Didn’t Like the Couple
Unfortunately, this book just did not do it for me. Even though the author attempted to make both of the characters sympathetic, him with PTSD and her nursing a broken heart for 10 years, I just didn’t like either of them. They didn’t seem to act like adults, especially toward each other. They hide (literally physically), they don’t communicate, they lash out at each other, they keep secrets, etc. He was far too arrogant, especially considering what he did to her. And she was very weak, which I never like to see in a romantic heroine. Too bad, as I really enjoyed the prequel to this book and had been looking forward to the series. Perhaps the next one will be better.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read!
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
Dawson Hart has returned home on a medical discharge after his years in the Marine Corps. Although the town is delighted and welcoming, Piper, the woman he loves, wants nothing to do with him. When he signed up for the military without telling her, thinking he was providing a stable foundation for their future, she saw it instead as betrayal, using her and rejecting a future with her. Will she ever give him a chance to explain why he enlisted the way he did? Or will she continue to hide herself away from him and pretend he doesn’t matter? Both of these two have their own insecurities and both thinking they are not worth being loved with their imperfections, neither is willing to trust in their love and tell the other what is really going on in their head.

You’re my forever heart!
Well damn… These two had me in knots all the way through! I absolutely adored Dawson and Piper’s story. My heart broke on several occasions for these two. With Piper’s heartache over Dawson leaving all those years ago and his PTSD, it gave me all the feels. I was rooting for them to get back together and the journey was absolutely worth it!
Dawson and Piper are forever hearts and they so deserved their happy ending and yes, I was definitely swooning over it all!
*I received an advanced copy of the book. This is my honest opinion given freely.
The first book in the Harts of Idaho series after reading the Prequel Novella I did not think this series could get better. Am I glad I was wrong this story kept me turning pages. This is a second chance for a wounded Marine Dawson Hart who returns home to Idaho, and the woman he left behind Piper Rose Lawrence who wants nothing to do with him. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this emotional conflicting book with Piper and Dawson. He broke both their hearts ten years ago when he joined the Marines without telling her and the future they had planned shattered. This was hard seeing the heartbreak they both went through with his leaving her and then his return suffering from PTSD.
I loved the prequel, Conflicted Hearts; it set up the background so well that I knew I’d fall in love with the series. This first book is wonderful. Dawson’s been gone for 10 years in the Marines, but he’s out now on a medical discharge. Piper’s been mad at him since he left and broke her heart. He intends to win her back, if he can figure out how to get her to forgive him. They both see themselves as damaged and broken, and not worthy of love with the other. The author touches on his PTSD, and the shame that’s sometimes associated with it, and does so in a caring and compassionate way. I think that Piper’s friends and family, and the townspeople in general, did her a huge disservice by keeping secrets about Dawson from her. When she finally realized what was going on, it made her feel even worse. They have a very bumpy road to get to their happy forever, but it ends with a sweet epilogue. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Dawson broke Piper’s heart when he left for the Marines 10 years ago and she pushed aside his attempts at apologies and has been walking away from him ever since. She’s still angry and pushing him away at the beginning of the book and even when they finally get back together. And then he pushes her away. There was a lot of drama and back and forth in this book. They should have opened up and talked more instead of keeping secrets and walking away from each other when things get hard. Dawson was a bit too judgmental and angry at times. He wouldn’t accept that he needed to get help for his PTSD. Piper kept treating herself like crap and drinking too much. I liked her friends and his brothers and sister and I’m looking forward to their romances in future books.
Elle writes a sweet yet dramatic story. It has great character development and the world building was on point. I enjoyed this read and ambulated through it. It was a great read. I had my tissues ready and I used them. It is dramatic and provides all the feels. Really good and I recommend this story.
