picky, picky, picky…
I’ll be honest – Tana Stone’s entire Tribute Brides of the Drexian Warriors series has been enjoyable and well written. This fifth book is no different. (Here it comes: “It’s not you, it’s me…”) To be blunt, I’m a little weary of these human women snatched from Earth as tribute brides for the Drexians. Yeah, OK, kidnapping is kinda uncool; I get that. On the other hand, once that ship has blasted off for the Boat (space station), unpucker that sourpuss, grab those lemons and make some lemonade, already. Take Ella, the heroine of this story. She’s rejected the whole Tribute Bride gig, effectively putting herself OFF LIMITS to the Drexians and the privileges enjoyed by the Tribute brides who pair up with them. WHY? She’s lonely. She admits the D-men are hotter than afterburn. She had nobody and nothing going for her on Earth. Jeez, girl! Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face… And the Drexian who spots her and can’t let it go – he’s REALLY into her! So much so, he’s courting professional suicide by pursuing her – High Command will exile him to the back of beyond if he’s caught ! So they go through the whole needless angst and agony because she can’t just DEAL. Argh! Like the song says, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need.” So, against all odds, rebellious streak intact, both H and h take the long way to HEA. Four stars cuz it ain’t a bad book at all, I’m just looking for fresher material. I am voluntarily leaving this ARC review.
3 1/2 stars
This is a medium length book of 182 pgs. An enjoyable story. The H falls in love with a human he cannot have. Ella is a human female who refused to be a tribute bride. They are compatible human females who have been abducted from Earth to be brides to the Drexians with the approval of Earth’s government but the public is being kept in the dark. The Drexians are an alien race that is no longer having female children so look for compatible females from other. They defended Earth from an attack and then made a deal with the government. Their protection in return for human females. The females must have no attachments so that they aren’t missed. They must also be compatible which only 50% of the females are. Ella rejected her supposed mate but once abducted they are not allowed to go home. They are also forbidden to have sex or a relationship with a drexian but can with other aliens on the station. Our H is on the station waiting for his tribute bride but meets Ella and can’t think of anything or anybody else. The book is about their growing relationship. There is also a story arc running throughout the series about their war with the race who tried to attack earth. This story has action, brief moments of heartache and lots of sex. The author waited until about a 1/3rd of the way through the book before she added a sex scene but then there was alot. A little too much for me at one time. I pretty much skimmed through the end of them. There was a break and then more sex. While I like sex in my books I also like alot of plot. So I downgraded stars due to my period of boredom. The editing was good with few errors. Aside from the above the story moved pretty fast. I did enjoy the story and would definitely recommend this book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Earth was taken over by aliens Kronock because their females can not have children. The women are abducted from Earth to be mated to Drexian warriors. The Drexians started when his people had stopped producing females and were in desperate need of compatible species before their race died out completely. Now would be the time to get the book to find out what happens. I will be getting more books from this author. Thank you for writing these books so we can read them.
