A riveting tale of
unfathomable success
great joy
deep pain, and
redemption that can come only from above.
From a working-class background in North Carolina to a job as a cook and club singer in Nashville to his “overnight success” with his smash 1986 album Storms of Life–which launched the neotraditional movement in country music–Randy’s first three decades are a true rags-to-riches … music–Randy’s first three decades are a true rags-to-riches story. But in 2009, this seemingly charmed life began a downward spiral. His marriage dissolved, he discovered that his finances had unraveled, and his struggles with anger led to alcohol abuse, public embarrassment, and even police arrest in 2012.
Then, just as he was putting his life back together, Randy suffered a devastating viral cardiomyopathy that led to a massive stroke which he was not expected to survive. Yet he not only survived but also learned to walk again and, in 2016, accepted his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame by singing the hymn that explains his life today: “Amazing Grace.”
Filled with never-before-told stories, Forever and Ever, Amen is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at dizzying success and the miraculous road to restoration.

This book was everything I hoped it would be. It tells Travis’ story, the good, the bad and the heartbreaking.
Loved learning how Randy turned his life around and what he had to go through.
In this book, Randy shares his soul. He beat great odds by surviving and gives all the credit to his wife and God.
An interesting, sometimes painful, but inspirational autobiography by Randy Travis. Recommended!
A good look inside the career of a great country singer.
Some interesting details about Randy’s life, but the majority of the book seemed to be a litany of his shows and the people he knew.
Great look into Randy Travis music and his life.
I knew next to nothing about Randy Travis when I started the book, but now I feel like I know a little about makes Randy tick. Waiting for him to be able to write the sequel describing how he got well enough to go on tour again.
I usually don’t like to read biographies but Randy Travis has had an interesting and busy life and I enjoyed reading about his life. The ups and downs. The failures and successes. He shared a lot of details of his family life and career. He was acquainted with a lot of the music artists and friends to many of them. If you like biographies.. you will like this one. It’s full of details of the personal and not so personal kind. A little to detailed for me, it was easy to put down but when I finished it I was glad I had. Interesting life he’s had!
Randy Travis is one of America’s most loved country music singer/song writers. The story of his life from his difficult childhood in North Carolina to his battle with drugs and alcohol, to his successful music career, to his near death experience after suffering a stroke kept me alternately laughing and crying. His strong faith helped him to fight back from the severe stroke after doctors had given Mary, his wife, no hope. You don’t have to be a country music fan to read and enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.
I received a copy of Forever and Ever, Amen from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
A wonderful book that fans of Randy Travis will definitely enjoy. He is one of my favorite country singers and I really learned a lot about his life from reading this.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Warm and Honest Autobiography
I am a Randy Travis fan and have been since the beginnings of his career. It is so refreshing to have a celebrity write an autobiography and present a clear picture of himself, warts and all. This book is a lot more candid than I expected. He takes us through his rough start in life, though the highs and lows and ends up giving us a clear picture of the man. He celebrates all of the stars who have helped him and does not embellish those who have done him wrong. He keeps that to the facts. He also doesn’t blame others for his shortcomings. This is an interesting look at the country music business as well as the country music icon. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
Being a Randy Travis fan I jumped at the chance to read this book (lent to me by my cousin). My emotions ran the gamut. As I read his book I went from sad, to happy, to horrified, to so sad for his loss of health. But through it all his great will to live and fight through, even now, to heal completely and his return to a full and growing faith in God, was so overwhelmingly inspiring.
I haven’t gotten to read it yet. I didn’t have the money to buy it.
