Forbidden Warrior (Midsummer Knights Book 1) by Kris Kennedy is another exciting story in the “MIDSUMMER KNIGHTS” series.
“Book 1 in ‘A Midsummer Knights Romance’; Book 2 in the ‘Renegade Lords’ series”. Can be read as a stand alone. Set in 1183, when turmoil between the Scottish and English borders
Meet, Irish warrior Máel and Lady Cassia d’Argent. Their story is well written and well excuted. The characters are well developed, engaging and interesting. I enjoyed Mael and Cassia’s story, with intrigue, a bit of mystery, suspense and plenty of passion. If you enjoy stories
of chivalry and strong warrior skills, treason and so much more, then “Forbidden Warrior” will be your Medieval Romance.
Kris Kennedy never disappoints her readers with her rich characters, lush countryside, descriptions of events at a tournament. A must read! Definitely a keeper!

Kris Kennedy is amazing! If it’s a romantic historical medieval romance you’re looking for, you’ve found it In “Forbidden Warrior”. This is my first book by Kris but it definitely won’t be my last! She weaves a wonderful tale of romance that transports you back in time bringing the characters and story together masterfully.
I loved this well written tale of unexpected love, the righting of wrongs, and family honor. The characters are just wonderful and come to life with every word. The dialogue between Máel and Cassia is fantastic, fun and witty, guaranteed to make you smile. The imagery is rich in detail making you a spectator in the story. The story itself is filled with such beautiful, heart fluttering emotions and electrifying passion as Márl and Cassia fall in love.
Máel is driven by family honor to reclaim a sword, a family heirloom, whom some even believed to hold magical properties, given him by his father, stolen by a ruthless, evil minded man. He’s strong, gorgeous and a good man. Cassia is an intelligent young woman trapped under her father’s thumb believing her knight will win her hand and her love and most of all love her in return. Little does she know she is being sold to the highest bidder.
In the midst of King Richard the Lionheart being held for ransom and his evil brother John trying to steal the throne this captivating story is filled with intrigue, spies, an evil villain, action packed adventure and romance to live for.
This is most definitely a must read! I can’t recommend it enough! Thank you so much Kris for such an enthralling, entertaining and lovely romance!
What a great way to start a new series. This first book starts a little slow, but it is a necessary slowness. Ms. Kennedy does an excellent job of describing medieval tournament life, the fluttering pennants, the jousting area, and the silks of the noble ladies hoping to catch their champion’s attention. Cassie d’Argent is one of the noblewomen, but she has no particular interest in any of the participants. Her father has arranged a private joust, in which the winner wins her. His baroncy is bankrupt and he needs the money she will bring him. Unfortunately, he did not count on Mael, the Irishman from whom he stole an heirloom sword and had him beaten almost to death. Mael wants his sword, Moralltach, back. Once he spends some time with Cassie, he also wants her. This is when the story picks up speed and does not slow down until the end. The tale is well written with great characters, a bit of humor, a lot of action, a dastardly villain, and of course romance. It has made me not only want to read the rest of the Midsummer Knights Tournament, but also the Renegade Lord series to learn more about Mael’s blood brothers who made an appearance at the end of this book. Definitely a book to read for lovers of the medieval era. I received this ARC eBook from the publisher and the author for an honest review..
Máel is an Irish outlaw. He delivers traitorous messages between Baron Ware and the rebels planning to overthrow King Richard. The dishonorable baron double-crosses and leaves him for dead. Máel’s revenge hinges on the Englishman’s daughter being offered as the tourney’s prize. However, Cassia threatens to soften his stony heart. Can Máel get back what was stolen from him? Or will he give it up for Cassia?
Lady Cassia d’Argent is the only child of the Baron of Ware. Her father intends to wed her to the tournament’s champion. However, a roguish stranger in armor ruins those plans. While with Máel, Cassia learns the full truth about her dastardly father. She also learns something about herself. Can Cassia help Máel retrieve what was stolen from him? And what price is she willing to pay?
I have always had a fondness for Irish characters and Gaelic names. I am curious about Máel’s pronunciation. Máel is a man shaped by the hardships fate threw at him and his brother. I adore that Máel never dissuaded Cassia from learning how to whittle or shoot a bow. He patiently taught her both, even though the two pasttimes are considered unladylike. What I love the most about Máel is his treatment of Cassia. He never belittled Cassia like her father or other suitors did. Instead, he encouraged her to be herself.
Cassia steadily grew on me. At first, she came off as too whimsical and weak-willed. However, the further I read, I realized Cassia is just an unfortunate victim of the era and a dissolute father. I empathize with Cassia’s desire to marry. She craves stability, protection and respect, things she has not had with her father. What I like the most about Cassia is that she holds no illusions about her father’s person. She knows what kind of man he is and all the immoral deeds he has committed.
FORBIDDEN WARRIOR is book two in Kris Kennedy’s medieval romance series, RENEGADE LORDS, and the first book in her brand-new series, A MIDSUMMER KNIGHTS ROMANCE. This story can easily stand alone. Unfortunately, I have not read KING’S WARRIOR, the first book in the RENEGADE LORDS series. I plan to remedy that when I am able because I love this author’s Irish characters.
FORBIDDEN WARRIOR is a romantic tale of two people overcoming their social class to be together. I cannot wait to see what the author has planned for Fáelán and Rowan.
