They say everyone has either an addiction, obsession, or weakness in this world. Something that can penetrate you down to the core and influence you in a way nothing else can. I have all three. One happens to be her. Kit Bishop is in my veins. But unfortunately for me, she’s the drug I’ll never be able to indulge in and the high I can’t chase. Because I’m a liar. A thief. And I’ve destroyed … liar.
A thief.
And I’ve destroyed everything that’s ever been mine.

Complicated Parts is a Trilogy that tells Preston and Kit’s story. ‘Fold’ happens concurrently with Complicated Hearts and gives more insight into Preston’s story while Asher, Landon, and Breslin wrote their own. I recommend you read Complicated Hearts first.
This was a really slow burn. Both main characters have serious issues from their past and their presents. Add to that, the women they both call girlfriend has been cheat on both of them with each other and now she’s pregnant. The storyline drew my attention and I enjoyed but even with the drama I felt like I was waiting for something to happen.
Complicated is the perfect word to describe this series.
Ashley does an amazing job of bringing us an angsty story full of emotion.
Kit, sure of herself and her sexuality, she’s just looking for love and she’s certain she wants a relationship with a woman. That is until she meets a man that makes her feel all the feels.
Preston, the gambling rich dude who doesn’t have a care in the world. Until he does.
We get to follow along and see how their worlds collide and intertwine with one another.
Definitely recommend for those who love to watch the story unfold slowly but you know it will be worth it when you get to the end.
Fold (formally known as Complicated Parts #1) is the first book in the Complicated Parts series. This book features Preston and Kit and is told from both perspectives.
Preston and Kit meet when they find out their girlfriend is cheating on them with each other. Kit is a lesbian, and Preston believes he got his girlfriend pregnant. Kit had asked the same girl to marry her, and they both take it hard that the girl in question cheated on both of them. They develop a bond between them due to this girl.
However something tragic happens and they are both there, and they are there for each other during this event. But something happens after this event that tears them apart.
Three years later, they are both dealing with life in the best way they can. One night something happens to both of them, and they just happen to run into each other.
I’m really curious to see what happens next between these two characters! They both have been through some things, and I want to see if they come out on top. This book kept me wanting more.
Preston and Kit .. omg holy crazy . This book is so back and forth but in the best way . They like each other they hate each other … but then there is this undertone of I secretly care about you . The bike ring these two do is so funny . The story takes on a serious tone with a school shooting and friendships are put to the test . Family secrets and control also take Kit and Preston to a whole mother I hate you .:. No I like you . I love this book and can’t wait to read book two .
Kit Bishop is an addiction, the one woman he can’t forget, no matter how hard he tries. By all rights they should be enemies, he shouldn’t want to spend time her, let alone talk to her, but he does. One heartfelt conversation, and she managed to sneak past every wall he had in place, and weaseled herself so far into his heart, that he feels like it is impossible to excise her.
But having a relationship with her is darn near impossible, as he isn’t her type at all… and it’s downright depressing. At this point he’d settle for friendship, but can he really be friends with the enemy?
Fold is a beautifully constructed story that will completely catch you off guard, it’s emotional words laced with an heaviness that will rattle your core, and linger long after you find the last page. The union between these two is completely unconventional, the deck is stacked against them in almost every way it could be, but they just can’t seem to stay away. Their lives are entwined in ways they never wanted them to be, but now that they are, they don’t want to let go. In each other they find a peace they have known, a connection that is undeniable, and one they fight every step of the way. It’s an impossible situation they find themselves in, and I hope they can find themselves on the happier side of it.
Something about the synopsis for this one spoke to me, I like my stories heavy on emotion and angst, and I just had a feeling this one was going to have that in spades… and boy did it ever. Once I found the words I found it almost impossible to pry my eyes away, I had to know more, even if it meant a few less hours of sleep. I cannot wait to see what the second installment holds for these two, it’s hard to see it working the way I want it too, but I am holding out hope that fate starts to deal these two a better hand, cause god knows they deserve it! Highly recommend!
Preston and Kit’s story captivated me, it hooked me up from the start and it kept me going. A very unique story with characters that you simply fall in love with. You will get through all the emotions you can possibly imagine and then some. The chemistry and banter were fantastic. This is a book you will love and a series you must read!
“’ , . , ?”
A volatile ride from beginning to cliffhanger.
I read this years ago, gave it 5 stars and never left a written review. With the release of book 3, it’s time to binge the entire series and find out what really is up with Preston & Kit.
Inexplicably drawn to one another, events in their lives have entangled them in something neither of them wants.
A burn, an obsession, something that can never happen. Jade has been one of my favorite authors for awhile now, but this series is probably my favorite.
Preston and Kit have a genuine connection but they can never be friends. Complicated doesn’t even begin to describe their relationship. This pager turner really packs a punch and after that cliffhanger ending, I need to know what happens next. I can’t wait to read Bluff, Book 2 of the the Complicated Parts Series.

“Everything’s a gamble, love most of all” -Tess Gerritsen
This wasn’t a conventional love story and the truth is that I couldn’t characterize as a love story at all at this point…
This was the beginning of a great love story and a sort of introduction to these new unbelievable characters that have the ability to make you their slaves!!!!
Ashley Jade has a unique way with storytelling and I am addicted to her stories!!!
“Love isn’t complicated, people are.” -Unknown
This story was soooo complicated…
Honestly, I don’t know where to begin explaining this strange situation, so I won’t!!!
Trust me, it is better to go into this story blindly…. The experience of that act will be rewarded…
The only sure thing is that in here, there were two magnificent creatures, Preston and Kit, who couldn’t be more different…
“You and me and never us: a complicated series of almost interactions.” -William Bolitho
These two were kind of enemies, but one fateful night led them to cross each other paths and to have an instant connection… But the bad blood between them were always in between and their connection was shattering into the mess that their lives were…
These two were impossible to end up together or is there a chance after all???
“You’ll never be her knight in shining armor. As far as she’s concerned, you’re nothing but the villain.”
I loved Preston and Kit very much…
They were authentic in a way…
Kit is different and she has her heart on her sleeve and that is not always a good thing… People are taking advantance of that!!!
She just want to be loved and I just wanted to hug her…
The only bad thing is that she can not realize that she catched the eye of a notorious player and she is refusing to acknowledge their connection as to be something more bigger than hatred…
“Please don’t hurt me.”
Preston is not a bad guy, even though he likes the others to think so…
He is an addicted gambler and at this moment, his life is kind of a mess…
He doesn’t need Kit Bishop into his life to make a mess, but after one true and raw encounter with her, she managed to borrow under his skin and took a residence inside of him…
He just have to stay away from her in order to protect her and himself…
“Kit Bishop is in my veins. But unfortunately for me, she’s the drug I’ll never be able to indulge in and the high I can’t chase.”
I loved this story even though it gave me so little to go through…
But honestly, I’m bouncing from excitement for the next part…
I need to know how Kit and Preston will end up and I’m craving to see more of their connection!!!!
They might ended up to fold in here, but I know that they have more to give on the table of love!!!
“We started with a simple hello, but ended with a complicated goodbye.” -Unknown

Series review:
Not only have Kit and Preston had a long and complicated journey to this show stopping finale, but author Ashley Jade herself has had quite a journey in writing this trilogy. But every word, every moment, was worth the wait. And, like so many other stories told by this unique and bold story teller, this series was nothing like I expected, yet somehow everything I needed. With every passing page, Ashley made me fall more in love with this special couple. There is no other story out there like this- Kit and Preston are in a league of their own.
Ashley has such a keen ability to take a trope and rewrite it- stories that are refreshingly different and unexpected. There’s gutsiness to her storytelling- she’s unafraid to tell stories that aren’t easy to swallow, in fact, she savors them. And she is unafraid to do what so many avoid- she lets her characters be deeply flawed, characters that end up being their own villains. And that’s the crux of what makes this trilogy so damn consuming- Kit and Preston are not your average love story. And their own character flaws are the villain.
This loves story began with the most unlikely beginnings- a lesbian and playboy, brought together by their shared cheating girlfriend, a broken engagement, and an unplanned pregnancy. And thus is the magic of Ashley Jade- that commitment to finding beauty, truth, and love in the most impossible, the most complicated dynamics – and somehow that story becomes her most romantic story she’s told. And boy does this finale deliver on the romance. Oh, we have all that characteristic AJ drama, but we have so many swoons, so much heart, and so much heat. Fans will know Ashley loathes spoilers of all kinds, and I respect her vision, and your reading experience, too much to share too much about this story. What I will say is that Ashley packs a lot into the finale- threads I anticipated, those I did not, yet each moment serves a profound and poignant purpose in each characters’ arc. I flew through this long story in one sitting, mesmerized by every word. It’s unexpected, but just right, messy, but perfect.
What makes this series are the characters. Oh these characters. Kit’s is a journey about identity and acceptance- one that flips that experience on its head, but shines the same thematic light. About a broken girl who just wants to be loved, letting herself be loved by someone that challenges her very sense of self. And Preston’s is a story of redemption and forgiveness, about a broken boy figuring out how to face his trauma, how to heal instead of self-destructing because of it. And their love is the catalyst- a love that is an exception. A love that is an anomaly. And that’s the brilliance of their chemistry and their connection. How Kit finds her truest self in loving someone that, at first, feels at odds with everything she knows about herself. A love that fractures the identity she fought so hard to claim somehow helps her find her truest identity. And how Preston heals by finding a love that breaks him completely, how he finds safety and redemption in someone who exposes him so completely- to himself.
I could not adore Kit any more. She’s one of my favorite heroine’s of all time, and certainly one of the most interesting, nuanced, and captivating characters that Ashley has ever written. I related to her so fiercely- her need for love and acceptance. Her bleeding heart and wounded vulnerability- she’s just so GOOD. Such a beautiful spirit. A light and open heart. The perfect contrast to Preston’s dark repression. I loved Kit from the start, but I’m not sure I truly loved Preston until this finale. And I FLOVE him. He’s still quick tempered, brash, and brooding. But he is beautiful. Ashley lets us see all of his complexities, she opens his heart. And like Kit, he has so much goodness, but he just keeps making mistakes, and he just can’t seem to conquer his demons. I felt so deeply for his journey- as both characters really confront the best and worst parts of themselves as they learn that that is the ultimate barrier – the parts of themselves they refuse to face.
Secrets, past pain, complicated questions, and twists abound- but this story stays true to its core tenet- love. A love unexpected and unbreakable, a love that liberates, a love that redeems, a love that defies trope or explication. And that love is what Ashley is trying to help us see- that love doesn’t have to be understandable or neat or traditional. Love can defy expectation or understanding, love can be chaotic and flawed, but at the end of the day, love is home, safety. Love is where you find yourself- even if you find yourself with someone unexpected. And Kit and Preston prove that better than anyone else- the lesbian, the playboy, that met because of their shared cheating girlfriend. Two people who had seemingly impossible odds, two people whose story is messy and destructive. They have the most beautiful and powerful love of all – a connection so deep that it topples everything they know and has the world rebuilt around it. All those complicated parts somehow fit together- jagged on their own, complete and whole together. Brava, Ashley- this is what makes your writing so special. THIS is how you tell love stories that change us. And Kit and Preston, they’ve changed my heart.
Complex and emotional, Fold is an absolutely compelling story about flawed people who make mistakes but who, ultimately, are trying to do the right thing. Can’t wait to dive into book 2!
Kit and Preston – Trilogy
What a great book!! I enjoyed the constant energy between Kit and Preston! Both flawed characters with painful pasts, get themselves into a “complicated” relationship. I loved their banter, never a dull moment and their chemistry was sizzling. I am really looking forward to more of their story in Book #2 Bluff!!!
My oh my I am stumped on how this book unfolded. I was so drawn to these characters and I absolutely loved the complexity of this story.
These characters have left me feeling things that I never thought a book could do. I can tell you that once you go in, you will not want to come out of this haze that Preston and Kit will leave you with.
Two people that certainly were not meant for each other, both have issues and completely different views in life (mainly love). But even though they aren’t right for each other, they just can’t find their way apart. Every time they vow they’ll never speak to each other again, they find themselves drawn to each other again.
I am dying to read the next installment (which I’m starting now) and continue on with Preston and Kit’s journey.
This is the first instalment in a trilogy and it ends in a cliffhanger.
It is an unconventional love story between a straight guy and a lesbian.
Preston and Kit are amazing characters. He was abused by his father as a child. She lost her parents when she was 8. Their connection in college is powerful and amazing, most of all considering he is the baby daddy of her fiancée. Yes, we get a great villain in this book. Becca is a gold digger, manipulative and remorseless and plays them both.
Preston and Kit go through some traumatic events together that only strengthen their connection but also drives them apart.
They meet again after 3 years in Vegas and it ends in a pretty interesting cliffhanger.
I read it as a combo of audio and e-book and it was a great reading experience.
Different and unpredictable!
The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance:
Heat/Steam:
Story/Plot:
World building:
Character development:
The heroine: Kit Bishop – a lesbian who falls in love over and over and keeps getting hurt. She wears her heart on her sleeve and just wants to be loved. She is devastated when she finds out that her fiancé Becca has cheated on her with a man.
The Hero(es): Preston Holden – the son of an NFL player that now owns a team. Preston is attending Yale and has a gambling problem when he finds out that his girlfriend cheated on him with a woman and is now pregnant with his child.
The story: Preston meets Kit on a bridge in the middle of nowhere one night after both of their worlds are thrown into chaos by the same girl. They get to talking and reveal some things about themselves to each other that neither of them usually talks about. They end up becoming friends of a sort despite how they first met. Neither of them can forget about the other.
This is a very different book than I have ever read before and not only because Kit is a Lesbian. And she is a Lesbian, not bisexual. Both Preston and Kit have some kind of connection with each other and it isn’t just the fact that they were both with Becca. They have the ability to hurt each other.
I am not sure I would even call this a romance, though there is some yearning and pining going on. I like the connection between these two, but they both have a ton of baggage and it keeps piling on so much that they end up doing stupid things. Every time I think I know where this story is starting to head, it veers off somewhere totally different.
I know I want this to be a romance and a love story between these two, but I have no idea how it will go. It does get somewhat steamy in parts, but not always how some romance readers would like, but I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
5 angry girl stars
From the author’s foreword ….
Both Preston and Kit are flawed and unconventional characters. In order to understand them, you’ll need to leave your expectations and everything you thought you knew about romance books behind before you turn that first page. Their story isn’t a traditional love story by any means…but it IS a love story.
There is no better way to describe this story, the word complicated doesn’t even begin to cover the complexities of it. Which is exactly why I was captivated by it, it’s no unusual, so out of your comfort zone, so full of feels and raw emotions it was impossible to remain unaffected. I love when I start reading a book thinking to find an easy read and bam I’m smacked on the head with a fuckton of issues, thank you Ms Jade for writing this story, for giving it to us, for taking this risk and smashing into billion pieces the box.

Kit is a pink dream girl, I instantly clicked to her sensitivity and was screaming so loud every time people took advantage of her, I wanted to squeeze her and reassure her everything would be fine eventually… and I would have been the biggest liar or all, because the author puts this girl through so much I was emotionally drained. Yet this amazing pink lady picks up her pieces and gets back up ready to resume fighting.

Preston, the jock, the gambler, the heart breaker… there is so much more to this flawed, damaged boy, his past is gut wrenching painful, I was rooting so strongly for him, he faces trials after trials and he’s mostly alone, his actions misunderstood and judged, he never gets a break, I couldn’t believe how broken he was and yet he never gives up.
This is no conventional story, this is not what you would expect and I cannot stress enough how perfect this story is. These characters are perfectly imperfect, beautifully flawed and tragically broken. I can tell you by then end of this first instalment your perspective on what a love story should be like will totally change, shading new light on how love is sometimes found in the most unexpected places and with the most improbable people.

No words sounded more true! This right there resonated with me on such a fundamental level, I could fully identify with Kit and her distress. I went through this story so fast I had no time to catch my breath, a fast paced narrative led me to a cliffhanger I wasn’t ready to face, I’m grateful book two is already there to wait for me.
Fold is the first book in this trilogy.
Ashley Jade has done it once again!
I was so excited to read this book.
The minute I started reading this book I was addicted.
Each chapter is more exciting and raw than the last one.
I couldn’t stop reading it once I started it.
The story was very realistic and this makes it easy to be inside the story.
I love the elements of this story.
Kit and Preston’s story was definitely complicated.
The way the story was written for the characters was too good.
It hooked the readers from the beginning.
Kit has been hurt one too many times.
She tries her best but things don’t seem to be going good for her.
Preston is an a-hole but deep down he just wants someone to truly love hime.
I can’t wait to read the next book!!!
If you have read Complicated Hearts 1&2 then you will already know Kit and Preston. If you haven’t, I would say go back to them first – I know this can be read as a standalone but I think you’d be loosing out on so much!
We have Kit, Breslin’s bestie (Breslin from Complicated Hearts) and what we discover here, she really doesn’t have it easy. Her nan is a sadistic witch who is appalled by her sexuality and who doesn’t deserve her!
Then we have Preston, Asher’s younger brother (Asher from Complicated Hearts!) We already know their dad is despicable, however it seems he’s even worse than we thought! Damn my heart hurts for Preston!
Can’t wait to see what comes next….4.5

Fold is book one of the Complicated Parts Series. It’s an opposites attract, enemies to not yet lovers romance. Complicated is defenitely a good description of this book and it’s even beyond that. This is a trilogy following Kit and Preston’s crazy journey, so this book obviously ends in a cliff hanger.
Preston is a glutton for punishment. He’s an arrogant jerk who comes off as selfish but he has a soft spot for Kit. He lacks finesse when it comes to expressing himself, he’s blunt, and doesn’t always think before he acts. He’s definitely a loose cannon.
Kit is a contradiction. She comes off as this sassy spitfire but then other times she’s a vulnerable mess. She has TONS of emotional baggage. She’s desperate to be loved and has endured too much tragedy and manipulation at such a young age. She wears her heart on her sleeve and tends to let people take advantage of her. She’s a lost soul and Preston has muddled her mind even more then what it was.
The story is an unpredictable slow burn, full of angst, secrets, tragedy, and touches on issues such as addiction, rape, baby mama drama, drama with friends, family and significant others. The plot progressed quickly and we’ve barley even scratched the surface of their journey.
What a amazing read ! I love everything this author writes her stories are unique dark emotional angsty and steamy as hell ! Kit and Prestons chemistry is off the charts there attraction to each other is palpable. I read this book in one sitting! Such an addictive read! That ending left me speechless!
