I had so much fun returning to Wildwood Cove and The Flip Side with Marley! I wanted to sneak into the kitchen and watch Ivan prepare his delicious crepes, and then head back to Marley’s and play with her sweet kitty, Flapjack. But Marley had her work cut out in this one. Someone murdered the most unpleasant woman in town, and Marley becomes suspect #1 on the hit parade. Since she doesn’t want to end up flipping pancakes in prison, she goes on the hunt for the real killer. I was gobsmacked by the killer’s identity–yet all the clues were there. Marley’s burgeoning romance with Brett warmed me to the core, and I loved that they rescued a dog together. This is a finely-wrought series with so much room to grow. On to book three for me!
This is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series. I would be happy if there are more books to come. I read the first book, Crepes of Wrath and thought it was great. This was a really good cozy mystery. The main character, Marley, was likable, and the plot made sense. Too many times, I read mystery stories where the motive for murder seems super random, and hard to understand. Wildwood Cove sounds like a great place to live, and the Flip Side Pancake house sounds like a great place to eat. I wish I could visit this town. I found the descriptions of life on the beach very relaxing. It made me wish I had a cute little beach house too.
Marley has decided to stay on in Wildwood Cove and seems to be making a good life for herself. The only problem is someone is vandalizing her business. She discovers that it is Ida Winkler, a cranky older person who blames Marley for putting her nephew in prison. The police are not much help, as they think Ida’s vandalism falls under the category of “pranks.” Marley goes to Ida’s house to confront her, and finds that someone has murdered Ida.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was a nice continuation of the series. This is one series that I definitely want to see more of and plan on reading any future books.
I received a free ARC from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Love, love, love this series! This book was so good, I had a hard time putting it down. In this book, a woman is causing problems for Marley. When Marley goes to try to talk to the woman, she finds her murdered. Marley becomes a suspect since she was having issues with the woman and was the one to find her body. Can she catch a killer without being killed? I can’t wait to read more books in this series and see Marley and Brett’s relationship grow. Also loved the addition of Bentley the dog!
Marley McKinney is settling in nicely in Wildwood Cove. She inherited the home and restaurant formerly owned by her now-deceased cousin. Even though her cousin’s death is still a sad time in Marley’s life, she has managed to make friends, adopt a pet, and strike up a romance with a former flame. All is going well until someone keeps vandalizing Flip Side and making harassing phone calls to Marley. Marley thinks she knows Ida is causing the ruckus and tries to make amends but when Marley finds Ida dead, she becomes suspect number one.
Marley wasn’t as inept in book 2 as she was in book 1 (which is one of the biggest complaints I had in my review of book 1). I’m glad to see that Marley got her amateur sleuthing straightened up a bit. The novel was fast paced and flowed well. The character development and world building were done well. I felt like I knew the town and the people, but the descriptions weren’t flowery or over exaggerated. The mystery itself was crafted. I was engaged in the novel and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to continue to the next book in the series.
I was provided a copy of this book to read.
For Whom the Bread Rolls by Sarah Fox is the second volume of this cozy series continues with quirky characters, murder, and pancakes. An enjoyable quick read.
I have enjoyed each book in this series and think the author is very good. I will look forward to reading more books by this author and in this series.
Entertaining and nice twists to the plot. Romantic
Great setting and great characters. Love the idea of the pancake house. Lots of mysteries and puzzles to figure out. I did figure out the killer early on but I didn’t know why so it was still a mystery to me. I would have given it 5 stars but since I haven’t read the 1st book in the series, I didn’t understand some of the references made in the story so I would have liked a little more background given in book 2. Obviously I need to read book 1 before I move on to book 3. But overall, it was really a good read.
This series is a must read for anyone who loves cozies as I do. The characters are very well developed and Ms. Fox’s description of the setting which is the pacific North west makes you want to book the first flight out to this charming little village.
Very simple.
Enjoyable cozy mystery, great beach read
Loved it and hooked on the series.
A favorite series of mine! I totally recommend it!
Not bad; rather predictable.
I love reading recipe books. I haven’t tried any yet, I need to get my mixer fixed, at 85 I am not up to all that kneading, but I have marked some recipes for when I get my mixer back.
I started it because it’s set on the Olympic Peninsula, but not the Olympic Peninsula I know. The main character was also unrealistic. Just wish there was an actual pancake restaurant like described.
“For Whom the Bread Rolls” earns 5/5 Ivan’s Maple Pecan Sticky Rolls! Yummm!
This book 2 in Sarah Fox’s Pancake House Mystery is great with or without maple syrup! She has written a delightful book with a clever mystery, sweet romance, and beautiful descriptions of the Northwest, the town, the woods, and the ocean. I enjoyed Marley and her clever deductions, and although I had someone else as the killer, the final solution was perfect…the clues were there, I just took them in a different direction. Those fans who have read book 1, “The Crepes of Wrath,” will be thrilled joining Marley and her friends on this adventure, and newbies, like me, will get enough background to be caught up quickly. However, there are some references to events in Book 1 that might be considered ‘spoilers,’ but maybe I misunderstood. I am not deterred and am headed off to read it like I would any prequel. The first book included some great recipes from Ivan’s kitchen at The Flip Side, but my ARC didn’t. But, looking at the book description on Amazon, you’ll discover some of the treats served up are included. Yummm! It’s a great entertaining read! I highly recommend this series.
