Wow! What a book. All I can say is WOW!
I was surprised by the story as the main characters found an immediate connection which doesn’t happen often in these romances. The bad guy in the story comes as a surprise but the hero does what you expect except at the very end. Definitely one you don’t want to put down!
Better than standard romance fodder. Enjoyed it.
This was an interesting read…different story line on an old story.
Really enjoyed this historical romance…one of the best I’ve read.
It seemed that the attraction between the two main characters happened almost instantly. It also seemed that they spent the entire book debating why they couldn’t be together, only to have several “mysteries” solved at once, allowing them to be together. The end seemed sudden.
Very enjoyable read!
As other heroines of this era Elisa seems to take for granted Rufus is being honest with her.
Scandalous for the time period. Lies, deceit and gossip ruined lives then as they do now. Well done.
A twisted romantic tale of thwarted desires, deception, and intrigue. The heroine who wants to be good even though society sees her as a fallen woman, and a father and son who want to claim her to meet their desires of revenge, spite and lust. But a happy ending can be had when love, faith and hope are shared.
Lies
Vaughn returns to the home he knew as a child to confront his father over property that belonged to his mother. On his arrival he finds his father engaged to the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Elisa is there by duress. Rufus promised to help find her son. Abused by Rufus she can barely stay, until Vaughn arrives. His seduction can’t be denied. If caught it would be death from a man filled with hate. Lies, deception and manipulation, the truth will still come out. Steamy sexual encounters and a young man willing to do whatever it takes for the woman he loves.
I have just finished reading this book for the second time. The first review deals with the original and the second with the rewrite/rehash of it. Although I enjoyed the first reading, the second was far superior and I think of this story now as wonderful!
1st Review:
Quite a bit of sex in this book so if that offends you, perhaps you should look elsewhere.
Besides that, the story is really nicely written and flows easily from scene to scene.
The characters are quite believable with the fiancé, his son and our heroine all playing their parts to make this a really great read.
What I enjoyed most was seeing how the son’s attitude slowly changed from a rake to a caring lover and the best was his realization of what was happening.
This book was provided by the author, promoter or publisher at no cost and this is my unbiased review.
2nd Review:
An absolutely brilliant story which kept me eager to continue reading and wishing it would never end.
It has a super hero in Vaughn. He is so caring and likable and comes across as ‘swoon’-material.
Elisa, the heroine, is a lovely, capable character. She has been dealt a rather bad hand in life but with Vaughn’s encouragement (and loving) soon finds her hidden strengths.
Rufus, her fiancé, is another kettle of fish. He is the man one just has to detest.
The story is full of adventure, love and romance, intrigue, family values and it also has some tastefully written ‘hot’ scenes too.
I am recommending this book by Tracy Cooper-Posey and Julia Templeton for all of the reasons above and hope you read and enjoy it as much as I have.
