“By far my favorite mafia series!” –USA Today bestselling author SE RoseStuck in an elevator with the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen—Who thought that kind of thing actually happened? This man wasn’t just attractive; he was animal magnetism personified. He was every crush and craving—each desire and fantasy—all rolled into one. The problem? There was something sinister lurking beneath that …
There was something sinister lurking beneath that tempting façade.
Something dark and ruthless.
Luca Romano locked his sights on me the moment those elevator doors closed.
I couldn’t escape him, no matter how hard I tried.
There was a mutinous side of me that didn’t want to run.
As if I ever had a choice…

I enjoyed this mafia themed story. It took me awhile to finish but it was worth the weight. I liked how Luca manipulated a lot of things in the story. I was super surprised with the ending. I would like to read more about the five families.
Sexy and mysterious, the hero in this book runs the show. From the moment Alessia lays eyes on Luca, he commands all of her attention – and that’s exactly the way he wants it. The author lets his motives unravel slowly throughout the book, leaving the reader in a state of unease about what he wants from her. The writing is solid and the story moves quickly, though I could never truly come to love either character.
The story follows Alessia, a young woman working her way up the family business. She’s strong in some ways and weak in others – for example, she’s proving her worth at work, but can’t seem to bring herself to do anything about her boss’s unwanted advances. It’s this contradictory personality that catches Luca’s attention when they meet; he’s a strong and powerful man who likes a woman who isn’t a total pushover, but knows when to submit. After their initial meeting, Luca begins pursuing Alessia relentlessly, but we know it’s not just because he’s attracted to her – there’s more lurking beneath the surface with this man.
I enjoyed the author’s writing style quite a bit; the pages move quickly and it’s easy to get lost in the story. I would’ve liked more interaction in their initial elevator meeting; if I had felt the chemistry sizzle between them more before learning more about Luca, I think I would’ve connected more strongly to him. In the end, I liked both characters to a certain extent but had issues with them both – Luca really does love how submissive Alessia is, and she comes off as naive and weak at times. It didn’t always feel like a partnership because he commands the room. That being said, it’s an interesting and sexy book. Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC. That cover really hooked me and I enjoyed reading this new-to-me author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first book read by Jill Ramsower. I am impressed with her style of writing. I enjoyed this story. I have been on a mafia romance kick lately and Forever Lies helped feed that this past week. This story has twists, lies, and betrayal. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to finish.
The main characters are Alessia and Luca and their romance is hot hot hot! You are going to love these characters as much as I did. Luca is sexy, smoldering, confident, and commanding. As soon as Alessia lays her eyes on Luca she is hooked into magnetism and she can’t let go no matter how much she believes she should.
Forever Lies is a wonderful mafia romance. Jill Ramsower did both mafia and romance the justice they deserve. Forever Lies is now available.
So… I guess, I’m in the minority here.
I love mafia romance and the blurb, in all honesty, is what got me interested. But unfortunately, this one just didn’t do it for me.
At around 30%, I felt like I had been reading and reading and reading but I wasn’t making any progress.
There were repetitions and a little too much of the inner monologue and 2017 Rohina (and the years before that) loved this style of writing. 2019 Rohina, while she does still loves it in some stories and finds it interesting, especially in fantasy books and in contemporary romance too, when it helps the storyline to move forward.
After the 50% mark, even though I could see myself finishing the book, I wasn’t too enthusiastic. I, in general, had a hard time connecting to the characters.
The female lead, Alessia, was quiet and a suffer-in-silence type and I genuinely do like these type of characters but in Alessia’s case, she was practically a doormat.
For example, her boss had been harassing for her a year and she didn’t, even once, go to HR and complain about it. She would always leave it to tomorrow.
The male lead, Luca, came across as a pushover. Listen, I love a good alpha male but when they start ordering about how they should be acting or reacting and throw ultimatums, it bugs me. The lack of breathing space Luca gave Alessia gnawed at me.
Is it a good book? Sure with the added sense of mystery, which certainly left me wanting to know what happens next. However, largely due to my disconnect with the characters and the storyline, I just couldn’t like the book.
2.5 Stars!
This is a Mafia Romance so addictive I couldn’t put the book down; I had to finish it in one sitting!
Alessia, a main character, is from an affluent family. I immediately loved her hard working and humble character. Her only goal is obtaining Father’s approval by working in the family business – starting at the bottom and working her way up.
Luca, the other main character, is the bad boy. He grew up running the streets. Luca knows what he wants and he’s going to take it. He is a sexy and confident self-made man.
Luca and Alessia’s worlds collide and prove the law of magnetism – opposites definitely attract! The angst and sexual tension is palpable!
Luca turns Alessia’s world upside down with mystery and twists and the reader is along for the intense ride. I loved this book. Luca is incredibly captivating. The story has twists and turns with forbidden lust, deceit, conflicting loyalties, and so much more. It is a must read! And now, for me, a must reread!

Sensational story that will tempt and tease! Jill Ramsower is a new-to-me author and she has done an incredible job of entertaining me with Alessia and Luca’s story. I love how they meet…there’s just something so intimate about elevators. If you love hot alpha males, you’re going to love Luca!
Forever Lies is the first book in The Five Families Series by Jill Ramsower and is a MUST read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
I was bless to be introduced to jill. I love reading this mafia saga. You can tell it is from the heart with loyalty and meaning. Luca and Alessia love of staying together or letting go. Awesome read without a doubt.
4.4 stars
What a pleasant surprise. I live for Mafia books. There is just something about them that draws me in. Even with the criminal underbelly that they often represent there is something about that shows the other side of loyalty and family as well. This author managed to do that well. I was surprised that this was her first foray into this sub-genre of romance. I never would have guessed from this book.
The characters were done very well and the attention to detail was exceptionally well thought out. My only complaint with the event that happened to Alessia. It seemed so much worse than it was but was then glossed over as not being that bad. I expected things to come out of that. The ending also bothered me a little bit too. Not because it was a HFN but there is still a loose end out there and I am left wondering how that will affect the next story. Will it continue from Luca and Lessia or will it be a different family of the Five Families that will still have that unfinished business carry over.
First time reading this author but she had me with the blurb. I am very pleased to discover a new author to add to my watch list.
