Grady
I’m Alabama’s star right tackle—and a real prick.
I live my life by a few solid truths.
Life isn’t fair.
Don’t let anyone get too close.
And those who claim to care about you can up and leave.
But you know what they say about things that disappear…
But Emery Pruitt had never been mine.
Even if she had returned after four years.
Older.
Confident.
And more beautiful than the night she vanished.
But it didn’t erase the fact that she’d left me.
So, why find me now?

This is my first time reading anything penned by J. Nathan & call me surprised and amazed because this book literally is just that, amazing! I had procrastinated reading For Emery & I can honestly say that was a mistake because this book was so phenomenal, I should have read it as soon as it was added to my Kindle library. Emery Pruitt was 8 & Jordan Grady was 11 that first night she snuck in his window & found safety, and home, in his arms. That was the night a friendship of a lifetime was born & even though neither realized it at the time, that was the night they each became ‘The One’ for each other. Night after night she found solace from her parents fights & her abusive stepdad in Jordan’s arms. Until that fateful night when Jordan was 17 after they shared their fantastic first kiss, & only later Emery learned of her mom’s plans to finally escape Wayne, Emery’s violent stepdad. Escaping under the cover of night was the only way & Emery wasn’t even allowed to contact Jordan for fear that Wayne would locate them. So Jordan was left to wonder what happened and why Emery never told him she was leaving. After that night, he had everyone call him Grady, and he quickly corrected anyone who referred to him as Jordan, because there was only 2 people he allowed to call him Jordan, 2 people that know the real him ….. his mom & Emery. Tormented, confused, miserable for four long years, Jordan / Grady pushed people away especially with his attitude. That is until that one night in college at a party he’d thrown, when he gazed across a room to the group that just arrived at the party, his eyes met familiar eyes, her eyes, Emery!? Could it really her, Emery? After all, he had been drinking alot. What was she doing at his college? his party? his house? Did she come to find him? Definitely recommend one-clicking this fantastic full length book, For Emery. Although For Emery is book 4 in the For You Series, I did read it as a standalone. J. Nathan does a terrific job on the abusive relationship parts of the storyline, although it may be a trigger for some readers. However, after reading this one, I purchased and ram reading all the other books in the For You Series by J. Nathan, because yes, For Emery is that fantastic!
I did receive a review copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and am voluntarily leaving my own opinion with this voluntary review.
Great book.
I’ve been waiting on Grady’s story for a while now since we got to see bits and pieces of him throughout the other stories. He came off as mean, then a little bit sweeter, but it wasn’t until this story we get to see the heart of Grady and he is a sweet, funny, charismatic, beautiful man. Emery is a sweet soul that carries her love for Grady for years and it never wavers. She brings a change in him where we can see he’s trying to be better and more mature for her. I absolutely loved this story it had its ups, downs, and drama but it was so well written that I felt it all. They have carried a love for each other for so long but can they hold on to it or has the years apart changed them too much? Beautiful story and definitely on my reread list.
“Was that what love felt like? Because I was pretty certain, since I was eight years old, I’d loved Jordan Grady. He was the boy who saved me. The one who protected me. The one who made my darkest days bright.”
I’ve loved all the books in the For You series, but this one is extra special. It touches on a tough topic and did an excellent job of pulling my heartstrings from beginning to end. I especially loved the close connection that Jordan and Emery developed at a very young age that allowed them to accumulate a shared collection of years worth of memories.
As the author placed me inside the minds of the characters as she told their story in dual POV I felt like I was right there. It was so perfect to grow with the characters as their innocence turned into awareness and their friendship turned into love. It was also painful when I knew why Emery disappeared and I couldn’t share my knowledge with Jordan who was suffering from the loss of his best friend and partner in crime.
Emery turned to her next door neighbor in her time of need when she was very young and he didn’t let her down. In spite of her being younger than him, he allowed her to hang around and tolerated the teasing he received for it. He kept her secrets and shared his own. He knew she had a crush on him, but she was too young for him, so he spared her feelings and tried to make her feel special without rejecting her. He thought he had time to wait for her to grow up, he thought she would always be there… until she wasn’t.
This story broke my heart, but the split opened it wider to make room for even more love. I yearned for the lost years to be restored and for their pain to be eased. I struggled to be patient as they dealt with miscommunication and misunderstandings. I raged at the injustice when assholes threatened their safety and their future. I sighed with satisfaction at being reunited with some favorite characters from previous books. Can you tell that I loved it from cover to cover?
I just knew Jordan Grady was going to be my absolute favorite!! His character is so genuinely sweet. In the previous books Grady comes off as a grade A asshole but in For Crosby you get a glimpse of the true Grady.
Grady’ best friend Emery disappeared in him after the most amazing kiss. Not knowing what really happened to his best friend Emery, whom waswas his shadow since he was 11 years old. Feeling ghosted Grady becomes mad at the world.
Emory growing up in abusive home and finds solace with Jordan. He becomes her sanctuary, the place where she feels the safest. after the most magical kiss, something she wanted for so long, she finds herself having to make a choice between her mothers safety or getting to see if her and Jordan have a chance at a HEA.
During Jordan senior year in Alabama he finally comes face-to-face with the only girl he has always cared so much about. Needing to know the truth behind what really happened he seeks her out. When he finds out the truth he vows to ALWAYS protect Emery.
This story takes you on an emotional journey. Jordan will quickly have you swooning. These two are just the perfect couple. I’m hoping there will be more with this series.
I was given a copy of this book by the New Adult Book Club and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘For Emery’ is the fourth book in the ‘For you’ series. Do you have to read the previous books to read this one? Not really BUT I do think that you will miss something if you don’t. Because Grady’s character is also present in those stories. After reading the previous stories, I was really curious about Grady’s story. Because let’s be honest, Grady’s character in those books isn’t really likeable or friendly, so I wonder how his story would go and if I would like it as much as I liked the other books. To my surprise and delight I really liked ‘the Grady’ in this story very much!
The story is told from both POV’s and just like the other stories, there is a theme. This time it’s about abuse in a relationship. A difficult subject but just like in her other books, the writer never took the story to very dark places (for me personally at least). I liked the balance between good/bad and light/dark.
The story started great, it was nice to see how the friendship between Emery and Grady started in their childhood. I liked how the writer build the story but I must confess that I was a little worried at one point. Because everything was going great but then there was a moment where I had my doubts about Emery and the way that she reacted to certain things that was happening but luckily that didn’t lasted long. I appreciated the fact that although we saw new and different sides from Grady, we also saw the ‘old’ Grady now and then. That made his character more believable, more realistic to me. And I liked the explanation that we got for his previous (not so nice) behaviour.
I liked the connection between Emery and Grady. Their friendship and their love.
I love the fact that the writer always gives us epilogues. I love seeing little bits of their future together. If you love new adult books and sports then you really have to try this series.
Five Swoony Stars!!
This book was phenomenal. This is a book about overcoming domestic violence and having a second chance with the one you love the most. This. Ok is filled with so many emotions. You will laugh, cry, and swoon.
Jordan Grady has always loved football. Ever since he was in pee-wee football he knew he was going to play for Alabama when the time came.
Emery was Jordan’s next door neighbor since she was 8 yes old. Jordan’s bed was her escape from her abusive step-father. Jordan and Emery were best friends until the day Emery had to leave with no goodbye.
Four years later Jordan is playing for Alabama and after not having heard from Emery in that long he was a little bit of a loud mouth ahole. But one night at a party his world changes once again. Emery is back in his life.
We follow as these two build their friendship back and watch as these two fall in love. There a few hiccups in their road to happiness and it may take some doing but these two finally get their happy ever after.
Highly recommended.

First, I want to say “HELLO BEAUTIFUL!”, that cover is delicious
And second – where can I find a real life Jordan? He is a dreamboat
This story kept me up well past my bedtime with it’s slow burn goodness. The drama was high, the tension was palpable and it was also sexy, sweet and seriously addictive.
My first J. Nathan read, but I’m already looking forward to the next one!
I loved this second chance story. Two people who have an amazing relationship, torn apart by their circumstances. Emery takes a big chance, they reconnect and then it is fireworks. I love that Jordan knew what he wanted, and did not deviate from that plan. Awesome book. Totally loved it!!
“I wanted only the best for me. And I was willing to wait to get it… and give it.”
I have enjoyed this entire series but this couple tugged at my heart a little more. Maybe because of the second chance romance? I’ve lived that life and can relate.
“I still lived in fear… I wanted him to see me as strong and confident.”
This book is filled with emotion. It will weigh heavy in your heart one minute ~ have you smiling and laughing the next. There are secrets. Heartache. Healing and growth all mixed into this read.
“…people are stronger as a unit. Nothing good comes from working against other people.”
This book is SO SWEET!
I love Emery and Jordan’s story. The sadness is the beginning is totally worth all the happiness you see in the end.
Emery has loved Jordan since she was a little girl. They were best friends. Unfortunately, Emery’s home life wasn’t the best and she is forced to leave behind the boy she loves.
Fast forward 4 years, Jordan has been in a rut ever since his best friend up and disappeared. When he sees her again it’s relief turned to anger. Once he gets the full story, there is nothing he won’t do to protect Emery. He always knew there was something more than just friendship between them and now he can finally show her how he truly feels.
After some unforeseen circumstances, these two come out even stronger and more in love.
Can’t wait to read more 🙂
For Emery is the 4th book in the For You series by J. Nathan. It can however be read as a stand alone. This is how I read it as this is the first book I have read by this author. I must say that I feel like I HAVE to go back and read the others in this series now. IT WAS JUST THAT GOOD!!!
Emery Pruitt was 8 years old when she climbed into 11 year old Jordan Grady’s room to escape from her mom and step dads fighting. Little did she know that when she climbed into his bedroom window that she would be meeting her best friend, her protector and the keeper of her heart forever. This book starts out showing us glimpses of how Jordan and Emery met and how their relationship evolved from kids and best friends, to Emery’s crush and how it effected Jordan when she disappeared in the middle of the night. It picks up in college where Jordan is fulfilling his dreams to play football and all of a sudden Emery is back! But the question is, is Jordan the same person he was when she left him? Will she be able to love him? You have to read to find out. This book tackles some hard issues in a very tasteful and thought out way that you won’t regret reading. All of the characters are really well developed and I can’t wait to go back and read the stories of the secondary characters who’ve already found their HEA.
This book is a fast read that you won’t be able to put down once you pick it up! So curl up and enjoy!!
I loved this story! Jordan and Emery are childhood best friends who lose contact with one another through no fault of their own. Emery and her mother are forced to leave town in the middle of the night, telling nobody, and restarting their lives. When Emery and Jordan reconnect, there’s a lot to talk about before they can get back to who they were.
Everyone needs someone to believe in them. That’s what Emery was to Jordan. From a young age, Jordan was Emery’s protector and safe place, and then she was gone. Losing someone that special to you without warning can change you, and Jordan turned into Grady, harder and more obnoxious. Emery returns and it’s a story about best friends trying to find their way back to each other after life has changed them both.
I enjoyed this story with it’s small town welcome home and second chance at love. I look forward to reading more from this author.
For Emery is book four int he For You series. It can but read as a standalone but if you read previous ones you have meet Jordan Grady already. I love Grady. He’s sexy, broody and grumpy but deep down he’s a nice guy. Grady and Emery knew each others as kids but circumstances split them apart. They are both in college now and their paths cross. Even though the first time they see each other again didn’t goes how they dreamed, I was excited to see where they went from there. Emery has been through a lot. She’s strong. I loved her and Grady together. I knew that there would be some bumps in the road for them but when those bumps popped up I was still surprised. I loved this one and it’s definitely one you should pick up. After reading For Crosby, I couldn’t wait to get Grady’s story, now I’m wondering who will be next.
4.5 Stars
When Jordan Grady was 11 years old he met his next door neighbor, 8 year old Emery Pruitt when she snuck into his bedroom to get away from her mom and step-dad fighting. The two end up forming an incredible bond and become the best of friends despite their age difference.
Then when Jordan is 17 he shares a brief kiss with Emery and then she and her mom disappear in the middle of the night and Jordan doesn’t hear from her again.
When Jordan is attending college at 21 years he sees Emery again and he is not sure if he will be able to let her go again. But both Jordan and Emery have changed, and do they still know each other like they used to? Will Emery’s past catch up with her and how far will Jordan go to protect her?
This was such a great book that got me caught up in so many emotions.
I liked Jordan and loved the relationship he formed with Emery when they were kids and how protective he was over her. I wondered how their relationship would begin to change as the two knew each other so well but I was worried about Emery as she was so much younger than him and Jordan was close to crossing a line between what was legal.
I was scared for Emery and her mom with what they were subject to with Emery’s step-dad, Wayne and I was glad that they managed to escape but when I knew that he was still out there I wondered when he would show up.
I was so happy when Emery and Jordan found each other but it looked like Emery had found someone new, Flip Caruso, the new quarterback for Jordan’s football team and Jordan’s arch nemesis. The difficult part was watching Emery and Jordan both avoid how they felt and trying to figure out how they felt about each other.
My heart broke for Emery’s mom and as soon as Jordan showed up I knew things were going to change and I was so happy!! I was definitely still worried about everyone involved but I loved how much Jordan’s family was there for Emery and her mom.
There was a lot of tension through the book that was caused by the animosity between Flip and Jordan. I hated how the two each had feelings for Emery and that Flip really wanted to see Jordan react in anger to everything in order for him to get kicked off the football team so he could shine.
Towards the end of the book everything went totally intense and I was freaking out so bad!! My heart broke for both Emery and Jordan and I couldn’t believe what happened to Jordan. My heart was splitting into two with how much he was going to lose. I loved what Sabrina and Emery did for him after that to show support!
The very end was incredible and I loved it!! The book and characters definitely grabbed a piece of my heart! – By Rebecca
I enjoyed this book! Another new author for me. This is the 4th in a series but they must be able to be read as standalones because I haven’t read any of the other ones.
Emery and Jordan were friends until Emery had to disappear with not even a goodbye.
Fast forward to college when they find each other again.
It isn’t an easy road for either one. Mistakes are made, words are said and time can heal or can it?
OMG!! SPEECHLESS!! J. Nathan is a New Author for me and She Had me Intrigued from the Very Beginning of the Book! I love childhood friends to lovers books and this One was No Exception!!
Emery Pruitt crawled into Jordan Grady his next door neighbor’s window one night at the age of 8yrs Old and was his shadow every since. Until One Stormy Night, Emery at 14yrs up & left in the middle of the night with her Mom. The next day Jordan at age 17 was devastated to find out that she disappeared without Notice. From there on Jordan downward spiralled to good boy to bad boy reputation.
Moving on into College, now Grady plays football and his future is looking bright! Before the New semester started, there’s Huge House Party and Grady seemed to notice a certain blonde that he would Never See Again. Emery has been wanting to see Him after 4 years off the grid and now recognizing a “drunk” Jordan Grady which makes her disappointed in him.
FOR EMERY is Beautifully written and deals with domestic violence & alcohol abuse which may trigger for Some. It’s an Suspenseful Epic story that will give you an Emotional Rollercoaster ride of your life!
I’m Definitely going to be looking out for more of her Writing and CANNOT WAIT TO read more from this series which All can be Read as Standalone.
J. Nathan did a fantastic job with this book. I love love loved it. From beganning to end it had me captive. A must read.
