Could you imagine how difficult it would be to return from England during the American Civil War? Then to see your father murdered and also your sight at the same time would be unimaginable. That is what the heroine of the story had to face but that wasn’t the only thing there’s another twist and this one could actually end up causing pain and loss. An orphan Anjele is rescued by Brett but here is one big twist, he is a Yankee and she is a southern lady but kids this not the only huge twist in the tale it is full of twists. I found this to be a riveting piece I could only imagine how she was feeling. It was a good story and a bit dark and creepy at the end but I highly recommended this book. I did receive a free copy of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it.
This historical romance story took place during the civil war which made this book a very enjoyable read! The good character and plot development kept me totally glued to my kindle until the very last page!
I liked this story but wish the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with her mother and sister “adopted cousin”. This story is before and during the civil war. There is love, romance betrayal and tragedy. Good read. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
I liked the premise of the book and I liked Brett, but had a harder time connecting with Anjele, who I thought was immature, and a little silly sometimes. But the story was good and I love reading about Louisiana, the bayou and southern’s beauty. I receive this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. Anjele Sinclair is the daughter of the Plantation owner and is trying to live her best life before she is forced into an arranged marriage. In that time frame she falls in love with one of the new field hands. Things fall apart and she is shipped off. While she is in England the Civil War breaks out. She heads back home on her own and this is where the crazy adventures began.
Claudia is a character that you love to hate and even though it is not nice you keep hoping that she will get what is coming to her because she was so nasty all the time. Raymond was a good guy for the most part he just had a few character flaws. I liked Anjele and Gator they were both good people but just had bad things happen in life. I did hate that Anjele never spoke up to her mother about the way Claudia treated her and just took it. But when she was anywhere near Yankees she fought tooth and nail to make sure they knew she disliked them and to get free in a couple of instances. Anjele while naive did seem to be a down to earth person. I never did figure out who was one of the secret men in the book, I did try to guess it though and I was completely wrong. There were a lot of adventures in the book and a lot of romance. The adventures kept me reading. I am glad that a few of the wrongs were made right by the end of the book. Even though the book was longer I wanted to know more about what happened after the end.

When it comes to war, there is little to commend it. A civil war has to be one of the worst with citizen against citizen and brother against brother. Anjele, has suffered everything a woman can, and apart from losing her beloved father, she is also betrayed in the worst possible way. This novel is violent and in many ways uncomfortable to read as Anjele has to face the worst in humanity. The plot is fast-paced and highly suspenseful. Although well written, I cannot say that I enjoyed this book as it is gruesome with gross acts of betrayal. I was, however, glad that it came to a successful conclusion. With the backdrop of the slavery issue, class distinctions and prejudices, and finally the Civil War, Anjele and Brett’s story unwinds in stunning detail. They both experience loss and heartache due to each other’s misunderstandings and others’ interference. Truly enjoyable read and hot romance! I received this book from eBook Discovery.
