A bookworm with a dangerous new job. A mysterious new love interest. And a frightening new reason to fight the Council.
Bella fought for control over her life, but when it comes in the form of working at the College library in the Magical realm, she never imagined the threats that would follow. To make matters worse, now she’s falling for the night security guard, a wolf shifter in hiding—and … wolf shifter in hiding—and relationships between witches and shifters are forbidden.
Especially for one of the High Warlock’s heirs.
For the first time ever, Bella’s determined to let her heart have it’s say, no matter the cost, but that doesn’t mean the Council will stay out of her way. There’s no way they will allow the alliance, and Bella must face death once again for her heart’s desire.

Our heroine fought hard for the veneer of control, but the council still is trying to pull her strings. She is getting rather tired of being pushed around.
This is book five of this urban fantasy series, and book two of this story arc. It works pretty well as a standalone, but you will be missing some of the background.
This is an urban fantasy series. As part of a second story arc, we get a well developed and detailed world with an excellent cast of characters. Even if you have not read the initial trilogy, most of the essentials are presented early on. The plot is fast paced and grabs your attention early on and doesn’t let up. The story is well written and I really like the depth of the story and our characters which really make for a solid read. I have found this series to be highly addictive and eagerly await the next book.
Highly recommended.

This is book five of the Daughters of the Warlock series and this one concentrates on Bella, the middle daughter. She came to find her father in the last book, when she found Courtney had been poisoned and nearly died. Ava and her new husband Tavlor were off visiting different realms, trying to find accord between all the different realms and to see for herself how bad some of their situations were. The council of the Magical realm has lots of laws and feels themselves far superior to Fae and shifters, plus had caused a lot of problems for Ava when it was discovered she was the High Warlock’s daughter. Now his other two unknown and secret daughters are in the mix. There was another assassination attempt on Courtney ad Bella’s lives in the library where Bella had just started working, by someone linked to the Council. Bella wants to return to her work at the magical college library, as books are her life, but her dad Matlock wants her protected. He walks her to her work the first day back, but won’t tell her what he has arranged to keep her safe.
Courtney meanwhile, has been still suffering from remnants of the poison she was given, which was very specific to her family’s DNA. She goes to see a relative in the High Warlock’s realm for more treatment and is fairly sidelined feeling the effects of the poison still. Bella soon finds that her father has arranged a security guard called Christian, as a bodyguard to walk her home after the end of her shifts at the library, and a supposed night shift guard fr the library. She has already seen Christian in a shop she went to with her father and knew he was a wolf shifter, as was Oliver the owner of the shop and a long-time friend of her father. She felt some sort of pull towards Christian at the time, but it is when she shakes hands with him, that she feels a burning electrical sensation, never mind he is really handsome as well. But Bella doesn’t like being touched by anyone, even her sisters and is very ill prepared for any feelings towards another, never mind thinking of a relationship. Her ability to realise Christian and Oliver are shifters is very unusual, as they both take a remedy to hide their true selves, and pretend to be weak warlocks to live a better life.
She has a lot to learn about the world she is not living in and also how the Council could affect any future life she wants. As one of the High Warlock’s heirs, she and each of her sisters still have targets on their backs! When she gets on better with Christian and is caught having her first ever kiss with him, her father has to explain a few facts about life and laws in this realm. If she thinks she could have a relationship with Christian, she could be in a lot of trouble as interspecies relationships are outlawed! Bella will need to take things easy and when they are threatened by a member of the council, warnings are given and worries piled in her shoulders. She doesn’t know this world and is used to being on her own in the realm her mother created for her and her sisters. She wants to know the true reality for Christian and his fellow shifters in this magical realm and to try and understand why they are treated so badly by witches and warlocks. Matters will get worse for the pair, before anything might change and big decisions will need to be made about their futures. I look forward to reading the next book in the series to find out what happens and what influence the High Warlock and his daughters can have on changing the way the Council rules their realm and others. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
The fifth book in the series is about Bella, the middle sister. Christian, a wolf shifter is guarding Bella as she goes to and from working at the college library. As she gets to know him a budding friendship occurs. The Council views interspecies relationships illegal. More conflict ensues. I love how characters from earlier books in the series are included in the growing story line.
