Forbidden Birth written by William Rubin, what a ride! This book had me on the edge of my seat. From start to finish with many twists along the way.
This book was written with depth and accuracy. It touched on surgical techniques as the bad man did terrible things to young women and their unborn babies, with the ultimate intention of taking over the USA. How does one thing lead to the other, well that is the road that needs to be travelled by reading this book and getting to that answer.
I really enjoyed reading about Chris Ravello who is a trained doctor, turned NYPD Detective who heads up a specialised unit which hopes to solve crimes of a medical nature. He endures set back after setback, and heartache that would be hard to bear for most of us. He is determined to find the villain at all costs, even at the expense of his young family who sees very little of him as he works this case.
This story is exciting, terrifying in places, action packed, it questions morality, and had me thinking about medical ethics. The villain in this story, named Durand, is evil at his core, cruel and heartless, showing no mercy to his victims.
I found the Forbidden Birth to be quite the page turner, and I found myself making time to sit and continue reading, I did not want to put it down. The writing style of William Rubin was fast moving and held my attention wanting to know what was to happen next. He wrote the story to life, I even found myself in tears as I felt part of what was happening.
This book is everything that is presented in the blurb. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Chris Ravello Medical Thriller series.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author via Voracious Readers Only.
This is the first time in reading this author I do believe. This fit my kind of candy fix of late so in I went. Doc Chris wants to avenge his mom. So instead of taking that path he becomes a homicide detective. Perfect for being head of medical crimes his first one is against a serial killer. This will be a intense read because any that have serial killers are. The twists and turns it will take with us being taken with it. You will be on edge because it involves unborn babies too. As he goes in this we follow with given a twist to the gut when he closes in. Oh what a bender this one is.
Slow Start, Riveting Story, Shocking End
At first, I was really put off by the slow development. Then as the pace picked up, the story became more and more exciting. Detective Ravello went through so much that you keep thinking ”Why can’t he catch a break?” I have read books in which the protagonist is a broken man. But it is usually after the fact.
But here, you can see how the events break Detective Ravello one by one. The weight of his choices hang over him till the end of the book. The story is riveting. Not exactly my type of book but brilliant. Definitely recommended.
I received a free copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only but that did not affect my review.
Forbidden Birth is an intriguing medical thriller. This thought-provoking novel delves into stem cell research and cloning as police hunt for a serial killer. Interesting concept. I received a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is one terrific medical thriller. It grabbed me from the beginning and kept my interest till the end. Just when you think things can’t get any more diabolical, they do. I found the book exciting and fascinating. I think it would make a great horror movie.
It was rather gory, but I read all of it to see who was the bad guy!
Good read. Too many characters to remember
I liked the idea behind the story but after purchasing found only 92 pages in book and story continued in another book needing to be purchased. Felt story should finish in one book.
Too slow
So badly written that I couldn’t finish it.
I had no idea when I started reading Forbidden Birth that I was reading science fiction. Initial reviews compared this novel to works of Patricia Cornwell. Nothing is further from the truth. With the exception that both authors write about police work and the medical profession, there are no similarities. I knew this book was fiction, but had hoped the story would at least have been plausible. The protagonist behaved inconsistently. For example, Dr. Ravello (presumably an intelligent man) traveled to California from New York. When he couldn’t get in touch with his wife back home in New York, he jumped on a plane, and then drove home. Why wouldn’t he contact his police partner, or a relative to do a well-being check instead of spending hours in travel? That, combined with the many typos, incorrect verb forms, lack of agreement between subject and verb, and plain old mistakes resulted in a work that I did not enjoy. I cannot recommend this book to anyone; it did not meet my expectations.
