Wow!! Another beautiful story by Jackie North! I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t stop reading. Artie and Finn are just perfect together. The world that the author created was amazing!! And all of the other characters were wonderful too. I highly recommend!!
One of the things I love about reading series is when characters from other books make an appearance. The cameo in this book was wonderfully done, as it’s something only readers of this series would pick up on. Loved it! I’m kind of hoping they’ll meet up again one day.
I’m already a huge fan of this series. The author had me at time travel. I love how with story the reason behind the time travel is different, and the way back to the past or present is unique to that story too.
Finn and Artie’s story is very sweet, as Finn’s interest in ghosts soon gets overtaken by his falling for Artie, and wanting to save him. I liked how time had other ideas, and although he was able to help others, it fought him when it came to saving Artie. I loved the two together, and how their friendship and attraction grew to much more. I suspect that’s what time was waiting for too, as I doubt Finn could have done what he did until they’d reach that point. I thought the ending was very satisfying, and that Artie’s struggle to adapt to what happened realistic. Their first time together, and Finn wanting to give Artie something real, was beautifully written, and very bittersweet.
I also enjoyed the subplots within the story, especially Daisy’s, and how Ruby’s story ended up becoming part of how things were meant to be. Nicely done and very timey wimey.
I love the descriptions in the story, and almost lyrical prose in some of them. It feels very obvious that the author has researched the historical part of the setting, which adds a degree of realism.
The supporting cast also feel very real, and I especially liked Finn’s family and the support and love they clearly have for each other. Most of the author’s other time travellers don’t have the worry of leaving family behind, and I really loved Finn’s struggle with knowing he might not see them again. The two bullies were horrible, and I hope Horace’s actions, in particular, catch up with him one day.
I’d love to catch up with Finn and Artie in another story, and see how they are doing in their new life together.
I absolutely love a good time travel book, but by one written by Jackie North is a special treat, she has a way of writing that wraps you up in the era in which the book takes place, drawing you in and giving you the feeling as if you’re standing right there watching as the story unfolds. The love story between Finn and Artie is a very unique one because one man is from the past and the other from the future and it will take every bit of strength to find a way to build their life together possibly forever.
I love the research that goes into each of Ms. Jackie North’s time-travel love stories. I am in awe of it. The amount of time put into every storyline must be so extensive.
These stories are epic! I love how the characters are molded. I love the details that are part of these love stories. Artie is so so sweet and Finn is as gentleman as there ever will be. I cannot wait for more!
Independent reviewer for gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 6 in the Love Across Time series, but you don’t need to have read the other books before this one, it is totally a stand alone. I am missing books 4, Ride The Whirlwind, and 5, Hemingway’s Notebook. I gave book 3, Wild as the West Texas Wind 5 stars though!
Finn is ghost hunting. 3 ghosts in the hotel, and he just needs some evidence for his appilcation to join an official group and he gets to live his dream. But something about Artie, the ghost who has the least information about him, calls to Finn and when he hears someone being beaten up, Finn steps out of the hotel and into 1912, and he saves Artie. Once. Twice. Three times til Finn can no longer bear the pain of losing Artie for good.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
I loved that Finn knows what he wants to do, and his family back him all the way, but he has a back up plan. Love that Finn is all in with his ghost hunting, but also that he has that little edge over the other hunters. Loved that Artie knows he is different but knows he must keep that to himself. Hated that Artie was the victim of constant bullying. Hated that Finn had to deal with the result of the bullying every time.
The relationship between Artie and Finn grows incredibly slowly, and I really LOVED how sweet it was! It’s not explicit, borderline clean, and this book does NOT need that explicitness, not at all. Its perfect without it. It DOES need the violence that Artie has to deal with though, because that is an integral part of the plotline.
Both Finn and Artie have a say, in the thrid person. I need to mention this (because I can, but also because I NEED to) since the reason book 2 was a 4 star and not 5 was becuase only one character has a say. So, loved that they both are given a voice.
I need to go back and read 4 and 5 now, I really do!
5 full and shiny stars

I thought For the Love of a Ghost was such a beautiful love story. I fell in love with time travel after watching the movie with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour and I feel that Jackie North’s books capture that feeling. I loved Finn and his determination and openness and I love Artie for his kindness and loneliness that he can’t seem to get out from under. Every event just flowed so well into the next. The way Finn treated Artie was so kind and gentle. I loved going back to 1912 and learning about newsies and papes. I was charmed all the way through and in all of the other books, what I thought and secretly wanted to happen, came true in this one. I loved the ending and how beautifully it tied up. I do wish we could see them 5 years later and see how they’ve done, but I am going to picture it in my eye anyway. It was a great story and I most definitely recommend it.
The is the story of Artie, a ghost and Finn a ghost hunter. It was a beautiful and poignant story that gave me so many feels. I love how Finn travels to 1912 to try and save the 3 ghostly inhabitants of the hotel. Unfortunately, he messes up the timeline, oops! I absolutely love how Jack North creates such a beautiful and moving story! A must read!!

I don’t know how Jackie North does it, but her writing is so riveting and all kinds of wonderful. Her stories always take me to places that end up feeling like home and leave me in awe and with dreamy eyes. Despite the fantastical feel of her books, especially in For the Love of a Ghost, the writing is ever so earthly, easy to identify with and real.
For all accounts, this should have been a depressing read. The love story seemed doomed from the beginning and it definitely made me ugly cry. But, at the same time, I felt comforted, like living among my own people, my family. And it also made me realize all the things I take for granted. I’m not even talking about modern day commodities, but about freedom. Freedom of choice and equality.
I loved the characters and their connection, and feared they wouldn’t get their happy ending. They deserved all the joy in the universe, and I’m so, so happy with how the author managed to work around the adverse circumstances.
A beautiful and moving story.
How much pain can you withstand before you give up?
How far must you run before you’re free?
How can you stop a murder from happening?
How can you save someone who may already be dead?
This is a sweet romance alongside 3 deaths that happened over a century ago. It is a story that will weave its way around your heart and leave a lasting impression. If you didn’t believe in love transcending life times…you will now.
Just wonderful
This is the story of Finn and Artie. Finn is a ghost hunter and goes to Harlin Hotel to study the three ghosts that are haunting it. There he is attracted to Arturo Larkin ghost and the story behind his death. He accidentally travels to past where he rescue young Arturo that is known as Artie.
Artie is a young man who all his life had to hide his true nature, that he is attracted to man, fact that is frown upon and is not accepted by 1912 society. The only time he told a person resulted in beating and he had to change town.
In his past travels to save Artie, Finn changes the destiny of the other two ghost but is heart broken that Artie dies every time more horrible than the previous time if he doesn’t get in time to save him.
In the end he realise that he can’t live whit out him so he takes him to his own time.
It was a interesting story about love, second chance and the fight for happiness.
Can’t wait for the next one.
Ugh. Jackie, you slay me with your words. I wanted to crawl into this book and give Artie a hug so bad. He was such an optimistic and hopeful soul despite everything. It’s been a long time since I loved a character this much. And Finn was the absolute perfect partner for him. Understanding and gentle and patient in a way that Artie so desperately needed.
I basically cried my way through this whole novel. No, that’s not an exaggeration. It’s so beautifully written and chockfull of feels that my heart broke and was put back together more than once. I more or less figured out how it was going to end around the 60% mark but that didn’t matter at all. The journey we’re taken on to get to the end is both heartbreaking and sweet. I just wanted to plunk Artie and Finn into a safety bubble so everything would be okay.
Loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Highly recommended for anyone who loves beautifully written romance novels between star-crossed lovers that make you ache and smile, sometimes at the same time.
