Plenty people have deadbeat parents, but how many have fathers who keep showing up to kill them? Just one more example of what a lucky woman I am. Oh wait, I’m not even human anymore—I’m a Fire-controlling Elemental called a Phoenix. And boy, do I have daddy issues!I also have long-lost sibling issues when my sister and brother show up on my new Elemental clan’s doorstep. They were rescued from … rescued from Daddy Dearest’s evil lab by an old enemy in a show of good faith. Turns out that enemy’s now carrying his latest magical science experiments (twins!) and claims she can help us save my bondmate Jake’s own twin, Colin. The one we thought was beyond saving.
Now we’re in a race to find Colin’s watery grave and free my siblings from our father’s psychic powers. If only I master my own abilities as the world’s first Elemental liegelord in centuries, we might stand a chance.
The title’s gender-neutral, thank you very much, and I’m about to show Daddy Dearest he messed with the wrong daughter. Failure’s not an option, because it means that everyone I love will be mind-controlled minions of my father—or dead beyond saving.

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!! Let’s just start off by saying that Kasey MacKenzie sure knows how to draw you into a book. This book is the follow up to Reborn in Fire and is was great. Before you read this book you think of how she will start the book off, and it was not slow. There is a build up of the characters/story and the action scenes were so heart pounding intense. I felt my body tense up while reading. As you read about Cassidy, you can’t help but feel how she felt. She wants the best for everyone she loved and the fact that she is doing what she can to keep things from happening. But don’t count her out. She has a lot of heart and fire (literally speaking as well) which makes you love her more. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series. It is just getting better as you read.
Fantastic stories. That’s right, it’s really two interwoven stories in one. The first story ends at the middle of the book. A few insights into the second story happen before that point. Both stories are fast paced and enjoyable.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
This is the second book in the Untamed Elements series, and I really liked this one, too. Cassidy is quickly becoming secure in herself and those around her which is a good thing as there are many surprises thrown her way in this book. While working to get her best friend back, she is unexpectedly thrown more allies one she really wasn’t expecting. And, to be completely honest, I didn’t see the surprises coming myself which I love when that happens; reading so much has made me see surprises coming! LOL! I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I highly recommend this book and was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
This second book has just as much excitement, suspense, and action as the first and picks up where the first book ends. In this installment, Cass, Jake, and the Clan have several more surprising twists and turns thrown their way as they continue the fight to end her psychotic father’s quest for power. Things definitely heat up and move at a faster pace when an old enemy returns with some shocking news and brings two of Cass’s long-lost siblings along for the ride. Cass’s resilience and determination shine as well as her protectiveness towards her newfound family. Though she is still learning how to use and control her powers, she takes another step to aid them all in the upcoming war against her father and his mind-controlled fanatics as foreseen by a powerful Selkie seer in the Clan. More knowledge is gained regarding her father’s diabolical plans, new alliances are forged, family reunited, powers expanded and much more in this exciting read. The characters are engaging and believable and the author does a good job of bringing them to life with their dialogue, actions, and various conflicts. I am really enjoying this series and I am looking forward to what the author has in store next for Cass, Jake, and the Clan.
I read Reborn in Fire, and enjoyed it so much I’m continuing the series. The idea of a fire-controlling Elemental (i.e., a Phoenix) is fascinating, especially since the Phoenix – which is featured as part of my alma mater’s shield – is also the university’s mascot. It would be a good idea to read Phoenix on the Rise Book 1 first; Book 2 is a continuation, and the characters have previously been well-developed. This continues the story. The action is fast-paced with a lot of sassy banter among Cass and her old and new families, and her new allies. Magic flies thick and fast in five colors, according to the Elemental involved. Cass is still battling her father and his minions for her physical and mental freedom and in this book, she gets a lot of help from her new-found relatives and friends.
Cass and Jake are back, continuing the struggle begun in Book 1, now with the help of the Clan. A surprise visit from an old enemy, Bianca, bringing Cass’s two siblings, Nic and Dia. They join forces to put a stop to the Stalkers, Dorian and Garrett. Then they join Jake’s family, learn many family secrets, collect many new allies (many unexpected), and fight fierce battles when attacked by Garrett and his minions. The numerous enemies include Cass’s missing younger brother, Drew. There is just a brief break to catch our breath at the end of the book, before the battle will inevitably continue in the next book. It’s not quite a cliff-hanger, but you definitely want to continue the story.
