In ‘Blood Laws’, it seemed Tom was a dick, but it turns out he had his reasons, so I end up coming around to him in this one. I also very much enjoy Amelia’s point-of-view as it confirms some theories I formed from the glimpse of her I was provided in book 1.
It’s a long read or listen, yet it’s also not. 10 hours in audiobook and I was so addicted, I got this done in 2 sessions. It’s PACKED with action, drama and corruption, a semi-complicated plot and manages to being real feels as well.
Really well done overall, as I’m coming out of this still completely addicted to this series.
Epic read.
There were a few instances where it seemed past-participle tense would be more appropriate than the past that was spoken, but this is the only remark I have, editing/proofing-wise.
Note:
I listened to the audiobook; narrator has a smooth, pleasant voice. Did a great job with accents and slightly different voices for other characters, etc. Added to the experience.
4 stars.
I feel like I’ve barely gotten my toes wet with this series. I have so many unanswered questions, which is why I’ve already started the next book. So I’m going to make this review as quick as possible (no planning) so I can get back to it. Just know that Lexi C. Foss has worked her magic and has me completely wrapped up in this immortal world she’s created.
Amelia – she’s the lost but never forgotten sister of Issac and Luc. For six years, everyone believed she was dead. Little did they know, one of their most trusted friends was holding her prisoner, using her for experiments, leaving her bent not broken. When Stas infiltrated the Sentinel program, everyone found out the truth. Unfortunately, with a bomb collar around her throat and wards around the facility she was captive in, there was no safe way to rescue her. When suddenly she’s moved to a new location, at first she believes it’s all part of the game until her captor proves to be so much more than what he seemed. He taught her how to defend herself. He gave her the means to feel free. And he made her accept the new woman she was turning out to be.
Tom – son to a monster, he always idolized and adored his father. When he realizes how truly wicked his dad is, he starts making plans for his escape. But where would he go? He’s a fledgling, which means he should be safe with the Hydrians, however, as a Sentinel, he’s made many enemies. He quickly learns that he was a pawn and how reckless his father played with his life. As punishment for his previous actions, he’s sent to babysit an asset – Amelia. He was supposed to keep her in a cage in the basement, but he couldn’t force himself to dehumanize her further. And as Amelia grew into an incredible person right before his eyes, he found he had little resistance to her guileless charms.
I liked that this book had some action. It was what I was looking for and gave the perfect complement to the love story that was evolving between the characters. Tom and Amelia easily won my heart and despite how desperate their story seemed, I had hope for their happy ending. I have no idea where this story is going next, but I hope these two come out alright in the end.
P.S. I loved Amelia so much more than Stas. She felt she could do so much, but was willing to acknowledge that Tom was much more experienced and deadly than she was. For some reason, Stas hasn’t come to this conclusion yet about herself. I’m pleading that she learns some humility in the books to come.
It continues with Tom and Amelia!!! Definitely read this series in order!! So Tom does something he’s not supposed to do and gets punished but can you call it a real punishment if he is stuck with his fated mate?? Both characters have some awful pasts but together they can face anything that gets thrown at them!!
I can’t wait to read the next book, I love this series, I’m totally addicted and can’t put these books down.
Once again Lexi C. Foss has written a captivating and intriguing novel!!! I absolutely love this series and it just gets better and better! I can’t wait to read the third book, you have to check out this AMAZING series!!!
I can’t get over how much I really like this series. Honestly, its one of the best I’ve read in the last few months. I’m officially a fan! Anywho I might put a SPOILER or 2 but thats because I feel strongly about this particular one. So, be forewarned!
Amelia has been through hell and then some. Poor woman was tortured over and over again and healed over and over for 6 years. Until she’s moved by Tom heir to Jonathan’s Empire to a remote cabin to hide from Stas. Things arent always as they seem. Not just for Amelia but for Tom as well. He’s a good guy and has been shaped by his sadistic and psychotic father if you can call him that. His saving grace is he has a conscious and is realizing just how much of a monster his father is. Tom and Amelia are drawn towards one another but both have trust issues and trying to do the right thing on Tom’s part. Twist of fate has these 2 characters reeling for different reasons. Okay SPOILER AHEAD I am glad that crazy ***** of a “doctor” is dead. Anita…oh yes you remember she tried to kill Stas in book 1 well she is Amelia’s main torturer besides Jonathan. Thats all I’m gonna say because believe me that woman got off easy! I’m enjoying the heck out of this series and will read more.
Dark and delicious! I enjoyed the darker tone to this story with both main characters coming from rough backgrounds to grow together in unexpected ways. I loved seeing previous characters and how everything is playing out with the story. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Expectations can be a b*tch! Blood Laws, the first in this series, ticked every one of my ADD reader boxes, fast pacing, kick ass MCs, action, WTH moments, witty humor, amazing world building and a cast of interesting side characters. I was over the moon and my ADD monster sated. Forbidden Bonds was slower paced and more focused on the Tom and Amelia’s relationship, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not my thing. It wasn’t till almost the two thirds of the way through (when the rest of the cast joined the story) that it started to pick up for me.
My reactions and feelings are very much a case of “It’s me, not you” and though this story didn’t wow me, it was a worthy read. Questions were answered, new ones formed and the plot definitely propelled the story forward. There are so many aspects of this story that I can’t wait to see play out in future installments. I really wanted to rate this book higher but as with all my reviews, I have to let my emotions lead the way and this one didn’t invoke the range of emotion I wanted.
Forbidden Bonds picks up the story right where Blood Laws left us hanging.
I absolutely love how this author is weaving together these characters and surprising us with the familial ties that bind them together. This installment spotlights the relationship between Tom and Amelia and their struggle to be who they choose to be and what their future will look like. First there’s some nasty business to take care of and some fences to be mended, but not so fast…we’ll call that a work in progress.
This one was a little slow out of the gate, but I think the author wanted to make sure we understand Amelia’s history, the events surrounding her family’s presumption that she is dead, and give us that slow burn build to her relationship with Tom. There’s a good bit of darkness as we relive Amelia’s captivity and experience some of Tom’s childhood. They both have tragedies that haunt them, but the feels we experience through the author’s words as they learn to trust and rely on each other are exactly the reason we read.
I highly recommend you don’t pass this series by, the characters are wonderful and the story captivating and original.
This is the second book in the Immortal Curse series, and most of the characters are from the first book. Make sure you read Blood Laws before this book.
In Blood Laws Tom wasn’t getting the popular vote on readers favorites-book-friend list. But if you’re like me that opinion will change once you read Forbidden Bonds (his story).
Tom is sent off to a place he hates most to do a job he disapproves of, but here’s where we really get to see him. He’s the jerk who put his friend at risk, so why would I like him? That really shouldn’t be shocking since he’s the guy who was desperate to show his friend the truth before death could. He’s also a guy who believes in right and wrong. Tom has become everything the man he looked up to wanted, he is a warrior! Once Tom is no longer under his fathers eye he is witty, fun, protective and sexy! Seriously he’s on my book boyfriend list right at the top.
Amelia has been living in a fogged hell, no hope of returning to the life she once knew. A lady, sweet, sheltered, and loved. All that was taken from her when she was taken… or was it? Now she’s in a new hell, one without the fog. The current guard is the devils own son. So sure of his strength and skills he teaches Amelia to fight just to pass time. But what if he is in his own hell too. Family seems to be everything to him as it is to her. Then what if he is teaching her for protection not boredom. Amelia needs out and will do what she can to get it, and he just might make it easy for her. Banter, flirt, seduce, kill…
This story is a romantic, thrilling, adventures, sad and dark at times. Question what you think you know, trust those you shouldn’t, pick and choose wisely. See if love will conquer all. 🙂
Forbidden Bonds – Immortal Bonds Series Book 2 by Lexi Foss – 5 Stars
There is a note from the author at the beginning of this story that recommends reading Blood Laws (Book 1 in the series) first because Forbidden Bonds picks up right where Blood Laws left off. I read Blood Laws a while ago and was worried that I would be lost. I wasn’t. Lexi Foss writes in such a way that I was hooked from the very first sentence. Although I didn’t remember ALL of the details in
Blood Laws, it came back to me rather quickly.
Forbidden Bonds is a paranormal romance starring Tom and Amelia. They meet under less than pleasant circumstances and along their journey discover that lies have been told and things may not be as they appear. The common thread to both stories adds mystery and I, honestly, have no idea how it is going to end.
I very much enjoy the way Lexi Foss writes. There is enough detail and cadence that keeps the story moving at a brisk pace while not short changing anything. The story is told in a dual point of view which allowed me to see how each of the main characters was feeling. I also very much enjoy the secondary characters and hope that we get to read Balthazar’s story someday.
I absolutely recommend this series.
It just keeps getting better!
In Blood Laws (book one) Foss introduced us to a world of paranormal intrigue and suspense that would satisfy even the most fastidious of readers
With book 2 she has gone one step further – Intrigue – subterfuge – suspense – kick @ss heroines – sarcasm -romance – this series has it all and so much more.
It turns out the enemy may possibly be our friend and our friend may possibly be our enemy- or we quite possibly may be being played on all sides – I am not telling -Nice try though 😉
So many secrets are revealed and old questions answered – though with each new revelation comes more questions
Foss takes us further into the world of the Hydrians and their ways. We even get to go to the island – meet the elders – and that cliff hanger in book 1 – yeah we get answers and so much more than we bargained for!
Definitely, recommend this series if you are a fan of the DH or the Brotherhood or even the Lords –
Foss has and is taking the time to build a superior series – one that any paranormal fan would be proud to read and own
This is the second book in the Immortal Curse Series and let me tell you that Lexi has made me a true fan of her writings. The first book was amazing with Lexi’s talent of world building and character description. I felt as though I was watching my own personal film in my mind.
Forbidden Bonds is a riveting story of Tom and Amelia’s growing relationship of love and trust that will keep you wanting more. These bonds are challenged by the MC’s families throughout and the turmoil will keep you holding your breath and hoping for a HE. I look forward to the continuation of this story and can’t wait to dive right in to the next book! Blood Heart, here I come.
I loved this book, the characters continue to appeal and draw you into their wonderful fantasy world, I am hopelessly invested in their lives and addicted to this series. Tom and Amelia’s story is touching and difficult to read in places due to the abuse they both suffered at Jonathon’s hands, and in Amelia’s case it goes to a dark place. I just hope there is a very ‘interesting’ future for Jonathon – he’s definately a villain we all love to hate, and who does he answer to?! I can’t wait to start book 3, and find out what’s next and to enjoy more from these two narrators.
When all your life you have been trained to hate and kill rouge supernaturals but you find yourself caring about how a certain is treated , what do you do? The world just got a lot more confusing. You feel as if you right there with Tom and Amelia, going thru all that they do. The running, and hiding, how he treats her with respect. The chemistry is there , sometimes you just don’t see it but you can feel it. The Immortal Curse series is amazing, I swear every book is better then the next and the first one was amazing.
This is book #2 of the Immortal Curse Series and Tom Fitzgerald & Amelia Wakefield’s story.
Tom is the son of Jonathan Fitzgerald, who is in charge of the CRF Organization. Tom is a lethal sentinel warrior who kills rogue immortals. He’s always believed he has been doing good until he discovers what his father has been secretly doing. Tom leaked information to a friend and his punishment for doing so was to babysit an asset, Amelia. With what Tom has found out about CRF and what his father has done, he has come to the final conclusion he has to leave CRF after this babysitting job is done. He starts to have feelings for Amelia and she realizes Tom is nothing like his father, but can she trust him? Things happen and they are both on the run. He promises to keep her safe and get her home.
There is plenty of action, suspense, witty humor between Amelia & Tom. Shocking revelations and lies come to light. This book isn’t as intense as the first but I loved this one better. The author creates one heck of a story with amazing characters. Recommend this story and can’t wait to read the next.
Forbidden Bonds is an intense, suspenseful, fast paced story. A story of finding truth, making a stand, love and healing.
Tom and Amelia’s tale shattered my heart but slowly piece by piece mended it.
I really loved the support and acceptance they found along the way where it was least expected.
I truly enjoyed going on this journey with them.
PNR/Action-Packed/Suspense/Betrayal
You should definitely read the first book. The story is ongoing, yet a different couple as the primary focus. I don’t usually like 3rd person, this author writes it exceedingly well. I can’t be bothered to care.
Forbidden bonds is the second part of this fascinating storyline. Different couple, same plot, delving more into the lies and betrayal. Wonderful storytelling, I’m still very much in awe, wondering how everything will be revealed. My heart broke for the characters in this addition. A darkly beautiful romance with tons of action packed goodness. I need all the answers!!
Forbidden Bonds (Immortal Curse Series, Book 2) forges ahead with betrayal & romance in this immortal realm. Broken trust, no liberty and bound by duties this one features from book one Tom, & Amelia a prisoner in the CRF who’s unlikely attraction forges them to go on a adventurist journey. A magical cosmos with Fledglings, Hydraians, Ichorians, and Sentinels in a descriptively detailed cosmos. The writing style captures the essence of writing with panache & suspenseful subterfuge twists trickling through the pages. Character’s that you are drawn to, an escape with outlaws, & continuous intrigue encircling the narrative.
Narator Joel Froomkin pitches a captivating performance. I love his mechanics of his voice & english accent. Although, I would have preferred a female narrator for the female character voices. Overall, a well articulated performance.
Audiobook Obsession
After the first book in this series I though there was no way it could get better! it did!
OMG – this is such an amazing series! it drags my emotions all over the place!
Tom & Amelia are such strong characters and Amelia’s sass after all she has been through makes me laugh! Despite all the horror they have been through they still manage to retail the ability to lol!
Amazing story!
This is the next book in this thrilling series and this one focuses on Sentinel Tom the son of powerful Ichorian Jonathan and Fledgling Hydraian and Amelia, Isaacs sister believed dead but has actually been in captivity tortured and experimented on for the previous six years at the hands of Toms father.
Tom has only recently discovered Amelia’s existence and after challenging his father concerning his treatment of the Asset as she is known has been dispatched as her reluctant guard as punishment for stepping out of line and questioning him.
So I wasn’t really much looking forward to this instalment mainly because Tom had not endeared himself to me previously but as this story progressed I actually did start to thaw.
Tom is almost a victim himself of his father just in a totally different way.
Misled, lied to and manipulated all his life I was like a one-woman cheer team as my former dislike morphed into sympathy as I realised that Tom was not quite the sheep he had been portraying.
As the blinkers fell away completely and he went rogue, all to protect the woman that has slowly dug her claws in for the long haul I was applauding loudly from the sidelines.
Tom totally managed to turn my opinion of him completely on its head as I very swiftly did a 360 in regards to my past abhorrence.
Amelia herself was quite the tower of strength and so changed in all the ways, she once was.
Rather than allow her circumstances to consume her she is now determined never to return to that blissfully unaware state and totally rely on other people for her safety and protection.
I was really liking this new pro-active version of herself she has evolved into it was so just empowering.
And together as a partnership Tom and Amelia are at heart kindred spirits and I was totally loving the dynamic developing between them.
So this was action packed throughout and a real page-turner, Quite slow burn in nature but I believe that did suit this particular narrative.
It does need to be read in order as each book features a separate couple but follows on from the previous with a progressing storyline.
I am really looking forward to the next thrilling instalment in this addictive series which I believe involves Lizzie and Jayson.
I really do recommend this series.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Forbidden Bonds (Immortal Curse #2).
