With each installment of her Montana Marshalls series Susan May Warren seems to raise the action and suspense another notch. Ford is even more riveting than the previous books of this series and that is saying a lot. It seems that each of the Marshall brothers has chosen careers attempting to keep up with examples set by at least one of their brothers and perhaps to meet their perceived expectations of their father. So it comes as no surprise that Navy Seal Ford thinks he has a lot to live up to and his twin sister RJ may have fallen into the same mindset. Of course Ford still believes that he is responsible for RJ and when he learns that she is in trouble in Russia, he recruits his friend Scarlett and takes off across the world to rescue RJ.
Ford is pretty much nonstop action from beginning to end with danger around every corner. Each of the main characters has issues they are struggling with in the midst of just trying to stay alive long enough to get RJ out of the country. The author introduces a surprise or two along the way as well as laying some groundwork for Garrett and RJ’s own stories. This book was a true page-turner in every sense of the word. I encourage readers to pick up a copy but highly recommend that they begin reading with book one to get the whole story.

“He used to say that he didn’t show up where God hadn’t gone first. That he didn’t worry about fixing anything – that God already had it figured out. He was just following orders.”
Oh, my. How does Susan May Warren’s books get better and better as the series unfolds? Wait… did I say this about Tate after reading it?!?!
Well, somehow the series does keep getting better and this book 3 in The Montana Marshalls series will totally wrap itself around your heart and mind, even after having loved and cherished Knox and Tate. I was not expecting an adrenaline-filled, action-packed, complex international suspense thriller when I picked up Ford (though I knew it would take place mostly in Russia) and was absolutely delighted as the plot picked up pace and rolled at bullet-train speed. As always, the writing is clever and emotional with great dialogue and banter, the characters are beautifully flawed and intensely lovable, the romance is totally swoony (and we get quite a few couples in the book by this point in the series), and the faith element is spot-on.
Ford, our Navy SEAL hero, traverses the world to find his twin sister who’s been framed as an assassin in Russia. He’s got a haunting demon from the past that drives his reckless and impulsive need to prove himself and he prefers to be the lone wolf, depending on his skills and strengths. Scarlett is his teammate whose terribly broken past prevents her from really loving and being loved….and tragedies of the present suffocate her even more. Despite their brokenness, Ford and Scarlett combine their bravery, strength, resourcefulness, and intelligence to find his sister RJ in the vast Russian underworld. Add to this great plot RJ’s flight and romance through Russia with a mysterious protector named York and a little taste of Wyatt, and the book will have your heart pounding from the spectrum of emotions and head spinning from the intricate threads in the overarching plot coming together. And the plot twists! There are enough of those to cause a twister throughout the story. And through so many near-death incidents, Ford realizes God’s power and gives Him the glory and control as Scarlett slowly de-ices her heart to hear God’s calling.
And now it’s “hurry up and wait” time for Wyatt (book 4) and Ruby Jane (book 5) to release! Oh, the anticipation!!
I received a copy of the book from the author/publisher via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comment and opinions are solely my own.
I think I’ve said this before, but with this latest book by Susan May Warren, it really needs to be said again. WOW oh WOW!
I wonder if I was ever a character in one of Susan May Warren’s books I might not survive. Her characters all go through so much, yet, they come out at the end of the story having learned so much. The cool thing is, as a reader, so do we!
The lessons each of her characters learn are lessons we can all understand and learn to apply to our lives too. I have found, anytime I pick up a book written by Susan May Warren I will receive many life lessons. She has a beautiful way of speaking truth to our souls through her words. That we have a God who is bigger than we can ever imagine, and He is there. He is our rescuer. He will not leave us, because He loves us. Not because we earn it or deserve it, but because we are His and that’s enough.
One of the issues the characters in this book are dealing with is the desire to belong. Whether it’s in a family, or what they do as work. They seem to struggle with their purpose and place in life. Then life throws them in a tailspin when they try to make it all right.
Ford Marshall is from a big family where there is constant competition to “one-up” the members. He’s never felt he made the mark, even though he’s a Navy SEAL.
Scarlett Hathaway has lived her whole life trying to just survive, now her mother dies and she needs to care for her little brother. She really doesn’t know what her future will be.
These two find themselves on a mission to save Ford’s twin sister who happens to be in Russia.
In this story, there is non-stop action, romance, drama, running for their lives, kidnapping attempts, shootings, Oh! And the part I really couldn’t survive is the water. I feel so sorry for these characters and what the author puts them through. She does it all in a way which will keep you stuck to your chair, not wanting to put the book down!
I am totally enjoying getting to know this whole Marshall family. I wish I could meet this very larger than life family from Montana. I think I’d love to have them as friends.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’m at a loss to have words eloquent enough to convey the depth of emotions and feelings I get each time I pick up one of Susan May Warrens’ books.
Whatever Ms. Warren writes I’ll read because I know I’ll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
My Review of Ford by Susan May Warren:
I’ve previously enjoyed Warren’s suspense books and the romance in each (though the focus on the guy/girl’s looks to the girl/guy are highly annoying and extremely sickening.). The characters were so intriguing, diverse, and SWEET, I just loved the characters so much especially a guy who I shall not name (though he isn’t a Marshall.) and he was so caring but also gruff.
I do not recommend that you read this book first in the series as I did . . . Lots and lots of spoilers. Opening this book was like stepping into a SEAL movie, yes, there were some things that weren’t too realistic.
Rating: 3 and 1/2 stars rounded up to 4 stars. If there wasn’t so much focus on the main characters muscles I would have given 5 stars – the book is THAT good.
Recommendation: 17/19 up for romance and some slight violence… Just slight violence. 😉
Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (King James Version.)
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Oh, after the second book, this is the story I most desperately wanted to know more about! Not Ford, necessaryily, but thankfully Susan Warren dives into more of Ruby Jane’s story and what happened to get her into so much trouble. Of course, her twin and rescuer brother had to get involved, which of course dragged Scarlett into the mix. Such an action packed story, even for Susan May Warren! Of course now I can’t wait to read more about Wyatt . . . so on I proceed through this high-adventure story!
I just love the Montana Marshalls series. This book tells the story of Ford and Scarlett, both Petty Officers in the Navy. Ford, a Navy Seal, and Scarlett, the eyes and ears of his Seal Team. Ford fell for Scarlett a long time ago but too scared to do anything about it. Scarlett has been hurt her entire life and always let down. The action in this book just led from one thing to another. Ford, trying to rescue his twin sister RJ after she is accused of an assassination attempt, and now missing in Russia. Of course, he needs his eyes and ears, Scarlett, with him. Scarlett cannot refuse a man that she has liked for a long time. It was great to see them meld together to work as a team. Already have the next book in the series, Wyatt, and will be starting that one. Another awesome book by Ms. Warren.
OH!MY! I love the Marshall family. Ford is haunted by mistakes in his past. His journey to healing is one we all must take. I so appreciate the spiritual truths woven throughout this story. You don’t want to miss out on this epic adventure!
Recommend to those who enjoy inspirational, romantic suspense.
I won a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
I could not put this book down. The characters pull you into a story with so many twists and turns. Truly an amazing book.
Ford is the third book in Susan May Warren’s series the Montana Marshalls. Each installment is better than the previous and I didn’t think that could be possible. Susan creates amazing characters, perfectly flawed. The emotions conveyed, the trials and tribulations endured and the walk in faith that brings it all together perfectly is a gift this author perfects in every story.
Ford is the youngest son who tries to fill very big shoes from his father and his older brothers. Not an easy task. This Navy SEAL makes it look easy to everyone except himself.
Scarlett (Red) carries a huge bolder on her shoulders from her struggled upbringing. She does her absolute best to hide this from everyone, but Ford sees through this screen.
They both have baggage holding them back. They both feel as though they have something they need to prove. This installment of the Marshall series is filled with suspense, mystery, danger and intrigue. It is also laced with humor, love and always faith. It’s a journey that is both hard and yet very worthwhile.
Susan does not disappoint her readers, ever! I can’t wait to read Wyatt’s story. I am definitely keeping this family of books on my keeper shelf and will visit them again and again.
Great book
Love this series
Apparently, Ford was jealous of Knox and Tate getting caught in explosions. Ford decides to blow himself up… for a good cause, of course. This starts the book out with a bang, and the frenetic pace continues through to the end. What else would you expect from a Navy SEAL determined to save his twin sister?
Read my full review: https://rebeccasreadingcorner.blog/review-susan-may-warren-ford/
This book was non-stop action and drama. Ford and Scarlett had their own action in the Navy Seals team and support and then the action of trying to rescue Ford’s sister, Ruby Jane, or RJ, as she was known, as she was running from a murder charge in Russia. I had a hard time putting the book down to get anything else done and I lost a lot of sleep trying to finish the book last night.
This was more of a spy novel than I have read by this author before and I always felt like the bad guy was around every corner and ready to capture them as a they were on the run through the Russian countryside. There were other subplots being explored in this book which I am sure will be fleshed out in Wyatt and Ruby, the next books in the series.
I love how this author can write a wonderfully suspenseful, romantic, drama-filled book and have it be clean, without foul language or graphic sex as a part of the story. I haven’t read one of her books yet that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. She is probably my favorite author because she writes with so much depth and realism.
This series just keeps getting better!!! Ford is a complex character and I appreciated seeing more layers of his personality, strengths, and struggles revealed as he undertakes a personal mission to rescue his twin sister in Russia. We got to know the dynamic between him and Scarlett in the previous book, Tate, so I recommend reading the series in order for full enjoyment and understanding. They have amazing chemistry that just increases in this book. I love how they support each other and bring out the emotion in each other. They both have some internal issues to work out and as they develop their faith in God they grow closer together. The plot is non-stop and full of action and suspense as many factors come together and the characters barely stay one step ahead of the danger. A total nail-biter and I’m so excited for the next book, Wyatt!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
First of all, before reading Ford, make sure you read Knox and Tate. They have a lot of back story that is too important to miss for the rest of the series… plus, they’re just great books!
Ford is the youngest in a family of superhero brothers, and is constantly trying to measure up to the rest of them. He’s also very protective of his twin sister. When she goes to ground after being accused of an assassination attempt in Russia, it isn’t a question in his mind that he will go after her.
Scarlett’s background has made it difficult for her to rely on anyone other than herself, and she struggles with trust. All of a sudden, she finds herself needing to care for her younger brother, which changes her career plans. When Ford asks for her help on a mission to rescue his sister, she has to decide if she can handle one last mission before leaving military life, and whether she can just be Ford’s teammate.
I was excited to read Ford when I first heard about the series (hello, he’s the Navy SEAL brother!) and especially after getting to know him in Tate. While I enjoyed his story, I’m not sure it will be my favorite. In this series, Susan May Warren focuses on a primary couple, while also introducing a secondary one–while I have liked this, in this instance, it felt like the secondary couple maybe overshadowed a bit. That said, this was still a great read and hard to put down! Between the ups and downs between Ford and Scarlett, the thrilling spy-action adventure across Europe, and meeting York (all the heart eyes!) I’m not sure what I loved most!
I can’t wait to read more of the Marshalls’ stories in Wyatt! (Fingers crossed for more of York and RJ in that one!) Susan May Warren is a must-buy author for me, and, once again, I was not disappointed!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I do not want this series to end! Each installment is better then the previous, even though it seems like an impossible task! Oh my goodness, the action, the romance, the suspense, the emotions, and hot dog those swoony smooches. Phew! You probably need a fan while reading this!
As with previous books in this series, you really get two stories in one. Here we get Ford and Scarlett, and Ford twin sister RJ and York (which by the way, um hellllloooooo York!). There is never a dull moment here, as is the norm when reading a book from Susan May Warren. I’m not quite sure how she has mastered the art of writing action packed romances, but she is the queen of it!
Ford just might be my favorite brother. He’s fiercely protective, and does some crazy stuff, but when it comes to Scarlett, I just want to hit him over the head! Her too for the record. Their friendship really is sweet, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom in this story. What I enjoyed even more was their character growth. Scarlett never felt good enough, and Ford always felt like he had to prove himself. What they learn is that God will take us as we are. We don’t need confirmation from man that we are enough, or we’re doing a good job. We just need to look up.
I’m excited for a future story for RJ, but first we’ll get to see more of Wyatt (kind of see him as the underdog brother). This series has been so amazingly fun to read that I just don’t want it to stop. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this is Warren’s best work to date! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ford Marshall has been holding a flame for his co-worker Scarlett for a looong time. But he’s not just a moment guy and she is not a long-term kind of girl. But maybe one last mission will be enough for Ford to convince Scarlett fear is not the place to live, and there are different ways to live for the moment.
That is, he might be able to convince her if they survive the mission of finding and rescuing his twin sister in Russia.
Have you ever read a Susan May Warren book? If yes, then you know you forget to breathe as action starts in the first pages, mystery builds up pretty quickly and questions just gain urgency to be answered.
If no, hope I’ve convinced you to pick one of her books up
I also enjoy how we get to know Ruby Jane much more (is it November, yet?). Not the tension already built for Wyatt and Coco’s story (urgh – is it October, yet?).
Staying up until the wee hours of the morning, only to wake up two hours before the alarm is set to go off, in order to finish Susan May Warren’s latest release Ford, book three of The Marshalls series, is worth the yawns and sleepiness of the new day. Susan May Warren takes the reader to Russia, a country in which she and her hubby served as missionaries, for a heart stopping race against getting his sister out of the country before it’s too late.
When Navy Seal Ford Marshall learns his sister Ruby Jane, RJ, is trapped in Russia after being accused of accused of an international incident which seemingly has all the 3-letter agencies seeking to find her, he can only do one thing…go get her. Tapping the red-haired beauty, Scarlett Hathaway, the communications operator for Ford’s Seal team, to accompany him, Ford soon finds himself in a high stakes race to get himself and both women out of Russia before they all end up dead.
Following the death of her mother, Scarlett finds herself contemplating leaving the Navy in order to provide a home for her little brother, an especially difficult choice as she has just been accepted into the Navy rescue swimmer’s training program. Heart torn, between caring for a brother who, like Scarlett, has not known the stability of a good home because of their mother’s addictions and poor choices and her dreams for her future, Scarlett is pushed to the limits of her endurance in Russia and with recognizing she is in love with Ford.
Trust is a huge issue for Scarlett while believing he can save the world, Ford struggles with his own recognition of being in love with Scarlett. In order to save the women he loves, his sister and Scarlett, Ford will have to go to extreme measures to get them all out safely; a tough call on its own complicated by his deep emotional attachment to the focus of the entire operation.
It is Ford’s most challenging rescue of his life, can he succeed?
I highly recommend Ford by Susan May Warren. I’ve already pre-ordered the next in the series, Wyatt. What an awesome adventure The Marshall series has been thus far.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Just Read Tours and am not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions therein are solely my own, and freely given.
I have read Knox (book 1) and Tate (book 2) from this series and LOVED them so I was really excited to read about another Marshall brother-Ford! Although this is a series, the books can be read as stand alone books. I prefer to read them in order though for character development.
This story mostly focuses on Ford and his sister Ruby Jane (RJ). Other characters from the previous books are also mentioned throughout since they are family members. Ford travels to Russia with his friend Scarlett to find his missing twin sister RJ after he’s convinced she’s gone missing from a secret covert operation gone bad.
I loved getting to know SEAL member Ford and his determination to protect his loved ones at all costs. Scarlett was a great character as well, who despite her horrible upbringing and lack of parenting, made sacrifices to make a better life for herself. She didn’t use her past to excuse and dictate her future which I loved! They worked really well together as a team.
I also really liked getting to know RJ and York as they traveled around Russia to escape the different organizations that were after them. Throughout the story they were trying to figure out who was trying to frame her for the General’s attempt on his life and who was their friend or enemy. It was a little complicated but I still enjoyed it.
Lots of action, twists and turns. Great characters, dramatic story line, with clean romance and christian themes like forgiveness and grace. I read this book in one day because I couldn’t put it down-I loved it so much!
I can’t wait to read Wyatt and Coco’s story next! I highly recommend this book and series!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
4.5 stars
I can always count on Susan May Warren to write something that keeps me on the edge of my seat and my heart rate elevated throughout her books.
In Ford, the third installment of The Montana Marshalls series, readers are swept on a wild chase through Russia (complete with FSB and the Russian mafia) as Ford and Scarlett team up to find RJ (Ford’s twin sister) and get her out of the country.
The Marshall family members are headstrong, independent, and committed to doing the right thing despite the personal cost. And while they may sometimes rely too much on their own strength, they have a firm foundation of faith which eventually makes its way to the surface.
Warren is a master of writing novels that flow into each other so that I won’t be completely satisfied until the series conclusion when everyone gets their happy ending. Up next, hockey goalie brother Wyatt. Come on, October!
