I fell in love with a boy a long time ago. I was only a small girl. Scared and frightened, I was taken from my home and held against my will. His father hurt me, but he protected me and kept me safe as best he could. Until I left him. I ran the first chance I got and even though I knew he wasn’t behind me, I didn’t stop. The branches lashed out at me, punishing me for leaving him in the hands of … leaving him in the hands of a monster.
I’ve never felt such guilt in my life.
Although I survived, the boy was never found. I prayed for him to be safe. I dreamed he’d be alright and come back to me. Even as a young girl I knew I loved him, but I betrayed him.
Twenty years later, all my wishes came true.
But the boy came back a man. With a grip strong enough to keep me close and a look in his eyes that warned me to never dare leave him again. I was his to keep after all.
Twenty years after leaving one hell, I entered another. Our tale was only just getting started.
It’s dark and twisted.
But that doesn’t make it any less of what it is.
A love story. Our love story.

Can you believe that this was my first book by this author? I had many firsts in the last couple of months and this was definitely one of the few that stood out most. I was overwhelmed by the emotional depth of this story and the pain the characters were in. Everything felt so real and my chest hurt until the very end.
This story totally captured me and I couldn’t think of anything else than how the book was going to end.
The Story:
Robin’s job was to help people although she would’ve needed help herself because even though no one could see it, her heart and mind weren’t well. She’s hurt and lives with regret on having left the boy behind who needed her most. His unknown condition gives her nightmares which she doesn’t know how to deal with.
Now the boy turned to a man that is broken possibly beyond repair. He needs Robin to save him and thereby also herself from the unhappy life they live in. Can she put their broken pieces back together? Is a broken soul able to overcome such darkness? Or will it eventually lead to the seemingly inevi-table catastrophe?
Thoughts:
OMG! This psychological thriller will have you turning the pages in no time. It was suspenseful, dark and will let you guessing for a long time.
This book had my head spinning and I loved it! The obvious but at the same time not so obvious dark side of this story captivated me.
I didn’t know at first what to think of the characters because of what they did and how they reacted. I thought that Robin was weird for acting certain ways but later on I understood her better and it became easier to connect with her on an emotional level.
There was so much hurt and pain. I usually like to feel with the characters but in this case I had to distance myself because it was really intense.
There are always two sides to a story and this one was no exception. There’s always the side of which you think you know and then there’s the really knowing one. You will look differently at the story after you’ve finished this book and saw the whole of it.
To be honest, I wasn’t even 30% into the book when I figured it out. I had a feeling from the beginning and then it just clicked. Actually, I was re-ally glad I figured it out so soon because lots of the things I’ve read up to that point made so much more sense. When I finally knew what was going on I saw the characters more clearly and in a different way. I also enjoyed the story far more than before when I was confused the whole time.
Unlike the blurb made me believe, the story was about how broken the char-acters were because of what happened and their fight to heal. I thought we would dive into the dark story of her being taken by his father but that was all in the past. Although the chapters that brought us back to the past gave us a better view of what had been done to the characters.
Tough to read but rewarding. Great characters and well constructed story.
This story….there are no words.
If you’re paying attention, you can guess the twist long before you reach the end. I WAS paying attention, but that didn’t stop me from devouring the pages like they were a nice juicy steak and I hadn’t eaten in a month.
Willow Winters is a master at dark and twisty. Jay is broken and he has every right to be as damaged as he is. Robin’s love for the boy who kept her safe for as long as he could is breathtaking and empowering. No matter how scared she is to face the past or love the beautiful broken man in front of her, she trudges through, proving her devotion. John is an enigma. He’s the third wheel that shouldn’t make sense, but completely fits.
I am now a total fan girl. I <3 me some Willow Winters!!!
And if you haven't read it yet, take my advice... get on it and PAY ATTENTION! You won't be disappointed.
Wow! This story was devastating and heartbreaking but at the same time, something amazing and beautiful. It is a great example of unconditional love and touches base on a topic that is rarely talked about. The three POV’s were exceptionally written and really did a number on my mind. This is a definite must read. You’ll be shocked and surprised.
Although this book was low on the romance/steamy scenes, the story still did not disappoint.
I don’t like spoilers so I will try not to give any. This is a dark and sad story of the aftermath from one of the worst kinds of abuse. Robin & Jay’s story us intense, suspenseful and filled with desperation that will keep you guessing until the very end.
This book contained the prequel “Something to Remember”. This was a dark story, about abuse and the violence it breeds. There is an HEA involved, it is twisted but is gained at the end. A lot of emotional and mental baggage to work around. Not really my favorite type of story.
Great idea, it just didn’t follow through. It was very predictable.
Ok so this book is definitely one that made a lasting impression on me. And that’s super hard to do bc I read/listen to 25-30 books on average a month. Love willow winters and recommend ANY and ALL of her books. It was a little difficult to follow at times I was a little confused. But I figured it out fairly quickly. I started reading my moms harlequins when I was twelve and I’m 31 now so it’s hard for me to find really original storylines that aren’t the same basic plot over and over. If you want a twist you don’t usually find and a sad but sweet but scary read, pick this up.
OMG! Have you ever experienced that incredible feeling of discovering a new (to you) author and instantly find yourself addictive to their beautifully captivating words. That is exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago when I picked up my very first Willow Winters read. All I can think is what the heck took me so long? For years I’ve been hearing nothing but phenomenal things about this author and yet it took me forever to pick one up and give it a shot. Within hours I was turning to the last page and wasn’t sure what to do with myself. Of course I knew the only solution was to dive right into another one of her stories….Forget Me Not.
This story had me hooked right from the very beginning and I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation until the very end. There were so many twists and turns…I was captured whole body and soul…I was bent and broken…and my heart was torn to shreds with an abundance of emotions. Gosh I had no clue that this book was going to be like this, but it was EVERYTHING and I don’t regret a moment of time I spent devouring this story. Willow Winters you better prepare yourself because you have a new stalker…I mean NUMBER ONE fan!
I fell in love with this little gem of a book. The characters of Jay and Robin are thrown together as kids of 12 and 14, when both are held captive and abused. As adults they reconnect and try to help each other heal. I can’t recommend this book highly enough! Willow Winters is now one of my favourite writers!
Amazing! Even though I figured out what was going on early in the story, I still loved it. The bond and love between Jay and Robin was unbreakable and it shows even in darkness there’s always light.
phenomenal writer! Can’t say enough about this book. Loved it! Great, lovable characters.
Very disturbing and not an easy read
Holy crap! I had no idea what I was reading till the twist at the end. What a wonderful and exciting book. Worth a read for sure!
I loved reading the book in the perspective of the characters for the exact same event. You got to know how everyone felt at the exact same moment.
While the story had a nice twist, it lacked depth. There was no depth as to the experiences the children endured. There was no depth of why the main characters felt so deeply about one another. The reader was to accept certain accepts of behaviors, feelings, and core being of the main characters based on blanket statements of childhood abuse. The story was good, but could have been fantastic with development of the history of the characters and depth of the characters emotions/feelings.
I loved the intensity of their love.
Loved the characters in the book and the story line. So happy it had a happy ending.
I loved it
You like confusing stories this is the book for you!
