Sergeant Arin Varga has a problem on her hands. She’s supposed to be in charge of a squad of peacekeepers. That’s something she would normally handle with ease, except that now her people are stuck in Earth’s orbit on a doomed superfreighter. To make things worse, they’re being held hostage by a group of very threatening, very menacing silver-skinned Kordolians, who are insistent that all they … want is safe passage to Earth to kill oversized insects.
One particular alien, who goes by the name of Rykal, seems be constantly getting inside her personal space. He isn’t just threatening, he’s friendly and threatening, and if Arin isn’t careful, that could become a major problem.
Forged in Shadow is Book Five in the Dark Planet Warriors Series. It will make more sense if you’ve read the other books first, although that’s probably not absolutely essential.

Warning: This book is a science-fiction alien romance. It contains swearing, violence, sensual sex scenes and silver aliens with fangs. It’s definitely recommended for readers aged 18 and over.

When the ugly insects specie is not their only enemy…
As I said after rereading Jia and Kalan, I could not pass by Arin and Rykal.
After all, he is the one who came back from the dead, a monster in love, ready to everything for his mate.
So we take off where the last book ended, after the Space Station exploded, the surviving humans and the six first division warriors are on a superfreighter, kind of held hostage, waiting for the Kordolians being granted passage to Earth to continue their mission.
Arin as a peacekeeper was allowed a round trip to explain their situation to the earth authorities. But difficult to make them understand humans were on lowest level of evolution in the Kordolians mind, but they have no design (for the moment) on them, apart destroying the ugly Xargeks.
Plus there is this much annoying sexy silver alien who is always taunting her. He tries her limits but always respectful, if only he could stop killing humans when they are on his way.
Rykal is fun, cynical and determined to win Arian’s trust, and a lot more. And he always gets what he wants. Like all his kin, he has been changed in walking monster, a living breathing machine to kill. And he is test his limits for the human he is falling for.
This is a nonstop actions story, they will run from one danger to another, trapped, betrayed but nothing stop a first division warrior, even more when his mate is threatened.
I so enjoyed the dynamic of their relationship, their bickering, Rykal’s quips and Arin’s whole acceptance of the being he is, his light and darkest side.

I listened to the audible version of the story and the narrators did a good job. I had to increase the speed a little because otherwise the story would drag so I’m thankful that that’s a option when listening to books. Arin and Rykal’s story was one that was definitely full of action from beginning until the very end. I wish there was a little bit more of a chemistry between the two characters but other than that it was a good paranormal read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
When I saw she published another book in the series, I rushed to buy it! Her books never fail to please me, and this one was no different.
Again she presents strong characters and in depth sexual scenes without being overwhelming. There is a lot of story, which I enjoy in a romance novel. It’s not all fluff, there is fighting, sex, and overall just trying to stay alive in the dangerous realm of space. Rykal is plenty dark and very thrilling! If I could be Arin, I would. She’s a tough soldier, but she melts when Rykal is near.
