The page-turning psychological thriller from the author of #1 bestsellers The Magpies and Because She Loves Me.
It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, a final adventure before settling down. But after a perfect start, an encounter with a young couple on a night train forces Daniel and Laura to cut their dream trip short and flee home.
Back in London, Daniel and Laura vow never to talk … and Laura vow never to talk about what happened that night. But as they try to fit into their old lives again, they realise they are in terrible danger—and that their nightmare is just beginning…

I love how Mr. Edwards’s novels always have a surprise type ending. You never know what to expect when you read his novels. I am always left with an open mouth after I finish reading and want more. I usually need some time to process what I have just read. I have read about 5 of his books and In Her Shadow is on my top 5 list of books to read this month.
This is my second Mark Edwards book and will be reading more. If your looking for a good book, this is it
I really liked this book! It pulls you in right away, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and had several twists that I would have never guessed were coming. I highly recommend it!!
A real who done it to the last page!
Plenty creepy and you don’t feel any better at the end.
This was the first and still the best Mark Edwards book that I’ve read. Once they main characters got off the train and disappeared into the Russian forest, it became unputdownable. Fantastic (but terrifying!).
FOLLOW YOU HOME by Mark Edwards tells the story of Daniel and Laura. A British couple who are travelling through Europe on a last hurrah before they settle down and do the baby thing. A chance encounter in Romania leads to a terrifying experience that follows them home (duh!) to London and threatens their very existence.
The book started with a gripping hint of the supernatural, which drew me in. But then the narrative drive slowed to a crawl, and the plot morphed into a psychological thriller. This made for a confusing read, and when a third genre in the shape of torture porn popped up, it became stomach-churning.
It doesn’t help that there are few likeable characters (or countries!) in this book. Romania should sue for defamation, libel, and serious damage to their tourism industry.
And if we were handing out Darwin Awards, our two leads would win hands down because Daniel is as thick as mince, and Laura is both selfish and stupid. Boy, do they make some dumb decisions, and they are spineless, inept and woefully lacking in common sense. Yes, they witnessed something terrible, but that’s no excuse for acting like a pair of prize plonkers.
We don’t learn the true horror of what they saw until the climax. Along the way, the author throws red herrings in all directions, which kept me engaged. Shame the build-up was let down when the great reveal was delivered in the style of a Bond Villain explaining his dastardly deeds to a chicken-trussed 007. Spoiler alert: the chicken survives.
But, it’s not over yet because the epilogue lobs in a twist that will make you go “wow” or “meh” depending on how much you enjoyed the book.
If you want a mildly entertaining yarn, go for it. But read quickly and don’t over analyse the text.
Really terrific book. Edwards is a really talented writer and it shows.
Well written.
Definitely kept my interest but it dragged on.
I will be honest. I am not a fan of horror fiction. It is no fun being terrified, and it seems incongruous to me that someone would do it voluntarily. Even more so that someone would pay good money for the experience. That’s not a criticism, just a pertinent observation. That is why I love books like Follow You Home.
Daniel and Laurel take a leisurely trip through Europe. While on a train to a destination in Romania they encounter another couple… and all hell breaks loose. After the sudden eviction from the train they encounter a horror that follows them back to London. The author does an excellent job of creeping the reader out without relying on the supernatural to advance the plot.
Without revealing spoilers Daniel and Laura’s fight to reclaim their lives and their sanity reveals monsters far worse than any made-up vampire or zombie. The terror you feel is magnified when you realize the situation Daniel and Laura encounter in Romania, and again in London, is going on in for real in dark corners of the world we don’t like to think about.
There are triggers in this book. Abduction, rape, the murder of innocent children. There is also a lot of profanity. If these things bother you, you might want to skip this book. But if you want a delicious thrill ride that unspools like an intricately knit sweater, Follow You Home will provide all the goosebumps without the bumps in the night.
One of the creepiest books I’ve read in a while. There’s a lot of psychological stuff going on. Plenty of twists & turns, nothing is what it seems and the end is a surprise. An interesting read, but I really hate it when authors have characters who appear to be fairly smart, do dumb things to further the plot. To name one, break into my apartment, I’m getting an alarm system, cameras etc.
This book disappointed me. After finding out what the “unimaginable terror” was, it fell flat and bored me.
5 stars amazing
This story did not go the way I expected it at all. Lots of twists and turns. Interesting premise and a haunting story. I can always be assured of a good read with a Mark Edwards story.
Haunting story, but thrilling too. Great, interesting characters, and very unpredictable. Page turner for sure! Easy to read and well written! Recommend for a great psychological thriller!
Loved it!!!!
This book quickly pulled me in and totally engrossed me. I had to keep reading to figure things out. The climax of the book arrived and left me breathless as I followed the 2 lead characters through everything. But it was the very ending that did me in…it left me haunted and dazed. Still days later I am still remembering how the author carefully revealed the truth to the readers. At first it was just a casually mentioned thing, but it became so much more.
I was caught off guard and alarmed. I wanted to jump into the book and warn the main character because I knew what he did not, but the book ended. And I was left wondering what was going to happen next. AND THAT is what made this compelling, must-read fiction.
While on vacation a couple meets some strange characters on a train. It pretty much all goes bad from there. The author does a pretty good job building suspense. It is a little violently graphic in a few places but certainly not way over the top. This is not a great novel but it is an easy read and great for vacation, the beach or the pool.
Your imagination takes over reading this book……and when the real story, in all its layers, is told…it is worse and leaves the reader a bit sad, distressed and thinking about Laura and Daniel.
Laura and Daniel are traveling and meet Ion and Alina on a train in Romania. Alina, Laura and Daniel are thrown off without passports and left to find a safe place. Not the house in the woods.
Laura and Daniel make it back to England very different. They separate, become haunted, not functioning, and seem a bit off. And then Laura tells Daniel the evil they saw has followed them back. From the house in the woods.
Daniel tries to quit drinking and sees a therapist….but her home burns down with her and her husband in it. Laura is staying with friends Rob and Erin but tries to kill herself. Daniel’s apt. is broken into several times. Telling people what happened may lead to their deaths…so they keep the secret until the evil comes after them. The tension keeps building and you want to put the book down….do not start this book at night…you won’t sleep.
Romanian history comes into play here and is a tragic reminder of war crimes. The plotting is excellent, the twists are shocking and the ending is a bit too realistic in the knowledge that life does not always end the way you want.
I recommend it but not for someone easily upset. This author knows how to create tension and keep it going!!
