This is such a good book. It’s the best Regency novel I’ve ever read!
Kristen Malone, Historical Romance Writer
This story is fantastic! Will leave you wishing you had your own portal to another time. I was completely enthralled. Highly recommend.

I would read anything Linore Rose Burkard writes.. It takes a great author to write so well in multiple genres, and this regency time travel is a great addition to Linore’s other works, including a Christian Regency series and her heart stopping dystopian trilogy. This is an author you don’t want to miss!

Thank you so much for this wonderful story. I love a Happily-ever-after story and this gave me a romance and a happy ending – I have a smile on my face!

Research, research, research! Ms. Burkard shows her diligence. (while) plot twists will keep the reader turning pages.
Peggy Ellis, Writer, Reviewer
With eccentric characters, well-defined period details (have you been to 1816, Ms Burkard?), and a rollicking plot, Linore Rose Burkard takes us on a fast-paced, unpredictable journey that leaves the reader breathless until the very end.
Janice Dick, Author, Calm Before the Storm
Loved this book! The unpredictability of it made me giggle in places. …Great characterization and descriptions, creating a vivid picture., and the pressures in each time period created lasting suspense. A really good read.
Fiona Rowe, Reader
I loved this book!It has romance, magic, mystery, and time travel all rolled into one delightful story that will keep you turning the page.
Jody Blair, Reader
I loved it! I am not usually a fan of historical romance, and so I was initially drawn to this book because of the time travel element. So while I came for the time travel, I also found myself gripped by the romance! I felt like I was there with (the characters)! I recommend it to science fiction and romance readers alike!
Tommy-Lee Sexton, Reader
A delicious romp through time that will keep you on the edge of your seat! This was such a fun read. A hilarious mix (that) doesn’t hit the brakes until the final page!

Move over, Poldark! Julian St. John is our new English heartthrob! Okay, I know I’m mixing historical periods, but who cares as long as we’re having fun? And the fun is on with Burkard’s cast of mismatched, mischievous characters. Besides St. John, we have Claire, a modern-day Regency Romance novelist who’s trying to make a comeback.
Complication 1: These two potential lovebirds have the problem of being separated by a couple of centuries. Then there’s Claire’s mysterious missing grandmother, in whose cottage Claire is working feverishly on her Regency novel.
Complication 2: The clock is ticking until developers, one of whom is sweet on Claire, raze the cottage in Grandmother’s absence. There’s also a mysteriously mystical shawl Grandmother left behind….
Burkard really brings it with humor, lively action, and a supporting cast that remind me of the classic Rom Coms of Doris Day and Katharine Hepburn. Everyone is going every which way to get what they want, and readers find themselves cheering and booing with every turn of the page. It’s good, clean fun.
I highly recommend this read. Whether you’re a fan of romance novels or time-travel novels – or neither – you’re bound to enjoy the ride!
Have you ever just wanted to stay in whatever book that you’re reading at the time?
I have and this one is no exception.
This author has delivered such a story for me.
I do have a question for the author;
Linore have you ever felt like Claire getting to really pop in and out of the book you’re writing at the time? How exciting that would be!! Although I think I’d feel confused at first like Claire did.
I am like Claire at times too. There’s just something about a place that has it’s own charm. Mackinac Island Michigan does that for me just like Claire’s cottage did for her.
I think I’d probably be the opposite of Clarissa however; I be delighted to discover a sweet secret!! I could never be as mean as Clarrisa was.
I love time travel books and this one was no exception. I didn’t want to come back.
I really wish I could stay like another reader said. One problem! I’d miss my air conditioning and diet dew!!
Sir Julian is an interesting character. I loved getting to know him. I think that the author has described him perfectly. A little grey in the hair just makes it swoon worthy.
I find Margaret a fascinating character! I found her personality just a little like mine.
I kind of wished I was skinny like her though.
I’d too make a beeline for the wall at any social events just I could observe the people around me.
You see, my grandma taught me to observe people while they’re not aware of it. Their actions tells a lot about them.
My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. NO compensations were received. All opinions are my own!
Forever Lately by Linore Rose Burkard is an unusual time-travel romance.
“It is difficult, when faced with a situation you cannot control, to admit you can do nothing. “ Lemony Snicket; “You need to be a little bit crazy. Crazy is the price you pay for having an imagination.” Ruth Ozeki; “ When you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worthwhile.” Lucy Maud Montgomery. These are some of the quotes that begin each chapter in this fantasy story. They are thought provoking and a real hoot! The chapters vary in length which makes for more enjoyable pacing.
The cover piqued my interest with its pretty silhouette of figures in Regency garb. I have always been fascinated by time travel books and movies.
For Maine author, Claire Channing, the characters in the book she is writing just won’t behave! Especially when she finds herself in a ballroom, in period clothes, in England, in 1816!
This was a sometimes funny, sometimes serious but always entertaining glimpse into Regency England through the eyes of a 21st Century woman. Thrown back in time, Claire tries to cope and make sense of things when she falls in love with Julian St. John. Funnier still is when Julian tries to figure out modern day conveniences on his trip to the future. Which era will they end up in? How will they solve this conundrum?
This story had me quickly turning pages to see how the well-drawn characters would respond the to danger confronting them. Ms. Burkard has taken a unique premise and further tuned it on its head.
Wonderful story that seemed perfectly logical to me!
A few things were concerning to me:
Not much talk about God but there was a quote from psalms and a few references to Julian finding God and reforming.
A few descriptions of low necklines and some kissing scenes that didn’t go too far. Some may find it a touch too much.
I would call it clean but not overtly Christian.

“That was the plan, the outline she’d labored over for this new book which she called Forever, Lately. Later, when it all fell apart, Claire would wonder how she’d stumbled upon real people to inhabit her story. If she’d known they were real, she might have known, too, that they wouldn’t ever do as she planned.”
“Note to self: If characters are going to change from what the writer envisioned, they must do so early on in the writing.”
Right off the bat as soon as I read these lines, I KNEW this was going to be a fun read! How many times have I heard authors say this very thing, that their characters simply won’t cooperate? As if they completely took over the story & ripped it out of the writer’s hand, lol! I’ve never read time travel novels but I absolutely adore Regency fiction so I figured the combination of the two would be delightful. This was so much more than I expected, in a good way, and all the plot twists keep me wondering where Burkard would take me next. I fell hard for Julian St. John at first glance and was quite jealous that Claire stole his interest. But at the same time, I loved watching from the sidelines the interactions between author and characters. It was a very interesting perspective! There were quite a few places where I couldn’t help but laugh and quite a few that I wanted to tell Miss Clarissa Andrews off. She was no lady, at least not a respectable one the way she prowled around St John trying to manipulate his affections. The whole idea of time traveling to & living in the Regency era was intriguing; one I wished could happen for real because I’d be the first to sign up! This was a delightful adventure all around and would satisfy the heart of any Regency era fiction fan. Linore Burkard is one to keep my eye out for; she quickly became a favorite of mine! I have since added her to my list of must-read Regency authors.

Forever, lately
I loved the time traveling in this book, it was so much fun to read.
Clarissa goes back to England in 1816 and meets Julian St. John. Then he ends up coming forward in time to Maine. He has so much fun learning new things.
I recommend reading this book. If you have read time travel before you will love it and if you have not you will love it. I wish time travel was real. It would be so much fun to do.
The author is new to me, I am so glad I got introduced to her. I plan to read more of her books.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
This has been such a wonderful time slip story that I refused to put it down until I finished it. The author has done such an outstanding job of writing a story that slips back and forth in time without missing a beat. The time period is very intriguing as we go back to England in 1816. I enjoyed reading about the history of this time period.
What I loved most about this book was the creative way the author told a story. Authors do research when they are writing a book to make it as authentic to the time period as possible. What if an author could time travel to the period they were writing about? Better yet, what if they became part of the story and saw the characters in person from the book they were writing? This is exactly what happens in this fairy tale, time travel story.
Claire is beside herself trying to write a book that someone will publish. She is a very determined young woman who hasn’t really felt like she fit in. The cottage she is living in is in danger of being torn down and she desperately wants to save it. We do get a glimpse of what her relationship was like with her mother which helped me understand how difficult it was to be confidant at times.
The author takes us back in time where we meet the dashing Julian St. John. What a catch he is and someone has their eyes on him. I loved the mystery that followed Julian and the woman who will stop at nothing to have him. I could see Claire as she came face to face with Julian. What a shock for her to meet the character she is writing about in a time slip story that has all the elements of a great movie.
There are some surprises in the story that shocked me and I became so involved in the story that I tuned out the world around me. It was worth it as I continued to read how Claire slips from one time period to the present. The story is very easy to follow and gives us a lesson in following your heart.
I received an arc copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read a few time travel stories, but never one set during the Regency Era. I thought this was a very creative and original idea. I think I have a crush on the hero Julian St. John. He is a man of true character and integrity. “Despite her confusion, she notices St. John’s waistcoat wasn’t scarlet and silver threaded as she’d written it, but black with gold thread, visible beneath a lovely white cravat and the lapels of a twin-tailed topcoat. He wore beautifully fitted trousers, and-. Suddenly he squinted toward her. Their eyes locked, sending an electric current through her whole body. She was caught in his gaze like an embrace, captured by eyes that were curious, yet almost forbidding. He was seeing her!” This is a sweet romance with just a little kissing in it. I hope Burkard writes more time travel romances.
My Thoughts on Forever, Lately:
What a fun book! I’ve never read anything by Linore Burkard before but this was amazing. I’m definitely hooked on her Regency romances and going to have to see if she has anymore.
This book is so fun. You’re in a story but don’t know you’re in a story until you find out the story is being written. And then you’re in present-day but there are so many things going wrong in present-day that going back to writing the story is great. Except then you’re in the story and you know you’re in the story and that’s a bit disconcerting.
Did you follow all that? If not go get a copy of the book and start reading. I’ll wait. Or maybe not because it was so good I’d like to keep talking about it.
I immediately fell in love with our author Claire. She’s a bit down on her luck as her last few books haven’t gone over so well. And then there’s the whole her grandmother is missing and her cabin is threatened by unscrupulous people. Add in that Claire is living in that said grandmother’s cabin and can’t find the deed proving they own the cabin.
This story has lots of twists and turns and several different plots and subplots. Love it!
You do need to have a few brain cells left to read and understand this story so don’t read it when you’re in the mood for just a feel-good romance. While it does have romance it also has intrigue and suspense and some mystery to it. Plus you’ve got story versus the real-life and it can get jumbled if you’re not on top of your reading game.
Highly recommend this read. Definitely one I would add to your to be read pile or your GoodReads wish list. The cover is gorgeous as well!

This is a very well written book that hooks you on the first page. I loved how smoothly the author switched from one time to the other. This is a clean fun read that I think everybody would enjoy. I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This time travel romance was a winner for me. The book is set both in 1816 Regency-era England and in 2020 modern era America. The story has a cast of delightful characters, and even a couple to dislike, who are well developed and realistic. The author’s extensive research and excellent writing style created such a plausible story that I slipped in and out of the time-periods seamlessly. For the most part, I did not see the twists and turns coming in the storyline. My favorite part was how the author depicted both Julian and Claire when they were transported to a different era.

Blast from the past!
Have you ever thought that you were born in the wrong era? How would you feel if you were suddenly transported back to a time when modern conveniences didn’t exist yet, where men were ‘gents’ and women were ‘ladies’? This is exactly what happened to Claire Channing. Being an author, she had a vivid imagination, so when she found herself in the past, facing characters from the very book she was penning, she naturally assumed that she was only imagining it all. But was she?
This is a ‘time-travel’ story, that will leave you wishing you had your own portal to another time. A real page-turner, this tale will have you completely enthralled. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read stories dealing with being ‘out of time’. You will not be disappointed.
‘There are people who think that things that happen in fiction do not really happen.
They are wrong.’ – Neil Gaiman
Claire Channing is an aspiring author that loves to write about Regency England. So naturally the manuscript she is working on is set in 1816. This book is going to be the one that makes her famous! Living in her missing grandmother’s cottage, she has found the perfect place to research, dream and pen the novel that would reach the top of the charts. That is until something totally unexpected happens.
Imagine how easy research would be if you could just transport yourself into that time period. The author has given us incredible detail of the gowns, the setting and even the food. One has to wonder if time travel is part of her life… What a fun book to read! I found myself on the edge of my seat, cheering them on, believing in the perfect ending.
I received this ARC through CelebrateLit. The five star rating was in no way solicited and all impressions and opinions are my own.
Something about time travel draws me in every time. This one is extra fun with unique twists in the present and the past. Clever portals allow the characters to enter the worlds of 1816 England and present day Maine. Oh, about the ending! Well, I can’t tell you that except I Loved it. Bravo, Linore Burkard.
Fun and lighthearted!
Forever, Lately tells the story of Claire a Regency Romance writer who gets involved in the lives of her characters or so she thinks. She goes back to 1816 in an unexpected way to only find more surprises that may change her life.
It’s the first time I’ve read a time-traveling novel and let me tell you this was a fun, easy-to-read and lighthearted story. The main characters, Claire and Julian St. John, are amusing and sometimes even relatable. Their romance is sweet and honest but a bit too modern for a regency for me. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it.
I really liked the way Burkard cared for details, which are crucial in a time-traveling novel. She shows you the picture so clearly, that it feels like you’re watching a movie!
The plot is interesting and even though sometimes it feels predictable, it has some fun and unexpected twists that engage you to keep reading.
If you are into regency romances books, this has to be in your library. You’re going to enjoy it!
Forever, Lately is a fun time travel romance! It’s unique and charming.
Recommend to readers who enjoy clean time travel novels.
I borrowed a copy from Kindle Unlimited. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This was the best time travel I have read in a long time. Characters well drawn, funny situations,. Drama. Well done
I’ve read a couple of very popular time travel books (The Time Traveler’s Wife and Jude Devereaux’s A Knight in Shining Armor). So when Forever, Lately came to my attention, I figured I’d give it a try, especially since I’m a Regency romance fan. And, let me tell you, this one is enchanting.
This book is so clever. From who Claire is transported to her struggles and challenges in both eras. The fact she’s an author who is excited to use her first-hand knowledge of regency is also a fantastic plot device. Plus, she’s so enjoyable inquisitive when in 1816.
And Julian St. John. Talk about a swoon-worthy hero. I loved some of the humor written around St. John in the second half of the book.
Burkard throws some delicious twists and turns into this one, making it even better. Whether or not you’re a fan of the time travel genre, the characters and romance in this one are worth the read.

WOW! I totally loved this book! I couldn’t put it down!
I have to say that Time Travel is not my number one genre (I always feel it’s impossible it’ll have a good ending), but after reading Linore’s Regency Trilogy, which I truly loved, I knew I had to read this. And I have to say it has changed my way of viewing this genre!
Of course, there’s the magical part of time traveling, but other than that, the story feels true, realistic and totally relatable.
I loved Claire’s character! I felt a kind of kindred connection. I’m not an author, but I’m an avid reader of Regency Romance, and I’ve always been told my physical appearance reminds people of another era. As if I could fit perfectly in the 1800’s or even medieval era. Anyway, Claire is at odds in her life: her grandmother has been mysteriously missing for a year, and she goes to her abandoned cottage, seeking a refuge to write her desperate needed bestseller to boost her failing career, she discovers a local resort baron wants to buy the land to expand his ski resort. Her grandmother has disappeared, she doesn’t have the deed, and she doesn’t know what to do….
Meanwhile, she’s writing her Regency Romance, the main character, Julian St. John, who must find a wife, but he knows he shouldn’t surrender to Clarissa Andrews wiles. She’s beautiful, flirtatious, but vexatious, determined to pursue him and dangerous.
Then, Claire discovers her grandmother’s old prayer shawl and she suddenly finds herself in the Regency era, in non other that her character’s setting. St. John is just as she imagined him, but he’s not real, how can he be?
But the situation she’s living seems as real as her life in Maine. She wishes she could take a picture, something to prove what is happening, she’s so astonished. And worst of all, she never expects to fall in love for her own written hero character, who is not doing what she had planned him to do!! And there’s Clarissa who will stop at nothing to make St. John is hers.
And wow!! Julian St. John was truly my hero, I just fell in love with him, just as Claire did!! Sigh!
This was a page-turner story that kept me totally captivated. The navigation through two centuries period of time was done in such a way that it felt almost real. I love Linore’s style of writing, and especially the deepness of her characters. They are never shallow, they are so full of life, flawed, yet kind and compassionate. I also had fun reading this book. Loved the banter between Claire and St. John. And some scenes made me laugh out loud!
There’s lot’s of mix-ups, intrigue, humor and the romance was oh so sweet!
I truly recommend this time travel romance. If this is not your genre, you should try it and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! I throughly enjoyed this novel and would like to read more of this genre. At least from Linore! But know I know I can try other authors too!
A delicious romp through time that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
This was such a fun read. The plot moved quickly to the expected time-travel and then didn’t stop! A hilarious mix of back-and-forth, misunderstandings, some people knowing too much and others not believing enough, all combine into one nail-biting experience that doesn’t hit the brakes until the final pages. St. John insists he was “born for speed” so reader, be ready!
Some mature themes were alluded to, or briefly mentioned, but handled with care. I wished that more time could be spent on deepening our relationship with the characters, but the high speed pace of the story (and the impending deadline) make a quick, light-and-fluffy, “you just know” kind of romance more realistic.
Make sure you have time off when this book finally lands in your hands – you’re going to want some uninterrupted reading time!
