ra, and has been trapped inside a sphinx for millennia. Yet, her father wants to find her again, not to apologise for the years she’s been trapped, but to gain her help in stopping the God of Chaos, Seth. Yet, her freedom has a caveat – no blood-blind vengeance…
She is encouraged, throughout the story, to embrace her alter-ego, Bastet. A surprise romance somehow manages to calm her fiery side, bringing her closer to peace than she’s been in many years.
And, of course, she finds out the truth about the curse and why she has been “disabled”…
Unfortunately, this is another story with no true progression or resolution. It was enjoyable, but the ending left me disappointed again.
Rating: – Really liked
Book 3: Servant of Chaos
This story follows Rhodopis, one of Seth’s slaves. It is loosely based on the legend, which is a kind of Cinderella story (and, according to Wikipedia, the earliest known variant of this). She has some power within the household, yet is unable to escape – anyone caught escaping is brutally beaten, even killed. Anyone even daring to anger Seth in even the smallest way can be subject to this fate. As the God of Chaos he, of course, likes nothing better than upsetting people and causing mayhem. Yet Rhodopis tries to keep the peace as much as possible, encouraging the other slave girls to follow the rules and not stand out. Unfortunately, she cannot save them all…
Rhodopis herself is saved when she attracts the attention of one of the party of a visiting dignitary. Yet she knows that any brief moment of escape will only make the following years of torture worse.
This has a loose ending and no true resolution. Rhodopis knows she’ll never be free from Seth, so how is that an ending, trying to “pretend” that everything will be OK? Or, at least, that’s how it seemed.
Rating: – Sort of liked/OK
Conclusion:
What’s most annoying about these books is that they don’t actually follow on from each other. There are snippets that you believe should, with hints of things to come in the previous books, yet there’s no story arch at all! I had expected at least some reference between books two and three, at the most, considering this one defining factor is mentioned. Yet, there is nothing. It’s a real shame, as each story has such an incomplete ending, that it would have been so much better if the stories were linked in some way. I should be rating the series lower than the average of 3.5, but I’ll round it up as it was still good in places.
Final rating: – Really liked
It was stellar reading about Egyptian times and magic! The author did a great collection of 4 books that can be read alone but much better to read the entire series. Very easy to follow and becomes complete page-turning as you jump from book to book to finish!

Thrilling series that had me on the edge of my seat with each new emotional thrill from beginning to end. Action packed, sexy, fun and engaging adventures filled with exciting charters, witty banter, hear racing twists and thrilling passion. Loved this box set that has the entire series.
I’ve read each of these books separately and loved getting them in a box set. This author has piqued my interest into the world of mythology and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Protectors of Poison:
This is a quick, well written story with a mix of mystery, mythology, shifters and romance. I love the way the past and present collide with magic and the journey we go on with Sera to find out why she’s losing her powers and if she can get them back. I will definitely be looking for more of the Zodiac Shifters books to read.
Priestess of Truth:
Priestess of Truth is a quick read and the prequel to the Forgotten Gods series. After reading this prequel I am definitely intrigued and looking forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out more about all of the characters. This is a well written, short story with interesting characters and a great intro to a magical series.
Daughter of the Sun:
Interesting twists in Sekhmet’s story where after being trapped for thousands of years she is now free. I loved Sekhmet’s inner monologue and how this story is based on Egyptian mythology. This is a quick, well written story with a mix of mythology, mystery, magic and romance.
Servant of Chaos:
Rhodopis has been a servant to the God of Chaos but when she learns about life outside she wants out. This is a quick, well written story and is based on Egyptian mythology.
This is the complete series of Egyptian themed paranormal romance stories.
The stories are set in the time of Egyptian gods. They are well written and easy to read, with interesting plots that with some unexpected twists to it which keep you on your toes. The characters are well developed and present interesting variants on the original myths. Personally, I really enjoyed the Egyptian mythology elements throughout this series. Overall, an excellent series and a very enjoyable read.
Highly recommended.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. The Forgotten Gods: The Complete Series by Laura Greenwood is a set of three books. This was an exciting read for me because I absolutely love mythology. especially Egyptian mythology. This set of three books is an awesome rollercoaster ride full of fun, drama, emotional turmoil and brilliantly written characters. I actually read the first book (Protectors of Poison) when it first released in 2018 and fell in love with Sera’s story. When I saw all the books put together in one set, I jumped at the chance to read the books back to back. Despite the fact that the characters are based on mythology and therefore not original characters, the spin that Laura Greenwood puts on her version of these Gods is amazing. The stories she gifts as experiences are so worth the read. Here is a not to be missed read if you are a fan of Gena Showalter, Ilona Andrews or Rick Riordan’s style (But As An Adult Version).

Gods, when not prayed to, lose their magical powers. This is a collection of stories about gods, who live a life of their own, nearly forgotten, but not entirely….
A nice collection of short stories or novelettes, with interesting characters, who face new and unexpected challenges.
The stories are entertaining, not connected, stand-alone stories. Light-hearted fun to read.

Included in this set is the complete Forgotten Gods series. I’ve really enjoyed this series. I found the storyline well written and it kept my interest throughout. The characters are likable and well developed. A definite must read series.

This is a great way to grab the complete series and read it in one go. All the stories are fun to read and not too deep or scary. Just a good way to read away a weekend. I liked the mix/new take on Mythology with a hint of today and some magic and god power mixed in. Individually they are quick reads with interesting characters and did have a plot that was easy to follow. They were steamy and made me laugh. Plus they were not all the same story.
ONE CHART TOPPING COLLECTION!!!
Freaking fantastic! Laura drops the bomb and lowers the boom, weaving a cocoon so intricately and tight, drawing you deeper into this tangled web, until everything else ceases to exist. A raging tempest of daunting circumstances and surprising inconsistencies, blow this baby into the eye of the storm, bursting it into a tailspin with an astonishing culmination. Sparks fly as drama, distress, intrigue, turmoil, danger and soaring suspense, keeps you riveted on a razors edge. Illustrating incredible, well rounded scenario’s, ramping up the adrenaline and exuberance with such intensity and precision, blasting this little fella to life spectacularly. The characters are authentic and original with qualities and traits that transforms into amazing personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and colorful descriptions so rich and lively, they blend and flow smoothly. Remarkable job Laura, thanks for sharing this amazing collection with us.
The Forgotten Gods books 1-3 a well written set of Egyptian myths once I started I was not putting them down until I finished reading them. It did leave a kind of question at the end that I hope the new series will answer. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Egyptian priests, priestesses, Gods, and Goddesses all want the same as humans. Love and respect. A forgotten Goddess of healing has been asked by a lesser God to save Osiris. She has been set up to look like one of her scorpions has poisoned him. But because she has been forgotten by humans she hardly has any magic or healing left. Or is there a more sinister reason why she has little magic? A priestess accepts that a high priest lion shifter is her true love after a tarot reader confirms it and her goddess gets them together. The Goddess of vengeance has been cursed for thousands of years to be trapped in the sphinx. It wasn’t fair that she was doing what she was created to do and if she ever gets free she will get vengeance on Ra, her father, and the one who cursed her. But once free she can continue on her path to vengeance and then be cursed forever, or reinvent herself and choose life and her new love. Which is stronger, vengeance or love? Rhodopos has been a slave for hundreds of years, having to serve a cruel master. But when visiting Gods come she meets Abu and he claims she is a goddess. But Rhodopos doesn’t have any powers so she can’t be a Goddess. Or can she be? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
These are great stories stemming from mythology. It’s fun reading the author’s spin on them while getting the romance and magic that you expect. It’s a great box set as you don’t have to stop to continue to the next story and I was able to enjoy them better.

I have read a number of books by Ms. Greenwood and this boxed set is not going to be a favorite by any means. The stories are well-written but I never felt any connection to the characters or even to the subject matter for that matter. Maybe I would have enjoyed them more if I had been more interested in mythology, to begin with. Probably my loss since this is a very good author and her other books are great.

A collection of mythological stories, Protector of Poison, Priestess of Truth, Daughter of the Sun and Servant of Chaos.
Each tale is about finding love in an unexpected person, forgotten, and finding who you really are. I read the series over a weekend and enjoyed each tale. My favorite was Servant of Chaos. Her acceptance of her life is changed and how she grows is well written and powerful.
