I felt so many connections to this story. It was real, emotional, faith building, and strong heartfelt love. I loved the tight family bonds, the pain of heart break, and the grief of losing loved ones. It made me happy for the, faith in God, moments and the clean, wholesome romance. I connected with Paige, because of her SLP profession, Mothers that love, a little too much and learning how to trust again; Jake finding his faith in God, and growing through his grief. There was a lot of things going on, but I never felt weighed down. I have loved this authors other books and I believe this might be her first contemporary romance. I thought it was well planned out and the characters were very likable. This book is a very enjoyable read and I would highly recommend it.
Fans of Christian Contemporary novels will be impressed with the beautiful and realistic way in which author Chalon Linton presents Paige and Jake’s story. This heartwarming clean romance reached a whole new level of depth for me and moved my emotions in a real way that hasn’t happened from a novel for me personally in a while. The way the main character Paige leans on the Lord as she navigates her journey of love was truly inspiring. Both Paige and Jake face different types of heartbreak and have different reactions to God and their understanding of His plan for them. I truly enjoyed how they grew together and learned to not just sacrifice for the one they love, but what it means to have balance in a relationship. There was a great wit to the story and humor throughout as well. Plenty of swoon worthy moments between our heroine and our Mr. Air Force. I definitely will be recommending this novel for years to come and look forward to more since this is the start of a new and exciting Air Force Romance series!
I really enjoyed this book! I was impressed at how the author could so seamlessly move from writing regency era novels to a contemporary romance. The main characters were multifaceted and relatable and I appreciated the light references to faith and trust in God.
Romance, contemporary;
Heartfelt, tender, hurting and lovely romance with a fun military backstory/setting
Paige and Jake’s romance was a sweetly honest, hurting, but hopeful romance. Dealing with family issues (Jake’s mother’s health, and Paige’s family’s expectations), career issues, miscommunications, and ‘life’ made for an honest, sweet romance and story that was a portrait of life as it happens. Poignant, yet so sweet when they were together. Their unconventional meeting, the ‘moments’ that they shared along the way as they moved through their relationship made for a lovely, satisfying romantic read. Loved this story of two hurting hearts coming together and finding their ‘heart homes’. Beautifully done, and the flying/military back story made it all the more interesting and fun to read.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review, my opinions are my own.
Paige has just caught her boyfriend of 10 months kissing another girl when he had not wanted to see her that night. It was less than 24 hours since he had told her he loved her. The next week she finds herself in a parking lot almost being hit by a car driven by a very attractive man. When she doesn’t seem to accept his apology, he suggests he take her to dinner to make up for the scare. At dinner Paige finds herself attracted to Jake. His easy manner makes spending time together easy and fun. But the second date gets cancelled one hour before because of his job as an Air Force pilot and Paige begins to wonder if Jake is trustworthy. Thus, begins a story of forgiveness, learning to trust after hurt, learning to build a healthy relationship and the trials placed on people serving in the military. A very good book. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a sweet, charming, and heart tugging novel that I enjoyed so very much. What happens when your heart is broken and your dreams are snatched away? That is exactly what has happened to Paige and we watch her struggle as she makes her decisions, some of them hard, picks herself back up, and decides to move on. So it is no surprise that Paige remains cautious when she and Jake Summers accidentally meet and Jake pursues her.
As they travel down this new relationship road they both experience ups and downs. Life circumstances weigh on them and often get between them. I thought this story did a really good job of showing how a true love for one another can manifest. Both characters grow and change for the better. There were many moments where I felt for Paige- cheering, shedding a tear or two, and wanting to smack Jake for her as well. Falling in love can be easy, but truly loving someone takes work and getting to know that person is crucial.
This story also highlights a little about the military and the unexpected life it gives- I am not a military spouse but I cannot imagine how hard it can be and I am ever more thankful for them and their sacrifices. The secondary characters and both families and their dynamics made this story all the more special.
This is one of my favorite reads for this year and my first author Linton read. I look forward to escaping into one of her Regency novels.
I was provided this novel courtesy Covenant Communications through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
A meet cute that makes me laugh is the perfect way to set the tone for a wonderful story. Paige has been burned recently by a relationship and has no desire to jump into another one, but really…who could resist persistent and sweet Air Force pilot Jake?
This charming tale is driven by fantastic characters, who each have inner demons to battle, while forging ahead down the path to true love, and I just couldn’t get enough. Everyone has weaknesses and challenges in life and I love reading about someone else’s–going through them myself isn’t as fun, hah!
One aspect to this book that I really enjoyed was the relationships with mothers. The dynamic between Paige and her mother was relatable and realistic and I loved how Paige grew and realized some pretty profound things. Jake’s relationship with his mom was so tender and heart tugging, and isn’t it true that to see how a man will treat you, watch how he treats his mother?
As a child of the ’80s, I loved the Top Gun references and kept picturing different scenes from the movie (and characters, too) as I devoured this book. Air Force life sounds difficult, yet rewarding, and this book really brought out the realities of that life.
Why just 4 stars? With as much as I loved this story, it just ended. Ended! I wanted more from this delightfully charming love story.
Content: mild romance; mild Christian elements; mild triggers (death of a loved one)
I have a new love for fighter pilots myself so I was charmed by this real and emotive look into the life of our pilots and their families.
“I’d always thought living life to the fullest meant filling my days with a variety of things, but maybe the reality was if I cut back, I could better enjoy the activities I selected to do.”
So true! Nowadays we do so much, we are always busy, running here and there, we haven’t freetime, we rarely stop our life to think about important things and people.
Sometimes a guy disappoint you and your life become upside down, so you start thinking about your love story and understand things you didn’t see before.
“Giving seemed the natural thing to do for someone you loved.”
You’ll find your boyfriend, he’ll give you peace, love, hugs, loyalty, and your life will be balanced.
Very nice story: I barely put down the book! I recommend it.
Thank you to let me read this book, to: author, Interview&Review.
“I wanted a man who would love me wholly; I also wanted a partner whose faith matched my own. Someone who would open my door, hold my hand, pull me into a hug just because. Someone who wanted to share his life with me.~Paige”
As someone who has been through what Paige went through—an unexpected breakup of a long term relationship through no fault of her own—I could totally relate to her. All the emotions, the feeling of betrayal, the questioning of “what went wrong” & “could I have fixed it”, the “why couldn’t I keep him”, and the feeling of never wanting to trust a man again sort of things that cause some pretty deep hurts and a bruised heart. Also the lesson of what I call “rebound romance” that rarely ever works out and just adds to the fuel of hurt. For Paige, she quite accidentally meets Captain Jake Summers, an air force pilot and one man who could literally shake her world upside down. Except she’s not ready to go there again, if ever! But then he begins to dig under the armor she’s put up with his boyish charm & genuineness. Will she allow her heart to be healed or will she close herself off to the one man who could be her “Mr. Forever”?
This isn’t what I call a fluffy romance; it’s filled with real life situations that any newly formed relationship can go through and can either destroy, or make it stronger. Linton throws both Paige & Jake in the fire pretty early on and I looked forward to how they handled each one as it came up. I rooted for their love to grow in spite of hard things that came their way. I felt they both handled things in a mature manner & learned to be honest with each other. I also loved when Paige shared with Jake how her strong faith in God had helped through some deep valleys in her life. I also liked seeing her relationship with her family develop and how that played a major role in changing her heart. It was fun to watch all things play out from the sidelines! The only thing I wished was different, what was Jake’s faith like? The author didn’t make it clear, though we have a few hints he believes in God. I just wanted to know for certain where he stood since Paige said she really wanted a partner whose faith matched her own. That’s just my take & probably wouldn’t bother some other readers as much.
Anyone who loves contemporary romance with an inspirational thread would enjoy this one. It’s not too long or overbearing and has just the right amount of pacing for the romance. I really enjoyed getting to know Paige because of how much I related to her in my own life. I’ll be looking for more books by Chalon; her writing is fantastic in my opinion!
*I received this book courtesy of Covenant Communications, through Interviews & Reviews, for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to leave a favorable review. Ja
With realistic characters and an inspirational plot, this sweet romance checked all the boxes. I loved how the characters felt like real people. Though there was definitely an initial spark between these two, I enjoyed how the story unfolded slowly and realistically. I love all the behind-the-scenes military info too. It was so interesting to learn about what a real military man might do, what his life might look like, and how love/romance fits into his life.
When Paige Hall catches her boyfriend cheating on her, she decides she is done with the dating scene. This all changes for Paige when she almost literally has a run-in with Captain Jake Summers while at the grocery store. Jake and Paige click right from the start but with his crazy career and her insecurities left over from her last relationship they hit multiple roadblocks to their HEA.
I fell in love with characters right from the start. From Paige’s obsession with all things Jane Austen, to Jake’s respect and love for the women in his life there wasn’t a single character that I didn’t identify with at some point in the story. There are some stories that strike you in the heart and stary with you, and this is one of those.
Chalon Linton has a powerful way of connecting real emotion to her stories. There were many times while reading that I had to sit the book down and just feel the emotions that a scene provoked in me. Paige learning to trust after a heartbreak, her learning to grow to appreciate and understand her mother more. Jake’s dedication to his job and his family. These were all so relatable to me that I can’t wait to read what Chalon writes next!
FLYING IN LOVE is a story about learning when to trust your heart, when to forgive, repairing relationships, and trusting in God. Readers will fall in love with these characters as they try to find their happily-ever-after. Definitely recommended to inspirational romance readers.
This story pulls you right in and endears you to Paige, the heroine, when she finds her boyfriend kissing another woman. I also couldn’t help loving her roommate and best friend, Mandy, who is a someone any woman would be lucky to be friends with as she offers comfort and steadiness for Paige, but also gives her a few redirects and honesty when Paige needs it. There’s Gavin who tries to win Paige back and then Jake who almost literally runs into her. Paige and Jake are also very close to their families who have their own roles to play as their relationship unfolds. I really liked all the different relationships.
This story reminded me so much of all the insecurities and vulnerabilities of dating, especially when what you want to find is love, marriage, and happily-ever-after with someone who makes you better, but also loves you as you are. Paige had a tough time trying to figure out what went wrong with Gavin, if she was ready to open her heart so quickly after her break-up, and if Jake was the one who would be right for her. I could totally relate with that, as I think all of us can at one point or another. I really liked how the romance slowly built and it was very sweet. Jake is definitely easy to swoon over. I loved the references to Top Gun (a movie I grew up watching) as he’s a pilot for the Air Force. Some of the slow build was due to Paige’s hesitancy as well as Jake’s career, but it was also due to them being careful with each other and wanting to do things right. The inspirational element was present, but lightly woven through the story.
I have just a few complaints. One was that the beginning of the story felt a bit rough with the dialogue and interactions with the characters. It seemed to flow better once the story was going a bit more and there was some tension here and there to drive it. There were places that could have used a bit more development as well. The other thing was I wanted a bit more explanation to Jake’s reaction at one point and a bit more discussion towards the end in regards to Paige and the changes she would need to make.
In the end, was it what I wished for? This was an enjoyable read that was heartfelt, with great characters, a light inspirational message, and a very sweet romance. I’m looking forward to seeing what this author writes next!

I truly loved this book. I could relate so well to the main character as she was a teacher, she’d had her heart broken, and was very wary about giving her heart away again. Paige’s insecurities felt so real to me. Readers will feel her vulnerability deeply as she meets a new man who could steal her heart away. Paige was a great character and felt very realistic. She is smart, kind, and a great person. When she meets the handsome pilot Jake Summers, you could feel how hesitant she was to fall in love again. Jake at first seems the perfect man in so many ways. There were a few things that happened that were out of his hands that built conflict between the two characters. Oh, there are things that’ll bring out strong emotions in readers. I know I was brought to tears several times and angsty moments are also included. This sweet, clean romance has some moments that bring the sparks out as the romance builds.
This Christian romance explores themes of trusting in God, showing faith, being loyal, and communicating honestly with those you love. Being able to open your heart and take risks is also developed in the plot. I’m excited about this series to learn more about military life. I know there are many sacrifices made by spouses and families. Flying in Love is a great addition to my list of “must-read books” for Summer 2020.
I’m glad I wasn’t reading this book in public, because I had a goofy smile on my face more often than not for the first several chapters. This totally would have been a one-dayer kind of book, but I forced myself to put it down so I could get some sleep.
I loved Paige and Jake. He was a little hard to read sometimes, but he was just a genuinely good guy, and I was cheering for them the entire time. The interactions both of them had with the secondary characters really helped bring this story to life too.
This is a quick read that pulls you in right away. Definitely one that I plan on reading more than once.
I’m always looking for new contemporary romance to read, it’s my favorite! This new one by Chalon Linton is a Christian romance. And it’s amazing!
I loved Paige. She’s optimistic and happy. She’s just the kind of person that is everyone’s best friend. She might have been my very favorite part of the book! But the guy that she was dating at the beginning of the book, was cheating on her. And she caught him. Ugg! So she goes to the grocery store and just about got run over by a guy in a big, black truck.
His name was Jake. I loved the way Jake talked her into going to dinner with him. That whole part just made me smile. But Jake is in the military. And his life is not quite the normal life you think of. He never knows when he’s going to be called to leave. And that kills a few of their dates.
I loved both Jake’s and Paige’s families! Their families play a big part in this story. I was really glad to get to see them. I really hope Jake’s sister, Lucy, gets her own story. There was some sadness with their families. And things between Jake and Paige got a little bit rocky. The twists and turns kept me wanting to know what happened. And I finished this book so fast!
I’m really hoping for more like this by this author soon!
I was sent a copy of Flying in Love as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
***4.5 stars***
I was ready and willing to spend more time with the characters in Flying in Love. Unfortunately for me, the book came to an end. I’m sure that Chalon Linton has more fantastic books to write, so I guess I’ll just have to be content.
This story has amazing characters. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Paige and Jake’s story. They are incredibly good and imperfect. Paige has trust issues (for a good reason) and Jake comes to save the day by almost running over her in a parking lot. The truth is that on different occasions they save each other. They develop a “balanced” relationship.
Jake is such a great guy. He is the kind of MC that most women hope they meet and fall in love with someday. He has great values and knows how to treat others. From the moment we meet him, it becomes apparent that he is perfect for Paige. I like to think of his as imperfectly perfect. He is so respectful and kind. He is the kind of man that Paige needs in her life.
Paige has a fantastic best friend and roommate. Everyone needs someone who you can sit down with and watch a Jane Austen movie. Mandy is the great support that provides needed but unwanted advice at times. She holds Paige together when it seems as if her world is crumbling.
I also enjoyed the complicated relationship that Paige has with her mom. Mom and daughter relationships can be complex, but I loved how Chalon Linton illustrates how to treat that relationship. I think she added a great perspective.
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this book, so I’ll just close by saying that you should read it!
Source: I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
The characters, Paige Hall and Jake Summers, create a lot of drama between themselves. Paige tries to protect herself from getting more hurt and be on-guard, but it holds her back and causes miscommunication and distrust. Jake Summers suffers from his own demons that he must overcome. The distrust and drama between the characters doesn’t make it a relaxing read. It felt frustrating as a reader to read some of their immaturity and insecurities, but as the characters came together and found a strength in each other the characters become better to their family, friends, each other and themselves. I think that is the subtle beauty of this book that it pulls two struggling people together as one and the effects ripple into their other relationships. It also delves into human perception. I liked that the book also has a unique setting compared to most modern romances and stands apart in it’s plot and characters. It’s an interesting read.
Please note that I received a free copy, however, this is my honest opinion.
I was thrilled to learn that one of my favorite Regency authors was writing a contemporary romance since I love both genres. I knew that with the author’s background as a military wife, we would get an authentic story with details that really bring depth. I was not disappointed! Paige and Jake are great together, even with their flaws and mistakes, and I loved seeing how they not only fell in love, but overcame obstacles and supported each other. The tone of the book is definitely emotional and I was able to easily connect to the characters. The California setting was so fun since I live in San Diego, and it was easy to picture them in their environment. There are strong themes of insecurity, trust, family dynamics, and having a relationship with God. I loved that there was a faith element to the story that was tastefully done- no heavy preaching, but genuine and sincere. I’m excited for more sweet contemporary romance from this author… as well as her historicals!

“Flying In Love” by Chalon Linton
What can I say about this book? I think amazing covers it! Chalon Linton knows how to write a clean contemporary romance. This is the first book by this author that I’ve read and I am looking forward to the next book.
Synopsis: Paige Hall happy ending may just be in sight. She has been dating her boyfriend for month’s and she feels confident their relationship is going on the right direction until she catches him kissing another woman. Paige a speech therapist, puts everything into her work and gave up on men. Till she ran into Jake Summers, a military pilot.
My thoughts: You might remember what your first love was like. You find your life revolving around that person. Sometimes it’s your happily ever after and sometimes it’s not. I felt the pain that Paige was going through and the development of a new, fresh relationship with Jake. “Flying in Love” has all the makings of a great book! It pulled me in from the very first age. I love all the characters and how they develop in the book. Some parts of the story made me cry, but the major made me laugh.
Rating: I give this book a 5 stars
I will love to recommend this book to family, friends and through social media.
This e-book was a complementary copy from the author for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone.
