When my best friend died of cancer just before her eighteenth birthday, she left her coveted bucket list to me.
The things she already crossed off? Skinny dipping, going to Paris, completing the local hot wing challenge, road tripping to the ocean, and sending out a message in a bottle.
So, it falls on me to finish it for her, to honor her memory. In the next year, it’s my mission to:
Dye my … mission to:
- Dye my hair
- Have sex
- Camp out in a tent
- Go bungee jumping
- Get revenge on Lincoln Kolb
Most are doable, some terrify me, and then there is the last item on the list. When the raven-haired football god dumped my best friend during senior year of high school, she was devastated. The jerk with charm for days found out she was sick, and betrayed her in the worst way possible.
But he doesn’t know me, I went to school a town over. Now, to fulfill my promise, I’m the newest freshman on the campus where he is the big man. If there is one thing, aside from cheap beer, that a jock can’t pass up, it’s a shiny new girl.
So when I catch his eye, play hard to get, and then fall into his bed, I know my scheme is working to perfection. But what Lincoln can’t see coming is the beatdown I have planned for his ice-cold heart.
Unfortunately, what I never saw coming was the one he had planned for mine.

This is a MUST read new adult sports romance! You feel for Henley’s loss and her unwavering loyalty to her best friend. I loved the banter and angst between Henley (Jimmy) and Lincoln (Stallion). This book is highly entertaining and I recommend picking up this book!
Fool Me Twice by Carrie Aarons will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
Leave it to Carrie Aarons to have me a crying mess not even past the first chapter. Fool Me Twice is an emotional story that had me in tears. Henley and Catherine were best friends since they were 3 years old. But what do you do when before your best friend who’s more like your sister wants you to finish her bucket list since she won’t be around anymore to finish it? Ugh!! Tissues please…
The hardest item on the list was getting revenge on Lincoln Kolb. What Henley wasn’t expecting was the chemistry between Lincoln and how hard this decision was doing to her. Lincoln Kolb, the handsome talented freshman football player on campus. Lincoln is very sure of himself, but his life gets turned upside down when he meets Henley. These two have chemistry even when Henley tries to deny it. Get ready for their roller coaster ride.
This was such a great story that had me in tears, swooning, laughing out loud. I loved every page and couldn’t put this book down.
This story was heartbreaking in the beginning and I was a little leery in how this would all play out but leave it to Carrie Aarons to make this angsty and revengeful story play out perfectly! I adored Henley from the beginning and it took a while for me to fall for Lincoln, the cocky jock. Their story is an emotion filled rollercoaster that made me cry and laugh! Well done Carrie, well done!
Another amazing story from Carrie Aarons!! Fool Me Twice is so different from the last few releases and I enjoyed it immensely!
Catherine was Henley’s best friend. From three years old through her death at age 18. Cancer took Catherine from Henley and the rest of her loved ones, but she did leave Henley with a bucket list to finish for her.
Lincoln is on his way to the rest of his life. He is expecting girls to come easy, life to be a blast, but football to take a lot of work. So when he finds this blond haired vixen at the first party of his college career he has no idea what will come next.
I really enjoyed Lincoln and Henley’s banter and the development of their relationship. The anticipation of the big bomb of information was some to behold. I really couldn’t put this book down! Job well done Carrie Aarons! I loved it!
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING!!!
From reading the blurb, I just knew this book was going to be the best. Carrie Aarons just made my heart skip a beat and made me fall so in love with these characters that I just want to reread this book over and over again.
Fool Me Twice is about a girl trying to live her life, but also accomplish a list of things her friend didn’t get to do before she died. One of those things is getting back at Lincoln for hurting her. When Henley goes out to get her revenge, the last thing she expected was to fall for the one guy who she thought was a heart breaker. Lincoln is everything, I loved how funny, sweet, and just perfect he is. He has done things in the past that might not be okay, but when he meets Henley everything changes.
This book was sweet, romantic, and jaw dropping epic. It was a story about life, love, and chances. This book truly deserves way more than 5 stars!!
Fool Me Twice is a great read. Henley is a great friend. She lost her best friend Catherine and she’s determined to finish Catherine’s bucket list for her. She’s a down to earth. She’s dealing with grief in a way she needs to do. One of the things Catherine’s bucket list in to Get revenge on Lincoln Kolb. Lincoln is a good guy. When I was reading, I was like he seems so nice how could he do what Catherine said he did . Getting revenge on Lincoln is not easy because Lincoln and Henley actually have a connection. I fell for these two and was so nervous about what would happy when the secrets came out.
I thought I was prepared for this story, but I wasn’t! I didn’t expect the twist and the direction it took, but boy what a ride! I fell in love with this story within the first few chapters!
Henley has a plan for revenge based on a promise to her best friend before she died. Then she actually met Lincoln Kolb. Her scheme seemed to be moving along as planned, but she never planned on falling for Lincoln. A great story of young college love, loss and heartbreak, revenge and forgiveness. A must read.
4.5-stars
Fool Me Twice by Carrie Aarons was such a fun and emotional surprise. Catherine and Henley have been best friends for what seems like forever. Then tragedy strikes and Henley decides to complete her friend’s bucket list. But the last item on the list is a big one. Get revenge on one Lincoln Kolb for breaking Catherine’s heart. But you know what they say about best laid plans.
Henley and Lincoln had such great chemistry, even if Henley wants to deny, deny, deny. What follows is a fun, sweet and charming story that was so much fun to read. Watching them fall was everything. Carrie Aarons gave us a story that was delightfully written and captivating from start to finish.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Get revenge on Lincoln Kolb.
Out of all the items on the list, this one turns out to be the hardest. Not because the act of revenge is hard, but because the unthinkable happens: Henley falls in love with Lincoln. Talk about making things complicates.
I was prepared to dislike Lincoln. We are made to think that he’s not a nice guy. And he might be a freshman, but he’s already the big man on campus. He loves the attention from everyone, but especially the ladies. So when he meets Henley and she could care less who he is, that of course that piques his interest.
From the moment Henley meets Lincoln, she has him on the hook. He’s fascinated by her and quickly realizes that he wants a relationship with Henley. She’s hesitant to form anything serious with Lincoln, but she can’t help herself. He’s actually very sweet and loving, which is the opposite of what she thought.
I really enjoyed this story. I always enjoy Carrie’s NA books. It’s emotional at times, but also quite funny and full of heart. She also has a knack for writing teenagers. Henley and Lincoln are in college and they are written as such.
Fabulous but..
I have mixed feelings about this book.
Don’t get me wrong ,I enjoyed this story very much but it frustrated the hell out of me.
Surprisingly it took me a while to warm up to Henley for some reason maybe it was because I really liked Lincoln, and I just found the whole revenge thing a bit cruel.
But I suppose that is what stories are meant to do right? Make you feel a whole plethora of emotions and not always the good ones….I did feel the good emotions too .
Carrie has written a very addictive book , because I couldn’t put it down it entertained me throughout.
The chemistry between Lincoln and Henley was explosive and they were a formidable force, that even Henley couldn’t deny.So what began as revenge towards Lincoln soon became clear to her that he was not the person she thought he was.
Which led to her being conflicted with her loyalty towards her best friend and to the man she was falling in Love with…sigh it is a rollercoaster readers but it is well worth the ride it takes you on..there are a number of ups and downs you will laugh and cry and want to scream..especially at Henley I did..
Its a remarkable read with complex characters and a plot that will captivate your imagination I Loved it.
Amazing .
Fool Me Twice was an emotionally intense, angsty, steamy novel that will hold your interest until the end. Henley and Lincoln’s story will evoke a range of emotions from you and give you all the feels. They had instant chemistry and you will love the back and fort banter between them. These characters will captivate you and the story will consume you. This new adult college romance about finding love where you least expect it was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of NA romance.
I LOVED Henley and Lincoln’s book! What started off as just an item on Henley’s BFF’s bucket list turned into so much more! I’m going to keep this short and sweet so I don’t give anything away…if you love smart, sassy, strong women this is for you! If you love yummy alpha jocks (that can be super sweet) this is for you! Throw in a bit of drama and it is the perfect book!
This beautiful enemies to lovers story had me by the blurb when I saw it soooo long ago and I couldn’t wait to get a hold of this book and when I finished it I wasn’t disappointed I wanted more. Henley has a goal to achieve get revenge on Lincoln for what he had done to her best friend, make him fall in love with her and dump him but also achieve what she didn’t while her best friend wasn’t alive on the bucket list. What she didn’t expect and realize was that she would be falling in love with him just as much as he was. From the moment they met they had an instant connection which she kept denying as she felt guilt knowing what Lincoln had done and what she had been told of him. This book made me laugh, smile, swoon then cry not only of sadness and happiness. It was an emotional rollercoaster knowing these two were soul mates but the lies kept them apart. I received this as an arc and I would happily read it over and over again. This was the second book of Carrie Aarons and it won’t be my last.
Fool Me Twice will touch on emotion possible. A reverse bully/sports romance that is very well written. Everything about this book will stick with you days after you’ve read it.
Right off the bat Fool Me Twice is emotional. A teenage girl, Henley, is in the emotional depth of having just lost her best friend to cancer. The heavy weight of what she is feeling right at the moment sets off why she carries the vendetta for the remainder of the book and it’s a good reminder, even when you question why Henley would continue such a path. She isn’t a bad person, she is wrapped up in grief and grief will ultimately make you do some crazy things.
In a romance industry that is saturated with bully romances, I loved that Carrie Aarons reversed this idea and gave us a female bully. Henley sets out to destroy Lincoln, that is her main purpose. She may use different tactics than a male bully would, but honestly, as a female character, that is the point. Women are different and luring men in to whatever purpose and catching them is an entirely different process then men would use. For instance, there is a conversation between Lincoln’s friends about how frustrating women are (Lincoln has been trying to figure out why Henley is so hard to pin down – which is her ploy) and all of these men are talking about how to win women over which is a classic conversation in itself, especially when one of his friends misquotes the common phrase “men are from Mercury and women are from Venus”. He thinks Mercury is closer to Venus so Mars already doesn’t makes sense to him so why compare planets to people. You see what I’m getting at? Lincoln is baffled by Henley just as much as his friends don’t understand women. Yes, this book is funny on top of pulling at your emotional heartstrings. You will fall in love with Lincoln along with falling in love with Henley (the girl who you might want to hate).
Even though Henley is cast as the bully, she is loveable and is hurting from losing her best friend. While she is there to break Lincoln’s heart, she isn’t really malicious about it. Their relationship is one that grows organically and Henley constantly has talks to herself about what a potential bitch she might be for what her ultimate goal is. So, like I said, while I call this a reverse bully romance, because ultimately the end result is the same, you also side with her some of the time. Like any good bully romance I did question the bully a lot…you might even want to throw your book across the room and just so you have time to process her evil plans. Oh, yeah, that’s when you know the story is that good, right!
Lincoln and Henley are wonderful characters and their friends round out the book to make this a full, rich story. You will really love this book from beginning to end, no doubts about it.
Carrie Aarons just gets better with each new book. Fool Me Twice is the latest romance and it packs a punch. Henley and Lincoln kept me turning the pages. What starts as a revenge romance develops into an all-the-emotions romance. It didn’t take much for me to become invested in Henley’s story. I couldn’t help but want to know what was going to happen next.
Revenge and surely heartbreak.
So going in I was afraid that I would really like Lincoln and not be keen on Henley’s revenge plan. Yep – totally loved Lincoln even though he was brash, cocky, and arrogant – underneath he was a great guy with confidence. But then when you saw his vulnerable moments – oh man! Heart eyes. Leave it to Carrie Aarons for not leading me astray.
Henley – while I didn’t like what she was doing – I did understand trying to be true to your best friend and she had convinced herself that Lincoln was truly a bad guy. Should she have realized that wasn’t true sooner – yes – but that is what the story was about.
When the truth comes out – it’s not pretty. But then I think the story gets real and you see both of them hurting and having to realize if they can work through that. Both Lincoln and Henley have to examine their actions and what led them to what happened.
I absolutely loved the story and felt it was less a revenge story than a NA romance that started out on false pretenses.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
Carrie Aarons is just one of those authors whose books click with me, and I’ve enjoyed one heck of a streak, falling in love with her stories ever since I first discovered them back in 2016. I guess I was bound to come across one that I wasn’t going to be as smitten as I was with her other books. Allow me to point out, though, that I was intrigued by the premise of Lincoln and Henley’s story, and I was curious to see how everything would unfold. If any author could pull it off, Aarons was certainly one of them. For the most part, she did exactly that and I found myself eager to see how the truth would be revealed and how the two would reconcile everything. Alas, I was not a fan of Henley’s. Sure, I knew going into the book that she would do what she did. It’s right there on Cat’s bucket list after all. But I felt that it went on for longer than it had to and the ending felt rushed. So yes, it did take away a bit from my overall enjoyment of the book. All things weighed and considered, however, Fool Me Twice still gets four stars.
Henley is doing it all for Catherine; the college, the bucket list, the boy, it’s all for her, to finish what she couldn’t when cancer took her away too soon. They seem like easy tasks, especially with her aching heart and her angry grief. The list, her memories of Catherine’s hurt about being dumped by Lincoln though, they don’t prepare her the enigma that is the future football star on campus. Their chemistry is instant, the banter and wit they share makes it seem possible, but when emotions get involved it gets harder for Henley to mark the final item on the list off. Lincoln can’t take his eyes off the girl, no college party, no football game, no ball bunny compares to her, but he doesn’t know that the guarded look in her eyes is meant to be his undoing. When the task is complete it will be the ultimate test of their hearts.
“Unfortunately for Lincoln Kolb, he has no idea the door her just openly invited me to walk through.”
I knew within 10% that this book was different and it sure was; Fool Me Twice is Carrie Aarons’ very best. A new adult standalone filled with heart, Fool Me Twice is the story of Henley and Lincoln and the relationship that wasn’t so much up to fate as it was planned. Somehow Fool Me Twice is just the right combination of sweet romance, college hilarity, and heart-wrenching grief, it’s pages of authentic college experience marked by the poignant loss of a best friend. Henley is so loyal to her friendship with Catherine, it’s honest and real feeling, but it also means that she isn’t loyal to her own heart. Henley’s individual story, her perspective, is one of the best coming-of-age stories I’ve ever read and the romance with Lincoln, and his perspective of the whole thing, really brought it to life for me. 18 and losing a best friend, starting college, trying to follow a list that has stayed young while one has matured. It was just incredible, I felt like I was there, I fell for Lincoln and Henley just as they fell for one another, and I fell for this book.
“Because Henley Rowan is going to be a hard nut to crack … though she was smooth as velvet in my bed.”
Carrie Aarons captured that feeling of the college experience, of falling in love, of picking up yourself after hitting the ground so perfectly. There’s no insta-love, no love-triangles, no classic over-the-top college scandal to rock the couple, just an honest love story that felt like it could happen in real life. I devoured this book in one sitting and I think you’ll find you will too, it’s just that good.
What would you do for your dying best friend? What sorts of promises would you make? This is what Henley is faced with when her best friend loses her battle with cancer as a teenager. Out of this tragedy comes revenge, or is it redemption? Aarons writes the story in such a way that it is hard to determine which way it will go for most of the book. In addition, there is a twist that took me totally by surprise, and made Lincoln and Henley’s story that much more exciting to read.
I loved getting to know Lincoln and Henley. Theirs is a coming of age story that demonstrates that not everything is as it seems, and growing up and letting go are hard to do, but made easier when you find clarity in life situations. Carrie Aarons is the queen of sexy romance and messy life situations. She wrote a story that is unique, full of passion, and kept me reading late into the night. I devour every book she writes enthusiastically, and I highly recommend this fabulous book.
