“Who do you depend on?”
That’s a question Ford Marshall will ultimately have to answer if he is ever going to allow his fondness for a certain Petty Officer to grow roots. Navy Seals are known for their survival instincts, and since Ford is determined to rescue his sister while renewing his relationship with Scarlett Hathaway, his lone wolf tendencies may need to undergo some serious tweaking; after all, Russian assassins play for keeps.
C.I.A. specialist Ruby Jane Marshall is in deep trouble; her face is plastered all over television screens world-wide, as an apparent suspect in a foiled assassination attempt on a Russian general. While fleeing the scene she is forced to depend on a man whose skill set is beyond valuable, but whose emotional walls seem grimly impenetrable. Remaining in Russia is proving to be far more difficult, and dangerous, by the minute.
“We always think of God as our reinforcement . . .but He’s our breacher.”
What an explosive read! Albeit in the end, the acceleration proved to be a bit confusing as multiple characters in multiple places eventually intersected, but in their wake left numerous unanswered questions; presumably for the next book in the series.
“Brace yourself. Because you’re about to get in over your head.”
Oh my goodness…this is so much more than a cowboy book if that’s what you are thinking. Ford takes you from the US to overseas, SEAL team ops to covert ops in Russia! It continues the search for who is trying to amp up Cold War relations with US and Russia. However, now Ruby Jane Marshall is pulled into the mix when a trip to Russia pins her as an assassin. Ford can’t stop himself from going to her rescue, but even with his SEAL team experience he’s in over his head in Russia. Now he must choose between the woman he’s falling for and his twin sister. And, who is this guy York who’s helping his sis?!!
“And then, in his kiss, he promised her his heart.”
The kissing…y’all it’s so over the top in this book! Which, I loved! You might need a tall glass of ice tea for reading. Actually, better add a whole pitcher with extra ice! Yeah, it’s that good!
RJ goes to Russia as an CIA analyst when intel comes in that there may be an assassination attempt and can’t reach her boss. She never dreams she’d be the one running from the FSB. As the mysterious York steps into rescue her, is he friend or foe? I love her story, it’s like a flipped Jack Ryan or Sydney Bristow as York likes to call her. You just have to read it, you’ll love her!
“We always think of God as our reinforcement…but He’s our breacher. He’s the first one through the door.”
“’Trust in the Lord—he is our help and shield.’ Psalm 115. David knew that the only way to victory was to let God lead him into battle and watch his flank and shield him when he was in over his head.”
I loved these quotes. Ford is a protector at heart. That’s what makes him a great Navy SEAL. Ford’s story just stole my heart…of how he thinks he can do it on his own, but really needs others. His struggles to measure up to his brothers, to not let anyone down were so heartfelt. His love for Scarlet and his sister were woven so well around his relationship with God. I loved seeing him transform from lone wolf to trusting God more. Warren does an amazing job tying in the spiritual struggles of all her characters and seeing how God is wooing them.
I’m so in love with this series and Ford knocked the other books of the series out of the park. I loved Susan May Warren’s Mission: Russia series from years ago, so taking us back to Russia just made my day! Seriously, if you love action, adventure, romance, and seeing how family comes together, you’ll love this series! And…Ford is well, just run don’t walk to get this book, because Wyatt is next and it’s going to be phenomenal!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher and JustRead Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I also, bought the book, because I loved it!
All The Montana Marshalls novels are tied together, just like the family is. I recommend that you start at with the first book KNOX, then read the rest in this order: TATE, FORD, WYATT, and RUBY JANE. In each of them, the main characters are strong and heroic, but each of the main characters have secrets and hidden weaknesses, just like all of us. The books have strong romances and strong spiritual threads in the midst of suspense and danger. I highly recommend them.
Thrilling suspense!
This is book three in the Montana Marshalls series, and as each story continues to build it becomes more and more exciting! Ford is on a mission to rescue his twin sister in Russia, and he needs the one person that he knows he can depend on to have his back. His Navy Seal teammate Scarlett ‘Red’ has always been the voice to keep him focused on a mission. Red is confused as to what to do next with her Navy career due to difficult circumstances that have come up in her personal life. She agrees to go to Russia with Ford, but they may soon discover that they are both in way over their heads.
Everything about this story is amazing! It also gives a background story on Ruby Jane. I am very excited for the final two stories of Wyatt and Ruby Jane to complete this series.
*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
Attempted assassinations, travel to a foreign country, Navy SEALS, CIA agents, spies – what more can you ask for in a suspense novel?? Ford has all of this and more as Ford Marshall heads to Russia to find his twin sister who has been implicated in an assassination attempt on a ranking Russian official. His SEAL teammate and friend Scarlett goes with him on this mission that could go wrong at any time. Can Ford rescue his sister and work out his relationship with Scarlett? Or will this mission cost him everything? You have to read and find out!
Ford is a fantastic addition to The Montana Marshalls series. A well written inspirational romantic suspense. This book is a real page turner and is action packed. My thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased.
Ford
Montana Marshalls #3
By Susan May Warren
Ford Marshall just isn’t himself anymore, not since Scarlett Hathaway left the team and is no longer the voice in his ear, the steadying presence he needs to get him through the mission. And now that he has the added worry about RJ he is more than a little distracted on his current mission – enough so that he just might make a mistake that he may not live to regret.
Scarlett Hathaway is just about to start a new career pathway having passed the needed tests to qualify for Rescue Swimmer training. There is just one problem her half-brother Gunner needs her and her future with the Navy is in doubt. When Ford shows up asking for her help how can she say no? After all, this could very well prove to be her last mission and what better way to go out than on a rescue mission with the man who means the most to her.
RJ (aka Ruby Jane) Marshall was just supposed to pass on some needed intel, after all, she’s just an analyst, not an agent. But she now finds herself in hiding in Russia and the assumed attempted assassin of a Russian official. She wasn’t even supposed to be in Russia and now she might never get out alive.
This is the third book in the Montana Marshalls series and though Ford takes center stage as evidenced by the title of the book FORD in no way does it leave out the rest of the Marshall clan. RJ, Ford’s twin sister is also a key player in this book as her mishap in Russia is the catalyst for getting both Ford and Scarlett heading to Russia and the vast unknown to rescue her. We also learn more about Scarlett and her background as she has to deal with her conflicted feelings about her mother, her mother’s boyfriends, her future, and Ford-the man who seems determined to single-handedly save the world. This just might be the day that one of the Marshalls doesn’t come home…
Those who have read the previous books in the series (Knox and Tate) will enjoy this one just as much if not more. If you are new to the series this book will not give you trouble in any way as it could easily be a standalone title. So if you are a fan of suspense and romance you’ll enjoy adding this book to your TBR (to be read) list.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
3.5 stars
I was so excited to dive into Ford’s story! I love these characters and the family dynamic makes the series all the more intriguing to me. Warren never disappoints on the suspense front; this book is jam-packed with crazy intense action that leaves you on the edge of your seat. From page one, I did not want to put this down! The romance was a bit heated for my tastes, and I found myself skimming several scenes. For that reason, I docked a star and a half.
Overall though, I enjoyed this addition to the Montana Marshalls series!
FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from JustRead Tours for promotional purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
I have loved every one of these books in the Marshall series, but this one, it had it all. I loved, loved the many sweet moments not just between Ford and Scarlet but also his sister RJ and her squeeze. There were so many quotes that were worth taking note of. What a treat and I’m soooo looking forward to the next book. This is definitely a worthwhile read and I’ll read this book again gladly.
Oooooh. I think this might be my favorite of this series so far. That is saying something because I loved Knox and Tate! But Ford. . . Ford was, wow! Intense, fast paced, full of danger, growing attraction and yummy kiss scenes. Yup, I had a hard time putting this one down. Maybe part of my extra love for this one was because I actually got TWO love stories in one. RJ (Ruby) has her own story going in this book running parallel to Ford’s as he tries to find her. In Russia. They eventually intersect but until then we have RJ and York, which was also so, so good.
The hardest part about this book is reaching the end and now I have to wait for the next book to see how things play out. I hate waiting. I’m feeling almost desperate but in the most amazing way. I can’t wait to read Wyatt!!
You really need to read this series in order. If you haven’t started it yet, you are in for a treat!
Content: peril, violence, death. Kissing. Christian fiction.
Every time I think that Susan May Warren cannot top her previous series, she proves me wrong. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and definitely kept me up way past my bedtime. I honestly couldn’t put it down. Susan May Warren has crafted another epic romantic adventure that drew me in and kept me guessing.
Ford Marshall is a man on a mission: his twin sister, Ruby Jane or RJ, needs saving. From Russia. And she’s wanted for an assassination attempt. Ford takes Scarlett Hathaway, a member of his team, the voice in his ear, to help him. Scarlett has just lost her mother, her young brother has been put into foster care, and she’s thinking of resigning from the Navy to be able to spend time with her brother. Ford and Scarlett are also fighting a mutual attraction that neither is sure will work out. Naturally the road isn’t going to be smooth for any of them.
The characters in Ford are very real. In fact, I found myself feeling like I knew them in real life. They also aren’t perfect, and Ford and Scarlett both grew through the story. Ford always had to have things under control. One of my favorite quotes is this one: “When did God step off the throne and put you in charge?” Scarlett’s family life led her to question whether God even cared about her at all. I think that many of us can relate to these issues as well.
I loved how Susan drew in some characters from her previous series. It’s fun to get the updates since we last heard from them. While you don’t necessarily need to have read all of her previous books, I think the Montana Marshalls series is best read in order since events and characters from the first two books are referenced again in Ford. Also, not everything is resolved at the end of the book since we still have two siblings that will have their own stories. If you like to have everything tied up when you finish reading, you may need to wait until the series is finished before starting it. This only serves to make me more excited for the next book!
I would recommend Ford and the rest of the Montana Marshalls series to anyone who enjoys intrigue, romantic suspense, or epic adventure. I received a review copy from the author, but the opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
POFC Ford Marshall has been serving his country and saving people for the last few years but his heart and soul keeps reverting back to that little boy who almost lost his sister when he was about 12 due to his poor choices at the time.
Now as a Navy Seal he has the chance to rescue his twin sister whom has found herself facing charges of attempted murder of a foreign head of state. And while Ford knows that her training in the CIA has equipped her with many skills to take care of herself she is still an analyst and not a “soldier” so he knows that she needs him to rescue her.
Scarlett Hathaway has been in the Navy for a few years and the last 2 have been assigned to Ford’s SEAL unit as combat services support. She is the voice in his ear looking out for the team from the air (satellite) and helping them to accomplish the mission as safely as possible. But now she has a new mission in front of her she is going to begin training as a rescue swimmer. She wants to accomplish as much as possible, to be a help in every way possible. However, the down side is that she will not be part of Ford’s world anymore, sure he has been a friend to her in more ways than she would have thought possible, but now?
Ford always knew that he depended on Scarlett to help the team, to help him get home safely from each mission but he had also began realizing that he really cared about her outside of the job. But how could they be both to one another? He did not like that he would have to learn to depend on another person from support services but he would never want to hold her back in her career. He did the only thing he could think of, he helped her study and train before her training began.
But there was one more mission that he would need her help with. And of course she would say yes. And as this last mission unfolds the feelings they are having are changing and growing into something that they may not be able can not ignore.
I have loved this story from beginning to end. It grabs hold of you and does not let go. Just when I think the stories cannot get any better, they do.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Ms. Warren for letting me be a part of this process.
Susan May Warren sure knows how to keep her audience begging for more. With family members and plenty of action and romance, Warren captured the Marshall family in all its glory and downfalls. I always think the one I am currently reading is the best than Warren comes out with the next book with more thrills and bullets flying. Ford is no exception. I really enjoyed getting to know Ford and RJ and watching how they interact. Twins are different than normal people. They have a deeper connection. Something us non-twins don’t quite understand. Anyways, the plot in Ford is definitely a chase through Russia and hoping to escape with their lives. The romance got a little too detailed at times for me, but I know some readers enjoy that. For me, I just skipped right over it and moved back into the chase. I continue to love hanging out with these family members and can’t wait to read Wyatt and RJ’s stories. I highly recommend everyone picking up Ford and all the books in this series. Or anything written by Warren.
I received a complimentary copy of Ford by Susan May Warren through the JustRead Tours, but the opinions stated are all my own.
I lo ve Susan May Warren. She has an amazing way of building her characters. She gives a back story to each main character to explain their reactions to the what is going on without be judgy or sappy. There is always lots of suspense. So with all the excitement she has a way of showing how God is always present in good times and bad.
We always think of God as our reinforcement. . . but He’s our breacher. He’s the first one through the door.
Today the highly anticipated third book in Susan May Warren’s Montana Marshalls series, Ford has released into the book world. And let me tell you it is a high octane, action packed, ride from Montana, to California, to overseas in Russia. So, you can travel without waiting in a TSA security check in line.
The Navy SEAL thread was fun and so familiar to myself as a Navy kid. I’ve been to Coronado, California where SEAL training is so I could picture it.
Ms. Warren ratcheted up the suspense, action, and romance from Knox and Tate. I am thoroughly enjoying this entire series and looking forward to the next installment. And let me tell you the covers are so swoony!
The inspirational thread encourages, and shows that the only person that truly rescues us is God.
I highly recommend this book!

Eeep! *swoons over Ford*
If only it was possible for me to give this book more than 5 stars! I have been loving the Montana Marshalls series, and having already met youngest brother Ford (and fallen head over heels in love with him!) in the previous book, Tate I have been eagerly anticipating Ford and Scarlett’s story, and wow did it surpass all my expectations! I loved the first two books, but Ford is by far my favorite book of the series so far! This book was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more!
In my opinion Ford is Susan May Warren’s best book yet! I absolutely adored everything about this book, and I couldn’t stop reading! There’s so much more I want to say about this amazing book, but I don’t want to risk giving anything away so I will just say that this book kept me enthralled from beginning to end! I was totally and completely spellbound by this story, and I absolutely loved every moment I spent reading it! This whole series so far is incredible and I highly HIGHLY recommend it. The books in the series can standalone if necessary, but trust me, you’re not going to want to miss a moment of this fabulous series! I am dying to read Wyatt and see what happens next in the Marshall family saga!
I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
“Ford” is the third book in the Marshalls of Montana series. It is best if you read them in order as Susan May Warren’s books all have intertwining fingers of plot that weave throughout the series. Besides Ford and Scarlett, we also get a “intro” to Ruby Jane and York. The characters are not perfect, they are flawed as all humans are, thereby making them more realistic and relatable. Their lives are gritty and messy, but God uses them anyway. I was immersed in the story and didn’t want to stop reading. There were faith elements woven throughout and lessons on how we need to let God lead are prevalent. The suspense of who was behind the incidents and the many twists kept me turning pages. I was surprised several times by what happened. Some of the pieces to the overall puzzle that the whole series is dealing with are starting to fall into place where you start to get a hint of what might be going on. I can’t wait to read Wyatt’s story and to get more of Ruby Jane’s story.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
Scarlett trying to figure out grace. Who should get it and how much.
Scarlett’s pitiful childhood. She fled from that life years ago, using the Navy as escape. Making sense if the tangles of her life. She scumbled to ulterior motives because she was used to people not caring.
Scarlett felt God was not present in her life. She felt stood aside and let get hurt. We don’t have to do or be anything to matter to God.
Settings and details of the book. Language.
This book debunked the myth that God helps those who helps themselves
Ford, taking care of everyone else. Incident with his twin.
The way to victory is stepping back and allowing God take lead. We always think of God as our reenforcement but He is our breacher
God knits together our past to equip us for the future. God providing and protecting each and every step of the way
York had always been a liner driven by the quest to right a wrong and protect people at all cost until his path crossed with RJ
RJ didn’t want to be weak, protected or rescued by anyone. She didn’t want anyone suffering on her account.
Coco
This was a very, very adrenaline packed book. I read it in a day.
I love the action in it. It was so believable. The characters were awesome and very relatable. The different settings of the book was beautiful. I’ve always loved books and movies featured in the middle East. I got to discover some new countries from this book.
Ford was a control freak and a lone wolf because of some of an event that happened in his childhood. So he vowed to always be there and protect everyone. That singular childhood experience influenced everything he did. I love his protective streak. But he learnt that there is only one Person that should be in control of our lives as children of God and that is God. I love his surrender story and the events that led to it.
God knits together our past to equip us for the future, this quote from the book is the best caption to describe Scarlett or Red as Ford calls her. Reading about her childhood was very saddening. The different choices she made as a result of where she was coming from culminated in her finding God. I love the theme of how patient God is until we realize him and how if we look we will see him in every moment of our lives even the seemly painful ones.
I loved reading about how the lives of the different characters intertwined. It was not scattered, the stories fit in properly. The Marshall brothers are awesome!!!
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This is the 3rd book of the series and my first but I could understand the story.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed here are mine.
Ford by Susan May Warren is a thrilling contemporary Christian suspense that will have your heart racing as you follow the action. It is the third book in the Montana Marshalls series but can be read as a stand-alone. I however enjoyed catching up with familiar faces.
Once again the Marshall brothers continue to fight against corruption and rescue others. Their motto of no one being left behind continues. There is the theme of trust as characters find themselves stranded in Russia. Can the law enforcement agencies be trusted? Who exactly is telling the truth? As life seems to be unsure we need to know the One who always has our back. “Life is… unpredictable… But with God at the helm, it wasn’t out of control.” No matter how crazy life seems, nothing surprises God. He sees our end from our beginning.
There are characters who have never felt ‘good enough’, continually working for a parent’s approval. The good news is that our Father God loves us. We never have to work for His approval because we already have it. Sometimes we believe that we have petitioned God enough, now we need to go it alone. “God had already answered enough prayers, so maybe [he] had to handle this on his own.” God never gets tired or worn out. We are never alone even if we feel like it. Our feelings are not markers of God’s presence. Our feelings are unreliable gauges.
If we seek God, He will be found. Sometimes we do not see Him because we are not looking. “God abandoned me a long, long time ago.” God abandons no one. As with the Marshall brothers’ motto, He leaves no one behind. “What about the places God does not go?” There are no places that God does not go. To quote Corrie ten Boom “ There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
We are called to do life in partnership with God. “When did God step off the throne and put you in charge?” Sometimes we try to fix things in our own strength and we pick up burdens that are not ours to carry. We need to seek God in prayer at all times and in all situations. Watch God do amazing things when we call to Him in prayer.
People will always let us down. Sometimes we build walls to keep the world out. These walls have the opposite effect, they imprison us. It is time to break those walls down.
Family is important. Sibling bonds are strong. Sometimes we think our loved ones think badly of us. Do not assume the worse. Without asking, we never know what others are thinking.
I am really enjoying this Montana Marshalls series. I cannot wait for Wyatt book four to see where life will take him.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Only one word to describe this unputdownable read and that is, WOW! This is my first Susan Mary Warren book and I am a fan! Ford is the third installation of the Montana Marshall Series. Though this is my first read of the series, I would have to say that it worked for me as a stand alone and I definitely will be picking up the other books as I cannot get enough of the Marshall family.
Ford Marshall, a Navy Seal, is on a mission to save his twin sister Ruby Jane “RJ”, a CIA analyst who has gotten herself mixed up in an assassination plot in Russia. Petty Officer Scarlett Hathaway’s mother has just passed away and with feelings of abandonment and disappointment she leaves her position as Fords’ communication guide for the past three years, to become a Rescue Swimmer. Ford calls on Scarlett for one last rescue mission to Russia.
The story from beginning to end is a page turner full of action, adventure, and of course Romance while also intertwining the importance of Faith and Trust in God. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend this series, the author and this amazing book!
