Trace Forester is Alabama’s star wide receiver. Being back under his parents’ roof for the summer isn’t the ideal situation, but the moment he runs into Marin, the single mom down the block, he knows it’s about to get interesting. She may not have noticed him back when she was the star of his adolescent fantasies, but he’s going to make damn sure she does now. The last time Marin saw Trace he was … saw Trace he was just a wild kid in the neighborhood. That’s when she thought she had the perfect husband and perfect life. But now, with her life in shambles, Trace is back in town for the summer. And he’s offering to spend time with her son, doing all the things a dad should be doing with him. And, while Marin doesn’t want to be drawn to Trace’s good looks, undeniable charm, and connection with her son, being swept up in his world is hard to resist.
But what happens when summer ends and Trace returns to school? Is it just her son he’ll be leaving? Or will Marin be left with another broken heart?
Standalone #2 in the For You new adult sports romance series. Each book can be read as a complete standalone as it follows a new couple.

For Forester was such a surprise, a great surprise. I normally am not fond of the older woman/younger man trope, but J. Nathan executes it so well in For Forester that it didn’t bother me at all.
Marin is a 29-year-old mom who just kicked her cheating, selfish husband to the curb. Now she’s figuring out what she wants to do with her life, and how to give her young son the best life possible. And then Trace Forester comes home on summer break from college. He’s no longer the little boy she remembers skating up and down the streets. No, he’s a sexy, built, confident, self-assured 19-year-old wide receiver who seems light years older for all his confidence and stability. When she enlists his help in playing football, playing anything really, with her son, sparks are igniting all over the place. You see, Trace had always had a crush on the older, beautiful Marin. He’s had fantasies about her for years, and now she’s real, in the flesh, staring at him like he’s her savior.
“Growing up, you were in every one of my fantasies, Marin.”
What’s a hot blooded woman supposed to do when a smokin’ hot guy tells her that?! You know what she’ll end up doing…it’s what we’d all end up doing! And when he’s so sure of what he wants, and it’s her? How can she possibly say no?!
“Because I know what I want. It’s you who needs to figure it out.”
I was seriously swooning all over the place while reading For Forester because Trace is such a great guy. He’s so sweet, so charming and just so damn hot that I could tell Marin was falling as hard for him as I was. And when you put him and Marin in the same room together, damn, their chemistry is off the charts hot. I honestly had a hard time remembering that Trace was only 19 because he was so mature, so confident, and such a good influence on not only CJ (Marin’s son), but on Marin, too. He came into their lives and lifted them up. He was so good with CJ, such a mature, sweet role model for him. No wonder Marin fell head over heels for the man. And he was a man, regardless of his young age. He was ALL MAN!
But, as much as I love Trace, Marin is for me, the real star of For Forester. She is strong, smart, kind, and so determined to give CJ a better life, such a great mom and a great person. Her character really stood out to me. She could have let life get her down, could have turned into a blubbering mess when her ex husband kept trying to bring her down, but no, she straightened her spine, and did the best she could for not only CJ and herself, but for Trace, too. Bravo to J. Nathan for creating such a memorable heroine.
Even if, like me, you don’t normally like older woman/younger man romances, you will definitely not regret taking a dive into For Forester. It’s sweet, sexy and the characters are wonderfully realistic, emotionally layered and just plain amazing.
A sports (football, my favorite) romance about an older -single mom/younger man, caught my interest immediately!
My favorite thing about the entire book was Trace Forester, sexy-cocky-swoon worthy wide receiver, but what stood out the most about this 19/20 year old college senior was his maturity level and his heart of gold.
The heroine, Marin, a single mom going through a divorce could be viewed as immature and a little insecure but that stems greatly from being married to a grade A jerk.
There was instant chemistry between Trace and Marin which is great, but I would have loved to have felt a deeper connection.
While this book didn’t really WOW me I did enjoy it and will most definitely read more from this author!
3.5*
How I missed that this was an older woman/younger man story I’ll never know! I’ve had this book on my tbr pile for awhile, but if I had realized it was OW/YM I would have read it much sooner- this trope is my kryptonite.
For Forester was a light easy read, that had the potential for a lot of angst and drama. Thankfully, the story was free of any real trouble, other than a few hits here and there from the ex and Trace’s mother. What we did get was a story of a woman finally coming into own, after being stifled by her ex-husband, and a young man showing her that age really is just number.
Trace was such a sweetheart! He knew what he wanted and didn’t hesitate to go after it. Even when Marin pushed him away, he didn’t lose site of the end game. I loved him for that.
I really appreciated that Ms. Nathan didn’t have Marin make such a huge issue about their age difference. So many times in books with the OW/YM trope the woman tends to freak out about the age gap, feeling guilty, unworthy- making a bigger deal out of it than it is. You never see that in books where the man is substantially older.
I was given a copy of this book by the New Adult Book Club and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
After reading and loving the first book in the ‘For you’ series, I was really curious about the second book ‘For Forester’ (especially because Trace Forester falls for a ten year older woman).
Just like the first book ‘For Finlay’, this story is also a light and easy new adult read. The story is told in both POV’s. You don’t have to read the first book in this series to read this one.
Marin is doing the best she can but life is difficult for her at the moment. A few months back, she was a happily married, stay at home mother but after finding out that her husband was cheating on her, she is now living alone with her young son CJ and looking for a job.
So the last thing on her mind is having a hot little summer fling with a younger guy but that is exactly what happens when she asks Trace, her neighbour’s son, to spend some time with her little boy. Because the more time Trace spends with them, the more Marin is attracted to him. But what first starts as a little fling, soon becomes more but not everyone is happy about that. Trace’s mother and Marin’s soon to be ex-husband are doing everything they can to separate them. Can love really conquer their age difference, the long distance, the gossip and threats? Or was it never meant to be?
We met Trace Forester in the first book but never long enough to get a good impression of him. So I was curious about him and after reading this book, I can say that I loved his character very much. He was very protective and kind to Marin and her son. He knew what he wanted and he went for it. I loved Marin’s character too. She was intelligent, fun and strong. I really liked Trace and Marin as a couple. There is no cheating happening and the chemistry between Marin and Trace was intense. I really loved Marin’s young son CJ, he was so adorable and I loved the way that Trace treated him, with love and respect.
Although we got an epilogue (thank you!! I love them!!) I would have loved it more, if it would have been longer. It was good but it felt a bit rushed, with a lot of information.
I’m very happy that I discovered this series because I’m really enjoying it!! The stories are easy to read with a bit of drama but not too much, the characters are very likeable, there are some steamy sex scenes and hot football players in it. What more can you want!!
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
AMAZING!!! This was my first book by J Nathan and not only did I fall in love with her writing but I fell In love with this couple. I was pulled in from the beginning and not ready for it to end! I loved this story so much!!I went through every emotion in this book swooning, angry, butterflies in my stomach, nervous, heartbroken and completely in love!! Trace and Marin had amazing chemistry! These characters will be sticking with me for awhile!! I can not wait to read more by her!! I would definitely recommend reading this!! (
Flawless. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about this story! When I first saw that this book was up for review I jumped at the opportunity to devour another one of J. Nathan’s extraordinary stories. The moment I got confirmation that it was sent to my kindle I knew there was no way I was waiting any longer to jump into this story, even if that meant I was going to look like the walking dead the next day. Seriously who needs sleep when you have Trace Forester? No one…that’s who!
For Forester was simply AMAZEBALLS and I absolutely adored everything about it from start to finish. This story was totally a swoon worthy read that will have readers on the edge of their seats as they experience all of the emotions within this beautifully captivating story. You get a little bit of anger, heartbreak and a whole lot of love. The instant chemistry between Trace and Marin was undeniable, especially to the people around these two. While others might not have agreed them being right for one another I knew right from the beginning that this story was going to be hot, hot, HOT! These two may seem like an unlikely pair, but they are totally meant for one another (even if the age difference might have a few people questioning their relationship).
Oh and have I mentioned that we get to see Finlay and Caden from For Finlay, the first book in this standalone series. When I found out that Trace was getting his own story I was thrilled because I really liked getting to know him in the first book. I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next, but I must say I am really hoping Samantha (Finlay’s friend and roommate) gets the next story and her HEA!
