For Emery
He’s everything you want in the boy next door. He’s every dream. He’s every teenaged hormone inducing wish you could ever have. Their friend was perfect but then she was gone.
Years later, they aren’t the same. Nothing is really. Both struggle with the past and the present in their own ways. But everything he does is For Emery, and hopefully it’s enough.
Sweet and all kinds of swoony, For Emery is soul boosting. It gives you the happy and an encouraging ending too!
This was a nice sweet read. There is a little bit of angst but nothing too overwhelming.
For Emery by J. Nathan might be my favorite book in the For You series to date and I could not stop smiling from ear to ear. This story was so beautifully written and completely heartwarming that it was nearly impossible not to fall head over heels in love with Jordan Grady and Emery Pruitt. These two wholeheartedly stole my heart and I never wanted their story to come to an end. My heartstrings are still being pulled on even days after finishing this phenomenal sports romance.
For as long as I can remember friends-to-lovers romances have been a weakness of mine and when J. Nathan announced that Grady’s story was going to be one I did a little happy dance because I have been eagerly anticipating the chance to hear his story ever since meeting him for the first time in For Finlay. Let’s just say that this story was definitely worth the wait! This story was amazing and there were some parts that left me emotional at times and had me in tears. Those brief tears were certainly worth it!
Grady and Emery’s story is a MUST READ and I cannot freaking wait to see what the author will come up with next!
This is book 4 in the For you book series. Emery moves next door to Jordan since she was 8. She needed a safe place to sleep, away from her abusive stepfather. Emery was always following Jordan. Even said she will be come and watch him front row seats when he plays for Alabama. I loved how sweet this story was. I liked how we got to see how they both grew up and found each other again. Jordan is Emery safe haven. Loved this book from start to finish.
WOW. This is my first book by J. Nathan and I was so totally in-love with For Emery. This is the fourth book in the For You series and unfortunately I haven’t read the others. That said, I am completely thinking of throwing out my blog schedule to read the previous books written by J. Nathan. Would I do this? No, but man, do I want to right now! For Emery can be read as a complete standalone and was a sexy, second chance romance where two friends become lovers. Its told in dual perspectives and Emery and Grady were written with depth and heart. I couldn’t put down my kindle and raced through this one. After circumstances split the pair apart as teens, they are reunited in college and the sparks fly. Their relationship had its share of disruptions but the bond they formed when they were children saw them through those tough times and made their relationship beautiful! This sports romance had it all a swoon-worthy hero, an amazing heroine and a romance that was sweet, sexy and entertaining—it was the whole package and exactly the romance I needed at the time! I personally can not wait to read the books that I have missed in this series and hope to dive in very soon. In the meantime, grab For Emery and start reading immediately!
Once upon a time she seeked shelter at his house. His bedroom became a safe haven for her.
He became the boy who saved her and in return her heart was his, and she gave him her first kiss.
Fate gave her mother a window of opportunity and to gain freedom, her heart was left behind…
Now College is upon her. She remembers every conversation and as their paths cross wonders if he does, is he the same boy?
Wow what a beautiful heartfelt story of shadows and hope. Love and heartache.
Jordan the boy who gave her a safe place, an ear to listen, and offered the hand of friendship. Amazing young man!
Emery surrounded by raised voices, and violence but with a safe haven in him. Such strength and a beautiful heart.
Two characters who will make your heart both soar, and weep.
I read this book really quickly. The story really appealed to me. I loved everything about it from the childhood years through to the college years. Both Emery and Jordan stole my heart and literally ran away with it!
Beautiful, heart warming innocent love. There’s nothing like it.
Young Adult reading at its finest!
4.5 Stars
I’ve been really loving the books in this series because they bring so much emotion. I got so invested in Emery and Grady’s story. I love that they knew each since they were kids. That packs a punch when it comes to these two. Grady won me over, but there is one moment is truly romantic. Trust me you don’t want to miss out on Emery and Grady’s story. Grady really redeems himself from the guy he was.
Sweet. Devastating. Love story. Best friends.
This story is so sweet. Emery and Jordan are such a cute couple. They have a history and it ended unexpectedly. They find each other again and never let go. Emery has been through so much in her life and it hasn’t ended. There is suspense and heart break. There is everything you could possibly want in a romance. Jordan is the epitome of a man who sees what he wants and gets it. He gets her in a loving and kind way and is never afraid to show it.
This story is one everyone should read. Best friends to lovers is always a line pusher, but this is done in a very sweet and romantic way. I loved how protective of Emery he was and the affection he had towards her. You want to strangle them at some parts because you see how much they way each other. They are very stubborn.
Sweet second chance/friends to lovers story! I really liked the characters in this book and the story flowed very well. I loved getting to see the connection between the characters build over several years as kids and then reconnect as adults. Great read!
I am so in love with this book! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m a fan!!! This book will suck you in and keep you glued! I couldn’t put it down. Jordan and Emery were best friends as kids until Emery disappeared with her mom. Four years later she’s back, and they go through Hell together, but come out on top! I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say that this will have you on the edge of your seat!! this book had me crying and laughing, but most of all, it was SWOONWORTHY!!! I highly recommend this book! Now I need to go read the rest of this series! They’re all standalone, but I need to devour this authors books!

~~ 4.5 BUTTERFLY-INDUCING STARS! ~~
“Since I was eight years old, I’d loved Jordan Grady. He was the boy who saved me. The one who protected me. The one who made my darkest days bright.”
I L.O.V.E. discovering books by new-to-me-authors, and J. Nathan scored a MAJOR TOUCHDOWN with FOR EMERY! This swoony second chance sports romance about childhood soulmates who are torn apart by fate, yet reunite amid unspeakable odds, delivered big-time on the heart-throbbing feels, the slow blossoming passion and the angsty, edge of your seat drama !
THE STORY:
Childhood best friends and neighbors Emery Pruitt and Jordan Grady have shared a tight-knit bond ever since a scared Emery climbed inside his bedroom window to escape her painful home life at the age of eight. From that moment on, Emery developed a hopeless crush on Jordan, who was three years older and took on the role of her protector. While Jordan knew he was too old to for his starry eyed “little shadow,” there was always something special brewing between them. And Emery always clung to the hope of one day being his girl.
Then when she turned 15, Jordan made all her dreams come true when he gave his favorite girl her first ever kiss! But then that very same night a traumatic chain of events had Emery fleeing town without a word, leaving an angry and heartsick Jordan behind to pick up the pieces. He went on to pursue his ambitions of playing college football, but never forgot his childhood BFF who took a huge piece of his heart with her.
FAST FORWARD 4 years. Their fates collide once again when Emery, who’s now also enrolled at Alabama University, shows up out of the blue at a campus party at Grady’s house— on the arm of the douchey new quarterback.
Yikes. Let the games begin!!
They have both changed over the years and Jordan, now a jaded star linebacker, barely resembles the sweet, gentle-hearted boy she remembers. But even though he acted like a drink belligerent jerk toward her when he first laid eyes on her again, and has a rep on campus for being a hot-tempered a-hole and a shameless flirt, Emery is still the only girl for him. And when he sees that she is still wrestling with past demons, his protective instincts take over and he vows to break down her defenses and finally stake his claim on her . But as the danger that she’s been desperately trying to outrun catches up with her, can Emery once again find sanctuary with the only boy she’s ever loved?
MY MUSINGS:
Wowza! This achingly tender story about first love, deep abiding friendship and healing past hurts captivated me from start to finish!! Told via dual POV, I found this beautifully woven story to be perfectly paced and I was immediate hooked by the authors engaging narrative, her warm, poignant tone, the breath-stealing unfolding romance and stellar character development. Ms. Nathan also touched on some tough topics with incredible finesse.! And while FOR EMERY is book four in the author’s For You series, I can fully attest that it stands very well on its own.
Gah! These MCs just have such a SWEET, MAGICAL CHEMISTRY and share such a special bond that they gave me giddy butterflies!! Childhood best friend tales have always been a fave trope of mine, because there is just something so intoxicating about the tumultuous journey of lifelong soulmates who reunite after years apart and fight tooth and nail to recapture what they once lost.
And wow do Emery and Jordan they have hurdle after hurdle to overcome! I don’t want to get into specifics to avoid spoiling plot, but let’s just say that this couple certainly have their fair share of pain, trauma, misunderstandings and miscommunication to wade through, but there was never any question in my mind that they are DESTINED FOR EACH OTHER!
“It’s always been you.”
One way that the author really endeared this couple to me was by telling their story chronologically, starting with when they met as kids and spanning over the next decade or so into young adulthood. I truly treasured seeing their entire relationship play out on the page, beginning as pure, innocent friendship that gradually blossomed into the sweet wistful pangs of first love before finally culminating into a full-fledged romance years later after a long, painful separation. And ultimately, the way Ms. Nathan built their relationship and showcased their rich, multi layered backstory not only infused their story with breathtaking emotional intimacy but gave this duo INCREDIBLE ROOTING VALUE!
Sigh. I just SWOONED SO HARD over Jordan!! This hunky college ball player was so sweet and chivalrous, uber charming and swaggeringly sexy. And the thing I found most irresistible about him? That he’d ALWAYS been Em’s knight in shining armor…her soft place to fall in times of trouble. And even though the crushing pain of her abandonment turned him into a bit of a cocky jerk, once they reunited it did not take long for him to revert back to being her noble-hearted dragon slayer!
Emery was a WONDERFUL heroine as well! Sweet and sassy, kind and loving, beautifully damaged yet immensely brave and resilient. But SOB…the hardships she had to endure over the years surge took its toll, and her forced separation from the boy she adored was beyond heartbreaking. And while I got why she had to continue to keep her guard up to once they reunited 4 years later, when she finally allowed Jordan back into her life and fessed up to her true feelings, I was TOTALLY CHEERING FROM THE SIDELINES!
To round out this wondrous love story was a vibrant cast of secondary characters who were an integral part of the plot. I especially loved the thrilling football sequences, the camaraderie and rivalry on and off the field, as well as the interaction with all the MCs family and college chums.
As for the HEA? It was definitely hard fought—with a NAIL-BITING CLIMAX to boot— but once these richly deserving love birds eventually got there, it filled me with Such. Sweet. Bliss. And OMG those TWO EPILOGUES were sheer perfection!
BOTTOM LINE:
FOR EMERY was très magnifique! It you are a fan of enchanting second chance sports romances that make your heart skip a beat and will have you smiling though your tears, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this splendid tale. And now I can’t wait to check out the first three books in the For You series!
Finding your one is more than just finding the love of your life. Finding the one means to find the person who makes you want to be better, finding your soul and best friend all in one. It’s knowing that the road ahead is going to be bumpy and full of unknowns but together you can make it through!
Emery and Grady found that in one another and though they were really young when they came into each other’s lives it was that bond and friendship that pulled them through some of the darkest times. They built one another up and saw that they each achieved their goals!
A very romantic second chance romance
Emery and Grady had been friends since she was eight and he was eleven. They had each other’s back, and each night, Emery would crawl into Grady’s bed for security and safety she couldn’t find in her own house. But they were friends, since Emery was younger than him and totally off limits. Until high school came, and for that one fleeting moment, they finally kissed. I wanted to say and they live happily ever after, but no, because Emery has to leave Grady – disappear from his life without a trace.
It has been years since Grady saw Emery. Now, he was one of the players in Alabama, popular and he could have whoever he wanted. But he only wanted Emery. Imagine his surprise when she suddenly showed up. It felt like an apparition at first, but he couldn’t be wrong – it was Emery. There was no way he was going to let her go this time. Now if only he knew why he disappeared in the first place.
I love them both – I love how Emery believed in him, and believe in them even though they were young. I admire Emery’s determination and strength to withstand everything in her life, her sacrifices for her mom – it was worth it, despite the pain that she might have endure. Grady, we finally get to know his other side, and the things he did when he was younger, and I admit, he’s equally amazing as well. His love for Emery and his loyalty is astounding. When he finally met her the second time around, he did what he could so that he can be with her, and help her in anyway he can.
Just like the rest of the FOR YOU series, FOR EMERY didn’t disappoint. It was another great read. It’s a story of courage and strength, of something that we are keeping ourselves blind of, but is happening in the society. It’s a true story. It’s happening. It weaves it’s lesson through romance and love, and still in between those pages, and in those words, the lesson is screaming – that somehow we must be aware, and do something about it, even in our little own way. For Emery is a story of friendship, fate, trust, survival and love.
I absolutely loved Jordan and Emery’s story! It was very well written with amazing characters, humor, love, drama, and a whole lot of sweetness. The connection that Emery and Jordan share was so perfect starting as kids and continues when they reconnect. A definite must read!
This is book 4 in the series, but the first one for me and I absolutely loved it!! Jordan and Emery grew up together, then circumstances beyond their control , tore them apart. Four years later, their story continues and its a wild rides of twists, turns and drama that you won’t want to put down once you start reading it. If you like second chance romances, this one is for you!
More or less, this book was boring for me.Trust me when I say that I hate when that happens.
Emery and Jordan were nice character,I actually did liked them.I liked Jordan and his personality.I loved Emery too.I loved the conversations between them and how their relationship was,but overall this story was really boring to me.The plot was weak and I couldn’t connect to it.
That’s all.
Emery and her family move in next door to Jordan and his family when she is 8 and he is 11. She starts coming to him to escape the turmoil of her abusive home, and for six years he is her best friend and protector. Then her mother finally gets the courage to leave, and she and Emery disappear into the night with no time for Emery to let Jordan know.
Four years later, she turns up at his college. After an uneasy start, they quickly pick up their old friendship. But there is still danger – her stepfather is out there somewhere. And people change in four years. Can they still be who they were to each other? Can they be more?
I liked Emery so much in this book. I also liked how Jordan, even as a kid, recognized how strong she was for surviving and making the best life she could despite what went on in her home. And the backyard scene after his high school dance was so sweet.
College Jordan and Emery are just as good, once they get the rough parts figured out. Sabrina is a good friend, too.
This was a really good book with a lot of sweet moments, and some powerful ones, too.
This is my first book by J. Nathan, and it is book 4 in the series. The book is a standalone, so it does not have to be read in order. I loved that about this book! Emery and Jordan have grown up together, and he is her safe haven and protector. He’s a bit older than her, so there relationship only pans out to be a friendship with obvious feelings as they enter high school. Unfortunate circumstances cause a separation between them, and the book picks back up as they meet again in college. This book had my emotions on a roller coaster from the beginning, but it is one that I would ride again and again. I highly recommend reading this book. It is beautifully written, and it’s a great read!
Meeting as children Emery fell in love with Grady then and loved him for her whole life. Expecting that they would last forever, Emery had to make a choice that left Grady behind, without a word as to why. Meeting years later, this is the their story. A story of second chances and love found…again. Grady may be a jerk but he has never forgotten Emery and he wont let her go again. A wonderful story of friendship, heartbreak and second chance love.
This is book 4 in the For You series and it features Emery Pruitt and Jordan Grady. Wow! This story is full of those deep-seated emotions that have to do with living in an abusive home. It also has to do with a friendship and love so deep it brings tears to your eyes to watch it. And that’s what it felt like when I was reading, that I was watching it. It’s those moments that are so profound that make you cry those happy tears.
BRAVO J. Nathan! Thank you for writing such an amazing story. I loved EVERY minute of reading it. Fabulous, emotional story line with a great cast of characters. This is my first book by this author and I NEED to read the first three in the series now. If I don’t, I feel as if I’m missing out.
