I’m always up for a good spy thriller and Foliage did not disappoint! High finance meets international espionage. I admit: normally high finance would make my eyes immediately gloss over. Not the case here! Ms. Evanoff has crafted a great, taut page-turner and Louise Moscow is a fantastic, layered character. Highly recommend.
A new heroine to celebrate!
I am a long time, avid reader of thrillers, and always searching for new/different authors of such. When I found out a high school classmate had written a couple of books, I just had to check it out!
Lorraine, I am still reading Pinot Noir (and thoroughly enjoying it so far), but you did not disappoint with Foliage! It’s a bit different than many of the other authors that I’ve read, in that I feel it causes the reader to reach deeper intellectually, digging into the world of international banking and forensic accounting. Forensics of any kind have always fascinated me, but Foliage has opened a whole new world!
Louise Moscow is one more heroine I am excited to be following! Foliage was a great introduction to her and I’m looking forward to watching her character further develop in Pinot Noir, and hopefully more to come after that!
If you like thrillers, I highly recommend you check out Lorraine’s first book, Foliage and be sure to follow it up with the second in the Louise Moscow series, Pinot Noir! I’m sure you will enjoy them as much as me!
Thank you, Lorraine, for sharing one of your many talents with me and the world!
A great slow boil espionage thriller set against the backdrop of an infamous international banking scandal. Foliage is an intoxicating blend of fact and fiction: the historical conspiracy is immaculately researched, leaving no stone unturned. Whilst the sheer scale of the scandal is jaw dropping, what’s more horrifying is that it seemed to be an open secret amongst most banks and governments of the time. Evanoff doesn’t skimp on characterisation or spectacle either… Louise Moscow is a strong protagonist, whip smart yet philosophical, direct yet distinctively feminine. And she’s certainly living the high-life, visiting exotic locales – from Paris to Brunei – that you can pretty much touch and smell. The set pieces are great too, my favourites being a scuba dive off the coast of Cayman Brac that goes awry and a daring escape through the Catacombs of Paris. There’s also plenty of steamy romance, with many suitors vying for Moscow’s affections. This is a smart move narratively, as it offsets Foliage’s epic scope with something far more intimate and relatable. My only complaint with the novel is that Evanoff leaves us on a rather cruel cliffhanger. Bring on book 2!
