Wow, what a great ending to an amazing series. I absolutely loved this series. You can read this book as a standalone but,I wouldn’t advise it because you would miss out on the rest of this amazing series. This is Mac and Amy’s story. Amy needs help to save her boys and the only person that she trusts to do that is the man who rescued them once before. What makes this series great is excellent writing, intriguing storylines and wonderful characters that pull you in and keep on the edge of your seat until the end. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author. I would definitely recommend this book and this series because it is the best. I wish that I could give It more than five stars because it is a perfect 10.
3.75 Stars I wouldn’t recommend reading this if you haven’t read the other 3 books in this series. While I didn’t enjoy this as much as I have other books in this series, I found it to be a pretty solid set up for a spin off. The ending felt a little too clean and I feel like of all the men of the team, Mac had the least growth and his misogyny was a bit icky for me. But the suspense was there and I loved how involved the Shadow Mountain team was in this one. I’m honestly really looking forward to Wolf’s story. Despite all my misgivings, I did enjoy this. After everything Amy has gone through she really shone in this.
FORGED IN EMBER (Red Hot Seals Book 4) by Trish McCallan
This is Jace “Mac” MacKenzie and Amy Chastain’s story. The gruff Commander of the Seals is working with Amy to help save her boys when they find they have been injected with the isotope. Mac is falling in love with her. She is fighting the PTSD of her captivity and abuse, as well as her attraction to Mac. They have a tricky road to travel. Trish McCallan is one of my very favorite authors as I know I will get a well written and solid story. She also brings the heat with her characters and their chemistry. I listened to this on audio. Luke Daniels did the narrating and he did a wonderful job. Great job Trish! This is 5 stars.
Loved reading this book. Story contained danger, mystery, action-packed fighting, and romance. Couldn’t put this book down
I do think it got a little bit into the unrealistic toward the end.
Forged in Ember by Trish McCallan is book 4 (and I believe the final book) in the Red-Hot SEALs series. While some elements of the mystery are connected throughout the series, they can be read as standalone books. But you lose a lot of the backstory and a bit of the drama and mystery if you don’t read the first 3 books. Personally I don’t think you’d be disappointed in any of them. All 4 books are free in Kindle Unlimited but definitely NOT a waste of time and money if you don’t have KU.
Commander Jace “Mac” Mackenzie has been drawn to Amy Chastain since he and his men rescued her and her two boys from captivity by the minions of the New World Order (although they didn’t know who was behind the kidnapping at the time). In a race against time, Amy and Mac are trying to figure out how to save her boys, and the world.
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give Forged in Ember 4.5 stars. The book has old favorite characters and some very mysterious new ones (I’ve heard those will be part of a spin-off series… so I’m looking forward to that). I read the first 3 books in the series long before I became a reviewer and blogger so I was more than hooked on it, and more than excited to see how it was all going to end. The plot is complicated but not so much that you can’t follow it. So I give huge props to the author… As an editor, I know how much time and well… plotting… that takes. The story flowed well, even though it jumps around to several different viewpoints. And honestly… once I started I didn’t want to stop until “The End”! Oh… and I forgot to mention that this is a romantic suspense with a bit of a paranormal twist to it. I’m not a huge paranormal fan (… OK, I like it. I’m just really picky) but I actually did like that twist to this series. So if romantic suspense with a paranormal twist is right up your alley… grab your copy of Forged in Ember today! Really you should just grab the entire series. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
A can’t-miss conclusion to the series
Book 4 in the Red-Hot SEALs, this is NOT a standalone but the conclusion to a storyline that stretches over all 4 books. Each book does focus on a different couple and the previous books end on a HFN for those couples.
I love stories about military types like SEALs. As a fantasy lover, I also love when the stories mix in what I call mysticism–like when the guys have a sixth sense about danger–and there’s more than little of that in this series. In fact, the author did a fantastic job with her world-building, creating a nice balance between the sometimes dark and gritty world of military operators and the more fantastic elements (if you liked the McClouds and Friends series by Shannon McKenna, I’d bet you’d like this as that series had a similar type of storytelling). I also loved the inclusion of the Arapaho culture and language throughout much of the series storyline as I always like learning about other cultures. Note that I’m pretty hopeless with other languages, but I did the immersion reading with both the ebook and the audiobook, so I didn’t have to try to mangle the Arapaho words on my own, lol.
I’ve been waiting for Mac and Amy’s story. Amy is so intelligent, and so strong in spite of everything that she’s gone through, and I love the way Mac’s gruffness doesn’t put her off. Mac has been take-charge and sometimes abrasive in his quest to take care of his team; having been burned by the women in his life, he’s a little bewildered by the way Amy gets under his skin and how she and her kids become part of those he protects. Watching these two characters grow and heal together added a great deal to the appeal of the story, as did Mac’s relationships and banter with his team and Amy’s relationships with her kids.
The plot and pacing were on point; the former had a twist near the end I absolutely did not see coming (though I probably should have) and that had me laughing with joy at the sheer perfection of it, while the later made for a can’t put down read.
Characters, world-building, plot and pacing, this book had it all. This is definitely an author I’ll be stalking…erm, following closely to get her next book. My understanding is that Aiden, Kait and Wolf’s brother, is going to get a full-length standalone novel, and I’m desperately hoping to get Wolf’s story (hint, hint) as well as more from the Shadow Mountain team in general. I can’t wait! 5+ stars
World domination, mystical healings, pulse pounding storyline, and too many what the hell moments to count. A definite five star read the will take you on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs that is worth every minute of your time.
I have read and reread the Red Hot Seals series too many times to count; this long awaited book four has me dancing with joy.
Commander Jace (MAC) Mackenzie is one of my favorite woman hating characters of all time. His disdain for women and reluctance to believe what Zane is telling him in Forged in Fire sets up a character that has endured and steals quite a few scenes. I am looking forward to his fall LOL. Desperate to avenge the death of Admiral McKay and clearing his men’s name has him frustrated.
Amy Chastain is one ball busting heroine and the loss of her husband in Forged in Fire has set her on a path of vengeance she refuses to turn from. Hatred burns bright as the fate of her children hangs in the balance.
The start of the book “Sitrep” gives a great synopsis of the Red Hot Seals to date; and sets up a fast paced read that has you hanging on for the ride of your life.
