Chalon Linton’s book, Flying in Love, is a fantastic contemporary Christian romance. It’s sweet and clean with a wonderful ending. I really enjoyed the characters. They are so well-written and realistically flawed. I really liked Paige and her optimism but also seeing her insecurities and trials. Jake was an awesome character all around with his cocky pilot attitude, but also with his own trials and fears. I loved their honesty with each other and the way their faith was strengthened. Great story! I hope to read more Airforce stories from this great author in the future!
A sweet, clean romance, this is definitely more of a fairytale romance than realistic romance. Told from the first-person point-of-view, Paige Hall takes the reader through her life starting with the day she catches her boyfriend cheating. It reads more like a diary than a novel, but it works.
**Small spoiler ahead**
There’s not a lot of sizzle or intrigue in this story. The characters have an insane amount of self-control (especially the non-Christian Air Force pilot who waits weeks before kissing Paige). Some of it feels a little more high school than real-life (when said Air Force pilot is excited to call Paige his girlfriend after several months of dating), but none of the characters are perfect, which I truly appreciate — I like watching them make mistakes.
As long as you go in expecting a G/PG-rated romance, I think you’ll enjoy this book.
Wow, I loved it.
I really really enjoyed this book!
Jake is kind of amazing, funny and kind. Paige also a great person, and she grew a lot. She’d been hurt, she needed to learn to trust and have greater faith. Sometimes it was painful to watch/read, as she made mistakes and jumped to the wrong conclusion, but she learned.
Some parts were hard for me to read, and I cried. Timing is part of it. My dad passed away less than a year ago and I just happened to read this book on his birthday–the first one since he passed. So there were parts that were definitely written for me.
And, yes, I had to look up the C-17 Globemaster. That is a cool plane!
I love the cover for this book. I think it is a fantastic representation of what lies inside and it’s also pretty.
This book was character driven which was perfect because Paige and Jake are great characters. The conflict was mostly internal as Paige and Jake deal with their own insecurities and doubts. Family relations are a big part of this book as well. It all seemed very normal and realistic. Their feelings and struggles seemed like those anyone and everyone might experience. I liked that. Both characters show growth and change which is satisfying as a reader.
There are no great climactic, heart pounding moments in this book. It all felt very gentle and sweet which was perfect for me this week when I read it. With the world in so much turmoil right now, gentle and sweet feels really good.
Content: Christian fiction (talk of God, praying, believing), kissing, death

I loved how Paige and Jake met, it was so fun and that scene is emblazoned in my mind! Legendary first time meeting! What I loved most about Flying in Love was the reality of it. Life is not simple and love is not simple. Both take work and effort but when you accomplish that, the results are beautiful. I thought this book would be all about Paige and her journey, but what is beautiful about it is that it’s also about Jake’s journey. This emotional and gripping story of real-life issues and love captivated my attention and kept me up for a late night until I finished the very last page! Flying in love is contemporary christian fiction at its best! I received a copy of this book for free, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Flying in Love is sweet romance about faith, trust, and finding that special someone who creates balance in your life. This is a perfect read for the beach or a lazy weekend.
I’ve read and loved Chalon Linton’s historical and Regency romances, so I was excited to hear she had a new contemporary romance series coming out. That it was about Air Force pilots made me want to read it even more–my father was retired Air Force and I also served in the Air Force so I may be a little biased. I’m looking forward to reading all the books in this series.
Paige meets Jake when she’s definitely not looking to date anyone, having just broken up with her boyfriend after catching him kissing another woman. Isn’t that usually when you find a guy–when you’re no longer looking for one? They have a memorable first meet when Jake almost runs over her in the parking lot of the grocery store, which leads to a I-really-want-to-apologize-for-almost-running-you-over-dinner a few hours later. These two are so cute and fun together.
I loved how Paige and Jake weren’t perfect people or a perfect couple. Everyone has trials in life and Paige and Jake were no exception. I liked that these characters came across as real and imperfect. Just like real people don’t always handle the hard times well–neither did they. Jake had something traumatic happen in his family and Paige was learning how to trust after having a cheating boyfriend and learning a healthier way to deal with a sometimes overbearing mother. I liked seeing their relationship grow from friends, to something more, then came a rough patch or two where they had to learn to talk about the hard things and trust each other. Jake’s career as an Air Force pilot where he could be gone for weeks at a time with little communication was something Paige had to learn to deal with if she wanted to be with Jake.
This book made me feel all kinds of emotions and there were a couple of times I wanted to shake some sense into a character. I liked the Christian element in the book and thought it was well done. Having faith in God was mentioned several times as the characters were going through difficulties, but it wasn’t overdone. I liked that Jake admitted he was struggling with his relationship with God during his family’s difficulty.
This was a sweet romance and put a smile on my face many times. I thought the romance was well developed, belivable, and natural. This was a miliatry romance and had a nice introduction to what it can be like for the families & what navigating some challenges might look like. The military aspect flowed and was naturally woven into the story. Nothing was overdone. I did like the h & H and all supporting characters. I found the h a bit immature in regards to the H a couple of times. The focus on “keeping things balanced” Though when I was at 25 one could perhaps say the same about me! I thought the h did start to show growth and maturity. Especially, with the side story of her family dynamics. I’ve read Chalon Linton’s historical romances and I think she transtioned well into comtemporary. IThe story was told in 1st person pov but I feel I was able to understand others motivations or drive. The H’s challenge in the book was keenly felt. I loved how the auhor ended the story.
This was a fast-paced, engaging story I didn’t want to put down! The struggles the characters went through were very realistic and eye-opening. Chalon Linton brought a sense of authenticity to the story as a military spouse, herself. The romance was sweet and satisfying, the descriptive writing was vivid, the characters were strong, and the plot was smooth. Wonderful story!

A short and sweet romance from Chalon Linton! I read this book almost in one sitting, as it kept me engaged and dying to know what would happen next. Told in first-person point of view, there were a few instances when I wanted a break from Paige’s thoughts, but Linton did a nice job of breaking up Paige’s internal monologue with interactions with other characters.
The relationship between Jake and Paige moves quickly but doesn’t feel rushed, and the reader experiences their relationship right along with Paige in a way that makes the story come to life. This is the first book by Linton I’ve read, and it certainly won’t be the last. 4/5 stars

Note: I was given an advanced copy of this book. The following is my honest opinion.
Chalon Linton’s new Christian Romance is total swoon-worthy. Not to mention that it got my heart feeling all sorts of emotions. A page-turner from the very beginning. I for one can’t wait until the next book comes out from her new Air Force series. If you like romance or christian fiction, then this book is totally for you. You won’t be disappointed…your boss might though if you don’t get enough sleep before work. This kept me up until I could finish the story.
Great contemporary style. I loved the how both characters grew in their understanding of trust and love. I always love a book that has a loving and influential mother-heart strings are pulled but Jakes mother was key in the development of the characters. I loved it! All of it.

I felt so many connections to this story. It was real, emotional, faith building, and strong heartfelt love. I loved the tight family bonds, the pain of heart break, and the grief of losing loved ones. It made me happy for the, faith in God, moments and the clean, wholesome romance. I connected with Paige, because of her SLP profession, Mothers that love, a little too much and learning how to trust again; Jake finding his faith in God, and growing through his grief. There was a lot of things going on, but I never felt weighed down. I have loved this authors other books and I believe this might be her first contemporary romance. I thought it was well planned out and the characters were very likable. This book is a very enjoyable read and I would highly recommend it.
This is a cute, clean read. Paige had a bad experience with her last boyfriend and is gun shy. She meets Jake by accident (literally). They are both nice characters and the plot is fun. In my opinion, good characters don’t have to be flawless, but they have to be likable. Neither Jake nor Paige are perfect, and I didn’t get tired of them running away from each other. But the story was entertaining and had a happily-ever-after.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and offer my honest opinion of this book.
Real situations, emotion, and distinct characters and relationships pull this book together into one fabulous story for Jake and Paige.
Though faced with military life, trials, and tragedy it seems they find the strength to face all challenges presented and come out winning.
I feel honored to read another of Chalon’s books, she is a marvelous author. Whether she writes Regency, or with Flying In Love, dips into contemporary it seems she has a way with words. She creates a flawless story for Jake and Paige. Their story felt more real to me than many contemporary novels. I was fully engaged from page one. Chalon was able to build not only her main characters but also her secondary characters. I was able to form a vivid image in my head of each character and even the facets in the relationships of Paige with her best friend Mandy, her mother, and her sister.
I’m not the biggest fan of first person books because I generally like the perspective of multiple characters but I was not disappointed with only reading Paige’s view for this novel because I still received the story in it’s entirety.
Even seeing the turmoil from Jake’s life through Paige’s eyes was written in a way that I knew felt myself draw closer to Jake and I knew who he was and what he felt.
I loved the meet cute in Flying in Love, it was believable that it could happen because it probably has happened to someone. Paige doing a simple task that many people don’t to have Jake nearly run her down by not obeying traffic laws in a grocery store parking lot was fabulous. I love how persistent Jake was in his pursuit of Paige in order to make things right. It seems like it became a key point to their story because it was (if you will) a part of Jake’s character. He is an amazing Airman but his life skills need a little polishing.
I loved the Air Force aspect of the book as I served in the US Army myself. The concepts of military life, the terms used, and all aspects of the military in this book were both easily understandable for anyone but also gave me a laugh as it brought back memories of my own service.
If I could provide one warning it is this: come prepared to read this book with tissues on hand. I am not typically a crier but I found myself in need of tissues at several points in this book.
In conclusion I simply want to thank Chalon for another exceptional book which has been added to my ever increasing home library! I can’t wait to see what she has in store with the next book.
A sweet treat waiting to be devoured:
This was such a sweet, engaging and delightful book with plenty of tender moments to balance out the drama and angst. I liked that Paige was relatable with her flaws and insecurities. Her last relationship had not ended well and she was still trying to get over it when she met Air Force pilot Jake. Meanwhile Jake was dreamy and I loved how he was a real gentleman who cherished Paige. It was wonderful watching him come to accept God’s grace and learn to trust Him .
I thought the chapter headings were fun and the pacing of the book was excellent. This is my first book by this author but certainly hope it won’t be the last
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
I didn’t always love the style of this book–there were long passages of Paige recounting her day and her inner thoughts that dragged sometimes–but there was something compelling about it that kept me reading and has had me going back to re-read certain passages multiple times. There are some totally adorable interactions between Jake and Paige–and there are realistically frustrating ones that they have to work through in order for things to work out for them. From their meet-cute to their HEA, this book is a great choice for those who like their romances sweet and clean but also with some depth as the characters have to work through real issues.
4 stars.
I read an ARC provided by the publisher via #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars
I enjoyed the book overall and thought it was a cute cute-meet. I hadn’t read one like that before so it felt fresh to me. I liked the characters. I thought Jake was dreamy except when he was dealing with major stressors and then he was confusing. I felt like Paige had some growth over the course of the book as she learned how to be herself instead of molding herself to what she thought other people wanted. I was also glad she learned how to get along with her mother.
However, I enjoyed the first half of this book more than the rest of the book. I felt like more happened in the first part. Some parts of the story got told instead of shown so perhaps that is why it felt like less happened. I felt like the story was wrapping up and then realized I was only about 3/4 of the way through. I wondered how the rest of the story would get filled.
My biggest problem with the book was that I felt like Jake’s response in Vegas didn’t match the situation. Seeing the scene from Paige’s pov made him look angry so I get that but his explanation just didn’t match up to that response. What was he really thinking?
This is Christian lit and has those themes through out the story. It is a part of Paige so it felt normal for her to react how she did and say the things she said. It didn’t feel over the top.
Being a military spouse would be so hard. Kudos to all those who do it. And thank you to all serving and their families that support them.
No sex, language or violence

I loved this story. I am always a little hesitant with contemporary romances as they can skew a bit cheesy. There was none of that here. What you had here were two hearts needing to heal and a romance worth reading. There were some gratuitous mentions of Jane Austen, but that is more than all right with me. I saw supportive friendships and strong family ties. It was everything you would want in a good Christian Romance. And there was romance. There was even room for a not so over the top grand gesture. There was healing, there was faith, and there was hope. I laughed, I cried, I had all the feels. I would definitely read this one again.
This contemporary romance gave me all the feels! I simply could not put it down because my emotions were so wrapped up in the story.
Paige catches her boyfriend cheating and is struggling with the heartache when she meets Jake, an air force pilot, and the two begin to date. The thing I loved most about this book was how relatable Paige and Jake are. The author isn’t telling the story of two perfect people who have a perfect relationship. Their lives are messy and they are dealing with issues of trust, forgiveness, and grief as well as learning how to communicate. Jake’s career in the military adds an extra dynamic to their relationship and military families will certainly be able to relate.
As their relationship grows, Jake and Paige struggle and make mistakes and learn together, and that’s what makes their relationship so beautiful and real. It’s what made me laugh and cry and made my heart ache. It’s what makes this not just a good book, but a great one.
This is Christian fiction and though it is not overly done, the characters reference their faith in and reliance on God. Fans of Becky Wade and Rachael Hauck will certainly enjoy this read.
This was Chalon Linton’s first contemporary romance and I hope it will not be the last. I eagerly look forward to reading more of her work in this genre!
