For the Love of the Gentleman starts 6 years after the conclusion of the previous book and Prudence is the only unwed female in the family, which I found to be in keeping with her character as she was the shyest of the family. She has attended a few London seasons and although she has met many gentleman over that time, none have made her feel that he is the man she was to spend her life with. Instead she would rather be a doting aunt and persue her love of art and arrange to have her paintings show cased in an art show. I love painting, so Prudence was a character after my own heart and really enjoyed reading about her.
In fact, I loved Prudence and Ashton and enjoyed reading about both of them. As the bastard son of the Earl of Stanhope and believing his mother to have been tosse aside, Ashton has a deep-seated grudge against members of the ton. He sees them as frivilous and shallow and so when Prudence comes around about her art show, he is quite antagonistic toward her. Prudence refeuses to let him ruin this for her though, she’s going to love her dream.
Prudence was great, wasn’t about to put up with his nonsense. She has been my favorite heroine from the series. I loved Ashton too, and loved him more because he was a bit flawed. He let his anger and his resentment to the nature of his birth get in his way and hold him back. I was so annoyed with him when he nearly threw everything away due to his feelings of inferiority, but he brought it back and was back in my good books.
For the Love of the Gentleman is the sixth book in Callie Hutton’s The Noble Hearts Series and has been my favorite from the series. I recommend this book, it’s sweet and very quick to read.

I really enjoyed reading about Lady Prudence taking her future into her own hands. She decided no more societal husband hunting for her. She is after her passion of being an artist. When she is contracted by an art gallery to display her work, she meets Mr. Ashton Reeves one of the owners. Ashton has a chip on his shoulder. He despises anyone of peerage. I like the antagonistic banter between Pru and Ashton. It shows wit and humor. They take as good as they give. As Ashton gets to know Pru his prejudices are knocked down one by one and he can’t fight the attraction between Pru and himself. Pru does not fight the attraction at all she welcomes it. Ashton is his own worst enemy and keeps messing up with Pru due to his belief he is not worthy of her. Then there is the subplot of Ashton’s father. That was quite surprising. What really got me was when Ashton’s mother sees his father after so many years and the results. An entertaining read and I do recommend it, I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
For The Love of the Gentleman is another delightful addition to The Noble Hearts series. Lady Prudence is a very talented artist and has decided to leave the social whirl and pursue her art. She has been offered a show at Goddard and Reeves Gallery. To say that Ash Reeves dislikes Society is an understatement. While he admits Prudence is talented, he is positive she is not serious about her art. Tension is thick from the moment they meet. Ash is temperamental, distrustful, and arrogant. While Pru is confident and talented, she is confused by Ash’s attitude. They don’t have to like each other; they don’t have to fall in love; they just have to get along until her show is over. Can they? Will they? It was fun to watch the interaction between Ash and Pru. I love Lord Pomeroy’s gentle encouragement (meddling). Will it help bring them together? Will there be a family meeting at the end of this one? Great characters and an entertaining story filled with humor, discovery, and surprises make this a wonderful conclusion to the series.
Love to read these ones that are back in the day when things were a bit different and women that had a choice also make for interesting entertainment. Lady Prudence is one such lady whom she thinks one thing but life will show and tell her another. What caught my attention with this character though is she was a artist that was going to pursue it. Whom also sharpens this story is Ashton the other half owner of the gallery whom is showcasing her work. The fireworks and flames that ensue from this one kept me fixed to it from beginning to end.
When I remember the ending of the previous book, For The Love Of The Duke, it looks like Prudence had a mind of own and decided she did not want a Peer for herself and was not ready to settle too soon.
So the story takes place six years after the last one, with a full growing up Prudence who knows now what she wants from life, no more groom hunt on the marriage mart instead she want to be recognized as an artist, why she contacted an art gallery which will display her painting.
What she didn’t expected was to be rebuffed by one of the gallery owner because of her origines.
Ashton Reeves holds a grudge against the nobility, being the illegitimate son of an Earl. Why he did not take well the news about the new artist he will sponsor with his associate.
I loved to see them interacting, evolving from dislike and disdain to attraction and admiration.
They have a sweet romance, of course tarnished by Ash unable to accept he can deserve Prudence’s love. Even if she is determined to prove him he is wrong, certain stubbornness can be wrong and lead to choose a poor path.
Still, I do love Lord Pomeroy’s interference and how his family handles proposals of marriage.
A lovely novella, which concludes perfectly this series.
A beautiful story of unconventional ton family…
Wonderful plot and characters… Some surprises that will warm your heart…
A young lady, with a lot of artistic talent… A owner of a famous gallery…
A book for all who love Regency
Loved the story of Pru and Ash! A man with his mind made up and a woman who changes it. The epilogue was the perfect touch. Thank you for the advanced copy of the story!
Lady Prudence Sterling is finished with Society. After eight years of balls, routs, garden parties and carriage rides, she has determined that will spend the rest of her life as a doting aunt to her many nieces and nephews but more importantly she will also pursue her art, a passion that has consumed her since girlhood. A visit to the renowned Goddard and Reeves Art Gallery secures her an art show when Mr. Goddard praised her work. Thrilled to finally see her dream come true, the one thing keeping her from total happiness is the sharp-tongued Mr. Ashton Reeves who views her with contempt, and overly-polite formality. Ash has only contempt for Pru when they first meet but he can’t deny she is beautiful. Pru is also attracted to Ash. The more the pair meet each other the more the attraction grows but Ash truly believes he’s not good enough no matter how much the Pomeroy family welcomes him. I’ve loved all of the series the Pomeroys have been delightful. Pru is a dedicated painter & more than willing to dedicate her life to it, Ash is a successful businessman, neither want to marry but neither can deny their feelings for each other. The road to their HEA isn’t smooth but it’s entertaining & made for a captivating read. I particularly loved the epilogue & hope if Michael has his story then there will be an update?
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
After failing to find a single man who even remotely interests her in eight seasons, Lady Prudence Sterling has decided to leave society. Instead she will dote on her nieces and nephews and focus on her art, starting with a show at the famed Reeves & Goddard Art Gallery.
As the illegitimate son of an earl and unaccepted by the ton, Ashton Reeves has no use for society ladies and believes them all to be empty-headed and shallow. In fact, Ash doesn’t even really want to meet his new artist. He can see by her paintings that she has talent, but he’s convinced art must simply be a passing fancy for her, soon to be abandoned in favor of marriage.
Prudence refuses to let one surly man derail her plans or keep her from being recognized as an artist. Ash raises his disdain as a shield against the attraction he feels for Prudence almost from the start. She is the first woman to catch his eye in any serious way and he knows she’s entirely too far above him to make any future between them possible. Fortunately, Prudence has other ideas.
Prudence was one of the best and most likable heroines I’ve read in some time and I found Ash to be a lovely flawed hero; this story is predictable and typical, but it has all the elements I look for in a historical romance and the charming characters pushed it to five stars for me. I tore through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
For the Love of the Gentleman is book six in The Noble Hearts Series by Callie Hutton. I adore Ms. Hutton’s books and I always enjoy reading them. I liked this book, but I felt it fell short of her past writings. I kept waiting for “the hook” in the story, but it never came. That said, I did enjoy Lady Prudence. I felt she was real and likable. I especially enjoyed the fact that she is a talented artist.
I have always been drawn to “enemy to lover” tropes. I liked the tension between Prudence and Ashton. Even though this one fell a bit short for me, Hutton is still one of the best romance writers out there.
