Grady
I’m Alabama’s star right tackle—and a real prick.
I live my life by a few solid truths.
Life isn’t fair.
Don’t let anyone get too close.
And those who claim to care about you can up and leave.
But you know what they say about things that disappear…
But Emery Pruitt had never been mine.
Even if she had returned after four years.
Older.
Confident.
And more beautiful than the night she vanished.
But it didn’t erase the fact that she’d left me.

In the fourth book of the For You series, J. Nathan grows her college sports world with the tale of Alabama’s star right tackle Jordan Grady and the girl who took his heart and disappeared without a trace.
Emery and Jordan met when they were kids. Jordan became her escape, her safe place from her abusive stepfather. As they grew up they forged a friendship that might have been more with time, but the night Jordan kissed Emery she left him without a word.
The pain of her abandonment turned Jordan from sweet and protecting to inconsiderate, arrogant and distrustful, but now that she’s back in his life can they put their past behind them and give love a second chance?
J. Nathan’s books keep getting better and better. For Emery is absolutely swoon worthy and impossible to put down.
I was totally enamored with Jordan and Emery growing up together, I loved their easy friendship and the fact that Jordan recognized he could only be her safe place while she was too young for anything more even though Emery grew up knowing she was in love with him.
Emery was a wonderful heroine. I felt terrible for the way she grew up but loved that she used her experience to do some incredibly good work for others. Jordan Grady was perfect for her. A sweetheart underneath all that mouthy attitude, because those of us who met him in previous books had mostly seen his abrasive side with a few glimpses of his true self.
I loved this story from start to finish with its TWO epilogues. Completely unputdownable with all the feels. I also enjoyed reading about Raquel and Abbot and all the secondary characters that added a wonderful layer. I hope to read more about them in future books.
For Emery is book #4 of the For You series by author J. Nathan. It is a full length, standalone sports romance. Told from both points of view with a double dose of super happy ending.
We follow Emery and Jordan in this story, and it’s a great second-chance, rekindling of a childhood romance scenario. This pair was neighbors as kids, and Jordan became Emery’s safe place away from her turbulent home life. These same circumstances cause her to disappear altogether one night. They meet up again in college, and get another chance at the romance that they laid a good foundation for in their own very Dawson’s Creek-esque way – they just have to get past the hurt feelings and kinks the separation has caused.
I really enjoyed this story, the characters and the world built around them. I’ll be traveling back to start this series from the beginning!

I was intrigued and invested in For Emery by J. Nathan. It is a story about moving on and not being afraid to ask for help when it’s needed.
Jordan Grady, from the very beginning, was sweet and romantic. Although he lost his way a little bit after losing Emery, he redeemed himself with flying colors.
Emery never loses her way and was never shy to ask for help. She knew what she wanted and made the steps to follow through.
The connection between Emery and Jordan was electric and felt real because it has a base of friendship, love and trust.
One thing that I found was a little off was that Emery’s mom was in real estate when she is trying to keep a low profile. Real estate agents normally plaster their faces and their listings in the papers and on social media. This, however, did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book.
This is the first book I read by this author and it certainly won’t be the last.
What started out as a safe haven for Emery turned into so much more. Emery and Jordan have known each other since they were kids. They became best friends over time. Emery’s home life wasn’t the best but Jordan made it livable for her. He was her knight riding in to save her. Soon things happened so fast and Emery was gone. Jordan focused on football until one day fate steps in and changes everything. I really liked how sweet and protective Jordan was with Emery. He made sure she knew how he felt about her and defended her honor when it was needed. Emery was a little to trusting but she soon proved her strength. These two were great characters! I fell in love with these characters and their stories. I couldn’t put this book down at all, it was that great!
I love college age sports romances. They are usually light and fun. J Nathan has taken this genre to a different level and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors to read. She totally did NOT disappoint with For Emery, the fourth book in the For You series.
We first met Jordan Grady in For Finlay (No you don’t need to read the other books in the series, but really you should as they are all one-click worthy!) and to be honest he was a prick. So I was really interested to see how she would handle Jordan’s story and if I would be able to like him. For the first chapters when you learn about Jordan and Emery’s relationship as kids, J Nathan drew me right in and I was so invested in their story.
For Emery had its fun dialogue and rom-com moments that made me smile and giggle. I especially loved the development of the characters and watching the relationship grow from kids and seeing how they were both affected by distance. For Emery had some real emotional moments that dealt with some deep issues and it was written so well. Boy, did I fall in love with Jordan as I watched him become such a good man as these challenges played out.
Emery and Jordan face so much from their kids, but boy do they overcome and you can’t help falling in love with them and rooting for them. I honestly read this book in one sitting because I just needed to find out how they would find their HOA.
For Emery is another great read from J Nathan. You won’t regret one-clicking! I sure didn’t.
3.5 stars
We finally get some insight into Jordan Grady! I have been wondering if his story would be told since he first appeared in For Finlay.
Grady and Emery’s story is emotional, romantic, and uplifting. After growing up together as next door neighbors, Emery disappears and Grady is hurt and upset. When he sees her again on campus it is their second chance to see where their relationship might go, but years have gone by and they aren’t the same kids that used to be friends.
It was nice to see a different side of Grady than the first three books. He, of course, isn’t perfect but is starting to grow up. I liked Emery too. She felt a little immature, but what college freshman isn’t? Also, the love and affection she has always had for Grady was so sweet.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
OH WOW!!! What a way to start my 2019 read! This book is SUPER AMAZING!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! Yep, it definitely belongs in my top favorites list of all time. I know it’s such a cliche to say this but I was literally hooked from the moment I started reading. Jen really knew how to capture my attention, had me glued to the book and never wanted to let it go. I just had to read it over again after reading the last page coz I couldn’t seem to get enough of this book. I fell madly in love with Jordan and Emery instantly.
I first met Jen when I read “For Finlay”, the first book in this series. I’ve always eagerly tried books from new authors to fall in love with. And “Oh boy!” did I fall head over heels in love with that book and its amazing author. I was immediately captivated by Jen’s beautiful words. Then, my attraction to her style became more intense when I read “For Forrester.” These two books will always have a special place in my heart. Now I have to make room for more of Jen’s books. An easy addition to my top favorites author list.
I’ve always been drawn to “friends to lovers” books. I love the excitement I get with every page I turn trying to guess when the hero and heroine would finally let go; and let their feelings for each other flow freely, and admit that that they love each other in the most intimate way. And YEP! “For Emery” is one of the reasons why I love this kind of trope. A heart warming story about a beautiful friendship between a boy and a girl that started when they were young. A friendship that went beyond what was norm. I love the innocence of the bond they had with a promise to protect, to care and to love.
I had goosebumps and was always giddy while reading this amazing book. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough until I reach the part where Jordan and Emery would finally be a couple. And Wow! My heart was just bursting with excitement and I was smiling like a lunatic when they finally admitted their feelings for each other. I wanted to hug Jordan that exact moment but at the same time wanted to hit him at the back of his head while telling him “What took you so long?” then turn to Emery, hug and kiss her while whispering in her ears “Finally, the wait is over! Don’t ever let him go!” Jordan was the perfect guy for Emery. The epitome of a perfect boyfriend. So thoughtful, so caring and oh so loving. But what I love most about him is that he’s over protective. He would do anything to protect Emery without thinking of the consequences.
When I first met Jordan in “For Finlay”, he was the Grady prick and I hated him for what he did to Finlay. But he definitely redeemed himself to my eyes and my heart in this book. The Jordan I met and fell in love here is not the Grady I despised in “For Finlay”. Aaarrgghh I couldn’t stop talking about Jordan Grady! I just love, love, love him so much!!! And YES! I love Emery just as much. A loving daughter and an amazing friend. Such a straightforward, strong and determined girl who followed her dream.
“For Emery” is a beautiful and emotional love story that touched me deeply and one that will stay with me forever. A smile was plastered on my face and I was swooning like a teenager. Though it got me teary-eyed in some part, still, it was worth every tear I shed. The secondary characters were just as lovable and amazing. Ahem…Jen, this is me hinting for you to consider making a book for Raquel, Abbott and Flip. I would love to read their love stories too (especially Flip).
Two thumbs up to a perfect book that I highly recommend everybody should read. Oh, and one last thing, I would like to applaud Jen for tackling social awareness on domestic violence.
Childhood friends that grow up with the shadow of domestic abuse over them. Events tear the friends apart and when they find each other again they are in college. I enjoyed reading Grady and Emery’s story even with the darkness of the abuse. It was realistically written. Some of the characters from the previous books show up and I’ll need to read those ASAP.
First I want to say that I am kicking myself in the arse for not reading this series. I don’t know why I never heard of this series before because it is amazing. I only read one book and the secondary characters were fabulous! I loved everything about them and I am going to go back and read the series from the beginning.
This is Emery and Jordan’s story and wowzer what a story it is. Jordan has always protected Emery from a young age. Emery has had a crush on Jordan for forever but she knows he only sees her as a best friend until they are in high school and Jordan kisses Emery. But life is a biatch and Emery disappears after that night and doesn’t return for four years.
In those four years Jordan has become a star right tackle and his life is wonderful. He lives it one day at a time and he harbors that hurt and anger over losing Emery. Then when she comes back and seeks him out he is hardened because she broke his heart but Emery had a reason to leave and it is a sad one. After Emery tells Jordan what happens they start to build their friendship back up and Emery hopes it will turn into a relationship because she still loves Jordan.
This book was so sweet. I loved it. Jordan Grady was fantastic and I loved reading how his relationship with Emery grew over the years. I loved them as a couple. She made him want to be a better man. It was a great installment to this series. I love J. Nathan’s books! Definitely recommend.
They’ve listened to each other, been there for each other from a very early age. They grew up together even though he was older, he didn’t make her feel like she was in the way. He made her feel special. When they started to feel more than just friendship they thought they had all the time in the world to see where it was going to go. They were wrong.
When Emery has to leave, she doesn’t only break her heart, she breaks Jordan’s too. This turns Jordan into a man-whore and makes him feel like a gift to women. He’s not shy about it and is pretty proud of the fact.
When he sees Emery again he can’t wait for answers. He needs to know what happened. Will these two get there HEA or will their past get in the way of that? Will Emery’s past keep getting in between them to where it’s too much?
Good second chance romance that will pull at your heart strings.
Emery and Jordan’s story is so heart warming! I liked how J. Nathan gave us a glimpse of their shared past so we have a clear understanding of how the relationship history helped shape their present. Their friendship was so strong and what happened was very bittersweet.
We flash forward a handful of years where Emery and Jordan meet again. Jordan is flabbergasted and doesn’t in the best manner. I thought that quite a bit of this book was from his point of view, and yet I still didn’t feel like I got to know him like I did Emery. I did really like this book, especially Jordan’s solution to help Emery’s mother. I am really enjoying this series.
For Emery by J. Nathan was a second chance sports romance with all the feels. Emery and Jordan knew each other as kids and Jordan quickly became Emery’s protector. They were always there for each other and though she was younger, she always knew she loved Jordan. Then they share a kiss that could change everything, but then she leaves with no word.
Betrayed by her departure, Jordan changes overnight. He is now cocky, arrogant and never lets anyone get close. He is a popular football player at Alabama when Emery returns. But with Emery’s sad past and Jordan’s feeling of abandonment, can they find their way back to each other or is it too late?
I loved Jordan and Emery. From the very beginning you see the connection and love for each other they share. Their journey was not easy an easy one. This was an emotional and touching second chance romance. For Emery by J. Nathan captivated me from start to finish.

Happy reading!
This is the fourth book in this awesome series, and is Emery and Jordan’s story. Since they were young Emery has loved Jordan, and he has always been her protector, but when he kissed her circumstances tore them apart, leaving him bitter, resentful and shutting down his feelings. Now 4 years later these two meet again, and their first meeting did not go at all well. No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed, just be aware of triggers! This is a beautifully written story, which is heartbreaking and emotional and pulls at the heartstrings from the very beginning. Hats’ off to this talented author for penning such a tough topic with such sensitivity and compassion! I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all.
Emery was 8 years old when she moved in next door to 11 year old Jordan. She became his constant shadow and best friend for 6 years and then she disappeared without a word. Jordan went onto play football for Alabama just like he said he would. When Emery shows up at his University at the beginning of his senior year can Jordan forgive her enough to find out what happened all those years ago?
The author took a heartbreaking story of domestic abuse and turned it into a beautiful story of love. J. Nathan created characters that I couldn’t help but fall in love with. The story flowed really well and I basically read it in one sitting. Loved that Emery was a strong woman despite her past. There are some great secondary characters and I am looking forward to checking out their stories too.
This was the first book that I have read by J. Nathan and I LOVED it! For Emery was truly a heart wrenching love story. The drama wasn’t necessarily in the second chance romance but in the abusive family that the female main character Emery came from. Nathan wrote honestly about the trauma that a woman and her daughter went through at the hands of a drunk abusive man and the loving caring family that wanted to help them. All though in real life so many of these types of stories end tragically Nathan gave For Emery a happy ending. For Emery is a 5-star read and is the fourth book in the For You standalone series.
Emery Pruitt was just eight years old the first time she sought protection and shelter in the middle of the night at Jordan Grady’s window. Most nights Grady helped the younger girl into his room so she would have a safe place to sleep and the two became more than neighbors they became best friends. As the years went by Grady knew that Emery had a crush on him, but she was just to young. Emery was “his girl” and he would do anything to keep her safe and to make her happy, then her and her mom just vanished. It’s been four years now since Grady last saw his best friend when Emery suddenly appears again. Grady is determined that she will never leave him again and he is prepared to do anything For Emery to prove it.
J. Nathan wrote a swoon worthy book!! Emery makes every sense of a girl next door… her love for Jordan follows her while she grows up, until she finally gets a chance to be with her “Prince Charming.” I couldn’t stop reading about their story!
Brilliant story. I haven’t read the other books in the series but it didn’t effect my enjoyment of the story.
This had a very good and relatable storyline and it was very well written. I really enjoyed it from start to finish.
A very good story.
For Emery is a great read. I couldn’t put it down once I started it. I had to know what was going to happen. Emery and Jordan were best friends even with the age difference. He was her safe place. Until one night she’s gone, leaving Jordan wondering what happened and heartbroken. Do you think they will meet again? Will they still have the connection towards eachother? Read it to find out!
I really enjoyed this book. I cant wait to read the next book in this series.
If you’ve read any of the previous For You books, you’ve met Grady. And like me, you probably dislike(d) Grady. For Emery is finally Grady’s story. Find out WHY he is the jerk he is and find out who he REALLY is. There is real pain here…for both Emery and for Grady. J. Nathan delves into a subject matter with this story that is all too real and prevalent in our world and she does it with grace despite how difficult it may be. In the end…did I love Grady? or do I still dislike him? Find out for yourselves!
