Kelsey Kingsley is a favorite of mine, and I get all of her books on release day, and read them right away. I can’t help it. Forget the Stars is another great addition.
We were familiar with Chad from the previous novels, and had no idea what he was going through. While the novel deals with the serious issue of medical conditions, it deals with it in a sensitive, realistic, loving way. Molly is a great match for Chad, and reading about them reconnecting is sweet and loving. And since the book is a little heavier than others, it has a good amount of humor in Sebastian, too.
Another great novel, and Kelsey will stay on my must-read list.
This story was amazing! I typically avoid a lot of books about people with diseases after the whole YA books with cancer trend happened but this book handled the disease story line perfectly. It explained the situation and how each person feels and reacts, but most of all it teaches that if we truly love someone as a person then we love them diseases and all. This book showed that perfectly with Chad’s friends and family, who showed him that this disease didnt make them see him as anything less. I loved Molly and how she saw the world, I connected with her on a special level. Watching their relationship grow was amazing and I hope to see them in future books as their storyline continues!
There’s nothing formulaic about Kelsey Kingsley’s writing, thank goodness, and this is especially true in her latest novel about Chad (the guitarist from Devin O’Leary and the Blue Existence, a band that appears in a few of her other novels).
Forget the Stars veers off the path of a simple, uncomplicated love story because Kelsey wasn’t afraid to tackle the harder things: relationships that pass their expiration dates, chronic illness, weight, and the effect that bullying has on people well after they’re grown up. For me, this was probably the most relatable story she’s written, and Kelsey wrote it in a way that is honest, compelling, and inclusive. The characters aren’t perfect, and the subject matter isn’t fluffy, but there’s still plenty of romance. That, plus her ability to weave enough context from other stories in the series (in a way that the reader can start with any of the books and isn’t stuck in a chronological order) makes it a truly enjoyable read.
Looking forward to more from this series and author!
This is one of my favorite reads of 2019, for sure. I’ve been highly anticipating Molly and Chad’s story, and oh my gosh – it did NOT disappoint. Chad’s life is chaotic for most of the story, but once he figures out what will make him happy – and healthy – again, he finally gets the wish he’s been waiting on for what feels like his whole life. Chad’s character is sexy and stunning, but he’s also very sick and in denial over how he and others will handle the impending diagnosis. I thought Kingsley did such a great job spotlighting this chronic disease and showing how life does go on with this diagnosis (and can get better, even if the disease never truly goes away). I suffer from a chronic disease like the one discussed in the book, and it was so refreshing to see this topic covered and brought to light.
And Molly. Man. Molly is beautiful, and fierce, and she overcomes so much to be the powerful woman that this story portrays. She goes through such a stunning – yet subtle – transformation in this book. I loved her character, and I especially loved her and Chad together.
From meddling moms to scary moments to trips down memory lane with Chad’s band (I’m trying not to give too much away, but they seriously help make this story as awesome as it is), this book has it all. I’ll be reading this one over and over again.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book, and thank you to Kelsey Kingsley for providing it. This book is just as phenomenal as I was expecting – and more.
“In a Sky Full of Dim Stars, You are Shining the Brightest.”
What does it say about a writer and her work when the tag line for my review heading comes from the acknowledgements and not the body of the book? With this one, I can tell you it speaks to her beautiful, compassionate heart that she pours freely into her work, every single time. With this book, I dare say, that’s even more true.
Chad Wilcox, guitarist for the immensely popular rock group, Devin O’Leary and the Blue Existence, thought by the time he turned thirty his life would look a little different than it does. Yes, the professional success is there, but his eight-year romantic relationship has stalled. When he gets reacquainted with his childhood best friend, Molly Dwyer, things come clearly into focus and Chad makes a long-needed change. He’s also dealing with an illness he’s ignored for far too long, until he has no choice but to face it head on, but now he has his best friend at his side.
Once again, I’m in awe of this writer’s talent and versatility, giving us another book that is so different from the last but no less touching and profound. Of course these characters own my heart, but there are hidden depths in their story that I’m still discovering. Chad and Molly are perfectly humanized and beautifully flawed, and with no effort at all they burrowed deep and carried me along through their poignant, heartfelt story.
This novelist paints a sobering, gripping picture of a devastating illness, making it real and authentic while eliciting true compassion and understanding. She then draws back the curtain on the bullies, benevolently humanizing them and casting them in a new light. She took a huge risk and, for me, it paid off in spades. We all love a romance that lets us escape, because really, that’s why we read them. But this book stopped me in my tracks, making me think, opening my eyes and changing my heart, and that, dear reader, is an invaluable gift.
This book may not be for every reader. Some may not get it, and some will simply want an escape and nothing more, and that’s certainly understandable. I have no doubt those who have read the other books in the series will snatch this one up simply to catch up with the other characters, because it’s like reacquainting with old friends and, for some of us, like coming home. But if you want a book with eternally endearing and relatable characters, a heartfelt, captivating, poignant storyline, and one that has the potential to compassionately enlighten the reader, ponder it no more and get your copy of this one today.
*I read an early edition of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide feedback and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source.
Kelsey Kingsley has written a number of books in this world and I was looking forward to reading Chad’s story!
Kelsey has a wonderful ability to write heartfelt, unique characters who you can relate to. Chad is dealing with real issues that aren’t often discussed in book form let alone in real life. I enjoyed the story as he reconnects with his childhood friend Molly and things develop into more.
Kelsey’s writing and this story are definitely not to be missed.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I just finished reading Forget the Stars and let me say that Chad’s story will not disappoint you! If you have been reading this series since Daises and Devin, you have come to know Chad Wilcox, the tatted Texan guitar player. Chad is now turning 30 and for him it’s a big deal. He had a vision for his life and that included being married and possibly having a couple of kids. His girlfriend of 8 years was never on board with Chad’s plan and he wonders if its just not meant to be. Chad also has a serious health issue going on that he keeps pushing under the rug. Maybe if he ignores it enough it will go away on its own. Chad is home in Texas living with his parents before heading out on the band’s next tour. While he is there, he runs into his childhood best friend Molly. These two were inseparable until high school and its cliques broke them apart. They have rarely seen each other in the last 12 years even though their mothers are best friends. Molly is an amazing character. She has grown and matured and is in a very happy place in her life. She has no desire to look back and just lives in the present. Forget the Stars is a very reflective story. It’s all about personal growth, finding ones happiness and choosing the path that is right for oneself. I loved these two together and enjoyed every moment of their way to rediscovering each other. Chad was great but Molly is my hero. She is a fictional character that I think every reader can connect with because I think that everyone has a bit of Molly in them. Forget The Stars is a must read. It’s not a rock band story but a story about two people that just happen to perform in a rock band. Do yourself a favor and read this today!
I was so excited for another installment in this series. Each book can technically be read alone, but you see reoccurring characters. Sebastian being my favorite. This particular book tells the story of Chad and his long time friend Molly. A story about everyone deserves a HEA. You never know what someone is going through. It was so well written. Kelsey never fails to bring a story to life. I wish these characters were real and I could hang out with them.
I’ll never forget this poignant story the stars will always remind me. Kelsey once again has written a wickedly awesome book that deals so bravely with IBS issues. Her willingness to address an issue that effects many people will developing a story that also deals with personal insecurities that effect us all in many ways. Some of us turn to food, drugs, or alcohol, or we become bullies to make others feel pain somehow hoping it will diminish our pain. This is a story riddled with these realities as
Chad a hot sexy guitarist for a famous band deals with his stomach pain. Chad is turning 30 when we meet him he is hiding his sickness and in an dead end relationship when Molly comes barreling back into his life. Molly was his best friend since birth but their friendship was put to rest in high school when they were placed in different classes and school teams. Chad has always protected her until that time. Molly was an overweight insecure and lacked social skills. Chad is then drawn into the popular group and he begins ignoring Molly. Molly is the brunt of ridicule and jokes by Chad’s crowd. These two meet again when Chad is home from touring and rekindle their friendship. This is where the story begins as these two old friends navigate the road of trust, friendship, family, sickness, careers, break ups, love and learning to forgive and accept themselves. An emotional roller coaster you don’t want to end. A five star read….bravo Kelsey you once again stole my heart.
I know I say this with every Kelsey Kingsley book, but I am such a HUGE fan of this author’s writing!
Forget the Stars is another K.K. favorite! This story really held a special place in my heart. It hit home for me, because my husband has struggled with Chad’s illnesses for several years. It was obvious from the very beginning that Kelsey did her homework. She was able to tell Chad’s story to perfection and I could not be more excited for her!
You really felt bad for Chad knowing life wasn’t going as planned for him. Then suddenly Molly appears. I loved the history Chad and Molly shared, and was so glad that even after spending years apart, they found their way back. Such a great story!
I have never read a book like this and I can almost guarantee I never will again! This is a story in a class all by itself. I need a day to absorb all that this book is saying before I can write a review worthy of this book.
This story is about bullying, quiet turmoil, best friends, what true friendship is, lifelong friendship, hidden shame, forgiveness, hope, love and unrequited love, family love, family from outside, illness, quality of life, and lack of quality of life, self esteem, what good old hometown means, team, faceless cowardliness, acceptance and seeing the bigger picture and be willing to accept it or reject it, learning to take a chance, willing to give a second chance, showing that everyone even bullies have problems. Every single person has a story to tell.
Kudos to the author, who took a risk and wrote an honest, story about unpleasant issues. She went against the usual type and nailed it. This is a story that will definitely help others. It helped me. However, this book is so much more than just that. This is a Humane story about people, it doesn’t matter rich, famous, average, poor. It’s about people. It has depth, grit and tenderness. The author has outdone herself. Yes, I am a fan of her work but there are so many reasons. She never writes the same story twice. She throws herself into every passage of the story. You can’t write like she does and not be part of the story. Yes, it is a romance book, yes it falls into the happily ever after but this is a book that follows the journey and the destination. However, in this book the journey never ends. Just like in real life we resolve and hit destinations for a time but we continue on. Life isn’t one act it has several scenes and many acts.
Chad isn’t your typical muscle man hero. He’s flawed and has severe issues but his flaws and his honesty make him so darn attractive. You feel him deep in your soul. He’s a good man.
Molly, (I love that name), has been insecure her whole life, for good reasons. She’s been betrayed, hurt, bullied and yet she has survived and come through the other side but not without battle scars.
Together, we get to witness the journey. It’s not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. What we get is honesty, life in all forms, hope and love.
Fortunately we get reacquainted with characters from previous books and that’s a treat. If you’ve never met Sebastian well you need to get on that train. We also have the not so nice people.
Don’t worry you’ll get the laughs, romance, and heat you’re looking for but it’s all portrayed realistically.
There’s a saying, “ good things come in small packages”. Well this is just a little book but it packs a wallop!
I would say don’t forget your dreams, don’t forget your wishes, don’t forget to love and don’t Forget the Stars. You will love every moment of this story. To Kelsey I say you’ve done it again. You never cease to amaze me. This is a book that requires ALL the Stars, an entire universe of them!
Kelsey Kingsley tackles a serious illness that people don’t talk about and she does it with beauty and grace. Chad and Molly have to deal with some really serious issues but they do it together and very well. When the story seemed to be getting a little too heavy, Sebastian was there to make me laugh out loud! All the characters we have come to know and love from the first three books are back plus the addition of Chad and Molly’s parents. I can’t recommend this book enough. I wish I could give it 10 stars!
“The stars aren’t in competition, Molls. The sky is big enough for all of ’em and every single one is needed to help each other shine and become part of something huge and beautiful.”
From Forget The Stars by Kelsey Kingsley
Kelsey Kingsley has done it again! I love reading her books because they make me fall in love with falling in love!
I have been following this band ever since Daisies & Devin. They have found normalcy in a life that is anything but. Forget The Stars is Chad’s story.
Chad and Molly have known each other since they were babies and were best friends yet high school put an end to that.
Now Chad is 30 and he’s not where he wants to be with his personal life.
Fate (or is it mothers?) brings Chad and Molly back in each other’s lives. The fact that Molly still knows Chad better than others has him questioning a lot of things.
This story touches on a delicate subject that is usually considered taboo to talk about, yet the way Kelsey Kingsley wrote it, it makes us realize it’s not a disease that should be swept under the rug and is more commonRyan wet realize.
I loved the development of Chad and Molly’s love story. It’s build up kept me on my toes.
Then there is the infamous bromance! I am so glad Kelsey kept this a big part. Sebastian and Chad have one of the best bromances I have read. Just when things get a little too deep, too raw or too emotional, Sebastian pops up and lightens the mood. His part was needed in the story to give balance to it.
The only thing that kept me from giving this a five-star rating was the sex scenes. To me, there was an important build up to the first sex scene that spanned several chapters. And yet when it finally happened, it was so fast I didn’t even realize they were through. I felt like this particular scene was the one everyone (Chad, Molly AND the reader) were anticipating.
Beyond this, the story was fantastic! As always, Kelsey brings the best soundtrack to her stories! I can’t wait to read Greyson’s story!
Friends-to-lovers, second chances and rockstars. This book has them all plus a love story so sweet and sexy I was swooning over Chad and Molly from the first chapter.
Another fantastic from Kelsey Kingsley!
I have enjoyed all of the author’s books and this one is no exception!
The story of the other members of Devin’s band continues with the story of Chad, or Chaddington Bear, as Sebastian likes to call him.
Chad and Molly had been best friends since childhood, together every year in school until high school. They were separated into two separate wings of high school and soon drifted apart. Chad wanted to be one of the “cool” kids; Molly just wanted to survive the abuse and bullying from the other kids.
Fast forward to Chad’s 30 birthday. Although he’s blessed to play in a successful band, he’s stuck in a dead end relationship and is dealing with some health issues. A chance meeting with Molly reawakens the old friendship they had and opens the possibility of more.
The author explores some darker issues (living with a chronic disease, online bullying, body issues) with clarity and insight.
I gave her bonus points for having male characters who enjoy romcoms (guilty)! A wonderful read!
This was an incredibly moving story about Chad and Molly. Being best friends since childhood and then losing touch with each other, they came back into each other’s lives at the right time. Molly is there when Chad finally gets the diagnosis of his illness. Her support is everything he needs to realize she is so much more to him than his best friend. I loved this book. Kelsey Kingsley always bring moving stories to us and this definitely is one of her best!
Reading a Kelsey Kingsley book is like snuggling up with your favorite blanket. Easy to read, full of emotion and captivating right from the start. The story of Chad and Molly had me hooked from page one. I loved everything about this book. A soon to be re-read story.
4.5 Gutsy Stars!
This was another GREAT book with these AMAZING characters, so while there was serious stuff going on here we still had Sebastian making us laugh and the rest of the crew loyal as ever. I love the fact that this Author wrote a book based around IBS! The fact is that soooo many people suffer from this and no one ever talks about it. Bringing real life issues into a romance story makes it come alive and more relatable to me; the reader, so thank you for that!
I was looking forward the Chad’s story and was not let down, he has a heart of gold. Now let’s mention Molly ~ I loved her and I hated all the things that happened to her BEFORE this story ever started. To see her shine was truly inspiring.
I freakin’ loved this book!!!
4.5 Wish List Stars
I think my heart broke with the opening pages. And I’m sure it was supposed to because Kelsey Kingsley is good like that. Those feelings and emotions, happy or sad, are what I’ve come to expect from her stories and it’s what I love about them too. She writes a beautiful romance about life – the good and the bad.
Chad Wilcox is a loving son and fantastic band member but he wants more. He wants a wife and family. He wants to feel better. I wanted more for him. He deserves it.
Molly Dyer is so sweet it’s hard to imagine what she went through. But from that experience she’s grown into a strong, self-confident woman. But with that confidence she may have given up on some of her wishes. I hope she hasn’t.
We all have wants and regrets and things we would change given the opportunity. I loved how Chad & Molly’s story explored that through the past and present. It focused on true support and unconditional love and health issues we sometimes have no control over. They may be characters in a romance, but they are as real as you can get.
Kelsey’s stories are always filled with characters you want to know on a personal level. And not just the main couple, but the supporting cast as well. It’s all about love, second chances, family, friends, acceptance, and everything in between. I loved it.
P.S. Friends are the best. Sebastian is definitely one of them. Read his story in The Life We Wanted.
Forget the Stars by Kelsey Kingsley is a contemporary, friends to lovers, rockstar romance told in first person dual POV.
Chad and Molly were childhood best friends. They grew up together and were inseparable until high school when they belonged to different social cliques and parted ways. Chad has always felt guilty about what happened to Molly in high school. They have barely seen each other over the past twelve years, even though their mothers are best friends and also neighbors. When they run into each other again, Chad seizes the opportunity to reconnect and they forge a new friendship.
When his band is unexpectedly in need of an opening act for their upcoming tour, Chad sends them a video of Molly performing at a local dive bar. They immediately offer her the job. As Molly spends time with Chad on tour, she becomes increasingly concerned about his health. Though he minimizes the situation, it’s clear that something is seriously wrong. And if that wasn’t complicated enough, feelings begin to develop, but Chad has a long term girlfriend back home.
Can Molly convince Chad to go see a doctor? Or will his illness get the better of him? Will anything happen between Chad and Molly on tour? Or will they just remain good friends? And what really happened between Chad and Molly in high school? Can they truly move past it?
I absolutely loved this story! Molly and Chad are both such great characters. They were likeably flawed, vulnerable and strong as they faced some very real struggles. Kelsey Kingsley has an incredible gift for exploring difficult topics that pull on your heartstrings without weighing the story down. Forget the Stars is no exception as she masterfully dealt with the subjects of bullying, self-image, and chronic illness with compassion, finesse, and humor. I highly recommend it.
