Forbidden Lovers by Kimberley Troutte has it all, pseudo-secret baby, billionaire and girl next door, missing parents, dead lover, estranged family, all those tropes we love to devour. In Troutte’s capable hands these tropes all merge into a single cohesive storyline. I very much enjoyed the visit to Plunder Cove and can’t wait to go back.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Forbidden Lovers by Kimberley Troutte is the First book in the Plunder Cove series. This is the story of Julia Espinoza and Matt Harper.
Julia and Matt were young teenager who loved each other but from different sides of the track and pulled apart by family. But now about 10 years later Matt is returning home for a quick time frame is what he thinks…but things change when they meet again.
Great second chance at love story…one you can’t put down for sure!
Forbidden Lovers is a well written book with a strong plot. Although it is not a unique story it is a steamy romance with a lot of characters (that will have their own future stories). This particular book is about a young wealthy man in love with a poor Latina girl. The rich parents interfere, preventing the young lovers from being together. The story hinges on lies and misinformation, but also includes the opportunity for second chances. Matt and Julia get their HEA ending while the reader will have to wait for the author’s next novel to find out if RW and Angel’s love can survive the dangers that surround them to find their Forever Love. Kimberley Troutte has done a very good job in setting up this new series.
This is a standalone book but the author leaves you anticipating the continuation of other books and characters.
I really liked and enjoyed this book. It had great main characters and really great supporting ones too. Secrets, mysteries and dangers were also a part of the story. It was an emotional story as well. And the mysteries and secrets were NOT just about Julia and Matt’s romance. Although that alone was a doozy.
Matt’s childhood was a horrendous one. His father and his mother just brought out the worst in each other and caused one huge battlefield in the lives of their children until they divorced. Matt remembers not only strife but also harsh punishments brought from his father’s fists. He does NOT want to return to his “family home” not even just for a moment also because he doesn’t want any part of his father’s control and manipulation. But his father found a prod to entice him back and the question is can he be trusted or is this another scheme? Matt is just going to fly in, find out what the announcement is and fly back out. Yeah, the plans of man, as you can see in the blurb things are not going to go exactly as planned.
Julia what a great woman, with such a close, loving family. She might not know much about her birth family but her adopted one was fierce, and colorful. Not a dull moment around them. They helped her become strong again and helped her out of the dark pit that she almost succumbed to when she was told Matt was dead. She had overcome a lot and accomplished a lot which is why I called her a great woman.
Matt and Julia will get their H.E.A. but of course it won’t be a walk in the park. Powerful Epilogue with a great twist.
What a pretty good cover for the eBook, right? I just had to mention that also.
“I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.”
This was a perfect star-crossed lovers romance!
Matt and Julia were high-school sweethearts from opposite sides of their small community. Ripped apart by forces beyond their control, each spends the next ten years believing the other is lost to them for good. Until Matt’s dad calls all his children home for a shocking announcement to the entire town.
The love these two have was rock solid, but their reunion was continually obstructed by the many secrets and lies told over the years, making their eventual HEA all the more sweeter for the trouble. The secondary characters were superb, adding layers of humor and heartwarming wisdom. The complicated backstory was teased out patiently, and the surprise twist at the end was jaw-dropping even as it was satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book through NetGalley.
I used to read Harlequin Desire books all the time so I was looking forward to trying the books again. That being said, I enjoyed the book. Matt Harper and Julia Espinoza fell in love at a young age, and then Matt walked away. They were both lied to by Matt’s parents. Matt believed Julia married another, and Julia believed Matt died while in Afghanistan. 10-yrs later Matt’s father gets him to return home. A chance reunion that bring forth all of the details on how they were manipulated by Matt’s parents. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
For Matt and Julia love was their greatest gift but their worst obstacle. How can something that began so beautifully have ending in such a heartbreaking way? Manipulated by forces beyond their control and secrets too big to hide, things are about to explode. He’s a ghost from her past.. She holds the key to his future. Both crave a second chance, but danger could be looming on the horizon. Forbidden Lovers is romance at it’s most heartbreaking. A breathtaking beginning to a complicated series.
Intriguing easy read. Matt was a fun character that you could see yourself hanging out with. The big crazy Spanish family was on the nose. Henry was an audacious and adorable imp. You will enjoy sitting down and reading this fun filled book in just a few hours.
The author takes the time to introduce us to Julia’s family. From aunts to cousins and how they all stick together. Julia has needed these people seeing she ended up in a bad place. Thankfully she had her son, who keeps her grounded. Matt Harper has achieved everything that his parents wanted for him. The only thing missing is the woman that he gave his heart to. This homecoming is going to find out why everything happened and will there be an HEA.
Fantastic contemporary romance with intrigue and suspense. Matt and Julia loved one another as teens but their love was forbidden. Matt was pushed by his abusive father, RW, to walk away from Julia. During basic training he learned that Julia had married devastated so he stayed away from home until his father called be and his siblings home. Julia reconnected with Matt and they decide to enjoy their short time together. Matt is shocked to meet Julia’s son. There are lots of secrets that are bound to come out. I received a complementary copy of this book via Net Galley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
Forbidden Lovers by Kimberley Troutte
Julia Espinoza and Matt Harper fell in love as teenagers and his parents broke them up. Now he is back in the area after years away and they realize that they never stopped loving each other. I really enjoyed this book and the family interactions. It has a touch of mystery to it on another storyline going on so I now want to read Kimberley Troutte next book so I can see how it is solved. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book.
