After the tragic death of his wife, Jasper, the 8th Duke of Bainbridge buried himself away in the dark cold walls of his home, Castle Blackwood. When he’s coaxed out of his self-imposed exile to attend the amusements of the Frost Fair, his life is irrevocably changed by his fateful meeting with Lady Katherine Adamson.
With her tight brown ringlets and silly white-ruffled gowns, Lady Katherine … Katherine Adamson has found her dance card empty for two Seasons. After her father’s passing, Katherine learned the unreliability of men, and is determined to depend on no one, except herself. Until she meets Jasper…
In a desperate bid to avoid a match arranged by her family, Katherine makes the Duke of Bainbridge a shocking proposition — one that he accepts.
Only, as Katherine begins to love Jasper, she finds the arrangement agreed upon is not enough. And Jasper is left to decide if protecting his heart is more important than fighting for Katherine’s love.

I actually read this a long time ago but Christi Caldwell is a must read for any Regency Romance fan. This is a fabulous series. Don’t miss it.
I loved the development of the two main characters, always torn between duty and desire, between risking everything for happiness and the fear to have one’s heart shattered.
On top of everything, it was also heart-warmingly hilarious at times. Jasper’s friend as well as our heroine had me laughing out loud quite a few times, and it made Jasper’s …
One of my first Christi Caldwell books and it made me fall in love with her amazing storytelling. If you love a truly romantic HEA, then this book is for you.
An OK read
I really wanted to like this Book, it seems Lydia Jasper’s dead wife was possibly the main focus in the Story. I really wished it wouldn’t have taken 90% of the Story for Jasper to come to his senses. I really felt terrible for Katherine, she got the short end of the stick in every part of her life. Being the not as Beautiful twin …
I discovered Christi Caldwell over the holidays and love, love, love her books. Highly recommend! Romantic, fun, and wonderful soul mate kind of true love happily ever after.
Reaches into the depths of your heart from the first page.
Love, Love, Love this story!!!
Wonderful characters
Since the death of his beloved wife and baby in childbirth 4 years ago, Jasper Waincourt, Duke of Bainbridge, has shut himself off from the world. Wounded by guilt, he continues to punish himself for living. Until the day his friend convinces him to leave Castle Blackwood and accompany him to London to a Frost Fair. There Fate intervenes. …
Loved the whole series ! ! !
A magical pendant, an icy rescue, Wordsworth, a creepy castle, a miserable duke and a practical woman – lovely!
I loved this story from beginning to end! Katherine and Jasper had love that even they did not realize how strong it was until they tested it. This is a well written book with wonderful characters that keep you turning pages as fast as you can read. I laughed out loud, my heart beat faster, I wiped tears away while living through the characters …
Love this series – but each can be read alone.
This was a fantastic book about a Duke who lost his wife and child 3 yrs past and saving a plain girl one day and forever being changed. I loved how she dealt with Jasper (the duke) even though he tried to push her away. Different twist and turns.
I don’t know if i liked the heroine or the hero better in this book. They were so suited to one another on so many levels. A good story because the couple actually talked to each other and the heroine was not afraid to go for what she wanted, although it was out of sync with the time period. I thought she was brave and also whimsical to some …
Highly recommend. One of my favorite books by this author.
This was a very good read.
The hero is almost too-tragic. I like that the heroine has spunk. It’s a good read.
Good story. Liked the characters a lot even though the Duke was supposed to be very unlikable.
Too much sex. She didn’t leave anything to the imagination.
Loved it! Couldn’t put it down!
A fun light read….very enjoyable.
