Stay alive at all costs. No attachments, no looking back, no emotion. The last thing my father gave me was a key. No explanation, no details, just a key. The last thing he asked of me was to take the key to a set of co-ordinates. But survival in a fallen world filled with Feral isn’t easy. The Fangs and the Claws, once upstanding members of society are now slave to the virus, hunting … hunting indiscriminately under a perpetually full moon.
There is no hope. There is no haven. Not alone. Not until them.
They are a new breed of monster—beasts of both fang and fur. Unaffected by the sickness, they crave only one thing, and it runs through my veins. Survive, my father said. Look out for no one except yourself. But sometimes the only way to survive is to make attachments. Sometimes the only way to live is to accept a dance with death. And right now, for me, the path to survival is in the blood.
Here’s to hoping it doesn’t kill me.
The Vampire Diaries meets The Walking Dead in this Post-Apocalyptic Urban Fantasy with a slow burn Why Choose romance

In a post-apocalyptic world full of monsters of all kinds, both human and supernatural, one human girl stands alone against the forces doing their best to end all human existence and make way for only their kind to rule supreme. She is raised from childhood to fight, to cut all emotional ties, trust no one and survive at all costs but she learns the hard way that standing alone might not be as easy as she planned. Sometimes you have to change direction, form bonds, find allies…and share your blood in order to save the world. If you enjoy urban fantasy, dystopian and post-apocalyptic worlds filled with shifters, vampires and monsters of all kinds, as well as some other intriguing creatures you will love this new world Cassidy has created. The world building in this story is exceptionally written and detailed and the characters are an amazing and fascinating lot.
Eva is definitely my favorite character from Cassidy’s world, to date. She is not your typical hero; she is down-to-earth, levelheaded, flawed and real. She has a strength and fortitude that is rare as well as a strong head on her shoulders to make the toughest decisions and still push ahead to achieve her goal. She does not let anything stand in her way and never stops fighting for what she believes and those she loves. The allies she makes along her journey are interesting. The fate of the humans, as well as the world, balances on her shoulders and in her quest to find answers to cure those infected she finds out so much more and forms bonds that will change her life.
The guys are fascinating characters with their own distinct personalities and endearing qualities. I love that throughout the book each of the guys is allowed to shine in his own way using his own strengths to help Eva. We are shown glimpses of their past connections as well as learn a bit of their backstory and it all definitely leaves you wanting more. I am dying to learn more about each of them. They are a strong family unit that will do whatever is necessary to survive and they have a real quality with many hidden depths I look forward to seeing revealed.
This is a fascinating read that will pull you in from the beginning and leave you wanting more in the end. There is plenty of non-stop action, snarky banter, excitement, longing, fear, some sweet moments that will make you say ‘aww’, some intense confrontations, several twists and turns and plenty of life and death scenarios that will hold your interest in this wonderful adventure.
As usual, the author delivers an adrenaline-filled reverse harem content. Throw into the mix a steady plot/character development and world building…what more do I really have to ask for?
Personally, I consider two key points that can make an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic setting be incorporated into a very interesting read: unique cause and character development. I think most of the apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic reads I’ve had are caused by experimenting-gone-wrong scenarios so a different one or a creative twist definitely catches my interest real quick. And of course, the other thing is how the characters cope and fare throughout the ordeal – surviving, humanity, morality and so on. And I think the author and this read have considered these factors very well.
The story is brimming with action and maybe lowkey gore (i.e. not descriptive, just implied) right from the start. And really, throuhgout the read, it feels like everything and everyone is on the move – never having the chance to settle down nor the chance to sort through the emotions. Eventually, most of the unraveled infos and histories make much more sense and I’m able to grasp on the bigger picture.
At first, there is Eva and Tobias who are polar opposites of each other but form a complementary duo. The heroine is the no-nonsense, tough as nails type of girl. For the most part, between this heroine and Tobias, she’s the one to take the hard call. It seems to me that she does these difficult and life-or-death decisions almost in her own detached way. No surprise here because the heroines from this author are kickass and amazing. And when I say kickass, I mean she really has proven her worth. Side note: I just don’t understand it when characters survive the apocalypse (or like settings) more with sheer luck rather than actual physical and mental abilities to do so. (So back to my review) Meanwhile, Tobias is inwardly the softness and warmth and compassion type. These two definitely counterbalance one another well.
Then there are also the rest of the guys: Noah, Logan, Jace and Ash. Since Eva is not aware of the technicalities and history behind the infected, the ferals and the rest of the supernatural beings, these guys are the ones walking her through practically everything else. So excited to get to know them better in the upcoming installments in the series and how they connect to the major problem at hand.
Overall rating: 4.8
This author did a wonderful job creating this post apocalyptic action packed thriller. Thoroughly enjoyed being pulled into the stir from page one and found my emotions thoroughly engaged throughout this journey. These characters are perfection and I truly need more backstory, especially Ash. Each one of them definitely could and hopefully will grab the spotlight more and more! Very happy this series caught my attention and moving on to book 2 now! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
What a great world Debbie has created. The ‘monsters’ in this book are a mix of old and new. I love the thought and creativity put into each one. The story too is a mix of old ideas and new; and I must admit that I love it. It is a slow burn with a cliffhanger, but the entire series is out now, so that shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. I’m truly looking forward to seeing what happens next and to find out if my guesses are accurate. Start reading this now. You will be happy that you did.
This is book is so different from anything I ever read before. It brings a whole new face to the zombie apocalypse genre and I absolutely love it! The Walking Dead zombies are scary enough but can you imagine if they were supernatural instead of plain old humans!?! To be fair these beast really aren’t zombies at all but you get the same vibes from it that’s for sure! The characters are amazing and the storyline flows easily. I could not put this book down. DO NOT start reading before bedtime or you will be up all night! I can’t wait for book 2
This is a really cool post apocalyptic book. It’s unique because it involves supernatural. I really enjoyed the action and I’m excited about the series
I love all of Debbies books, but this is my favorite.
A great read. A breath of fresh air on the author’s take on combining two genres and making them seem so new. Fantastic character building and fast paced action.
